    I also had amazing results from ECT’s. They saved my life. My experiences were very similar to yours. I want to thank you for your bravery in sharing your story! (And I hate the beach ball smelling mask haha!)

    I'm glad for you. I had clinical depression but fortunately meds worked for me.
    My mother had ECT numerous times when I was growing up and it was very sad when she didn't initially remember major things about her own children. But as you said eventually those memories returned and overall it helped her.
    This was at the time when not many effective meds for depression were available, so ECT was more commonly done- and not as well controlled as it is today.

    I lost 40 years of memories after doing ECT. I've been diagnosed with major neuro cognitive disorder. Am on an Alheimers med (I'm 44). I have vision issues, executive functiong issues, short tem and working memory issues. On top of the retrograde amnesia. I have spent years in speech therapy. All of my doctors and therapists have patients who did ECT and also have serious cognitive impairment. Oh and I almost died when I had a cardiac event. It didn’t help my mental health issues. There is a huge risk involved.

      Absolutely, like any procedure, general anesthesia alone is a huge risk, let alone the actual procedure itself! I'm so so sorry to hear that your experience wasn't helpful like it is to myself (and statistically speaking, many others as well). I'm wishing you healing, comfort, and increased health

    Your backstory re early onset of depression, multiple med trials and multiple hospitalizations is one I relate to. I was in a Ketamine trial which was not effective for me. I'm now scheduled for ECT and understandably anxious. Watching your video was *enormously* helpful. Thank you!

    Can ECT help with hypersomnia aka excessive sleeping? That’s a major component of my depression. Although I suffered with it long before my depression started it’s gotten way worse now I’m depressed. Some days I can’t even get out of bed I’m so sleepy.

    I'm so delighted to see you're doing much better, I hope your good memories will come back but nothing wrong with enjoying the moment❤I'd love to research why this works (for some people and not for others). There's so much more to learn about the brain.
    For Q&A: do you have any tattoos related to mental health/recovery/ECT or are you planning on getting one? :-) much love xoxo

    I spoke to a ECT doctor this morning about potentially starting in the next two weeks and I'm scared about the potential memory effects. Ketamine and a bunch of meds didn't do it for me, so I'm paranoid I'm going to be the one something bad happens to. He said people with my medical/psych history tend to respond really well, but yeah, still scared lol

    • @enoughblush
      @enoughblush  8 месяцев назад +1

      I was in such a similar position and it saved my life! I didn't think it would work, and i'm so glad it proved me wrong. However, regardless of whether it works, i'm so hopeful for the future - there are ALWAYS going to be new, better, and improved treatments for mental health. I promise it will get better, regardless of whether ECT works. It might take a little longer, but as someone who stuck around, I guarantee that it's worth it.

    How hard is it to get this treatment done if you want it done or is it still up to the psychiatrist? It seems like you have to have either attempted suicide or have catatonia just to be able to get this treatment. I understand the requirements for the physical exam and EKG because people with known heart problems will not be allowed to get this treatment. The part I don't get is why they want to put you on 2 different medications first before trying this. I understand it could be because of the risks like the memory loss...etc but I feel like if you agree and sign a paper then you should be allowed to get this treatment. Some people are so depressed they can't wait to try more meds to see if they work and would rather give this a try. I feel like we know how our mind works better than a psychiatrist. It's hard because you don't want to tell someone who went to school that they may know alot but we know more about what goes on in our minds like how something makes us feel and also what we are experiencing with the depression whether it's the intrusive thoughts...etc.

      It really depends on your state / country! I'm in California, and this was my experience. I totally recognize your frustration - the feeling of being so incredibly depressed and just needing to feel better is horrific. I will say that as a person who's experienced lots of treatments / taken tons of meds over the past 12 years, I do agree with ECT's use as a last resort treatment, simply due to its intensity and side effects. The steps that I have to take in california (meeting two different psychiatrists monthly for capacity, signing lots of papers, etc) are in place as a way to try to make sure that the person receiving treatment is well informed of the risks / not being pressured or forced into treatment. Have you talked to a psychiatrist about ECT yet? Either way, I'm so sorry you've been feeling so depressed, I really am rooting for you to feel better

    • @anonymous-zp9ze
      @anonymous-zp9ze 7 месяцев назад

      Yes I have talked to a psychiatrist about it. She is having someone work on finding out about the insurance like which places I could go to. I told her that I want inpatient ECT treatment. She put me on some medications for the time being and I am having bad side effects already with one of them so I stopped taking it. I am having my medical records released so she can see my previous ECT treatment but that is going to take at least 7-10 days to receive them. I am hoping she can refer me to a psychiatrist that does ECT. I think it might be easier to do it through her than myself but I am not sure. I guess I might need two psychiatrists like you said.@@enoughblush

    Have you ever considered the possibility that you might be having OCD and anxiety issues that led to depression?

    • @heidi_d
      @heidi_d 11 месяцев назад

      I’m sure that’s possible, as many of us have more than one diagnosis. ECT was incredibly effective for me - I’m bipolar 2 with adhd and major anxiety.

    • @enoughblush

      Though I struggled with GAD as an adolescent, I no longer fit the diagnostic criteria! However, this is absolutely possible for others, and has been the case with immediate family members of mine.

    • @prakharvlogsofficial
      @prakharvlogsofficial Год назад +3

      Hey it doesn't completely erase all in one session, about 30-60 sessions will let u live peacefully without trauma!
      Although it won't completely erase them, it most certainly erases the intensity of trauma one felt at ge moment!
      My wife had traumatic memories of her childhood but the intensity with which she felt emotions around her traumas has considerably reduced

    • @christophera4364
      @christophera4364 Год назад

      @prakharvlogsofficial I've heard it can cause permanent retrograde amnesia that goes back years but like you said it has to be like 50 sessions.

    • @julesbryant7132
      @julesbryant7132 9 месяцев назад

      It erases memories indiscriminately. Even if the memory is erased the trauma lives on. Plus, ECT gave me PTSD.
