      @@JAM661SMDH. K would suggest that you do a lil more research on this case. Lacey's disability progressed quickly which lead her to become completely dependent on her parents. If they knew they didn't want to care for her, they couldve easily signed her into a facility that wouldve cared for her. Ive worked in healthcare for almost 3 decades and am experienced with caring for people like Lacey . I have been and currently am still a private caregiver. I cant even begin to imagine the kind of pain that poor young lady endured. 😩😳Do u honestly think that a 36 yr old adult in their right mind would voluntarily lay for YEARS in their own urine & feces and allow themselves to literally ROT to the point where their skin falls off of their bones with maggots crawling in their hair and in their body?? U think she intentionally laid there stuck to a leather couch starving herself for YEARS?? If you haven't seen the pictures, id recommend that you do. Maybe its just me because of the kind of work i do, but i just cant understand for the life of me how any HUMAN BEING......especially a parent could just simply carry on and live their day to day lives as if they dont see and SMELL their only child as she lay their contracted and intertwined into a hole in a couch. There was a pair of agoraphobic & depressed siblings in the UK years ago who refused to leave their rooms for 10 years , who ended up unable to walk for that reason. Their parents had been too ashamed to get help , but finally cracked.

    This almost happened to my intellectually disabled sister. Our mother left her completely alone and didnt put her in a day program. She could make her own meals and take showers but started to have major mental health issues from not being interacted with. She developed schizoid symptoms/a delusional world she created for herself based on her favorite TV shows. The 2nd year she was angry, depressed and resistant and started having full blown scary hallucinations. By the third year she refused to take showers and would only lay in forward position in her bed, wouldnt eat or wear clothes and deficated on herself. My grade school aged siblings were trying to care for her, but you would have to drag her out of bed. She was going to die if something didnt happen. This whole progression is what happens to humans when they are severely isolated.
    Our mother asked me to take over her care and put my sister alone on a plane with her flight attendant friend to come live with me. She stood on the seat and screamed the entire 4 hour flight. It was not easy getting her to wear clothes and eat again. The biggest thing that helped was day program and just having someone there who loves her to talk to her. She has permanent schizophrenia that she takes antipsychotics for. My guess is that something similar happened to Lacey, but she didnt have anyone to rescue her. When I tried to research services like day programs in Louisianna, I couldnt find any. Its not an excuse for what her parents did, but Im sure it played a role.
    What happened to Lacey isnt an isolated event. There is widespread abuse and neglect of people with intellectual disabilities across the nation. Even here in California where services are mandated I cant find any services for my sister. Even though Im sick, having medical emergencies and struggling to care for her alone the Regional Center is refusing to place her. Services for people with disabilities have significantly decreased and disappeared altogether. My sister suffered similar neglect in CA group homes as well as a massive brain injury no one told me about or took her to a doctor for. Now she cant talk or take care of herself at all. I can think of 3 people like Lacey who were neglected to death by California vendors and can tell you it happens all the time. Many parents are aging, sick and dying with no services or solutions for their adult children with disabilities. The news doesnt report on this huge humanitarian crisis, so no one is talking about it.

      @@lizacampbell2183 my sister is currently not in a day program but we have a routine. I am very aware of her need for social interaction, so I try to make sure I talk to her a lot, but it is very hard to be her everything, especially with my health issues. I worked with many kids on the spectrum and know interacting is hard for them, which puts them even more at risk for social isolation. Sometimes it seems like they dont want to connect but they do want connection and need it just the same as anyone. People with ASD usually need very predictable routines. A day program would be great. Just make sure to talk to her, give her hugs and check in throughout the day. No one can be completely on their own.
      I'm guessing Lacy had her own space and her parents didnt interact with her at all and completely forgot about her. They never called emergency services and went on a 2 day trip when she was on the verge death, so Im sure you would never do that to your child.

