never will regard the chargers as an LA team, and I think that 06 playoff season was such a lucky fluke. Troy Brown was really clutch in the playoffs, a wide receiver playing cornerback too. Just came down to Belichicks coaching and how anal he is about every player doing their job to its completion regardless of what it was and where they were assigned. those players get chewed out if they dont, so even though talent wasn't there the chargers still had to get past Brady and a hungry assembly of worker bees ready to clutch it on a moments notice. thats why you guys had a tough time, it really isn't a knock against your team and incredible legacy during that era. i really wish you guys made it through and battled it out with manning. sucks that sometimes the lesser skilled team wins, but thats football.
My dad and I are from SD. I was too young to really care about football yet but my dad is always super depressed when it comes to looking back at this season. If they win the AFC championship the chargers win the Super Bowl, San Diego gets a championship, and San Diego probably keeps it’s team. As it stands now we’ve moved to Seattle, are now Seahawks fans, and if we watch any chargers game we root against them
Hell yea. I don't mind the Chargers anymore but I'd hate to see them win it all. Luckily they're still owned by the Spanos slumlord trash family so they wont be getting any hardware anytime soon.
I was actually at that game. My father had season tickets and he got a couple of playoff tickets as soon as he could. We were so excited and ready. I still remember that Marlon McCree fumble. It haunts my dreams.
I get up everyday at 4am and go to work until 5pm …. It’s hard to get up in the morning but thank you Brandon Perna for making my morning so much better ❤💪🏼 your awesome my man .
I just turned 29 last week, and this took me down memory lane. Indy and SD had some good matchups back then, and I used to love watching LT play. To this day he’s still my favorite rb ever. This era of football will probably always be my favorite.
It was partway through the era before the NFL became arena league football where you couldn't touch the QB or the WR and taunting didn't exists nor did any of the other changes to make it so the offense appeased the fantasy players. The era where Blake Bortles could throw for over 4k yards is a joke.
Hell yeah, I still remember no matter that Rivers and the Chargers could never beat Brady and the Pats, they could always disappoint Manning and the Colts.
Textbook definition of a “possession” receiver. Doesn’t have to be a track star, but runs good routes, solid hands, makes plays in traffic. He won’t be the one going deep, but he’ll pick up first downs going up the seam all night.
This era made me a Chargers fan. A lot of weekends watching the bolts while my uncles would drink beer and barbecue. LT, Sproles, Gates, and Jackson. Awesome team to watch.
One of the few football games I was lucky to go to was a raiders, chargers game in 2006 my senior year of high school. LT had one of his best games that day and even as a raiders fan I was excited to watch him play.
This was the team I got hooked on the NFL with. Unfortunately the team is still blowing it year after year but I still love them! My hockey team is the exact same way…I obviously root for mediocre teams 😂
this is the ONLY team that makes me feel better about the steelers not winning a superbowl with prime Antonio Brown, Prime Leveon Bell and Prime Big Ben
I remember this season as a Chargers fan. I thought this was gonna be our year. Unstoppable forces with tons of young up and coming players and a good sprinkling of vets. I was so devastated to see how the season ended. The Chargers are still and probably will always be my 2nd favorite team. Just hope we don't waste Herbert like they did Rivers. And like my main team, GB wasted Favre and Rodgers. Appreciate seeing some love from a Broncos fan and we know we're your secret team to win if Denver and Buffalo don't win over the Chiefs. Keep up the good work and love the videos.
@Ernesto Gastelum yes and no, I'm glad we got a super bowl out of each. But as talented as they were, they should have at least gotten to more. 3 trips in 30yrs with 2 HOF QBs.
As great as the 06 Chargers were, people seem to forget it was the 07 Chargers that made the AFC Championship. And if not for Rivers playing on a torn ACL, they likely had a good chance of beating the 17-0 Patriots.
