I've really come to trust your advise on all things hair related, Sylvia. I hope you can do a similar video on how to banish red-toned hair on brunettes, with a video describing and demonstrating the same as above, but just an easy brunette transition from red/brassy brown to a more neutral to ash brown look (without it looking so blond). Thanks! :)
Thank you for addressing gray hair coverage. So funny because I was going to ask you if you could do more videos on over 50 to 100 percent gray. I have always been able to diy my hair since I was a teen but now at 54 and about 75 percent gray and resistant white around my face and ears it's been a challenge. Thank you! Love watching your videos!
Whenever I want to do something to my hair I always look to your channel first. The problem for a lot of us who try to do it ourselves is we can't get hold of these products (not in the UK anyway) so it's back to the stores as usual!
I wish I be in the bay area and have you really do my hair... your knowledge of hair makes me comfortable. Your sooo beautiful Silvia! Keep doing what your doing!
After watching your videos for years and reading all the comments I will be trying the redken permanent line for the first time. I love love the shades eq for toning but have never used the permanent line the double NN line or the creams . Thank you so much for Sharing your knowledge about these products. As a professional stylist it’s awesome to have you guys share with us all to help our clients look and feel their very best. Much love doll
I gasped when I saw the first example. That has been my hair for the last 10 years. Elle - you deserve a round of applause... wow. i cannot wait to do this...
What do you do for the base ? You mention the 6na & 8na for the base colour … my hair is bleached but has gone quite gold/orange … so would I go through and foil and use that mixture … if what do you mean by base colour ?
I would love a video on how to get the best air dry (when you maybe don't have access to a blow dryer). I find that when I let my hair air dry, whether I braid it or leave it alone, it always feels "flat" against my scalp and gets oily much faster. Any tips to get an air dry with a bit more lift at the roots would be amazing!
I had hoped to hear more about the process of getting the red out of brown, like showing. I am not a fan of that as my dark hair anytime it lightens is this and I want something other than this!!!! I like how you used two colors BTW
omg!! I want this exact color on the model you did. I wish I could fly out to San Francisco for you to do my hair!! I have changed hairdressers SO many times!!!
I have a neutral light/medium brown natural root with medium / light blonde, balayage, to my mid back, all one length length hair. It’s just my jam- “surfer chick/ hippie/ boho vibes”. It’s low maintenance and it’s what my hair has always naturally been. Plus, I am actually a surfer and my clothing is very hippie / bohemian style. I always go back to this hair stay,e & color. It just feels like home. I’m on chemo now, (4th time in 27 yrs), and my stylist (who is also a good friend of mine for over 25 yrs), has been thru it ALL with my hair issues for 25 yrs. I won’t let anyone else touch it! I love & trust her💯. My issue is: she went out on her own from her longtime salon & opened her own salon, which RULEZ!! BUT…. We’ve always used Redken products on my hair (which is very similar to ur hair in texture, length & color). My hair just loves Redken. Problem: Since opening her own amazing salon, she switched to Paul Mitchell & recently added Amika. I ♥️ Amika home products, so I’m stoked on using Amika shampoo, conditioner & masks, at home. But, I still prefer Redken to PaulMitchell, when getting any salon work done, like color, gloss, toning, etc. My question for you is: Is it rude if I go buy all the correct Redken supplies I need at Sally’s, (let her know ahead of time), & ask her to use them for all my salon color, hair treatments, etc, that she does in her salon? She is an expert with all Redken products and has always used them on me, before choosing to go with PaulMitchell. I don’t know why?? But- my hair just doesn’t like PM. 🤷🏼♀️ TIA- if u find the time to shoot me a quick & easy reply. I definitely don’t wanna upset or offend her. She has helped me & saved my hair more times than I can count. I definitely don’t wanna lose her as my stylist OR my friend!! Let me know what u think, when u have the time. Thank you! I always use ur RUclips tutorials, esp with color, since my hair is so similar to urs, both my natural root color and the length, texture & balayage style. Anyway, Thank you for ur amazing RUclips videos. Take care. Hope to ttyl ✌🏼😊🩵🪬
Hi. I have dark brown hair (4n) and merlot byalage. I know in a few weeks the brassyness will appear despite best efforts (sulfate free products). No one has any videos on toning that out to get the vibrant color back. Looking at the color wheel, I think I am supposed to go with green to neutralize the brassy color. Can you do a video on that. Everyone is doing BLONDE but us brunettes need help too!
