Hi Jody, I haven't done any welding for over 25 years but still like watching your videos. Best arc shots hands down, informative direct information without the need to add a street hiphop bass line.
Jody. I just started learning to weld with my mig welder. I’m 56. I learned how to stick weld 40 years ago (not professionally..just around the house stuff.). I now have three sons and two son-in-laws. I’m watching your mig basics videos from 6 years ago then I try to teach my guys. You’re making me look like a pro! I just wanted to say thanks very much. Merry Christmas, brother.
Even Jody's old videos have better arc shots than some current welding videos. Plus his no nonsense teaching style will get you to understand welding in no time.
Hey Jody just want to thank you for the TIG Finger you brought to the market. I weld stainless and aluminum on MRI machines. My company has both the regular and XL in the Fastenal machine for free and they have saved my knuckles on many occasions. Been watching your videos for the past ten years it seems like. Thank you so much for the tips and tricks to land a career I finally have a passion for. Much respect from Albany NY.
A machinist asked me how you learned to do over head welding without getting burned. I said "you'll learn real quick if you practice with no gloves while wearing a tee shirt."
Hi Jody , You are very inspiration and professional I’ve been watching you for years I just want to say your videos are great I’ve really been learning alot . this video reminds me of my days in welding school Way to go !!
Really appreciate your 7018 videos. Don't have TIG nor enough lifetime left to learn it. Had a Thunderbolt for 40 years but seldom use it, especially since I've acquired O/F and MIG but now all of a sudden I'm finding projects that stick is the way! NOW have to decide whether to use my AC buzzbox or up my game to a DC machine. Anyway, thanks for presenting lessons on all modes of welding along with tips and tricks. BTW, I can certainly identify with the grinding mode issue. First time that happened I just taped over the grind mode button...you're right, it's bright!
Jody, the arc shots are awesome, the quality of your videos is so totally great. You are really helping lots of people to get a clue, on what to do. Thank you again, I can watch your videos over and over. Keep it dark. Jim Tree
I have found that some 7018 rods they are not centered in the flux. We bought a bunch of 5/32" once and over half wasn't centered, we sent them back! Now I always watch for it. If not centered I turn the rod so the thicker part is on the opposite direction your welding. Keeps your weld from spitting out on you. And you can run faster and hotter. Thanks for the video!
Thank you Jody! Always learn something new, or am refreshed on what I’ve learned or forgotten! Appreciate all that you do for the welding community! Always my “ Go to” 🙏⭐️😇
I have a lincoln 210mp, man I have a difficult time getting the rods to start and keep getting them stuck. Wish I could make it as smooth as alot of you guys do. This was a cool comparison.
This is weird because I've had two instructors and they say the opposite on the second passes. Both make sense when THEY say it, but when it comes to doing overhead for myself, I prefer what you do from the bottom-up. One of the instructors said "You can't build a house from the top down."
Hey I apologize for the delay. Sometimes our emails get caught up in spam filters. We will make sure to take care of you. Please email us through our Contact us page and check your spam folder to make sure we are on the same page weldmongerstore.com/community/contact
I learned about the side by side 2F vs 4F on the same piece (that I've never seen before on youtube) and I also learned about another way to counter arc blow that I've never heard of before. Thank you for sharing your true wisdom sir. Something I need to tell my buddies about at Thanksgiving tomorrow- is weldingtipsandtricks on youtube ;) lol.
Thank you sir on your video that I watch ihave learn more about stick welding techniques in overhead just now studies smaw in our country Philippines one of our national school TESDA this a government institution sir thank you and good morning hopefully you have more videos coming
Great channel. Love the content and the podcast as well. Getting back into welding after many years off. Keep up the content. I’ll be ordering the Tig finger. Looks like a very useful product
