1:33 - 1:50 Immigrant Song
yeah, sounds awesome, its just like how he played it on the Infectious Grooves cover of the full song
Love that cover!
One of my all time favorite slap bass songs, and that’s on top of knowing and loving the original version way beforehand!
Whoever says Robert is shit they even don't know what bass is!!!! Cliff was awesome !!!! So do Jason and so do Robert !!!!! Everybody have their own techniques!!!!
+Bishnu Poudel In my opinion, Jason was too based on the rythmic to be considered as a great bassist as Cliff and Rob, but that's my own opinion, nobody's forced to agree.
I agree
There is not a single bass player that has as many styles as Trujillo. He is truly one of a kind.
Not interested in a debate about who is best. Just came here to appreciate the talent of one Robert trujillo, a phenomenally talented dude 👏🏻
They're all great bassists. In their own ways. But Rob is just something else. This guy is just a fucking machine at bass. No doubt
It never ceases to amaze me how Metallica continues to pick out the best talent to fill the bass players position. Cliff, Jason, and Rob have inspired me to want to learn bass. I was skeptical of him at first, but time and time again, Rob has proven to be an inspired, brilliant, and talented bassist who was more than deserving to fill Jason's spot.
you people need to stop crying about robert trujillo.... he's not gonna quit because of youtube comments....
2:59 - 3:20 sounds so awesome!!
I grew up with Jason on bass and will always cherish that version of Metallica a bit more. But as Cliff and Jason where the best in their era's of Metallica, Rob is the best for this one. If Metallica wanted anybody different they would have found someone different when they auditioned people.
Personally I'm not always on board with Rob's bass sound (and I don't like 5-strings) but I really like the way he plays.
The rumble of that bass, the low B, I bet it made people shit their pants, I'm listening thru headphones and my stomach is gurgling.
one BAD
MOTHER
BEEP!
What a beast
Cliff was THEN....Rob is NOW.
Cliff is and Artist
Jason is cool but plays Bass like guitar
Rob is an actual Bassist
I love all three so no bias opinions but for me rob was a bigger influence on me because he is a Latino bass player in metal and as a Latino metal fan it warms me to see a Latino metal bassist
Very good stuff. I like Rob in Metallica a lot. He has got a powerful stage presence and plays damn good. Just right for Metallica.
3:22 to 3:45 FUCKING AWESOME
Jaco was his inspiration. RT is one bad ass bass player
4:05 - 6:00
Is he using an echo pedal at 1:20
rob is an awesome bass player! check his work with infectious and suicidal! was a session player for ozzy and now has the gig of a life time! he is just amazing. rip cliff.. today is his birthday! jason is a kick ass musician and is missed...
This is a real bass player I stumbled on a nikki sixx bass solo and read the comments and ppl where just saying how good of a bass solo it was and I was like I guess they have never heard of ROBERT TRUJILLO 🤘🏽🤘🏽the real bass man
Well dipshit sorry to tell ya, Trujillo actually has more than Cliff had (which is quick fingers and a distortion pedal), If you actually listen to Suicidal Tendencies/Infectious Grooves you'll hear what Trujillo actually has to offer.
I dont like to compare Cliff to others. He's the hero, he's the best.
Rob has got magical fingers :D
You give Cliff too little credit. He had a fantastic talent for arranging and coming up with unorthodox parts. Just listen to the little fills and melodicisms that pop up in most Metallica songs he played on. Not to mention how he helped with songwriting on the next two albums.
Rob Trujillo isn't just a bassist, it's a life style
Great solo thanks for posting =)
as for anyone hating on Jason.....Judging him by what he did with Metallica is worse than judging Steve Vai by a Whitesnake concert.
rob is a flamingo guitarist , Clif and jason are just a Beginner's for him .
Rodi Makdesi did you mean flamenco?
@@RihannaIsIluminati yep
Sounds funky and heavy at the same time just great :)
had the pleasure of seeing him in toronto with metallica years ago hes a great bass player and his energy on stage is awsome.
dude this guy is a beast and he looks like a hell of a dude i think he brought some peace to metallica man.. thats just my opinion
Dang i knew he was good, i'm just suprised about his versitility. Awesome performance.
He is such a great bass player. Best choise for the struggling Metallica of the early 00's.
Ok, I get that people did really like Cliff Burton, but why cant we get over the fact that metallica's bassist is now Robert Tuijillo. Cliff was amazing but Rob is amazing too so stop fighting and appreciate what metallica have become. Im a young Metallica fan and proud. While you all are all fighting i'll be enjoying the AMAZING song.
