  • Chia Seeds may be deemed a superfood by many people, but there are 3 things that Chia Seeds are NOT.
NOTE: The examples in this video was meant to put across the point that Chia Seeds will not make up for whatever that is not good in a meal, they were not meant to show how Chia Seeds are typically used. Chia seeds are best taken with drinks, soups, stews and taken with lots of fluids.

CHIA Seeds - WHOLE vs GROUND - • Chia Seeds - Ground or...
As the popularity of chia seeds grows, chia seeds are increasingly found in more and more products in the supermarket. These are the 3 things that Chia Seeds are not that I often find myself having to explain and emphasize to my patients and coachees, many of whom are taking chia seeds to better control their diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and other lifestyle/diet-related chronic conditions.
As we find more and more packaged foods in the supermarkets that have Chia Seeds included in them, many people are making the mistake of being distracted by the 'Halo Effect' of 'Chia Seeds Inside' labels on food products and not looking holistically and critically enough at the inherent healthfulness, or lack of, of any food products that they buy. Regardless of how nutritious Chia Seeds are and how often one takes chia seeds, the need to learn and practise consistently eating habits to prevent and combat chronic lifestyle diseases remain something that is imperative.
Chia Seeds do have a place in our diet, but only as part of a healthy eating habit, not in place of one.
Ever since I posted this video more than 6 months ago (Oct 2020), it has received many comments from viewers, some positive and also many negative and even angry comments. I want to thank everyone who made the effort to leave comments, regardless of whether they were positive or negative. I shall take encouragement from the positive encouraging comments but at the same time, I will also not ignore or disregard the negative comments/feedback but to take such negative feedback seriously and learn from them, then use them as motivation for me to try harder to improve and make better videos moving forward. THANK YOU ALL!
My goal for this video was simply to highlight the importance of improving all aspects of our lifestyle and diet for health and to combat chronic diseases, to remind people NOT to be distracted by the 'Healthy Halo' of 'Superfoods' such as Chia Seeds when making food choices, especially when shopping for packaged foods in supermarkets, to encourage everyone to look at the full ingredients listing of all packaged foods before buying, including food products that have 'CHIA SEEDS INSIDE' labels
PS. The examples in this video was meant to put across the point that Chia Seeds will not make up for whatever that is not good in a meal, they were not meant to show how Chia Seeds are typically used.
Chia seeds are a great healthy ingredient, full of nutrients, fiber and antioxidants, that I would encourage everyone to keep handy in their pantry. I use chia seeds often in my cooking, eg. sprinkling chia seeds into my beverages, soups and stews. But this video, as the title '3 THINGS THAT CHIA SEEDS ARE NOT' suggest, was never intended for talking about l the different health benefits of chia seeds or the different ways to take chia seeds.
Thanks everyone! Have a great day!

Thanks for letting the world know that making one good choice is not good enough, despite what you say at the end about one choice at a time... perhaps if you saw superfoods as a gateway to better foods choices, rather than a platform to point out what is still wrong with someone’s diet?? You would not punish a baby for crawling just because it was the right age to walk. Yet it seems that baby steps are not seen as an opportunity for encouragement and education. Good job professionals... most will go home, dump the chia in the trash and keep eating the junk because the doctor said chia seed doesn’t work. More shame and pointing out of the obvious, about not making good food choice is sooooo what this world needs. We can see how well that is working as the world gets more and more unhealthy.
Here is an idea. When someone tells you about using a “superfood” encourage their interest in nutrition. Direct them on how to use them and where to find more information. Don’t make them feel reprimanded for not doing enough. We get it you are smart. You know it is not enough but it is one good choice! Make them excited about telling you about their next good choice. SMH...

Thank you Doctor, for your response to my comment. I am from Bangalore, India. I am not a doctor, but promote natural remedies. To add to your very sensible, practical and balanced approach, your view of the use of all health-promoting natural substances ONLY by making the necessary lifestyle changes, makes huge sense. I have come across people who have come to me with diabetic gangrene and with wounds that never heal. Although I treat the wounds, my main focus is on their diabetes. When I tell them to make the necessary lifestyle and dietary changes, there are some who are adamant and only want the remedy. Such people have literally died. Whereas those who made the changes are living normal, happy lives. Adding chia seeds or any natural health-promoting substance to poison and consuming it for health and healing, doesn't make any iota of sense.
Thank you Doctor for making this concept so clear and precise.

in my country basil is widely grown and basil seeds are easily available everywhere and cost almost 60-70% of chia as far as i know only difference in basil and chia seed is the fiber content it is more in basil and has 1-2% less omega 3 in basil seed. the fiber helps the bacteria thrive in our stomach and in return they convert them into enzymes so it might not improve the food you eat but will definitely help clean your stomach of the builtup by junk food.

