What scotty won't say I'd Volkswagen is the largest car manufacturer in the world with toyota behind them
Stupid designers think electronic popup door handles (they even invented a term for this - "self-presenting door handles") are "cool". But it's not cool when they stop working!
Some fools also claim that such handles reduce drag and increase MPG! Well, maybe by 0.000001%, while improperly inflated tires and even fancy wheels can decrease MPG by 10% easily!
My water drain holes constantly get clogged and I find my self driving around with about 4 -5 gallons of water in the doorsm

I'd never own an EV, but I'm completely done with any new car. I'm back to driving old mechanical cars. I don't want high-tech, I want cheap and reliable.
Much of the "high-tech" is mandated; and a lot of those mandates are intended to drive up your costs.
The government push for EVs is a ruse for mass transit.
@@DHW256 I'll stick with the old stuff.
@@DHW256 The manufactures are screwing themselves over with adding all this high-tech stuff which is driving up prices. Modern trucks are a good example where it is out of control...who can afford them anymore?
@@brucefredrickson9677 there is significant padding in the MSRPs for the decked-out trucks -- the cost to manufacture is a tiny fraction of the MSRP. But, yes, they've overdone it. Meanwhile, much of the electronics in all vehicles is now mandatory. It's cheaper logistics-wise, to crank them out with the same tech than it is to make exceptionally simpler vehicles on the same line.
My new '01 GMC Sierra is the base model truck, last year for the V6, and it has more features than I've ever had in a truck, cost $26,700. And I'm sure GM still made a hefty profit.
Consumers need to walk away from this new crap and stick to their old cars.
Unfortunately the japs have fooled young people with animes about tree hugging and a nursery world with no noise and smoke.
It’s simple. They are not designed to last long-term on purpose. They want you to throw away your car and get new ones or not drive any longer and depend on public transportation to take you everywhere.
You know how if you miss a phone payment they stop service to your device . I imagine the same can be done if you miss a payment on your electric automobile . I’m sure there are a ton of unfortunate consequences if everyone transitions to electric cars. We’ll see in time .
The News said that the Electrical Grid is so over stressed and in need of repairs and upgrades that in less than 8 years some areas of the US will experience outages lasting a year or more. And the Government is Pushing EV? They don't want us in private cars you're right about that for sure.
Sounds like like Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦
Yep. The government push for EVs is a ruse for mass transit.
That makes sense because there should be no way that corporations with billions of dollars of assets, with educated engineers, should be this incompetent, whether ICE or electric. There are a lot of problems with newer; both ICE and EV. You may be right?

Im a 30 year Chrysler tech and i already work on hybrids and they suck. It takes forever to get parts, your supposed to wear two layers of rubber gloves to work on them. Its so annoying and preferably use your right hand. Now we are told we are going to be able to service the batteries and change out the cells.
The issue i have is the stuff is so toxic we have to use a protective suit to service the cells.
Im not doing that even if they pay me $150 an hour. Im not going digging around in toxic waist.
Also with the new can communication systems you can burn up controllers with a voltmeter. They are touchy.

@@subaruamazonThey are hot trash. If they’ve had chronic electrical issues this whole time then their hybrids/EVs won’t be any better.
Hybrids are very complicated and dangerous to work on. Even Toyotas. When my Camry hybrid battery went out I had a hard time finding a reputable shop that would agree to diagnose the issue or replace it. I had to refer to the dealer unfortunately which just wasn’t worth it. Selling it made more sense.

As to the subject of Teslas, electric stuff has been inside doors for decades. Power windows, mirrors, locks, and I've seen the result of water infiltration. CORROSION!! As a result, lots of stuff has to be replaced. I can only imagine how bad things can get going forward. Switches motors, circuit boards, etc.
And I agree with Scotty. We are all gradually becoming "prisoners of electrification". Very well put.👍
I once bought a 75 dollar Dodge ram pickup truck, when you made a left turn the passage door would open. I Lube the door lock, adjusted the striker and it fixed the issue.
How many passengers did you lose before you got it fixed? 😮
The real issue here is you paid too much. Dodge....🤮
Everything with cars has gotten way too complicated
And that's why they're so expensive.
And is that why always something does not work.

