@manhamnight oldheads like him call all modern rap mumble auto tune, because they think every rapper is Lil Pump 🤦♂️ there's so many different subgenres of rap and they all sound different.
If you look at song arrangements in the lense of "rock" music or "EDM" music, then doing abrupt switches becomes easier to pull off. Have it sound like a HipHop song obviously, but structure like its in another genre then it really helps as well
While it’s good to learn basic beat making rules to keep structure, know when it’s a good time to break it. I saw a clip of Chadwick Boseman’s James Brown movie where his band isn’t too sure if his song works musically. He simply states something like “if it sounds good and feels good, then it’s good.” Might be misquoting, but even back then people knew when to break the norm.
@@endgangwars That's true, I meant more from Navie's POV he's playing the algorithm game by picking a snappy title lol, I agree with what you said for sure

Navie, I think one of the best transitions on beats are the ones in Estilo Libre by Residente. It changes the beat like every 30 seconds, without missing the flow and the rhythm of the song, I think it’s worth a video. Greetings!
JPEGMAFIA is so creative, he doesnt rely on a quantization and its off-putting at first but it hits so good. Randomly cutting off guitars as the beat drops or transitioning from a really hard, high energy beat to something mellow is what I think people find him so appealing especially his ability to sound cohesive and flow on these beats
2:22 - He's switching tracks like a DJ would, especially in the hip hop world were speed of transition is far faster than in dance music. The longer 1+ minute switch ups are by producers that have never been DJs is my best guess.

Kind of a bad example of a JPEG bestswitch. "Its dark and hell is hot" doe's have a beatswitch, the beat itself is just dynamic. Most instrumentals in classical and jazz arent based on loops, the song changes as it continues but is still very much the same. Because songs are all based on loops now, if anyone hears the instrumental change at all its considered a "beatswitch" even if its just a drum pattern change or a new chord progression. Beat switches occur when the instrumental is changed completely to alter the mood or structure of a song. "Nights" by Frank Ocean and "SICKO MODE" are examples, whereas JPEG songs like "Steppa Pig" have no switches, the melody just changes several times but it's still the very same beat
"modular synth" is a highly specific statement regarding gear, and we have zero information indicating that any of these sounds were created on a modular synth.
Basically drum and bass/dubstep techniques haha #1 is used for quick mix when djing can be used in any genre. #2 is any dnb with vocals #3 early dubstep used lot of cinematic vocal samples.
I don't really agree as every point here can be applied to 6ix (logic producer) and brockhampton. I do think there's a unique sound in jpegmafia's production but I think it has more to do with his comfort with frantic rhythms and melting genres than the points made here tbh.
