If she got rejected at the automated email stage prior to an interview, there’s a good chance her resume just didn’t get past the automated filters. It’s a huge problem.

Yeah, it was likely she just didn't ass the personality test. Oh sorry, "assessment" test. (I've seen the result break downs on mime before. They're literally personality tests. Whether or not you get a job is determined by a quizilla test.)

    • @Insertia_Nameia
      @Insertia_Nameia 4 месяца назад

@@fairythegaywhowearstoomuch3039 it can actually be pretty quick and before they take a real look at your app. While I think she failed the personality qui, I knew someone that once didn't hire a man because via stalking his fb and insta they saw his wife is black and they have biracial children together. They even stalked HER fb amd insta to see if she posted anything they didn't agree with (politics, religion, stuff like that.) It's commonly used to discriminate against potential employees because they can claim they had no way of knowing the person is a POC or what their religion is, if they're a single parent, if they're disabled what have you because they never saw them.
I've talked to a couple different people that quit jobs becauae the change to the social media policy was that their manager was to have the PASSWORDS to all their social medias. Not just like they manage the company's account, like their personal and private accounts. I once talked to someone that got fired because they refused to not make their fb account public. (The reason marked down was for "insubordination".) And being a fairly decent sized influencer she would've been very easy to find.

The old hiring manager at the bookstore I work at would look people up on Facebook before making a decision to interview them or not. That could possibly be what happened here too. Idk.

When my mom saw it, she freaked out saying that I was never going to be able to get a job looking like that. She roughly took them out of my ears saying that I would thank her when I was older and it was for my own good.
I never got them re-pierced (I’m thinking about doing it this year even though I’m over 40-years-old) and I still have the scars from it.
She hit the roof when my brother got his first tattoo in around 2001.
She also insisted that he’d never be able to get a job, but he now has one leg covered and a half-sleeve and he’s the least tattooed guy at his workplace.

If tattoos can be easily hidden with clothing, the hiring manager won't care. Tattoos on the chest, shoulders, back and upper thighs and upper arms are no trouble to hide as with pretty much ALL jobs, you have to keep those areas covered anyway. Those are safe places to have them if you don't want a hiring manager to reject you. But on the lower arms and calves, that gets a little tricky. You would have to wear long sleeves and pants/skirts or a thick stockings with a short skirt.
I remember once on "Family Feud" I saw a woman in a short mini dress with a big tattoo on one of her calves but her legs were pretty pale so I'm guessing her boss makes her conceal that tattoo at work, probably with long pants.

The only way someone would know what I look like before the interview would be if they used my name and info to find my social media - however a lot of employers in the US will look into your social media so that is a possibility here. I've also worked retail management for years and would say "experience" is a pretty generic response. If there's nothing in their policy about tattoos or piercings, the mgr would likely never admit if that was their reason, they would just make up something vague like "we hired a more experienced candidate"

I could understand if the debts were medical/school/necessities and still wanted to enjoy life and treating yourself a little while you pay those down, but this doesn't seem like the case for her, but I don't have TikTok and I don't know her situation, but it's definitely how it's coming off. A reasonable rule of thumb would be that, if an image wouldn’t fly if you’d hang it on the wall at your place of work, it doesn’t fly as a visible tattoo either.
Like, the grim reaper can be cool, but not on anyone in healthcare. Nudity doesn’t have to be a problem, just not on a kindergarten teacher. Nothing wrong with a demon on you, but is not great on a pastoral worker, now, it is?
And if the job prohibits the expression of any individuality during work hours (judges, cops, military), that includes tattoos. It would be absurd to have, say, a crucifix on show, when you wouldn’t be allowed one on a necklace, right?

  • @Uneclipsed
    @Uneclipsed 4 месяца назад +53

I genuinely doubt it was **just** the tattoos. Retail companies are really loosening up their tattoo restrictions. I’m not saying they didn’t play a role (because the ones she has are going to be alienating to prejudiced customers), but it could be the tattoos combined with her demeanor and lack of experience. She doesn’t come off as a particularly warm person. By itself it isn’t necessarily a problem-but from an employer perspective she’s coming off as a bit of a gamble to hire. She could be a great worker, or she could be a lot of work to train only for her to dip out in two months when she decides she’s done earning her extra cash.
Also, if she does have money but an employment gap on her resume they’re going to be asking questions and maybe making assumptions (rightly or wrongly) about how she’s earning that money. Just from her videos there are a lot of red flags that tell me it’s not just the tattoos that made her ineligible.