My friend and I test drove the Volkswagen ID.4. She’s had three Nissan Leaf’s. The interior was beautiful and dang are these EV’s fast, but when we parked and needed to get out, we literally could not figure out if the vehicle was on or off and couldn’t get out of the vehicle for ten minutes. The vehicle has sensors and automatically shuts it off and on. Doors locked and wouldn’t let us out. It was very high tech, very complicated, even for her and she’s experienced with EV’s.
I bet Toyota is buying every EV (Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, Nissan, Ford, Chevy, VW, Fisker and Chinese brands) to see what they are doing right and especially what they are doing wrong so that when they roll out theirs (after they perfect solid state batteries) it would be as trouble-free as possible.

I won't have a VW problem or a GM/Chrysler/Jeep/Tesla/British sports car/Ford/Italian sports car or Range Rover problem. Based upon their reputations, they will never be on my "buy list". The overarching problem is that my 2004 Toyota is still functioning as the first dray, driven brand new.

Hyundai and Kias also get stolen due to their locking mechanisms being easy to hot wire.

The door water thing made me laugh. I was in charge of several Engineers on site at an assembly plant. I was out of town for a couple of days and when I returned, two female "Engineers" informed me that they had a door leak issue but had fixed it. I went out in the plant and they were stuffing foam down in the door to seal "leaks"'. I told them the doors were supposed to leak and if you look at the bottoms, you'll see weep holes and unless the water infiltrates the vapor barrier, there's no problem. So much for DEI.😀
Wow, now multiply such "engineers" across different industries....

Thank you for emphasizing the over-dependence on "computer technology" in every modern car. As in the case of the VW you answered questions about, pretty well ALL cars cannot move without the ECU etc opening semiconductor logic and closing them again.
Computers were first used widely to allow manufacturers to cheap-out on hard wiring by using duplex and triplex power flow. And, as you say, said computers are rather crude and protected by single 5 amp fuses. These only protect the computer against very general overload and do not protect the task modules inside the [often riveted] casing.
Car makers made silly use of gimmicks using logic gates operating at millivolts to have control of 12V supply to such as electric windows, stupid electronic handbrakes and scores of sensors which are meant to control fuel/air, emissions and temperatures instead of all engines being properly tuned on the car before leaving the factory.
It should be a matter of immediate legislation in countries selling motor vehicles to warranty on board computers for 10 years and this would cause the likes of Bosch and others to pay more attention to protections to task modules as well as the mounted whole computer slab and manufacturers need to be caused to site these things accessibly not next to someone's knees.
They should also be forced to hard wire all main systems relating to basic safety and function and get rid of toys -- including air bags which hurt more people than they save, as research since the 1990s has shown.
All vehicles should have volt metres, ammetres, oil temp/pressure dials as well as dials to show the condition of hydraulics instead of fault codes which just light a yellow LED. So does a loose gas tank filler top!
Confusing displays, off center info screens and ludicrous emphasis on smartphones being catered for needs to cease. One is either driving OR phoning and not both. Delivery drivers and emergency services personnel can use ear pieces for necessary in motion information but passengers may use phones drawing signals from roof antennae not integral to anything to do with control of the vehicle.
Proximity short range sensors and rear view cameras need to have closed circuits independent of the onboard ECU because its job is specific and needs to be specified to essentials only.
My views would kill the EV industry stone dead but is will not have a life beyond 20 years from 2023 anyway. In any case, the sheer weight of pure EVs (subsidized in some states and countries) destroys roads and makes them potentially more lethal than cars of similar size. A weight tax is needed immediately.
04 Cadillac CTS is running like a top. Love it!

Same here with my 02 Park avenue, best damn car I've ever owned! Comfy as hell and still getting 30+ mpg on highway.
I love my late 90's GM OBS trucks. One ECM for everything. DTC's are straight forward and the sensors are easy to find. I only use ACdelco sensors, they are still priced right.

1st Gen VW Toureg back in 2003 had bad door handles that would drain the 12v car battery. The door handles were electronic and the micro switches would stay open telling the car not to shut down the computer modules and then drain the battery. Massive tons of cars flooding the Service dept with drained batteries and techs trying to figure out what the H was going on. Electronic door handles have been around for decades.
One of the reason it stops analysing is that one issue could flip more codes and then you start digging into a second problem that may not have flipped if the first was fixed

one issue with the old door handles with rods is, in rare cases, you can break the rod. I had a 1995 lexus SC400, and the driver's side stoped opening. the rod inside had snapped! I could not find one online for less than a few hundred (most places wanted to sell the whole door or assembly). I even took it to a machinist to see if they could just make one. The bends and curves meant that it would not be worth it to make a new one since it would cost to much. so for about 6 months untill I got a newer car I had a nice luxury car that I had to slide into from the passenger side. so, I can KINDA give them a pass on the electric door handles