You should do a similar video on the 2005 Bengals, They were 11-5 on the way to probably a Super Bowl run when on the second play of the game Carson Palmer was hit and tore his ACL. Palmer would never play at the level of the 2005 season again thus ending any chance of them being taken seriously again in the future. Which is why a Burrow wearing #9 and all the curses being broken seems as a very feel good story for Bengal fans!
Absolutely. A never injured Palmer makes those later playoff teams a different story. A healthy Palmer throwing to AJ, Sanu and Gresham? We’d have gotten past Houston at least one of those times.
Was 15 when we lost that game still love my chargers just hope they turn it around one day and get close to how great this team was thank you for the chargers content ⚡️⚡️⚡️
I was literally thinking about this, this morning. How shocking it was that Marty never won a Chip. He had multiple good teams, and the Chargers were a monster. I bet if he wasn't let go, he would of won one with San Diego.
I still remember the mixed feelings I had at that game. As a colts fan of the time I was thrilled that they would be hosting the afc champ game, but I was terrified of another loss to Brady. Luckily it didn’t play out that way as it was the one year the team had a solid defense
My twins were born in the fall of 2006 so even if I saw any part of the '06 season, I was probably tandem nursing and half-asleep. Thanks for the overview of a season I literally don't remember 😂 for any team. What a tragedy for all the Chargers fans! Btw - great writing & editing on this one. I love the humor clips added.
That team was loaded. I am a life long Chicago Bears fan, and I have almost never cheered for any AFC Team... Until this Chargers Team! I really liked watching that team play! They deserved so much better.
This was a real fun look back into my golden age of madden playing, and I bragged more than once about that jake Plummer win to all the patriots fans who surround me in New Hampshire
As a lifelong Broncos fan, my first game in person was the NYE game against SD when Brees broke his leg. Being from the East Coast I was drinking at 8AM SD time and was damn well drunk by the end of the game. Made for a long NYE and even longer day after. A little over 5 months later, I was in attendance at the Preakness when Barbaro broke his leg and I was also equally drunk then. Apparently my drinking has an affect on sports.
Only got into the NFL three years ago. Became a chargers fan cause I’m from LA and I went to college with Herbert. Also I really just loved the way the offense had a spark in it. When I get into something new I go deep. So I studied the history of my team. I was 8 years old in ‘06 and couldn’t be bothered about sports. But this season. And that game. It haunts me.
You know Perna, I am not a Chargers fan, but you make a great point at 4:45. That tackle by Lynch changed the destiny of two NFL teams for the better. (The Chargers, and the New Orleans Saints).
i was very lucky to be at the game where LT broke the TD record (also my very first NFL game) I'll never forget how everyone in the stadium (even some Bronco fans) started cheering and yelling LT in unison... i always get bagged on for being the only Chargers fan in the vicinity but damn do i have SOME happy memories with them
There is a balls deep and a dorktown breakdown of a different sad chargers season. They were not even the same kind of sad, then there was the game that is waiting for a horribly sad in depth breakdown from last year. Damn, i feel for you charger fans. They are both exceptional examples of heartbreak
The reason why the 2010 Chargers were 10th in scoring defense was because their special teams was so bad the opponents never had to move the damn ball. They were already on the Charger's side of the field. The fact they were still in the top 10 despite this is mind boggling.
yeah i remember watching a video that explained that it was pretty much their special teams being so bad that blew that whole season for them. dont think theres ever been an instance like that in nfl history lmao.
Good video Perna. How about the 1998 Vikings? I am a Bills fans but loved these Chargers teams. Come to think of it..... maybe baseball or hockey should be my sport........
Antonio and Phillip still get together every year with their families and have complete drafts and seasonal games between their kids they’re building their own league
Great video to bring back past scares!! Still loved the video though. Funny to me that 2 of the best Charger videos regarding past teams are, this 2006 chargers from a Denver fan and the 2010 chargers from a KC fan.... I guess we just don't have a good youtubers for Chargers fans, at least not of past seasons.
