I understand that it's supposed to be hard, but I really wish they'd put like a halfway point checkpoint in each section. I mean they go on for a while, and it's demoralizing to die right at the end and have to go aaaaaall the way through it again. I don't know why but I keep having trouble on the freaking rail balloon bit right near the end where you're going upward in a spiral. Then I got annoyed by that and kept messing up at the bit right before it because my hands got shaky. I might just have to live with not being good enough to finish it. That's one of the drawbacks of immersion is it feels like it's some high stakes thing when it isn't and it makes me nervous.
The second hardest part for me was the first section. Dep perception kept fucking with me, and as a result, I would always fall to my death. The second and third parts were easier for me, because the second part is basically one-way ride through target town part 2. But when I got to the octoling battle, I wanted to tear my fucking hair out. I'm having as hard of a time with that section as I am with girl power station!
I'm right before the finish line. I can feel it, but that octoling battle makes me want to rage quit! But I can't do that, or else I'll have to start that entire mission over again!
a helpful tip for the spiral is to make sure you have motion controls on, and aim with the motion controls rather than the stick, dip in every couple of seconds and pop back up. you'll know where the balloons will be because they just go up in a spiral so try to be aiming up
Your video gave me the heart to finally clear phase 1 (after many, many, MANY attempts), the confidence to demolish phases 2 and 3 on the first try, and the technique to persevere through phase 4 after only a couple of attempts. Just in time for Splatfest. ❤ Thank you so much!

A few things to note 1. Squid jumps off walls do not require charging a squid surge first, simply move away from the wall and jump at the same time as if inputting a smash attack in smash bros and you can do it instantly. 2. 4:54 you don't need to time your movements, the sniper will never catch you as long as you don't sit still. 3. 5:38 I recommend switching to burst bombs here as they can paint instantly and all the swimming you're doing is constantly refilling your ink so you don't need to worry about running out. In addition to painting faster, they also paint a larger area than a quick burst from the hero shot, giving a greater margin for error with your jumps. 4. In the second to last section of balloons for the rails you can quickly eliminate most of them with burst bombs, making it easier if you just can't hit them all. The actual last set of balloons falls too fast for burst bombs to work, though. 5. For the big fight, I used splat bombs and the upgrade to track nearby things to force the ai down where I can catch them. Works better in the first wave where there's more geometry to hide behind but the easier time you have with that, the easier the later phases are as you'll hopefully still have your armor protecting you.
The first section is absolutely the gatekeeper. I probably had twice as many attempts from the beginning than the rest of the checkpoints combined. It really is just grinding out until you find a path that works for you. I went in after completing every other stage so had about 30k eggs saved up for retries. Fortunately you recover enough eggs in the stage to offset your use.
Finished it in 4 hours today so my wife could get the bear ears, ty for the guide. Notes: Stage 1 was the most frustrating for me, recommend using Small Fry for alot of distractions that stage. Stage 2, switch between lanes as you aim to shoot the targets when it goes left to right fast. When doing the spiral up with alot of balloons, shoot earlier than in video and spiral up. Good luck with last part. Stage 4, it helps to leave the last octoling alive per wave if they are not too aggressive and can be outpaced so you can ink the map (brushes and rollers). Hugging a corner is good advice, but also let the onesies come to you to splat them. Then immediately check a corner and rush to the ones spawning in for a fast kill, sometimes you can get 2 in a row in same spawn. They get more aggressive towards the last phase, use the default special to ink the area as you go between phases. Also helps to use Small Fry to force octolings to use a special if you miss (there is a cool down, they will use it again). Also Small Fry can take down the Sonars. Recommend switching between him and the Splat Balloons specials.
dude thank you so much for the tips i was also initially doing what Minou was doing in the octoling battle (camping ults) and acting as if the final stage was the last 30 seconds of a turf war and got stuck for a good hour or two... by camping a single spawn at the end, i managed to just barely escape unsplatted. thanks again man, you've saved my nerves and right hand

While I’d call this level anything but easy even with this guide, the camping in one corner strategy finally helped me get through the Octoling battle phase. Thanks for the suggestion! 😉
I gave up after a couple tries on the first part. There is no additional difficulty by having no checkpoints. What is there to gain about doing the same sections over and over? I just get stressed out after failing many times near the end of section 1, to the point that I start failing the very first few jumps and dying to regular enemies. I just read the log online, its not worth getting a headache over this level.

This video genuinely helped me! I'd been stuck at the first platforming session for days, but I beat the whole thing today! After hours of trial and error, still, but this vid really helped me feel like I knew what I was supposed to be doing at least!
4:06 you don't need to do the backward squid roll, I found it easier to use motion controls to look down and time when to release my ZL button and drop through the rings.

If anyone is struggling I highly recommend getting the final upgrade for small fry, he can also act as a distraction against the final octolings just as it would against the more common octo-enemies.

