Prior to this Pixelmator Pro update when we brought AI vector files into Motion they came in as actual media files, and while unchecking "Fixed resolution" made them proper vector files it did so at the expense of performance. Now, when we work with Motion projects created by Pixelmator Pro, there are no media files whatsoever (clicking the Media tab reveals nothing). Because all of the artwork is converted to actual Motion shapes and masks there is no longer a performance hit. So on top of all the great features covered in this video we have gained an enormous boost in performance when working with vector artwork.
I had a quite complex project doing this exact thing. On my MBPro M1Max still took 20 min to render 2 min of video. On my desk top mac Intel one took 4 hours. Cant wait to try this! Heading to App Store now...
Another home run, Mark! Thanks for all you do in an effort to make us better storytellers. And thanks for the heartfelt intro. I hope you’re able to find joy in your journey.
I am a fond user of Pixelmator pro for years now and absolutely love what they did to seamlessly complement motion. Best Christmas wishes to the Ripple team and a big thank you for your great videos.
As soon as I saw the Pixelmator update mentioned Motion I wondered if you guys would do some kind of video and you haven't disappointed, fantastic job as always.
I recently purchased the Pro version of Pixelmator, and did not even know about these possibilities! You guys are so full of great ideas, content, and info! Thank you so much for this!
Pixelmator pro is EXCELLENT software. I have both pro and classic and have been using them for years! Thank you for doing this video and for a whole year of great content. Thank you for your sincere message to begin this video as well.
Brilliant!!! Best SVG workflow EVER!!! Thanks for making this Mark. I purchased Pixelmator Pro as soon as it got to the SVG part, then came back and finished the video 👍😉
A - What a perfectly thought out and delivered sentiment at the beginning - 11 months later, it still rings like a very finely crafted bell. B - Way back when I choose to purchase Affinity Designer over Pixelmator because I needed 16 bit Tiffs after the the design was done and Pixelmator was only 8. I don’t know if they have gone beyond, but I have bought it now after seeing these advantages (and a year later, possibly more). Just goes to show that there are many reasons to have many tools in the toolkit. Thanks for the enthusiasm after all these years.
You are thanking us? No, no Mark. It is we that are grateful to you! Your online paid tutorials and plugins are priced affordably and that coupled with these excellent free tutorials just demonstrate your generosity and selflessness. I myself learnt how to use FCPX from yourself and Steve back in the early days of X and can't thank you enough. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you both. P.S.: This video on Pixelmator Pro and Motion was incredibly useful.
Great video. I love that you show different possibilities that can inspire for great ideas. I just purchased Motion, because I was interested in creating motion graphics. Now that I see how well Pixelmator works together with Motion (I already owned Pixelmator), this video really made my day. Really wonderful demonstration!
Yr such a mensch Mark. Thanks for your greeting acknowledging some people have a hard time with the holidays. Definitely getting PMP. So impressed with their iOS version as well, creating mobile content start to finish becoming more of a reality each day. No more throwing money down the Adobe pit. Hoor-flippen-ay! Respect.
I bought Pixelmator Pro earlier when it went on sale. I was excited to hear about their new release features that work with Apple Motion. I love this video showing them off. It's exactly what I needed to know for an upcoming project where I'd like to animate a client's logo. They will be thrilled. Thanks Mark and team. Happy New Year.
Awesome. I wish I would have watched this a few weeks ago when the app was on sale. I would have dove in head first. I may wait on it to go on sale again. Thanks for the video.
Love Pixelmator Pro - didn't know you could export to Motion with it... Just bought Motion so will be having a play with both to see what I can do... Just found your channel and love the content! Anything more on this topic would be cool - thanks for the useful video... Merry Christmas!
Very nice rundown. Bought Pixelmator Pro about a week ago because of a discount that’s running, this is a welcomed surprise. Now… Affinity guys, your turn.
