Love to see the Danchee back in the channel. My local shop sells them for 109.00 which is a steal. They really are one of the best kept secrets out there.
@Sonoran Scale Studios We did the tummy tuck mod on daughter's Ridgerock this week. It's a whole new level of capability and very simple to do. Would be great content on your channel if you decided to do it on yours!
It's your fault that I now have several thousand dollars wrapped up in crawlers to include an SCX6, Gen8, TRX6 and Capra........and it all started with the Ridgerock;-) I seriously enjoyed your Ridgerock videos and followed all of your upgrade ideas as well as adding solid steering links and a dig unit from RC4WD. I too have some large tires on my Ridgerock but I find the torque lag between front and rear axles to be a real pain in the neck when trying to climb rocks. For trail running and rock hopping, they are fine. Keep up the great work!
I'm enjoying your content. I would love to see a Ridge Rock ultimate upgrade video that shows all of the updgrades and mods you should do to the truck to make it the most capable crawler it can be! I get tired of having to search hundreds of videos to know what to change / upgrade / mod. Thanks!
I swapped to these servos today because of watching this video and man they make a night and day difference Thanks for showing us these. My danchee can now steer in major pinch points!
Good to see the Ridgerock back on the channel Jonathan! It looks really sweet with those wheels and tires and they didnt hurt performence either😉👍 nice swap of servo aswell!great video as always and thank you for sharing my friend! 🙂🇸🇪🇺🇸
Love the content, I love the way it looks! I'm not much of a content creator for RCs but I have 8 ridgerocks and my best one has only $160 into it including the car value itself. It beats my others that have $400+ into it. And it competes with my bully v2 no problem. It was very frustrating to discover this because I have over $1000 into my bully. But, I learned, despite normal crawling protocol.. with the ridgerock, some things are better not to upgrade, and instead modifying what is already there is more favorable. Being lightweight, front heavy, I would highly suggest 2.2 hyrax in the back and 1.9 Ibex in the front gives it "natural overdrive", a bit more climbing angle, and with the weight on the smaller tires, it really gets that grip to pull up without tipping. However, my budget one runs 2.2 hyrax on both atm to keep it at $160. On top of that, with smaller front tires, you need to heat and flex the clearence rods into a half moon shape in order to gain climbover clearence at the peak of the rocks comfortably, flexing this rod properly also lowers your overall center of gravity just a smidge. The back clearence rod doesn't need to be as exaggerated to a full half moon since the tires are larger in the rear, and rear clearence is rarely an issue. As for weight, wheel weights only in the front, get cheap ones. Since the front tires are a bit smaller, adding wheel weights helps "Push the car to the ground in the front", this allows you a 81 degree virticle tip angle. Upgrading the front motor is also suggested but not required by any means, the motor "works" so long as you can manage the trigger properly but if your used to comp crawling then it will surely irritate you at first. Staying away from metal has proven to be extremely valuable as it keeps the weight down, and lightweight makes this thing float! In fact, the ridgerock is one of the best budget crawlers ever, and the main difference between the ridgerock and every other budget crawler is how light it is!! Keep it light! As for the Servo. I would suggest upgrading the front servo but it's absolutely not needed. With this rodgerock, 25kg Servo works amazing and performs significantly better for cheap. However, it's not necessary and you rarely reach a point you need a 25kg (unless you're playing a no reverse competition). With 6kg, you'll need to backup from time to time but... you'll almost never break anything with a 6kg servo, even if your wheel gets pinned because it's so weak. With a 25kg well.. it'll snap the plastic eventually, granted, the ridgerock plastic is supprisingly strong and flexible. I like to crawl slow, I have no issues "gassing to turn" here and there with 6kg but servo, it's all preference. If you add metal... you'll have to get better! I love seeing all these different ridgerocks in the world. I wish I lived in a place where people crawled! Unfortunately, nobody here does, just me. Thanks for sharing!
I also removed the tyre foams to get less bounce, and did a custom sipe of the original tread pattern to get something closer to a knobby. The tires are far more pliable now, and articulate better over terrain.
I have two ridgerocks, 1 has a swapped Injora body, 2.2 tires and rims everything else is stock. The other is pretty much completely upgraded other than the axles, there definitely worth the buy and very fun
Yes I have dynamite 37T 380’s, super cheap on eBay, with dual brushed 320a esc setup, this build was definitely budget friendly, the most expensive thing I bought for it was a 2.2 moa rcp progress chassis, im still putting it back together, waiting on a few more things. The whole build for the modded one is about $350 so far including the price of the rig I won off eBay for $85 with no issues, it was barely used. The other I got was a brand new slider with axles and motors and I just pretty put the stuff I swapped from the modded to that and swapped the chassis. Runs very well
Man that’s awesome! I’m trying to work out the suspension to mount a moon buggy or rock bouncer style cage but you build sounds fantastic! Great info on the motors, did you stick with stock pinion? Appreciate the information, it surely helps everyone so thanks for taking your time to share 🙏👍
Thanks man, i hope you get your rig modified the way you want it, moon buggy idea sounds great, those are very cool builds as well. I definitely took it alittle too far lol but I’m happy with it, hope it performs well after completed. Yes I stuck with the stock pinions and I’m gonna be testing a droop suspension setup to see if I like it or not. I just wanna get used to this rig as entry level crawling and then buy a bully 2 or swap the axles on the Ridgerock to bully 2’s if I find a good deal later on.