Agreed. I think Im supposed to be using a blue toner. I'm a 2 or 3 because of ease but it's stark against my pale skin. I love the feel of black with my Bob but I wish I could ash out at a bit lighter. I've done this a million times and every time I lift a level or two, it reads orangey. If I found the right toner, I'd be thrilled. I'm just gonna go to Sally's and buy a blue toner. It's opposite on the color wheel so in theory it should work. If you have a ton of actual red and want to cancel it out, I would think green or even teal if you're also brassy.
@@alisarose1407 y’all obviously didn’t listen to a word she said in this video. Allow me to help you out. In order to correct orange hair in brunette a toner will not work. You need to get a full pigmented permanent color (6NA +6NN) or 7NN. A toner is only going to work for hair that’s about a level 8 and higher. Hope that helps.
I’m curious why did you use 8 NA & 6 NA half oz of each instead of using just a 7 NA? By the way I am absolutely Loving your videos!!! You are Amazing at giving good and very helpful info!! Thx so much! Donna from AZ🌵
@@wanndon170 she’s not trying to sell anything bozo. She’s explaining how to do a very confusing process that obviously you are here watching the video yourself so before you start making assumptions you should use your noggin.
Thank you so much for showing us the colours options...but is missing the application of it...please .like the 7NN Only on the roots and foil in between??With the 6 and 8 on the root and foils in between after processing time would you tone the highlights???
as I mention towards the end - All brands make their own version of these products and the names are the same. So if Redken is not available to you, there are other options but like I've said a million times before, I do find that Redken gives hands down the best results and its the brand I have always chosen to work with at my salon. If you're covering greys at home - I honestly think your best solution is using eSalon - as I've mentioned in the past, their system is incredible for that: bit.ly/2aHruqR
Have you done an episode on over the counter hair colors (permanent & temporary) and the different brands that someone can get from a local drug store/general store (Walgreens/Alberston's/etc.) that you would recommend? Where I live it is very expensive to have hair color done in a salon and some of my friends live hours away from town but still want to try different colors. Thanks for the help. Love your videos.
I have just bleached my hair (hilites) Using Pravana Pure Light and 20 Vol..... not too bad really but quite a few orange/brassy pieces.. can I bleach a few pieces tomorrow.??
@ellebangs @2:24 You used half & half of 6NA + 8NA. Why not just use 7NA? I have seen pros do this and I always ask but so far no one has replied. Maybe I'll get lucky. :) Thank you
My hair is almost impossible to get rid of red tones and i refuse to go blonde again or balayage is there a dye that you swear by for a level 5/6 that ashes the crap out of brown hair?
any box dye that has ash in it first try to rinse your hair with a very small amount of dark blue (any dark blue box dye) and 20 % vol developper and aloot of shampoo leave it in your hair for 2 minutes or less and rinse it .let your hair rest for a day and then dye it with 6.1 or 6.11 of any brand (6.11 well tone the hell out of it trust me ) check her video ruclips.net/video/mlYvLtulKwA/видео.html
i WISH i had white gray hair, i got several hairs, if i'm like my dad only in my 60's i'll have enough white hair to go fully blonde. i'm in the process of lighting it slowly with a chemical relaxer. so i'm doing it carefully! thanks for the info!
I've bleached twice and still can't lift the final red orange sections! I will bleach again but might give up on going back to white and put a medium blonde dye over. Thanks for your videos they help a lot. X
The orange to blonde color correction you did looks amazing! I have a few questions if you can answer that would be great! So did you bleach the hair and then apply the redken combination? Secondly instead of the 8na+6na, can I mix equal portions of 8n, 8a ,6n, and 6a to get the same result as the 8na+6na combination? And lastly, do you recommend toning the hair afterwards or leaving this as is. Thank you so much!
Thank you sooooo much for these awesome tutorials! I now feel that I can properly direct my stylist. I have always been told that I had to have dark roots to cover my grey, which I always hate. So glad to know its not true. Please do more videos on what women with a lot of grey can do without actually going grey
Your hair is always beautiful and I don't know if its the lighting but your hair seems to look more ashy kind of taking out that spark in your blonde hair I usually see.