      Thank you for shedding light on the lack of services for people who have medical issues. If only something had been available for this girl. 😢 Even when services are out there, waiting lists can be very long. I have a senior relative under the care of another relative. The care giver relative now has huge health issues too. I do not have caregiver rights which is upsetting because I have long advocated for those with health or ability problems. Senior centers are not great there so… it’s scary. Every person near the relative is doing everything in their power and within constraints of the law but the person can still function on his own so…. ( maybe not as I would like but within the law) so we are trying to support the ones shouldering the caregiving in the family. At this point two relatives are moved to live within shouting distance and eye view but none are without their own problems. I fear for the younger ones giving their health up because our system is failing them all. I have a young friend who is going into this type of work of caregiving/nursing but we need many, many more. As our population ages, it’s getting harder. For those younger with issues, I don’t know what to do except encourage people to reach out to neighbors, senior centers, or any program you can to offer to help. Cook meals, be a friend, help with chores, a break or day out, run errands or anything at all you can do! Just being there! Know your neighbors. Care. Love! Help others. If people do not answer the door, how about leaving a kind note? Simple things can make a huge difference. It can bring a senior out to just talk a minute. A daily chat with a friendly face. A two minute chat. Are you okay today? Look, the sun is out. A flower bloomed in your yard. Pretty huh? Love works wonders. Thank you for your post. Sending you ❤ and giant hugs! 🌺🌸🌼🥀🌺🌸🌼🌻🌈🌻🌼🌸🌺🥀🌻🌷I hope you can find some help. Is there Respite service near you? Blessings to you for being strong enough to take this on. Sending hope as well. Lots of hope.

      @@jcook2433 actually, if you look at the US Bureau of Labor, the number one biggest area of job growth is in health & human services, particularly caregiving. The govt knows full well about this issue but are silent about it, except to brag about "job growth." That job growth is a direct result of the humanitarian crisis happening with people with disabilities due in large part to an aging population. At the same time women, who are most likely to be caregivers, are dying from treatable diseases and medical gaslighting. In fact 40-60% of the homeless crisis is people with disabilities who are dying in the streets. The US has a huge humanitarian crisis happening with people with disabilities, not just people who are born disabled and aging but young people dying from a lack of adequate healthcare after going broke, disabled and homeless trying to get healthcare, which is the trajectory I am currently on.
      All these issues are related and complicated by rising cost of housing from a housing shortage combined with a minimum wage that has not increased since 2009. So while the govt is fully aware of all of these issues and tries to make the growing need for caregivers sound like a good thing, no one can afford to do this extremely difficult work for the minimum wage public and private programs want to pay. As a Democrat, to say I am frustrated with my party is an understatement. They know the problems. They just dont want to pay for it. Theyd rather transfer all the federal tax funds over to weapons manufacturers for foreign wars.
      We need some good people in govt, because right now, only a very small handful of them care about people with disabilities at all and no one is talking about it. The only way this changes is with public outrage and media coverage, but the corporate media would rather talk about "job growth" than the full blown humanitarian crisis thats driving it.

    Honestly I still believe what happened was that they gave her a traumatic brain injury somehow or she wasn't ALLOWED to leave the couch until eventually she had lost the ability to stand up due to malnourishment and infections, etc. (They had claimed she had "decided" to stay on the couch, but even if she had, interventions would have been possible. It's very hard to stay in one place like that willingly if you are able bodied with normal urges.) And so they didn't want to get her any kind of help that whole time that she lived on the couch because the facts about whatever it is they did to her might be revealed in the process. They didn't want to take her to a hospital or have in-home care for her because questions would be asked about why she was in a state unable to move freely or why she was starving. And they starved her to make sure she would die before anyone found out what they had already done to her before that. And then once she died from infections and starvation, they decided it might still be too suspicious or difficult to get rid of the body without reporting in some kind of way. Either that, or she was a victim of untreated early onset dementia or something similar before all this happened. She was older than most children are when they develop that, but it's not outside of possibility that that's what happened to leave her in such a vulnerable state at the mercy of her parents. (Supposedly she had been functional before a change took place.) Like many others, I feel indescribable disgust and misery when I think about the horrific suffering that Lacey endured, and the mystery around why and how exactly this happened will probably haunt me until all of the facts have come to light, if they ever actually do. I want it to be more innocent or unintentional somehow than the aforementioned, but I can't see how it could be. The smell alone would have meant they'd have to leave her completely alone in that house the vast majority of the time in order for it to go on like that, so I believe that's what they did.

    -If you don’t want to have kids because you don’t like them, why not just prevent pregnancy?
    -If you don’t want to be in a relationship anymore, why just split instead of killing them off?
    All hypotheticals here. It has to do with a mix of sadism, narcissism, and greed. Once Lacey had become locked-in, they could have done the more decent thing and sent her to live someplace. It still would have made them look like bad parents, but the criticism would have been much more divided.
    I think the reasoning for their actions was much more sinister-ableism. They used generalized beliefs about neurological issues to justify what they did. They didn’t stop to even think of their child as a human being with a personality. And we come full circle-Lacey could have ended up in better circumstances away from them through the lesser evil of being placed in a home.