I'm 70 years old and employers wanted experience when I was a teenager, and it was not a new thing then, either, It takes effort to get a job. Your first job, that you use to get experience, is hardly ever the one you want to stay with long term. Tattoos that cannot be concealed by clothing, facial piercings and gauges can make your job search harder. I would say present at interviews in clothing similar to what you see others in that type of store or business wearing to work. Be professional, friendly and confident in your abilities -- approachable. Many interviewers will be at ease with you and many won't. Try researching "inclusive employers" and see what comes up. I was a general manager for 30 years. Many times, local managers must adhere to the company's dress code standards, no matter what their personal feelings are. But I have also seen big changes in dress code standards over the decades. I would say to young people, be respectful in an interview and show them who you are behind the tattoos and piercings. Good luck to all!

Finding jobs is hard. I was in jobsearch limbo for a long time as well. But if you ask why you weren’t hired, it’s common for companies to be vague like “we found better candidates”. While I hate it too, I suppose it’s that they don’t see the point in wasting their time giving feedback people they didn’t hire, when they should be reaching out to the one person they did hire.
Sometimes you’re lucky and the interviewer will later give you reasons, but that’s fairly rare imo (and something to be appreciated when it does happen)

I personally have a ton of piercings and I think the way I’d phrase it is that even though I try to change what professionalism should look like, actions do have consequences and I think you eventually accept it when you get a ton of body modifications. I don’t like it but it’ll take time to for others to accept and realize body modifications don’t equal your work ethic. With that said, the woman did say she was already rejected and they didn’t see her face so I don’t think it’s cuz of the tattoos. She’s just reaching

I’m almost 70 years old, and you couldn’t get a job without experience when I graduated from college.
Plus the prevailing perception was that women were incompetent!!!
Plus, I was subjected to PROFOUND sexual harassment on most job interviews!!!
And this was well before there was a concept of “sexual harassment “ nor were any laws against that. And I had graduated from a top Ivy League college! This was, of course, egregious. Discriminating against people with tattoos is also wrong. And we all have to find some way to succeed in the capitalist system. Perhaps entrepreneuialship could be your path?? But it is true that all young people have real challenges to enter the workplace, but it has ALWAYS taken extraordinary creativity and effort.
    Should it be like this?
    No.
Is it the way it is?
    Unfortunately, yes.
And now hearing the end of the post…
I have nothing to say to the subject of this video.
I just want to address all the other young people trying to find their economic way in the world…
Persevering will ultimately reveal the path forward for you.
It will be harder than it “should be”, but you will eventually triumph!!!

I didn't get hired from the same type of places because I lacked experience. Sight unseen, so I know it's not my aesthetic that didn't get me a call back. After a certain age, places in the US act like hiring someone older is the end of the world. I have been a stay at home mom for 19 years and now that I'm divorcing, I need a job and nobody will hire me because I don't have the experience and at nearly 40, not even Hot Topic would hire me and that's without ever seeing what I look like.
(I do have what are considered job stoppers, but I also didn't need to worry about it before now, so I can't really fix it. I just have to figure something out. Along with a lot of other issues.)

Hospitals are very strange with tattoos. Some positions you can have them and it wouldn’t be a big deal, and with others, you can’t have any. My friend works in the sanitation department, and even though the only people they interact with are doctors/surgeons that order supplies from them, they can’t have ANY visible tattoos and the craziest they can have are the tiniest of tiny nose piercing. One on each side. And maybe one tiny stud in each ear.

