I like that you focused on the drums in Tyler's production. They are my favorite aspect of his production on Chromokopia & these tips are really helpful!
I don't care what ANYONE says, just production wise, sticky is an orchestra masterpiece with how the different elemets slowly come in and build up one another.
I absolutely love the production on it… It’s one of his most chaotic arrangements yet and I’m glad he used real instruments cause it elevates the marching band feel so much more.
I appreciate artists like Tyler these days (on a production level) because it shows you can be yourself and still make it. You dont have to be a face in the crowd.
@@ZonymaUnltd. i payed attention and i never heard anything new im not trying to bea contrarian whatever thats supposed to mean wtf is new about using an old sample from an old song and layering a beat thats heavily reverbed and needs a bit of snap , nothing buddy and by the way the music was garbage i only checked it out because of the fabulous title
the crazy part is that rah tah tah trap arrangement actually GOES. its the synth melody that gives it the mostly energy. The thing about the drums on the actual song is if tyler put something super melodic on it it would still work but as a completely diff. song
When you get to a creative point where you are uninhibited by comparisons to others and the fear of sounding silly, you don't have to think about the decisions this much. Tyler just did this shit without thinking this deeply about it, I promise you. That's because he doesn't give a shit about what anyone else thinks and knows what he wants, which has nothing to do with what anyone else wants. That is what artists should be aspiring to. Not coming up with insane production ideas that somehow work, but getting to a point of being completely uninhibited by your own mind so you are free to actually create rather than regurgitate and overthink. That is when the real insane ideas come easily, and before you know it you're watching someone break down your choices as genius when you just did it without even thinking about it like that.
I used to mess around with BPM when I made beats on MTV's Music Generator on my PS2. It always amazed me how much the BPM changed the entire mood of my song. Sometimes even the music genre would change! I made indie rock, Hip-Hop and techno songs, and often times they'd become interchangeable with just a BPM shift. Fun times!
Was waiting for this, really good breakdown of some the production techniques on this album, Tyler continues to be one of the most inspiring producers in Hip Hop.
Too good, why so short, I thought we are going to have a over explained 1hour video 😭😭😭,,, now you must make a Armand Hammer video explaining the crazy sounds,,,well done 🙏🙏🙏
the drum processing on take your mask off instead got me even amazed at the late great j dilla, like how did he even do stuff like that back then. i notice sometimes he didn't add another drum on top of the sample but it sounded so thick and full when it hits without messing the whole sample. what a legend man. rest in beats, the goat
great video!! something i noticed which has always really stuck with me with tyler's production is his controlled distortion/emphasis on bass in some parts. in MANIFESTO from CMIYGL, when Domo Genesis says "cover me i'm going in" 44 secs in, there's an extremely effective distortion yet it stays so clean. or in the second half of "I killed you" from CHROMAKOPIA, that bass hit which comes every 4 bars just makes the song so groovy (1min29 onwards). i have always wondered about how he achieves this punch in his drums? because they have this tamed distortion which clips so perfectly it intrigues me
I was really hoping to see a breakdown on sticky as the we will rock you feeling was really cool with the stomping and the sick horns. Great vid though
The bass, drums & quite literally every element of the instrumental for both I Killed You and Thought I Was Dead are mind boggling to me. Taking notes!
You're right about how he pitches his sounds. The iconic synth from Igor's Theme is an E flat note but its detuned by -48cents, which basically half a semitone.
@@jjbing3 I'm not sure but maybe demo-version could export projects as MIDI (so it could be the way of saving my work). Anyway i didn't knew about this feature those days.
Hey Navie D, I wanted to say that I really appreciate your content and that you should keep going strong. This stuff is so interesting for people that love the art of music and music production.
this song felt very "Pharrell" and i have to imagine the amount of influence he's had on his producing. especially on the track I THINK on IGOR. with that, we need the tyler kendrick collab like ASAP
Top tier content, i swear no one explains production as well as you do🤝 On a different note, where do you find the specific sounds that are used in songs? For example, the “klik klak” hi-hats at 2:35.
hey yo. I was wondering .no .i am interrested how you process would be in chopping and skrewing a beat or just making one from scratch. I have not seen any one make videos like that in year since . Mike jone or paul wall.music.
4:53 I've been doing exactly that with the bass. Extracting it from soul/jazz samples and adding back with effects. It's hard to add your own bass without a lot of gymnastics since many of the songs back then weren't even tuned to 440
side note YOU COULD save with cracked Fruity Loops (FL), what tyler meant was he had a demo version.. which you can not save in (i had a crack & demo and thats the difference)
Tyler makes what he wants and his status is what makes ppl go crazy for his music. Ppl always glaze. Just make what you want and get hyped for your work.
Could you make a tutorial on how to achieve this "different" stype of "neo boom bap" i.e. section 80? I know you already done an analysis on this album (section 80), but could you make a more detailed tutorial?
You can tell Tyler’s favorite part of beat making is the drums by how punchy they sound and different types of percussion he uses. CMIYGL to me felt like he was going more towards that sample feel like “hot winds Blow” that sample felt like alchemist could’ve flipped it.
It analyses a sample, and depending on how you set the thresholds, it will visually give you the musical notes being used, so that you can highlight the parts you're interested in and grab them as midi... (for example.)
Apologies for my lop-sided neckhole. I dunno why it does that.
Anyways, check out my plugin if you like sampling: www.notegrabber.com/
I can relate to the disobedient neck hole! All good tho just own it with a cool nonchalance 😎
Did not even notice until you mentioned
If you have cracked FL you can save beats, he had the demo 😂
lmao that's what i was thinking
Maybe what he means is the free trial version of Fruity Loops as in the free trial you can't save the project's file.
He had a cracked demo 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah I thought that’s what he meant too lol

Too bad Doom or Dilla didn't live long enough to experiment with stem splitting. They would have wreaked havoc with the production techniques.
Doom had access to Serato I believe
Nujabes too