Thank you for this presentation and your emotional speech ❤ For me, Pixelmator is something like a game changer. The team simply thinks about its users. And without the Ripple team I don't think the Shape Export to Motion would have been noticed. Pixelmator is just great. And the Ripple team anyway!!! All the best for the christmas days and a successful year 2022 🎄🥳
Wow this is giving me all sorts of ideas for a couple upcoming work projects. Might be able to avoid using Illustrator, plus get the benefits of exporting to an editable Motion file. Thank you so much for sharing this, Mark!!!
Thanks for the explanations and thanks to the editors of Pixelmator Pro for thinking at Motion! In my case, it helps to make graphics that are compatible with those needing to dock at 0-0 in the upper left. Good news. Sorry for bad english.
This channel rocks and it so far over my head...I can breathe. If you've made a video on the "Setting up of a new job" using FCP, I'd love to watch. I'm a still photographer with about 40 years behind the camera. From Rock & roll to fashion to still-life to now weddings. My new direction is drone work. My stoping point is editing the footage. I need a 'Work-flow' with first setting up a job so I can do the same thing with each job.(I have this with Lightroom) Once I get this down...I'll take on the task of learning FCP 'inch by inch'. Any help is much appreciated. FYI...I did subscribe...🙂
After watching this video and picking my jaw off the floor, i purchased the app! I finally can delete illustrator off my computer! Now if i can figure out the content aware fill technique i can delete photoshop. Can you guys make a full tutorial on a pixelmator pro, motion, final cut pro workflow? Id pay for it!
Love ALL of this. Apologies for being that guy, but with an white on orange background, 11:31 & 12:12 would [also] be RSS. I’m feeling guilty pointing this out because it is a Jiff/GIF thing depending upon how well one has been exposed to XML & the ubiquity of Wi-Fi. This is so many levels of intertextual amazing.

Mark , I wish you and Steve the same for the holidays . And thanks for the last year . I have an question. Can you tell me why my Motion wil start realyyyyyy slow, it wil take a long time. I have a macbook pro 16 with the intel i9 processor . I hope you know the answer..
That would be wonderful. I have Pixelmator Classic, but I use Affinity Photo and Designer for every graphics project. I suspect that the Pixelmator team has done a lot of work to make this feature possible. I doubt that the Affinity team will do this, because they already have so much on their plate, since their obvious objective is to knock out PS.
Hello and sorry if this is off topic, but considering that I already own Affinity Photo (as a Photoshop alternative not for photo editing) and Affinity Designer, do I just need a relatively simple (yet excellent) photo editor like Darkroom. Or should I get (my other choice) Pixelmator Pro. I’m a beginner here, just arming himself with the necessary tools, getting ready to dive into photography, design and image manipulation. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
One thing. I know you prob created the file before hand and then redid it with camera rolling, but for noobs, when you open the file and the shapes are neither the same color nor in the same order it’s very confusing. People who pay attention to details or are slightly ocd would spend the next 5 mins wondering why this happened? Is it a bug in saving files? Did the program magically decide to rearrange the order of shapes, etc? I know it’s small to you and most people watching, but it’s a detail that is there and when continuity breaks it’s a brain breaker. Thanks.
I didn't do it before hand, that's exactly how everything came into Motion from PP - seemed the same order to me but perhaps it wasn't completely the same.
They did not title the video “The Complete Guide to Pixelmator Pro & Motion”. They did provide us with a great intro to the new capabilities. Gratitude is likely more appropriate than criticism.
@@markspencer3104 Your demo seemed rushed to post/deliver as most designers already understand how vectors work. Real world bumper animations could have been better at best those were examples of video bugs.
@@keswickrogers Great to see that you understood the actual point of the video. Pixelmator is the gift that keeps on giving. For a one time purchase it's a tremendous value that keeps getting more valuable with each update.

Thanks for posting this. You're right! This is a significant upgrade to Pixelmator Pro and I anticipate using it a lot in my future Motion projects.