Came back to this video to say thank you for the tips! I just finished After Alterna today. I gotta say this level truly test your patience. There would be times I felt like giving up. The rails phrase was the one I was stuck on the longest. The octoling battle was hard, but was kinda fun.
You can get extra armor during the octoling battle by going through all the specials. It will give you inkcaster and spawn two armors. I like to leave one octoling alive during the second battle (distract with smallfry) so I can go through the specials. Still trying to beat it though ^^;
I got an error code on the third wave of the final stage and my game shut down. Second time I got to the final stage I beat it and my controller drift drove me off the edge of the map.... So here I am I third time and looking up a guide to try to cheese it. Thank you you have no idea how much I've struggled lmfao
This is really helpful, it’s helped me to decide not to bother with this level 🙃 How do the checkpoints work in this, like if I did manage to get to one, then quit to do something else, can I restart from the checkpoint or just back to the beginning?
Well I kept trying…and I finally did it! Your guide really was a big help, I must have watched it 20 times now. For me, the first section was by far the hardest, so many deaths, 2 and 3 got through in about half an hour, and then a couple of hours on the octolings. But the important thing is, I don’t have to play single player Splatoon any more
Am i the only one that targets took LONGER than octolings? I swear it only took me an hour on the octolings, but 2 hours and 30 mins to finish the targets lol. Oh and to top it off, *i play with stick controls*

I've been trying to do this level since last year and have never succeeded. Don't think I can be bothered dealing with this tbh. Many Stages in the Campaign were really stressful so the prospect of playing an even harder Stage yet again is not appealing to me, certainly in this game anyway.

I'm so glad i just beat this after like so many hours of trying and this video helped a lot😅 straight to the point and not discouraging us with the difficulty For that last stage, last wave. The two most important tips for me was 1. Stay near the bottom left side of the stage. I'm not sure why, but in my case, the octolings just seemed to go there a lot less than the bottom right hand side. You also get the guaranteed shot to knock an enemy out with a smallfry when you toss from a distance. That's really good because once they begin to use specials on you, you have to start serpentining basically 😭 2. On the second wave, if you go between the two canned specials enough times, you will eventually get the zipcaster and armor will spawn on the top pillars. this is a MASSIVE help as it means you can afford to get hit a few times on the third round, which helps when splat bombs and wave breakers are basically spammed at you all the time 😭😭😭
how do I do the railings for someone who has bad depth perception? I jump and I either jump too much or jump too little or in a different way. And I die constantly. I can’t get past the 1st part cause of it and I really want the bear ears.
Hi! What helped me is, whenever I tried to switch rails, my stick should be all the way to the left or right. Whenever it was pointing between front and /or left, I would fall too. Hope this helps!
If you flick the stick while you jump, the way you would when squid rolling or surging, you should “cling jump” to the rail. There is a pink dotted line (very faint, but it’s there) where the next rail will show up. Good luck!

I beat all the levels and got all of the collectibles and sunken scrolls in the story. This is a level I will not mess with so I enjoyed watching you do it instead, the reward isn’t worth it for beating this level for me either. Now onto multiplayer mode.
I wish I watched this before beating this level. This makes it look like a cakewalk lol. But for a tip, using burst bombs in the level really worked for me when I replayed the level

For those who struggle on the octoling part: Utilize your little bro as much as possible, he distracts the octolings giving you a window to go in to take them out. Second thing is play around your splashdown ultimate as well, I used it to get me out of tough places and ended up beating the octoling part after 2 tries and the whole level in an hour.
You made it look way easier than it actually is i have been at this for a day and a half, with breaks, and still haven't made it past the last moving block puzzle
You made the balloon section look so easy! I recently started After Alterna and I’m really struggling with that section. I was under the impression that the first section was the hardest, but the circular paths are really difficult to handle.

Last year, I was able to beat After Alterna’s final segment using your technique, Abyx Gaming. I want to thank you for your videos they really helped me get through the difficult variations of levels and hope to see help for when Side Order comes out with it’s difficult level variations. Quick note: I used the bomb throw button to call back Lil Buddy instead of the D-Pad because it would swap bomb types which inconvenience me in a tense situation of the waves of Octolings.

I feel that Side Order will play like a rougelite…judging from the footage seen in the direct. This is me spitballing here but I bet the rewards for completing runs with the weapons provided in this mode will be rewarded similarly to the Hero Shot Replica.
Correction on the squid rolls. You DO NOT need to squid jump to do the squid rolls on the walls. All you need to do is flick in the opposite direction and push jump I believe. Edit: also on the blind jump on the moving pillar portion, you can jump down normally onto the platform but it is harder if your off the mark
IF YOURE STRUGGLING ON OCTOLING WAVE 3: Do what he did, and mostly stay in the back corner. Move around, don’t stay still. Use your small fry and throw him behind enemies so they target him. Once that’s done, just kill them. They instant target small fry so use him as distraction

Another thing at 4:06, you can skip squid rolling by falling down beforehand. This is useful if you can’t roll consistently, or if you like speed.