I'm surprised at how well I picked up stick when I had a real instructor. I usually always run about 130 to 135 cuz its what worked for me, overhead I had no issues. My instructor was also surprised by my welds at the perfect 180 degrees plate in overhead.
I thing being able to feel the difference between the vibration of the arc and the feel of the flux touching and dragging on the base metal may be important to keeping a tight arc
Definitely makes a difference. I’ve had instructors come in the booth when welding and start pushing on the back stinger to show how much more pressure you can really push into a plate or pipe
What is the best way to do multi run fillet on vertical pipe on plate etc, with the start stops on sides tieing it in, like you start overhead then vertical then back to down hand top. I need todo a 5run fillet next week just needs a thew tips. Thanks
Jody, I was looking thru your video library, and I noticed you get tons more views on videos that say "TIG Welding aluminum" and "7018" coupled with "uphill" or "vertical" or "overhead." Oftentimes for "chromoly" and "4130" (and don't forget "6g") as well. Definitely not a rule, but seems to be continual. I'd suggest sticking with that same thing you've based yourself in, the simple instruction on how to weld better, and specifically those things many people either struggle with, or think are difficult. You taught me to weld, and now that I've got a little better income, I will continue to buy everything I need, that you carry, from you. Thanks so much for all the value you put back into the community.
I did forget to turn the grind mode off a lot of times in the beginning. I now use my welding helmet with a flip chart most of the time except for tig so forgetting it today is almost impossible haha.
Yeah man you’re the best of the best man old black man taught me how to weld he said son you can talk all you want to but when the hood drops the bullshit stops
Hey Jody I’m a welder in the Army and I’m having to repair a piece of equipment in the 4F position with a slight 20-30 degree incline. I’ve welded 4F before, but I’m wondering how your position would change with the slight incline.
Can you make a video on TIG welding thin steel tubing? 14 guage in many join confrigurations? I am having trouble doing fillet welds with T joints on 14 guage mild steel. I am using Pure Argon, 3/32 lathanated tungsten, Primeweld 225x with number 7 cup and sharp point. I sometimes cant get enough puddle to tack the pieces together. Its frustrating with the thin tubing.
Hi Jody! I'm down here in South Africa. I Know this is a vid about 7018 but i have a question about 6013. In south africa 6010, 6011 and 7018 are not easy to get hold of and when you do you have to buy 50 pounds at a time and they are extremely expensive. 6013 is everywhere. I'm seeing some asian and arab guys attempting to do root and fill passes on pipe with 6013. Their videos are never clear enough to see how well this works. Is it possible to weld pipe (Root and fill passes) and get similar results as 6010. Note i'm not a professional welder just would like to try pipe welding as a challenge, but not at the expense of a 50 pound can of 6010 as that is extremely expensive here.
Hi i like your videos lurn a lot ...i ma a beginner and i have problem on my job i im welding 0.8 mm corner joint and i always burm my edges . We have skrech start mashins no pedal. please help if you can make same video about that that whil be nice ... Sorry about my english
The amperage use choose depends on the brand of rod and the thickness of the metal for a given diameter rod. That 3/8”;or 1/2” plate he is welding on soaks up the heat. @ 130A it could a problem on thinner plate overhead.
**PLEASE HELP** Can anyone give me any tips about how the steamfitters union aptitude test is? (Preferably from personal experience) mostly, what kind of math questions will be asked? THANKS IN ADVANCE! (Phila., PA)
@CO Jones :D Yeah! Yelling is a most important thing of all the situation. All I could invent for myself is cut big gap in front surface to get access to rear part of tube and weld it from the inside. And then we can fill that big gap.
Have you ever used those air fed helmets Jody? Theres talk of them becoming mandatory in the workplace now that weld fume has been established as a carcinogen
Hi Jody, I haven't done any welding for over 25 years but still like watching your videos. Best arc shots hands down, informative direct information without the need to add a street hiphop bass line.