R.I.P Cliff Burton.
i reckon that Robert Trujillo has done a brilliant job in stepping in cliff shoes hes walking them well
RIP Cliff
@wichtermaster I applaud you. Finally, someone who makes sense and sees the truth instead of blindly following one bassist like a sick puppy.
all four of Metallicas bass players have all been very talented. I allways loved ST, and this dude brings a bad ass edge to Metallica
@PatsUnbeaten I usually don't comment on here, but tapping has been around alot longer than buckethead (van halen / rhoads both in the 70's), and people were using distortion way before cliff (geezer butler - NIB in 1969).
@Cliff2Burton I totally agree with you. He was definitely one of the best bass players in metal at the time.
Robert is no replacement!!!! he is fucken brilliant in his own right.
Beautifullism in it's most beautifull way... Thanks Rob! (4:21 Goose bumps 4:44 Even more... WOW)
I'll admit I wasn't too impressed with Rob at first but, I must say my opinion of him is changing after hearing this. Pretty badass I must say.
they need to put a studio version of this on their next album
@lockyyyyyyyy Thank you for this post. I have never known how to put it into words. I think Death Magnetic is the continuation of their legacy. While they have gotten older, in my opinion, their music has evolved. There is something to love on every album. Yes, I love St. Anger, too. It is so raw and unlike anything else they have done. All the songs on DM are wonderful. Keep it metal and Peace.
@TheBunkone Ok thanks for the input but all I was saying is people are fighting over who is the better bassist when it all just depends on which style of Metallica you prefer. Of course I like Metallica but the only reason they stopped the thrash metal is because of Cliff's death. Then they change their style up when Rob joined, then when he left and they got Rob in, they changed to deep heavy metal.
@aLuCaRdHTTB One thing he does to get such a clear sound is he also plays through some marshall guitar cabs along with his regular bass rig.
@tehgreyyy I agree, bass solo belongs in dodgy jazz clubs not rock concerts. Along with drum solo sessions.
@metalmillita666 I think Rob fits perfectly in. Much more than James ever did. Rob is exactly the big animal Metallica needed.
rob makes me proud to be a bassist, and to never be a wannabe guitard when it comes to solos
@4stringFanatico I agree. McGovney only played bass because they told him to, not because he wanted to.
all the metallica bassists rock and i like em all for different reasons, infact they are the reason why im going to learn how to play the bass
i wonder if this "he is better" "no he is better" will EVER END .... be happy that metallica is STILL PLAYING and didnt quit
......saviour of metallica...Hail robert !
@xboxdragondude Here's my issue with that. They're incredibly different from one another. Rob is very straightforward and is amazing with technique. Cliff... Cliff was an improviser. He was very progressive. He enjoyed using effects, a wah pedal, a compressor, everything. While Trujilo can play amazing songs, Cliff can *create* amazing songs. Both are wonderful bassists and musicians, just in different ways. You know what I mean?
while cliff could write circles around rob, i think that as far as pure playing ability goes i would have to go with rob. being able to play that amazingly clean at that speed is just astonishing.
metallica's bassists especially cliff and robert is the reason i became a bassist.
@mrbassman25
I totally agree with Cliff being a guitarist on the bass and that the whole argument is just big BS!
I love Rob, he was the one who showed me that there was more to bass than just be the one nobody hears, but be on the stage. Of course I listened to Cliff Burton, but he was dead allready when I started to get into heavy metal. He truely is a veteran on the bass, he is a bass hero. 'nough said.
But one hero, barely visible behind the shadow of the last one, is Robert Trujilo.
I think it's u that didn't hear or don't know good music....his techniques r amazing....he does all of this with his fingers....no picks...Rob is a quality bassist
Damn, 1:19 is powerful af
i agree with you every musician is ireplaceable, the music will have diferent directions with the variation of just one member
i thought that aswell, i just hope to god that this was goin out on the radio or somet
@BiggyTalls93 Yeah, and in an interview he said he doesnt like to swear when his kids are in the audience, James is a good dad
in my opinion, he has the most skill and knowledge as a bassist that makes him the best out of all the metallica bassists. i mean i not a huge fan of the bass disortion that they use but hey, he's does what he does, and does it amazing.
this sounds boss. why is everyone hatin on trujillo? all bassists are bassists. if they play the song the same, then what does it matter?
Wow, he really is pretty good. I haven't cared for Metallica's music over the last decade or so, but this guy is great. And, I agree with the guy who posted this: stop comparing him to Cliff, please. Cliff was great too, but they are two different people with two very different styles.