Great video! I've always been interested in the 06' Chargers as well. I wish they were still in San Diego! For all of the Navy pplz living there, .. we felt like the Chargers were the official team of the US Navy. ( I grew up in San Diego, in the Navy )
5:27- I don't like Nick Saban but I feel the need to defend him. He left Miami bc he wanted Drew Brees but other people in the organization wanted Culpeper. This came out in 2021, I believe
Slingin' Sammy Baugh is one of, if not the best pure athlete to ever play football. He threw 4 TD's AND CAUGHT 4 INT's in the SAME GAME. Different breed that guy was.
Nate Kaeding is my favorite Charger because after missing the game winning field goal against the Jets in the playoffs in 2004 he then missed 3 field goals against the Jets in the 2009 playoffs (they lost by 3)
You should do the 1999 Jacksonville Jaguars, who only lost three games all year, which was against the Tennessee Titans, who allegedly had the Jaguars playbook
This was my first full season of chargers football. My brother cursed me by introducing to this team. This team was very memoral. I hate this video. I have never known football happiness. Great content man. Why must you open old wounds.
I know everyone remembers this game for the Marlon McCree fumble but you gotta give Troy Brown a lot of credit for causing that fumble. That was a season saving play by him.

They have Herbert at quarterback and a bunch of very good players, and they have had 2 winning seasons and made the playoffs for the first time since 2018, but our new Brady is MaHomes, and I’m almost starting to hate him just as much..
Thanks for helping us remember how good we were, and how bad it always ended every season!
At least we aren’t the Broncos led by Russell Wilson 👍🏼
Good post with 2 golden FACTS: Spanos IS to blame and nothing is ever guaranteed with the Chargers!
@@_SayaNara So the grammar Nazi is spell checking me? Were you confused about who I was talking about? Did you lose sleep over the way I spelled his name?
Get a life! Lol
@@_SayaNaraYeah! Him too!
never will regard the chargers as an LA team, and I think that 06 playoff season was such a lucky fluke.
So your family is bandwagoners gotcha, fans like you are part of the reason why they left SD, only stuck around when it was convenient.
I was actually at that game. My father had season tickets and he got a couple of playoff tickets as soon as he could. We were so excited and ready.
I still remember that Marlon McCree fumble. It haunts my dreams.
GREAT VIDEO... PATROITS STOPPED ALLOT OF FUTURE DYNASTIES. CHARGERS, COLTS, RAIDERS, JETS, RAVENS, JAGS, CHIEFS. VERY SATISFYING VIDEO. TY😁
@@dizzydwarf502 hell yeah.. the 6 INT game comes to mind when I think of the Colts vs. SD back in the day 😒
Colts and Chargers fans of this era are kindred spirits in one regard: the amount of times they’ve uttered the phrase “Goddamn Brady AGAIN…”
Jabbar Gaffney was an underrated Bronco. Super slow but routes were so crisp he was open a ton
Textbook definition of a “possession” receiver. Doesn’t have to be a track star, but runs good routes, solid hands, makes plays in traffic. He won’t be the one going deep, but he’ll pick up first downs going up the seam all night.
There is one team that rivals this one….
And it was the Chargers again four years later
That was my thought seeing this title too
It should be illegal what the chargers do to their fans.
@@TotallyTheExpert 😂
Damn Nate Kaeding missed from 36,40,& 57 in that divisional playoff vs the Jets in 2009. Completely forgot that team.
Lmao well at least you guys have a legacy... even if it is a legacy of failure.
It’s really insane how good the chargers were in the LT era considering how little they accomplished in the postseason.
This era made me a Chargers fan. A lot of weekends watching the bolts while my uncles would drink beer and barbecue.
LT, Sproles, Gates, and Jackson. Awesome team to watch.
I still have depression over this game. Greatest heartbreaking moment in SD sports history along with Tony and Seau’s deaths.