As if today 3/21/2023 I struggle with 7018 overhead today I’m currently in trade school and I watch your videos for tips and trick to improve my welds
When one-man-band Jody still has better arc shots than the "other guys" ;-)
He always does. Master of his craft, all 8 of them lol
Even Jody's old videos have better arc shots than some current welding videos. Plus his no nonsense teaching style will get you to understand welding in no time.
Hard to belive

Thank you Jody! Always learn something new, or am refreshed on what I’ve learned or forgotten! Appreciate all that you do for the welding community! Always my “ Go to” 🙏⭐️😇
Still the best welding channel on YT. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Looks like the 4F penetration was a little better than 2F. Nice work Jody.
I have a lincoln 210mp, man I have a difficult time getting the rods to start and keep getting them stuck. Wish I could make it as smooth as alot of you guys do. This was a cool comparison.
7018 electrode required DC current if your machine Ac you got trouble with this Welding try 7016 its easy to run then 7018
Better than our schools instrional videos keep it up man helps a lot.

We got things sorted. Thank you for getting the issue resolved!

Happy to see a video from you Jody
I never doing arc weld but I see your vedios and 2 weeks ago I do very good arc welding thank you
Have you done a video for a v-groove in the overhead? I am a welding teacher and I use your videos all the time! Thanks a ton for what you do!!
He does have an older video that is good
Great channel. Love the content and the podcast as well. Getting back into welding after many years off. Keep up the content. I’ll be ordering the Tig finger. Looks like a very useful product
My daddy showed me how to do a file years ago. Works real well when cleaning pipe welds.
overhead 7018 is the boom my fav weld positions keep "E" tight
Good job Jody, thanks for the information and sharing how you do it. Fred 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Does not grinding the milscale from the front and back affect your weld i heard it from some dude and i don't remember that from weld school
Thanks a lot I've learn some techniques
Great video as always Jody
you truly are the best of the best
Finally got my ez dabber after 4 months of waiting.
Lol ya me too. Kinda expected that being FREE and all. By the time I got it, I damn near had my feed hand up to speed on 1/16" -.040" lol
@@DCweldingAndArt 👍
I’d actually forgotten about those. Doubt I’ll ever see one being in the UK

Is Fast Freeze Electrode should go first before E7018? Is it allowed to weld directly using E7018
always great Jody.......Paul in Orlando
Incredible clarity of the puddle
Do you have any thoughts on the primeweld 225 stick function? Im generally using 6011 as I work on old rusty farm equipment.
Overhead are my best looking beads other than flat. Both my overhead and flats look almost identical.
Nice
Grind mode, ha, made that mistake more than once, lol.
Thats the face i have when i have grind mode on when i weld when switching 💯 to funny
Where did you learn to make videos like this?

Happy Thanksgiving sir.
Thanks Jody
Has ardforce(dig) settings any advantage for 4f welding?
Very educative 😊
Great Video Jody
Thank you
Dude clean and inspect your welds always don’t f the next guy coming behind u 👍
Can you do a video d1.8 test??
What is mean of 4f and 2F
Very helpful!
Hi mr Jody, I was just thinking if tig welding downhill can be done? Nobody on youtube doesn’t talk abot this. What do you think ? Thank you.
Jody will that machine run 6010 just curious, thanks.
👍happy Thanksgiving Jody
How to take videos in welding plz help post one video
Thank you.
Good use for a file👍
Hell, for overhead welding you can(and probably should!) crank it up a tad...
Hi i like your videos lurn a lot ...i ma a beginner and i have problem on my job i im welding 0.8 mm corner joint and i always burm my edges . We have skrech start mashins no pedal. please help if you can make same video about that that whil be nice ... Sorry about my english
Fantastis full tutorial
Thanks
i like 125 amps on 1/8 7018 for most everything
hola jody celente video 👌 podria hacer un video en tig ac off set como funciona y sus características, agradecería mucho si subtitularan en español
Hey Jody I wanted to inform you about someone messing with your videos, are you checking these comments?
That Ck machine burns 6010 rods?
Nope, for reasons I don't fully understand inverter machines seem to hate 6010
130 sounds like alot. You weld fast. I set mine at 95-105
The amperage use choose depends on the brand of rod and the thickness of the metal for a given diameter rod. That 3/8”;or 1/2” plate he is welding on soaks up the heat. @ 130A it could a problem on thinner plate overhead.
2:33 that happens to me a lot. I m getting used to my new helmet
I found using higher current on o head to be better.
It’s always funny on the root weld you need 2 rods, then you need 1 rod for the first fill pass and then need 2 for the final pass 🤷♂️
**PLEASE HELP** Can anyone give me any tips about how the steamfitters union aptitude test is? (Preferably from personal experience) mostly, what kind of math questions will be asked? THANKS IN ADVANCE! (Phila., PA)
How to weld tubes when it near the wall and you can not just rotate it or go another side? (I mean MMA)
First you yell at the designer/engineer for not leaving enough room for fabbing, then you bend the welding rods to curve in behind the pipe.
My work issues them. They are great when you remember to charge the battery
The main reason I bought a dedicated grinding shield was because I always forget to turn off grind mode.
Same on the grind mode lol
පට්ට සෝ👍👍👍👍
Nice one handed welding I gotta use 2 hands even after 20 years 🤔
I have to use both hands and prop to get a decent stick weld in any position and sometimes it works better if I'm seated.
@@garthbutton699 same if I'm welding one handed my arc length just goes off on the trip of a lifetime
Welcome to the beanie club😏
My optrel has a light that flashes when is on Grind mode. 😁 You just can’t miss it
I have the Crystal too and still surprise myself a lot
Can I use 7018 electrode for welding the applications which use to weld 6013 electrode.
🏆🏆🏆👍🙏