@Pavelzamora . Finally someone on youtube who agrees with me. Lars= More facial expression than actual skill on drums?
@ManBearPigInc you are 100% on the money!. when you watch cliff audition for metallica, you compare for whom the bell tolls with cliff...its almost identica! i think that he is the missing link they tried to fill with jason
I'm a drum player, but I love the sound of an ownage Bass player like Rob', even if it's not Cliff.
Just saw Metallica last night....to good for words.
@MusicVideoJudge1 Dont forget Suicidal Tendencies and the fact that he played with ozzy too. and even a bluegrass band called Nicklecreek
On a personal level I love Rob's dirty heavy bass sound. Jason's sound of playing bass with a pick and the more creative composing from Cliff.
even taugh this guys in the band for 8 fkn years i will always remember him as that new bass player =)
Cliff was very skilled in Bass distortion and wah wah effects.
Jason was... good.
And Rob is an all around skilled bass player.
I have to say, Rob comes close, but Cliff is still my favorite.
@TheGrownUpAdult It was on the Live Shit: Binge and Purge CD. I don't think it has a name. Haven't really been able to tab it or seen any good ones.
2:00 is madness, its just so huge...incredible
face it, noene of us (including these two guys) without Cliff. But dude, This dude kicks ass, follow his history...This isthe way to give props to the great one anyway
Watch this with closed captions and James not swearing becomes the funniest thing in the world.
damn...this revived me up ..this man is awesome..
To each his own. It doesn't matter what bassist you like/prefer. They all played with different styles and are all amazing in their own way. You kind of have to be to be in Metallica. So...I think we should just stop comparing bassists and listen to the music.
If there actually was a bad bass player for Metallica, that was Rob McGovney. But as you all know, he was kicked because of his incompetence. Cliff was accepted. Jason was accepted.Trujillo was also accepted. And that's because they're all great bassists, and they certainly did a great job with Metallica. All of them.
@metallicanerd13 That is from Orion, from the middle part of that "song"
@mysterydego Jason doesn't suck. Metallica muted his bass often in recordings because they were pissed cliff died
all metallicas bassists were good but remember cliff was just 24 when he died and statred when he was like 14 and the other newsted and trujillo are in there 40s so they have had so much more experience, so imagine cliff if he was still alive and how good he would be and trujillo is one badass mother plucker!
I really love older music, like metallica, maybe when i'm old,I will love the modern metallica just as much as the old
no ese wey es la chingonada!!! mejor bajista en el mundo no conozco a otro mejor qe Rob!!!
Rob is an awesome bassist. I really enjoyed listening to his playing.
I remember a time where it was absolutely normal for them to curse during a show. Those were the days...
@MikejR777 yea, Cliff played the Bass more like a Guitar, were as Trujillo plays it like a Bass!
@Ozlanthos Yeah. He wouldn't have let them put out Load and Re-Load that's for sure. They probably would have followed the heavier sounds that Pantera had at that time.
@mitnavnerchristian Cliff is more of a low guitar, Jason is more of an actual bassist and Rob is in between the two.
rock on Robbie! You're an awesome bassist...
You guys know in slap bass the muted notes are just as important as the notes that are actually played...right? Just because he doesn't play it like a guitar doesn't mean he's "hitting the strings randomly."
How the solo turns into the Orion middle part just gave me the creeps. Awesome, I love Rob. Seems Metallica have found their perfect match after all...
i can't play bass, but love listening to it :D
Fan of metallica, but out of their bassists theyve had I still miss cliff. Look up his bass solos they were amazing
@MarcelinePromotions
Yeah just check out that album. Has some of the best riffs and basslines in thrash. He wrote most of it I think.
Though the vocals probly wont be to your liking, at first.
Guys we cant compare Rob and Cliff, you know why cause Cliff died at 24 which means he still had 30 years to get better , now Rob is amazing but no one can say how good Cliff would have been after 30 YEARS , Thats all I am saying
all respect to both Cliff and Robert
@lilith6661985
no.... he was Ozzy's bassist, not 'black sabbaths bassist, or original!
best bassist alive!
I wasn't that big of a fan of Rob when he first started out, but over time he's really grown on me and I think he's great. Plus I really respect his not using a pick. On a side note, does anyone else see in the "related videos" a video of police taking advantage of a drunk girl? It's just so random among all bass videos. Go figure. Oh well.
Holy mother that man is amazing!!
@CiviC092 He did a cover of it when he was Infectious Grooves as well