I would like to see a video about hair accessories. I think I severly damaged my hair for years by constantly wearing my hair in a ponytail and wearing the wrong hair accessories. I thought it was the bleach and toner causing damage, but I now I'm pretty sure it was the everyday ponytail and poor quality rubber bands. My hair is finally growing after years of uneven hair, no longer than ear length on the sides, and the back not growing past 5".
At 4:16 bang on....all the hairdressers i have visted all these years did that to cover gray they deposited lot of color on my hair and it turned jet black..which i never wanted i wanted to go lighter and lighter so when my Gray roots come back it doesn't look that bad...i have ended up spending thousands of dollars....i don't trust any hairdresser any more i wish you have done this vedio few years back....or i have been your client.but thanks so much for making this vedio.
Omg. my hair was about that same color (slightly brassy/orange) I went into my hairdresser to get it to lighten and freshen up my balayage. I ended up with 3 different colors! I don't know what to do, I hate to complain. I went to the same person who has lightened my hair.
Redken Cover Fusion seems to do a much better job than Redken Chromatics for some reason? I love Chromatics gentle no after fragrance formula, but it just doesn’t cover on course hair with over 50% gray.
Thank you sweetie! What a blessing you! I am grateful for you! You take your time to help others who want to do their own hair, even though your a hairdresser! I think that's amazing! Thank you so much!!
I love your videos!..but I am probably one of many who are at home hair coloring and do not have access to product beyond Sally’s. Please please give us a heads up on Sally’s brands that are somewhat comparable. We would love it!
Excellent talk on sharing your professional knowledge. I am going thru reddish color and cannot obtain that pretty blonde highlights on my brown base color since my last color treatment. I need to find a color specialist in my area of NYC using Redken specialized products.
You didn’t listen to a word she said huh? Toner doesn’t work on dark hair for covering brass or greys. You need a permanent fully pigmented color like 6NN /6NA to full saturate the hair shaft as a toner is not pigmented enough. Listen to the first part of the video she explains it in like the first few minutes.
We have Redken school in our town, the students do my hair. so great for the $$❤🕉❤❤your videos I learn so much it helps me communicate better about what I want. Thank you for sharing
Can I mix age beautiful 8A & 6N To get rid of my red brassy mess? My hair color was very dark, sangria was the color had purple and red in it now I’m going back blonde. I understand it’s a process but this is hideous
Great advice! I love your blonde tones, what formula do you use? I normally use Redkens Shades EQ 9v with clear but I always feel like I can still see yellowy tones in my hair even after leaving it in for 20 minutes
Always enjoy your videos! Do the double pigments in Color Fusion give you darker results? I have been using Schwarzkopf for many years and their double pigments deposit darker than what you would expect from the level on the tube. I am trying to get away from Schwarzkopf and would like to get as many tips on the Redken line as possible. Thank you!!
My natural hair color is a light/medium ash brown and I’ve ombré my hair and it made it really orange and red and I’ve tried everything but I’ll try this ❤️
can anyone tell me how did she use 6 NA and 8 NA i mean she didnt bleach the hair before ? did she just dye the hair with the 6NA and 8 NA and covered it with foils to give it that color ?
I seriously have been trying to get my hair this ashy blonde color for months and every time my stylish tones it, it washes out first wash and turns more golden/brassy I use matrix so silver 1-2 weekly. Suggestions?! Thanks love💕😘
Ok, stupid question since I am not a professional. Would 7NN be something like a light brown or dark blonde? I’m looking for a very cool light brown. Nothing fancy. I just used 5A and it’s a bit too dark. It looks more like a medium brown. Like the coverage. Not redken brand though. Thanks for your videos
madelainem2 what brand do you use? I'm not a professional but I have experience doing my own hair, I use 7A to blend my light brown/dark blonde roots so I'd say a level 6 is a light to medium brown, but keep in mind every brand's level and toning system is slightly different
What's the best way to color my hair, so it won't come out so dark all the time?? I'm 66 years old. I have gray hair underneath my dark hair. Thank you!
Hi I will like to know what developer number I can use for the 7nn my hair right now is lock like a medium brown but I wish to have ashy but I want to try first the 7nn to see how goes thanks?