I moved the battery down, replaced servos, took the top heavy (and slightly off scale) body off, and replaced it with a baja bug body low on the frame. Cut off the side rails to drop the body further, and added a steel bar under the front hood that doubles as support and front weight. This thing isn't going to get any further upgrades its just so cute and capable now. I even had to throw a light kit on it lol. Danchee Love is a real thing.
Got one for 25 bucks on an Amazon return store. Ecu/receiver is fried so I ordered one. Hope it fixes the problem. That center portion that everything plugs into gets really hot to the point the wires were melting. Hope the motors are not causing the issue we will see.
What size battery are you running it on? With prolonged use on 3s the esc will get really hot on these. 2s is a safer bet for longevity. Good luck with it, $25 initial investment is pretty good!
i have one with 150mm tires, stock links and 25kg front servo stock servo horn and only 15mm axle extensions and they dont rub, actually new servo is stronger but turns less than stock ine which is good when you cant trim the endpoints
The ones I used are here HOPLEX 12mm Wheel Hex Hub with 20mm Offset Extension 4Pcs Hex Drive Adaptor for 1/10 RC Crawler Axial Scx10 D90 Repairing and Upgrading a.co/d/16kUKJh Super cheap too 👍
@@SonoranScaleStudios From what i can see the foams are still too stiff even for this type of soft tire. If yoy watch for example a trx4 tire deform on the rocks, yourr are always solid. I think the main challenge for the dunchee is to find the right balance between the foams softness and tire side wall streght for the sub 2kg car. Competition 1\10 is always a lot more heavy.
Hey thanks! The only downside with the wheels to me is the shallow offset but using spacers is an easy enough fix 👍. I’m just over an hour west of Tucson, no shortage of rocks here lol
I have 2 ridge rock danchee crawlers and both front gears stripped out are the front and back gears the same or different and can you get metals one for it
Hi and thanks, i just got one yesterday ! i wsnted to ask you if you had some issues when new about the tires hitting the links when turning , thanks !
Hi sorry I missed this until now. Yes it did have some rub on full steering lock when stock. Once switched to the high clearance Everest 10 links the issue was taken care of. Or add some hub extensions to widen it just a bit. Hope you got it sorted 👍
Hello and Happy Holidays, I was wondering if you can get a monster truck wide tire and sizes for crawlers? I just got my first crawler, and it is danchee Rockbridge😢 If you know what would be the biggest battery I can get? Thank you.
finally ordered a cheap 313mm axle kit for axyal that should fit danchee. comes with 2 132mm (stock size) and 2 140mm tha i will use on the rear or bend it slightly to make 132mm from hole to hole. fingers crossed
I just ordered a RR...i want/love to upgrade my rigs...where did you get the lower links from?....and im assuming you used 20mm hub extensions from your wheels??
Do you have any upgrades for the rear outdrive cups within the c-hub? The dogbone ends are slowly chewing mine up and I can't find any upgrades. Stock outdrive cups are hard to find even.
It’s referred to as cog stall. Pretty much a given with a dual motor on axle setup. Each axle is independently powered vs a transfer case on a single motor setup which distributes the power evenly. It’s just a standard part of this style crawler
@SonoranScaleStudios thanks for the information, we are new to this and I'm potentially looking at this crawler for our 2nd purchase 😀 Seems to perform pretty good 👍 from what i know 😅 which ain't much .. Thanks again
If using the 180 degree version of the servo the endpoints are spot on to the factory stock servos. If you get the 270 version check out redcats website for endpoint adjustment using the stock FS transmitter. A great upgrade on this truck
Oh I’m sure that you could if you chose. The issue I see is the steering components…….everything on this rig is plastic…..45kg would only snap the weakest link easier
Lol the things kids lose and where we end up finding them later can be baffling! Yes I would buy a factory transmitter. The bind process is super simple to connect to the receiver. If you don’t have the original bind plug you can Google how to make a bind plug jumper or just ask Redcat to include one with the new transmitter. If you’re going factory I would suggest simply calling Redcat directly and talking to customer service to place the order. They have great customer support and if you explain the situation I’m confident they can provide links to a “how-to” on the bind process. Best of luck!
You can buy replacement links for the Everest 10 on the Redcat website, they are what I used. high clearance links that fit perfectly. If I remember correctly I used the original danchee pivot balls in the Everest 10 links.
Most definitely, however we’ve been filming again and will be starting back to regular new content soon. Will be adding segments with more full size trails and crawling as well. Lots to catch up on!
Yeah it can be frustrating for sure and definitely it’s weakest point. With 3s it’s better, I’m hoping for more improvement with better motors and an esc upgrade
Stange that from my experience is not a problem...I dont use mine for hardcore rock crawling, just park trailing, holes, big branches, steep ramps and big smooth granite rocks. Sometimes the rear stalls but only for a second and appying a little bit more throttle releases the rear.
I did the wheel/tire/servo mod you listed above, and now it stalls out badly. Like every time. That's a bummer for sure. What needs to done now so I didn't waste these funds?

You need to try to get some deep woods tires they are 1.9 and offer a lot of grip.
Is the steering servos waterproof?
I’ve done all this and also hobbywing fusion motors.

I put 2.2 rims 1.9 tires and a big 2s battery on my RR .Epic. Just buy one they rock