After probably 8 or 9 hours on JUST THE BATTLE, I finally got it done.
I'm 8 hours in, and I still can't get past the last wave of Octolings. I guess at this pint I just have to keep on tyring

If you quit, you start back from the beginning. Make sure your controller settings are how you like them!

So glad Splatoon 2 had those octoling ai sections that I loved so much, I credit those as the reason I beat the octoling battle first try. However phase 1? THE. WORST.
I started crying halfway through this kettle. it has been 2 fucking hours.
I've been trying to do this level since last year and have never succeeded. This year I got to the octoling zone where the third wave was impossible for me. but thanks to your technique of staying behind and waiting for them to arrive it brought me success, I swear I thank you, I was just about to give up for good 😁
Don't think I can be bothered dealing with this tbh. Many Stages in the Campaign were really stressful so the prospect of playing an even harder Stage yet again is not appealing to me, certainly in this game anyway.

I actually completed the octoling section in two tries!!!
I was struggling so hard on the last part so I came here and the camping strategy made it so easy and I quickly finished the level thanks

I'm so glad i just beat this after like so many hours of trying and this video helped a lot😅 straight to the point and not discouraging us with the difficulty
For that last stage, last wave. The two most important tips for me was 1. Stay near the bottom left side of the stage. I'm not sure why, but in my case, the octolings just seemed to go there a lot less than the bottom right hand side. You also get the guaranteed shot to knock an enemy out with a smallfry when you toss from a distance. That's really good because once they begin to use specials on you, you have to start serpentining basically 😭
2. On the second wave, if you go between the two canned specials enough times, you will eventually get the zipcaster and armor will spawn on the top pillars. this is a MASSIVE help as it means you can afford to get hit a few times on the third round, which helps when splat bombs and wave breakers are basically spammed at you all the time 😭😭😭

how do I do the railings for someone who has bad depth perception? I jump and I either jump too much or jump too little or in a different way. And I die constantly. I can’t get past the 1st part cause of it and I really want the bear ears.
Hi! What helped me is, whenever I tried to switch rails, my stick should be all the way to the left or right. Whenever it was pointing between front and /or left, I would fall too. Hope this helps!

If you flick the stick while you jump, the way you would when squid rolling or surging, you should “cling jump” to the rail. There is a pink dotted line (very faint, but it’s there) where the next rail will show up. Good luck!

It took me 1 and a half years
For the octolings, use your splat bombs! they kill in one hit, and you can throw quite a few of them in Alterna mode once your hero gear is upgraded.
OMG, the corner was a good strategy. I was trying like all day and this finally worked
I beat all the levels and got all of the collectibles and sunken scrolls in the story. This is a level I will not mess with so I enjoyed watching you do it instead, the reward isn’t worth it for beating this level for me either. Now onto multiplayer mode.

I wish I watched this before beating this level. This makes it look like a cakewalk lol. But for a tip, using burst bombs in the level really worked for me when I replayed the level

I would suggest giving it a try! It takes a lot of practice and many of the folks in the comments have taken a lot of time to defeat this stage. :)

Been trying to get past the first bit for hours now. I'd be happy if they released a DLC with more difficult ones like this
For those who struggle on the octoling part: Utilize your little bro as much as possible, he distracts the octolings giving you a window to go in to take them out. Second thing is play around your splashdown ultimate as well, I used it to get me out of tough places and ended up beating the octoling part after 2 tries and the whole level in an hour.
Been trying this for several days, hopefully this helps me get past the first section, I'm constantly losing at the last bit of section one
You made it look way easier than it actually is i have been at this for a day and a half, with breaks, and still haven't made it past the last moving block puzzle

You made the balloon section look so easy! I recently started After Alterna and I’m really struggling with that section. I was under the impression that the first section was the hardest, but the circular paths are really difficult to handle.
It took A LOT of tries, believe me! Just find what's most comfortable for you. And also maybe try some burst bombs!

Last year, I was able to beat After Alterna’s final segment using your technique, Abyx Gaming. I want to thank you for your videos they really helped me get through the difficult variations of levels and hope to see help for when Side Order comes out with it’s difficult level variations.
Quick note: I used the bomb throw button to call back Lil Buddy instead of the D-Pad because it would swap bomb types which inconvenience me in a tense situation of the waves of Octolings.

I feel that Side Order will play like a rougelite…judging from the footage seen in the direct. This is me spitballing here but I bet the rewards for completing runs with the weapons provided in this mode will be rewarded similarly to the Hero Shot Replica.
Correction on the squid rolls. You DO NOT need to squid jump to do the squid rolls on the walls. All you need to do is flick in the opposite direction and push jump I believe.
Edit: also on the blind jump on the moving pillar portion, you can jump down normally onto the platform but it is harder if your off the mark
IF YOURE STRUGGLING ON OCTOLING WAVE 3:
Do what he did, and mostly stay in the back corner. Move around, don’t stay still. Use your small fry and throw him behind enemies so they target him. Once that’s done, just kill them. They instant target small fry so use him as distraction