I am a professional colorist and I struggle with the gels for vibrant red. I have a client who wants that mahogany color what do yiu mix she is a level 5-6 with on her outgrown root area ends are foiled with different levels to give movement but it always seems dull. After about 2 weeks. Thanks for any advice
I went on ESalon & bought 2 of your product recommendations; the root lifter in blue bottle & that hair cuticle sealer sealer stuff in the pink bottle. Can’t wait to try them! I’m going over to Sephora now to buy some Olaplex😊
I have been watching your videos I am about 80% grey I have had used medium brown and finally decided I want to go really light so that I can stop the coloring. I bleached my hair it did get brassy, i tried a medium ash even a light ash and had some change. Between some gold blonde still a little brass. I just don’t want to go darker because of my grey hair. Any suggestion, I did it myself because I have been to salons and end up in the same boat. I guess what I am trying to do is getting as close to my grey as possible, so that it can blend with my grey and I don’t have to color my hair often as when I had my dark hair. Which I had to do my greys every 3 weeks. Thank you
I have orange in hair from from using lightener on my hair which I coloured it weeks ago with brown to get rid of grey how do I get orange can I use a light brown mocha 7.46 Color rest of my hair is blonde I’m normally hair is dark brown originally but I changed over years to blonde just want to get orange tones out of hair at top of hair what do I use can you please help Thankyou
Tracey Lotz I’ve been going to Sally beauty for years. Love it. They are full of advice really helpful. I watch Silvia’s videos and then go to Sally beauty then buy products. I love the Ion brand and for bleach. I Love Love ion cream lightener bright white, easy on the hair and lifts the hardest to lift hair quickly. My daughters hair is a 7 level and I can highlight her hair with no brassy tones.
I’m waiting to get my hair done right now. I’m not sure how to explain how I want my hair! My highlights have become to blended or blurred. I want more contrast. :/
I want hair to have a violet look when in the sun. But it always turns that brassy look. I like a level 6bv in redken chromematics beyond coverage. It comes out brassy especially after a few washes. Help.
Omg I sooooo need your help I colored my cousins hair did a balayage and it’s orange what should I do ??? Should I bleach it again and tone it but I need help in what to use she wants it like yours something like it
Your hair looks like a mixture of pink purple brown grey silver and lavender...is this a camera problem or are those the colors of your hair? Im not a fashion trendy person and i dont keep up with the trends so please let me know if this is a camera issue or your intended hair color..thank you btw you are stunningly gorgeous!!

lamicho2005 I’m thinking the same, someone please share insight
I believe there is no 7NA. Mixing equal parts of 8NA and 6NA make a 7NA.
ELLE!! Please can you do a review type video on Garnier Olia B++ and B+++ super bleach box dyes?!
Omg. my hair was about that same color (slightly brassy/orange) I went into my hairdresser to get it to lighten and freshen up my balayage. I ended up with 3 different colors! I don't know what to do, I hate to complain. I went to the same person who has lightened my hair.
Love your hair colour in this! ❤️
I wish you could suggest a hair stylist in Charlotte, NC that is as passionate about hair color or a blonde specialist like you.
What would i get if i was going to Sally's?
Sia Thao. Yes please i need some like that but in sally
Wella has similar colors. But they are a bit darker
Incredibly informative, as usual! Thanks so much for a great video.
How do you make the darker roots not brassy? I tried the toner you recommended and it worked on the blonde parts, but not the darker parts of my hair?
You didn’t listen to a word she said huh? Toner doesn’t work on dark hair for covering brass or greys. You need a permanent fully pigmented color like 6NN /6NA to full saturate the hair shaft as a toner is not pigmented enough. Listen to the first part of the video she explains it in like the first few minutes.
Great results! however the video doesn't talk about the specific details of why and how to use these product for amateur DYI-ers.
We have Redken school in our town, the students do my hair.
so great for the $$❤🕉❤❤your videos I learn so much it helps me communicate better about what I want. Thank you for sharing
You held up the 30 volume developer. Is that the level you use with the Color Fusion or does it vary?
how do you tone to get the colour you have here on you? and how could we do it at home
🧐
Loved all your info, so much knowledge you have.
Thankyou so much for this video!! Also, I just saw your redken ad!! Great job!!
I did it and my hair ended up like yours with brown patches how do you deal with that?
Can I mix age beautiful 8A & 6N
To get rid of my red brassy mess?
Thank you!!