The day the Chargers went up to Lotta. Ass. was worse. 🤷
Nate Kaeding missing those FG's against the Jets is right up there
Chargers reminded me of NBA Kings with Mike Bibby Chris Webber and Vlad years so good but kept losing to Lakers and Portland instead of Colt and pats
I hope you do more of these historical videos. This was so interesting.
One of the few football games I was lucky to go to was a raiders, chargers game in 2006 my senior year of high school. LT had one of his best games that day and even as a raiders fan I was excited to watch him play.
*I think, I was there, for that game…* *Our Raiders ABSOLUTELY F--ING SUCKED FROM 2004-2009.*
Now do a video on the 2010 Chargers, who had the #1 offense and defense but missed the playoffs
I was just about to mention that one! Man both those teams broke my heart
Keep up the good work and love the videos.
i wouldnt say Favre and Rodgers werent wasted since they both won a SB.
@Ernesto Gastelum yes and no, I'm glad we got a super bowl out of each. But as talented as they were, they should have at least gotten to more. 3 trips in 30yrs with 2 HOF QBs.
@@DigestedRaptor6 still them winning a SB is already a huge accomplishment. as a Chargers fan i wish i had 2 SB winning QBS
As great as the 06 Chargers were, people seem to forget it was the 07 Chargers that made the AFC Championship. And if not for Rivers playing on a torn ACL, they likely had a good chance of beating the 17-0 Patriots.
You know your football!!! Everything you said is true
They had no chance in beating that 07 pats team. The 06 pats sucked they should of blowed them out easily .
It continues to amaze me that RUclips hasn't demonetized this segment for calling it Balls Deep. Great video, you're the best Brandon.
Football has the term “throwing the ‘deep ball’”. It’s just a play on that….nothing more. *wink wink nudge nudge*
Was 15 when we lost that game still love my chargers just hope they turn it around one day and get close to how great this team was thank you for the chargers content ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Love the Marty McFly tee! I’ve never seen that one with the Van Halen guitar on it. I want one! Great job Brando!
I was literally thinking about this, this morning. How shocking it was that Marty never won a Chip. He had multiple good teams, and the Chargers were a monster. I bet if he wasn't let go, he would of won one with San Diego.
We said the same thing about Shula, Marino, and Miami. We see how that turned out.🤷♂️ Fucking Ray Finkle...
@@SkunkApe407 and Fuck Dean Spanos, long live Felipe Rio
@@teen_laqueefa lol.
Marty played not to lose, he didn't play to win.
@@10thletter40 that's true but that Charger team was a beast and Marty got let go. Always thought that was crappy of the GM to do that.
I grew up in San Diego. I still remember that season. I was 10. I was sad.
U never..WVER dissapoint Perna
..even Raider Nation shows u love..
Bcuz u spit facts.

This was a real fun look back into my golden age of madden playing, and I bragged more than once about that jake Plummer win to all the patriots fans who surround me in New Hampshire
Only wish Jake the Snake lead that ‘05 Broncos team to SB XL
It's crazy how ya forget all that sruff...
you are such a great find! Gotta try your
Losers Blend! 🏈
It haunts me.
wait, Philip Rivers was. once childless? I thought he was born already a father
You know Perna, I am not a Chargers fan, but you make a great point at 4:45. That tackle by Lynch changed the destiny of two NFL teams for the better. (The Chargers, and the New Orleans Saints).
I love how you keep up the consistency with the commentary just mentioning Gates basketball background 😭
This was a great video. I wish you’d make more historical type of videos.