I’ve only just recently started incorporating Chia seeds into my diet. I find them helpful for motility. When I add other fibre to my diet it does not seem to move things along whereas Chia seeds do. I simply soak them in water. I drink half a cup early in the day and half a cup later in the day. They have been wonderful to move things along. And I’m also excited to learn that they help with my digestive probiotics.

@monicad351 Do you not believe in natural health or is it the fact that I am addicted to fake food like 90% of all people? Manufactured foods have been around maybe 100 years and people's health has never been so out of control. If not the food causing obesity (which then causes a number of other health problems) what is causing it? Regardless of your belief in natural healing, you have to see that food alone causes 90% of all health issues. By simply not consuming manufactured foods, your health gets better. The only foods not manufactured are foods grown from the ground and do not have an ingredient list. Hence why I say raw foods as eating raw gives the body the most nutrients. The more nutrients your body gets, the healthier the person is. Any Dr. should have the common cents to know that even though none of them spend more than a couple hours during their schooling on nutrition. People eating healthy don't go to the Dr. Ever hear the saying "an apple a day keeps the Dr. away"? The medical industry makes $4.3 Trillion dollars per year! How many people would be out of a job if we all ate a healthy diet??? 🤔 Can you see why and how this would greatly affect everything if people rarely needed medical services?

Chia seeds are a great healthy ingredient, full of nutrients, fiber and antioxidants, that I would encourage everyone to keep handy in their pantry. I use chia seeds often in my cooking, eg. sprinkling chia seeds into my beverages, soups and stews. Flaxseeds is another great ingredient to add to or diet, but because of the taste of flaxseeds, I tend to use flaxseeds as a thickener or to add to stews and gravies.

The reason I eat so many chia seeds is just to make sure we get our omega-3’s as a vegan and they have those another thing you can do is add nutritional yeast your food to make sure you get your B12 find one that’s been fortified with a lot and you’ll be golden

You don't have to lean hard into chia seeds to get omega 3's. Any green leafy vegetable will have some. Plus the evidence that omega 3 supplementation for vegans is very limited (unlike B-12). There's plenty of evidence that omega 6 fatty acids aren't villains (DGLA, di homo gamma-linoleic acid is actually anti-inflammatory), and higher omega 6 to omega 3 ratio isn't necessarily associated with heart disease in vegans vs. omnivores.
Chia seeds as a whole food have been shown to be good for reducing inflammation, and are worth taking for that reason alone. Obsessing about single nutrients in food can lead us to unhealthy eating patterns.

I just started my journey with chia seeds too. I am loving it! I soaked about 4 to 5 tablespoons in unsweetened organic coconut milk then drop in some blueberries strawberries and bananas! Amazingly satisfying in the morning.

You call all that healthy? sounds like a nasty bomb of anti-nutrients to me. do your gut bacteria a favor by getting rid of it all.

      That is awesome.
I just have one question- Can we make a smoothy of Chia seeds with Dates and Figs?
I use this smoothy in my daily life as I take this smoothy after running. I hope I am doing it right?

Might want to rethink the Stevia though.

Thank you Doctor Chan for this information about chia seeds for I’m taking this everyday for how many months now. I should not rely on this only to prevent myself incur other illnesses or boost my health or immune system but rather change my eating habits & lifestyle.

Yes, whilst it is good to know more about and also make the effort to include foods that supposed to have some health benefits into one's diet, it is more important to review one's entire diet and lifestyle, identify areas that needs to be addressed or improved, then tackle them. Thanks for dropping by my channel and your comment, Cheers, Doc

Chia Seeds not a magic at all but we as individual has a control of our own eating habit. But Chia Seeds has tons of health benefits that we can get from it instead of depending on pills 🙂

That’s all most of the doctors here in the States do. Here take these pills.

whatever is true, my dog with chusing disease, was sick before getting chia with her meals twice a day. The high amount of soluble fiber in chia seeds slows down the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream, modulating insulin spikes

I'm not even a healthcare worker but I can't believe people don't know basic facts about their own body 🤣 This is so true because I gave chia seeds for my best friend to help her curb her "hunger" even after eating. But first thing she did on the seeds are to add it on her heavily sugared milktea 🤧🤦

I eat oatmeal with chia, hemp seeds and flax seeds. I also add cold pressed coconut oil, raisins, honey and cinnamon. M-F for bk. I do not eat after 6 pm until my bk. This only works when I removed alcohol from my life and added exercises 4 days a week. I feel fantastic.

Flax n flax oil is possibly lethal to me. Chia is the great alternative