Ok, to give another point of view… tj maxx is a family store where kids go. Having visible horror or satanic tattoos is not family friendly. My middle child is 5 and he cannot handle horror stuff. This past Halloween the peoples who’s house our bus stop is at put out a bloody severed pigs head hanging from a butchers hook. He cried the first few days and I would have to hold him against me to prevent him from looking. He always gets uncomfortable on Halloween when the more “gross” costumes come by. I know he’s not the only person who doesn’t really like those kind of things. While we can sit here and cry discrimination all day, a person has to take responsibility for the types of visible tattoos they have and realize that it may simply be that they are not appropriate. If you couldn’t show up to work with these images on a shirt than maybe employers wouldn’t want them tattooed on either

They show up to hand in a resume or an application in ratty jeans or pajamas and they have bad attitudes. My advice to her and anyone else looking for a job, even if you’re not being interviewed that day, show up to hand in your application or resume looking professional. It doesn’t have to a suit but look clean and presentable. Also be nice to everyone you talk to you in that business. Word travels fast and if you’re an asshole the hiring manager will know about it

Tattoos shouldn't prevent you from getting an average job. But I do think certain jobs can implement a "no visible tattoos" which include hands, face, and neck because some companies have to give off a certain look. I used to work for a janitorial company and had to wear long sleeves to cover my tattoos, it was because we worked for a private airport and had to give a certain look. But if you get denied from a job at a retail store that's kinda trashy, it's your attitude that prevents you from getting hired

  • @kaitlynwray

I have a full time job now, and when I went in, I wore a long sleeved dress to hide my arms. My leg tattoos were visible but it was a desk job, essentially, at a college. Once I GOT the job, saw I was not in a customer facing position, and my coworkers did have visible tattoos (shoulder), that was when I lightened up. If you're unsure of where you're going to end up in the future, it's so important that you have tattoos that you know will not be a problem (my leg tattoos) OR that are easy to hide (my arm tattoos). I can not WAIT until this generation gets the reigns and we can become more open and accepting to this and it's not something to be so conscious about... Unfortunately, until then, we, as tattooed people, need to take that responsibility.

I have never had a problem with getting jobs in the 20 years I’ve been getting tattoos. On the flip side, my brother is heavily tattooed as well and works at a warehouse as a supervisor and forklift operator. He’s never had a problem with finding work. Honestly, as someone with neck and hand tattoos, I knew there were risks and prejudices associated with them. It's just something you accept when you get them. Things will continue to improve and in time they won't matter, but that day isn't here yet.
As far as her reply video . . . when we're hurt, a lot of people get defensive. I honestly think if she could take that back she would, because it has to be apparent to her how that came off. Unfortunately, she's gotten defensive again, and that means she has to stand her ground for the sake of her ego. We've all been there; it just usually isn't so public.

I am fairly heavily tattooed myself, but I did not start getting them until I was in my 30’s and had my career on track. I think things are changing but I would still advise youngsters to wait for visible tattoos until you are more settled in your career. Also, I am assuming this person is obviously living on credit. I 100% agree that it is ridiculous to judge people for their body art. I have a full sleeve and almost a full leg sleeve. I work in a very professional setting. I work for a custom, comprehensive wealth management company. We have some clients that are not ok with tattoos. We have some who don't care. My company has zero problems with any kind of body modification or colored hair. There are times for client facing meetings you must conform to certain societal standards. Most client facing positions are required to have "natural colored" hair, but non client facing positions can have whatever they want. I don't have anything that I can not cover with business clothing. In the office, I wear whatever I want short sleeves, skirts, whatever. When meeting with most clients, I wear whatever I want because they don't care as long as I can do my job. For a few clients, I wear business clothing that includes long pants, opaque tights, long sleeves, and high neck tops because they are super conservative. When I speak to young people, I always say, "Know what you want to do with your life." Hopefully, things will catch up in the business world with the modern outlook on body art/ modifications.

Old GenX here, the problem with needing experience is nothing new. The face tattoos and heavily visible tats and piercings were often only seen at a tattoo shop or an alternative store like hot topic. The social media pages of potential employees are also viewed now so if you look like you party alot or have some anti-whatever views thats another mark against you.
Honestly some people are scared of alt people and employers dont want to deal with blowback from customers. I think if she covered her face ink she would be a teeny bit more hireable but doubt it. You have to think of the future when adding mods to yourself. 🤷‍♀️
