It’s quite obvious she hasn’t done that here.

Real journalist don’t insert their personal opinions or their political preferences in their work. That is journalism 101.
Katie Couric not only does that but she has taken it to a very disgraceful level.
Her political rhetoric and absurd arm chair diagnosis as she offends have the country with absolutely no investigation, facts, or skill, has show. She’s lost her way.
As we can see her lack of research proves it.
Or is it her lack of caring what’s made it so evident.
Not for others but for her self and what she has become and what she no longer is.

Years ago, one woman I worked with refused to either mentor or lend a hand to younger women in the office. I asked why? She said she worked too hard, practically clawing her way to the top to turn around and give a “free ride” to any of the younger women. Geez, she was a tyrant! I always looked out for others, shared ideas, taught new concepts, and helped point them rise in the company. Then, the Great Recession came. I discovered I was now a victim of ‘age-ism’ during the interview process, most often perpetrated by women interviewers who were 20 years my junior! I found a great position, was interviewed and hired by a male cardio thoracic surgeon, and was then treated like s#!t by two women Directors and one woman Supervisor - all because the ‘man’ had hired me, when their choice was someone 25 years younger than me. They monitored my email communications with clients, listened to my calls, were critical of everything I did - even though I had a past history of scientific research and writing and ran my own business for 10 years.
They placed every single ‘difficult’ medical device engineer and surgeon they couldn’t seem to control on my client list (we were a pre-clinical medical device testing facility). I turned around every single dissatisfied, angry client and made the company an INCREDIBLE amount of money. I retained these clients and gained new clients by word-of-mouth, and they brought venture capital money with them. A year passed before one of the Directors apologized for treating me so disrespectfully, as my clients continually praised my skills, telling her the company couldn’t possibly be paying me enough for my abilities. The other two? I think they felt threatened. A couple years in, I decided I couldn’t continue working with these pit vipers anymore. The very day before I was going to turn in my resignation, I was called into an office and laid off! I received a good severance package, and when I had the package in my hands, they smugly remarked that I was taking it rather calmly (no tears, no screaming). When I explained my resignation letter was sitting on my computer, ready to be printed later that day (their mouths dropped in shock, then the angry ‘how dare you’ accusations set in. BTW - the IT guy confirmed seeing the letter earlier that morning before my arrival, but didn’t think it was worth mentioning to these women. I calmly told them that they should spend more time mentoring, teaching, and uplifting women coworkers, rather than tearing them apart. My replacement was a young man they thought they could control. Nope, he quit. The company failed within 3 years. I went on to bigger and better things.

@@probablynot1368 Yes! So happy for you, so many are thoughtless and truly nasty as they forget you get what you give ... you just never know when. I am a retired legal assistant, and as one of the senior staff it was insane to watch how truly horrible and eager the younger generations were that came through. They disliked each other, but would somehow form a gaggle of ignorant twits, at each other and always trying to take over if one of us were away ... lolol. Yet, none of us were rude or dismissive to any of them, we truly tried to help, mentor, and give good advice, after which they would again try to convince whichever partner that they were better. We were lucky in that since we each worked for our respective partners (law firm) for quite awhile, we were always aware what they were trying. So many never figured out it was counterproductive at least in our firm, as it caused distrust in them even by the lawyers and eventually would be let go. I don't even want to imagine how it is now. ✌
Women hate me in the work place. But men respond to me differently. I’m too straightforward and I act more like a man, so women get offended by me. I also don’t understand the drama and emotions that women often have, and women get upset when I don’t understand that.
You are a class act. If someone told a lie about my father I don't think I would be able to respond as eloquently as you.

Ashleigh B is so spot on. I’ve worked in business my entire career and I’ve worked with many Katie’s who saw me as a threat as well and denied me mentorship. In turn, I mentor the heck out of women who will take my spot and have! We’ve got decades to go to get women to support and uplift and mentor other women. In a world of Katie’s….be an Ashleigh 💙. I feel like she complimented you actually. She calls you cuter and said she was afraid to mentor you because she thought that would be self sabotage meaning that if she helped encourage you to be as good that she would probably lose her job because you're then as good and better eye candy. She didn't come after your father either. She probably really did hear he was saying that. He is a proud father so he probably was boasting and saying things like that. Mine probably would too. I wish she wouldn't have let that thought process stop her from helping another women but atleast she is admitting to it. I think we are making a mountain out of a molehill here. It's hard not to think this is a mean thing to do to Katie. The whole "taking the high road" and making sure to compliment Katie. The giant space at the top was not there back in the day. Young women today don''t understand that. Women had to compete in every area of life, every area. Good for you for taking the high road. I have lost some respect for Katie with this gossipy book. What contribution will it make but make others feel uncomfortable and sell a few copies to people who like that sort of thing. Katie has a lot of things in her career she could have shared it is kind of surprising she wrote a book like this.

Ashleigh, it astounds me that a relatively mature person could not overcome and recognize the seemingly self-inflicted jealous (and immature) feelings experienced decades ago; who must tear others down on their own climb up the ladder; who doesn't realize - or care - that their publicly expressed words in a book make them, as well as those whom they offend, look less-than. The power that bragging-rights bring just aren't enough for some. We've since come to know that morning show employed some very unfavorable people; and it had deeply wounded others without a care of human decency. I have much respect for your character .. because as you were being torn down by someone, you didn't bite back, but rather gave the credit due them and the genuine respect for their work and their accomplishments. You are an honest, sincere and classy human being, and I applaud you for standing up for your reputation and for those of your family members who were being tarnished, as well.

Just realize that Katie was a different time when women were taught they had to “watch their back” when we were told to be competitive because that’s how men were. This isn’t her fault, it was the environment. Thankfully today we know that we have more power by using our inherent nurturing nature to help one another. You are (as am I) very fortunate to be in the next generation of professional women who don’t have to live & work with that constant anxiety, jealousy or insecurity those women had to - we are blessed because of the hard lessons they endured. We don’t have to “take the high road” when we already live on it.
I definitely believe this. This mentality still exists. But it was more ruthless back then. We need to all learn to collaborate more.

When you were on HLN, I watched your show "faithfully"!!
Then when HLN started cutting down on their regular shows and just putting on 'Forensic Files", I was very disappointed. At that time I was not good at all on using the Internet. When I got more familiar with it, I googled your name, and it showed you and your hubby on a boat, and something about you just relaxing and enjoying life. I was so sad that you had retired (so I thought). The years went by and I got better at using the Internet, and then RUclips, and to my absolute delight, I found "You"!!
Oh happy days!!! You are my most loved journalist 'Ashleigh", second only to "Barbara Walters"!! You're passionate, you're genuine, and so relateable!!! And about Catie Couric, I will just say that I'm absolutely "disappointed" in what she had to say about "you AND your "father"!!! I have to wonder what her goal was to make up such a story. She obviously knew your father's situation, AND she had to know the phone number she called was to a "nursing home"!!! So utterly "disrespectful" and "cunning"! With "all" her life experiences, the places she's been to, and all the interesting people she's met in her long career...she chooses to "snub" her colleagues, not to mention her "ex", as a topic in her book?? I hate that I've lost respect for someone "I've" always admired!!!

I believe what she said about you is an amazing compliment. If I'm not mistaken she said, that she was TOLD that your father was telling people those stories and also you would replace her. I myself have worked at job where my work was top notch and second to no one to only find out that the boss was grooming a young woman my daughters age to replace me. Happens all the time. I also refused to help her. I instead found another job. Love it and once again, I am on top. By the way, that young woman quit her job and moved on too. I feel it served my boss right. Lol