Maybe they were just immune to the smell but I highly doubt that. The coroner said it was so bad that police officers were puking in the yard. These people went to church and no one smelled that on them? What if other people were aware of this but never went to the police!? No one ever went to the front door and smelled it or saw Lacey? Unbelievable

    I have a ton of questions. What about family members? I mean no one inquired about Lacey's whereabouts? She obviously wasn't receiving medical and mental health care. This should be easy to prove. So many parents abuse their kids under the guise of pulling them out due to "homeschool".

    • @QueenAvacado
      @QueenAvacado 8 месяцев назад +1

      Not sure if her parents even had close family. Lacey was an only child and it baffles me how NOBODY asked about her or checked on her. No doctors calls no dentist calls NOTHING. It’s insane and the fact that no one smelled that stench for 12 years is hard to believe.

    • @sandpiperr
      @sandpiperr 7 месяцев назад

      @1987 The thing is that people did ask about her, but she kind of just slipped through the cracks.
      She was an only child and we haven't heard about any other family members, so it seems it was just the family of 3.
      Her parents took her out of school at 16 and stopped letting her have friends over, so she hadn't really spoken to former classmates in a long time.
      The neighbors did notice she stopped being seen around the neighborhood in her early 20s, but they assumed she simply moved away to start her own life. Which would make sense considering the age she was at. One neighbor said that a few years ago he did, in passing, ask her father what Lacey was up to these days and was expecting to be told that she was working somewhere and maybe as married and had a family of her own. He said that the father said "Oh no, she still lives with us" but wouldn't elaborate further. Which is a little weird, but, you have to be realistic. Hearing that someone's grown child still lives with them is a big leap to "I bet she's trapped on the couch and being starved!"
      As for doctors or dentists reaching out...maybe they did, but how often have you gotten a postcard or email that "it's time for your appointment!" from a dentist you haven't been to in years? Did any of them ever call the cops when you didn't make the appointment? No, because, people switch doctors all the time. They move, they switch jobs, their insurances changes and that provider is no longer in network, and so they don't come back. About the only doctor I'd hold responsible is the one that parents went to in the early 2010s and told that Lacey wouldn't get off the couch. He actually had reason to believe that something was wrong, since he'd been told something was wrong, so if anyone should have suspected it might be more than just she's choosing not to make an appointment because she moved away, or has another doctor, etc.

    I hear the loudest part is the couch springs and his heavy breathing. I don't hear any pause in the compressions for the obligatory two breaths. Chest compressions alone will not save anyone's life and life is incompatible with only assisted breathing, you absolutely need both to survive!

    • @itchysheets1222
      @itchysheets1222 8 месяцев назад +8

      I could be wrong-it may have changed back to compressions and two breaths, but for a time they were training regular people to just do compressions and no breaths. I don’t know what in the world their reasoning for that was. By regular people I mean regular civilians, people who are not first responders or medical personnel.

    • @pmc2999
      @pmc2999 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@itchysheets1222actually the reason was that most people don't have some kind of oral barrier and so they aren't willing to do CPR. So they went to teaching just chest compressions which people generally would do. The lungs actually have enough oxygen so that just compressions will still help for about a minute or two. And it's still a stop gap because 9 times out of ten you need the defibulatar and you need it fast.

    • @sandpiperr
      @sandpiperr 7 месяцев назад

      Okay well the part about compressions alone not saving a life is NOT true.
      They taught the exactly opposite in Red Cross CPR class, that if all you can do is compresions and tilt the head, that is enough.
      However, they weren't even doing compressions. They were faking it.

    Parents need to understand that you arent a good parent by virtue of being one. Far too many parents today think you know all things and you know better than those without kids because you simply are a parent. No, you learn to be a good parent. Its not handed to you on a silver platter. You make choices to be a good parent. Her parents clearly did not choose to be good parents.

      I feel the exact same way. Not having children, every time I hear something like this, I question why people even have children, and think about why I haven't. I wonder why anyone would even bring a child into this world of evil. Sometimes, it seems to me, to be a selfish act. I will never stop thinking about this. I want to throw up, not for the gruesome details, but because of the evil.

    The doctor is correct. I have seen those wounds before as I have treated nursing home patients for physical therapy. Its usually neglect and not re positioning patients every 2 hours in which constant pressure cuts off blood flow to the tissue and it dies. As a result you get bed sores or ulcers. It can be prevented by getting patients up and turning them frequently in bed to restore blood flow. I have seen wounds down to the sacrum and coccyx and done debridement. Skin gone and I can stick my finger and not only see the bone but touch it. It takes forever to heal those wounds too. The never moved this poor girl. Hence why she was full of bed sores. Couple that with not feeding her for nutrition well no way for those wounds to heal. Plus sitting in feces and urine also does nothing to allow it to heal and wound is compromised. Such an awful situation.