Do a video on the 1967 Baltimore Colts, who went undefeated until the final game of the season, and were then knocked out of the playoffs.
i was very lucky to be at the game where LT broke the TD record (also my very first NFL game) I'll never forget how everyone in the stadium (even some Bronco fans) started cheering and yelling LT in unison... i always get bagged on for being the only Chargers fan in the vicinity but damn do i have SOME happy memories with them
There is a balls deep and a dorktown breakdown of a different sad chargers season. They were not even the same kind of sad, then there was the game that is waiting for a horribly sad in depth breakdown from last year. Damn, i feel for you charger fans. They are both exceptional examples of heartbreak
The best lights out dance was by Junior Seau when he sacked Rivers while Seau was with the Patriots.
I n d e e d
Well done on the vid !!
EDIT: Can’t recall how many pro bowlers they had on that roster that year
The reason why the 2010 Chargers were 10th in scoring defense was because their special teams was so bad the opponents never had to move the damn ball.
I'm from SD. I haven't watched a full football game since the charges left. This video was amazing.
Also Nate Kaeding : Kick Ass Except During Important NFL Games.
I didn’t know benchwarmer brew had a sister page to donate. Very very cool man. Very unique!
Holy shit! Never seen that Eli Manning rap before.
I’m gotta support this dude. Most entertaining football videos.
Antonio and Phillip still get together every year with their families and have complete drafts and seasonal games between their kids they’re building their own league
This team is cursed. Marlon Mccree is Spanos personified as a football player!
Me too when they rock navy blue is magic to me
@@davidcrook99 *As a Die-Hard* Raiders Fan, *you guys should* make a petition to bring those Jersey’s back.
don't let this distract you from the fact that that 2010 chargers had the number one offense AND number one defense and didn't even make the playoffs.
Still can't believe they lost to New England who had Reche Caldwell as their #1 receiver
The Pats also used that direct snap play against the Jets in the 2010 divisional round
I think the 2008 Seahawks would be an interesting one to go Balls Deep on. That was the epitome of first to worst.
Actually the Rams had a worse record than the Seahawks. But yeah injuries and having a coach in waiting ruined their season.
LT was the man! He's in my top 5 best backs in NFL, definitely top 10
What about the 15-1 Packers the year after they won a SB? They lost in the divisional round and were a one and done
Antonio Cromartie has more baby mama then Philip Rivers have kids😂😂😂😂
I lived in Cali for 8 years now and I promise I only met 1 chargers fan the whole time I’ve been here
The running gag of P Rivers having kids is brilliant.
Nate Kaeding is my favorite Charger because after missing the game winning field goal against the Jets in the playoffs in 2004 he then missed 3 field goals against the Jets in the 2009 playoffs (they lost by 3)
You should do the 2019 ravens, they also had a 14-2 record and got bounced by the titans. I predicted them to win superbowl 54 over the saints
I'd say 2009 was worse. IN 2006 they lost to the 12-4 Patriots in 2009 they lost to the 9-7 Jets
not to mention the AFC West in 2009 was one of the worst divisions ever
As a Colts fan the Chargers being the Chargers have been the greatest gift!
I would give the edge to this Chargers team but the 2019 Ravens story is VERY similar and should have an honorable mention
You should do the 1999 Jacksonville Jaguars, who only lost three games all year, which was against the Tennessee Titans, who allegedly had the Jaguars playbook
Allegedly
LOL I like how you kept updating the baby number. noticed at 3 kids🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was my first full season of chargers football. My brother cursed me by introducing to this team. This team was very memoral. I hate this video. I have never known football happiness. Great content man. Why must you open old wounds.
I’ll always love my chargers… I’ve been through too much, I could never leave lmao ⚡️⚡️
I know everyone remembers this game for the Marlon McCree fumble but you gotta give Troy Brown a lot of credit for causing that fumble. That was a season saving play by him.
Cub fan all my life so I know the feeling. Thank God 2016 helped some.
The 2010 team he mentioned that had the #1 off and def but missed the playoffs.... that's almost impossible.. only the Chargers
To me as a Vikings fan it’s Green Bay of 2011 that team was unreal they were 15-1 and lost first round at home to the giants the eventual Super Bowl champion