+Cristiann Milano not at all!! True color results with the staying power of an NN and the strong neutral and ash tones
Thank you!!!
My natural hair color is a light/medium ash brown and I’ve ombré my hair and it made it really orange and red and I’ve tried everything but I’ll try this ❤️
What type of everyday shampoo would you suggest for grey hair?
I've been letting my hair naturally go grey and I've noticed it's a different texture
How much would you charge for highlights and regrows gray hair?
Thank you.
love your hair color! can you share what formulas you used?
can anyone tell me how did she use 6 NA and 8 NA i mean she didnt bleach the hair before ? did she just dye the hair with the 6NA and 8 NA and covered it with foils to give it that color ?
Love the lip color which seems to match eye shadow and blush. What color is that?
I seriously have been trying to get my hair this ashy blonde color for months and every time my stylish tones it, it washes out first wash and turns more golden/brassy I use matrix so silver 1-2 weekly. Suggestions?! Thanks love💕😘
I have the same problem. Water is too hard. But the filter thing to get soft water is super expensive.
Please please do a video on how to get a ginger red/orange color..
I’ve bleached my hair and it now has both yellow tones and some orange tones in it. Will this work in my case?
So for all the formula's we're mixing a 30v?
PS-The pink background is smashing!
This video helped me so much !!! love ya sylvia !!!
What's the best way to color my hair, so it won't come out so dark all the time?? I'm 66 years old. I have gray hair underneath my dark hair. Thank you!
You need to come to the UK! Would love my hair done by you!
What if you want red and need to cover grey
Hi I will like to know what developer number I can use for the 7nn my hair right now is lock like a medium brown but I wish to have ashy but I want to try first the 7nn to see how goes thanks?
I am a professional colorist and I struggle with the gels for vibrant red. I have a client who wants that mahogany color what do yiu mix she is a level 5-6 with on her outgrown root area ends are foiled with different levels to give movement but it always seems dull. After about 2 weeks. Thanks for any advice
You are a doll !!! i am new to your channel so glad i found you !!!
I went on ESalon & bought 2 of your product recommendations; the root lifter in blue bottle & that hair cuticle sealer sealer stuff in the pink bottle. Can’t wait to try them!
I’m going over to Sephora now to buy some Olaplex😊
Allyson Sixx Costello I know right! When the only Sephora store opened up in my city I was there to be the first customer 👍🏻
nice tutorial but we don't have those hair color brands in the Philippines.
No hay did you use to tone the light hair on the first model?
Thank you
Thank you so much for your priceless tips.
This gave me hope for whenever I get grey hair! I was scared I was gona have to use Black always lol
Where can we purchase redken products when we are doing this ourselves at home?
@ellebangs, I can't find ANY videos on how to tone brassy lowlights. My blondes are fine, but the lowlights are brassy. Do you have any tips?? Thanks!
What if I didn’t bleach my hair. And I box dyed it. And put these toners in. Will it work?
Great video Silvia! Would you have any suggestions for your DIY viewers on best brands of color AND bleach at Sally’s?
Tracey Lotz I’ve been going to Sally beauty for years. Love it. They are full of advice really helpful. I watch Silvia’s videos and then go to Sally beauty then buy products. I love the Ion brand and for bleach. I Love Love ion cream lightener bright white, easy on the hair and lifts the hardest to lift hair quickly. My daughters hair is a 7 level and I can highlight her hair with no brassy tones.
Sherry Dufrenne thanks Sherry! I love doing my own hair, I'll try those products!
Can you use that bleach on the scalp ?
leolady29100 Yes!! I do all the time for my roots!!
I’m waiting to get my hair done right now. I’m not sure how to explain how I want my hair! My highlights have become to blended or blurred. I want more contrast. :/
Sevipants19 I suggest to find a picture of your desired look and bring it to the salon.
I want hair to have a violet look when in the sun. But it always turns that brassy look. I like a level 6bv in redken chromematics beyond coverage. It comes out brassy especially after a few washes. Help.
Awesome video….would I only apply the combo 8na/6na to the roots or entire hair after bleaching highlights?
Omg I sooooo need your help I colored my cousins hair did a balayage and it’s orange what should I do ??? Should I bleach it again and tone it but I need help in what to use she wants it like yours something like it
Was a toner used after this! I'm about to dye right now.
