I used to get unwanted ‘advice’ on how to make my natural freckles go away, because they weren’t ‘fashionable’ to have. I had no control over having them, but I like having them. It kind of makes me happy to see people agree so much that they decide to get their own on purpose.

They actually said it’s “unfashionable” versus any other criticism? That’s kind of weird because until recently, freckles weren’t considered a fashion. Ugly, unbecoming, not cute, whatever, but to be told specifically “unfashionable” about natural freckles is bizarre.

I have freckles scattered across my body and I’ve always found them cute. I also have natural blemishes and redness - especially on my face - so when it gets a bit much, I like using a thin layer of foundation or concealer to tone done the brightness or noticeability - mostly with the redness. It helps a ton!

I have freckles and I don’t understand the argument about getting bullied for having freckles means other people can’t get them as tattoos. That’s like saying “you can’t get a breast reduction because I was bullied for having small boobs!” Like what?? Lol

As a tattooed person who also has freckles, when I first saw freckle tattoos years ago, I thought "well, this is silly. I was made fun of for my freckles, and now people are getting them tattooed intentionally?" but that was the extent of my reaction. They're not for me, but I have nothing against them. They look cute when they're healed, and if they make someone feel good about themselves, I'm all for it. It's still kinda funny though how things I got bullied for (big butt, freckles) are now considered mainstream pretty 😂

I agree that people would make fun of it and I think it's odd people are getting it tattooed now. It'll cycle back out of fashion again and now they're stuck with it when they didn't initially have it? Like there's more to regret there since they chose to have them I feel like? I just feel more strongly about changing yourself for a trend thatll cycle out more than anything though I think.

Honestly, I equate freckles/freckle tattoos to hair. People with curly hair tend to like to straighten their hair, people with straight hair wish they had curly hair. People with non-blonde or dark blonde hair dye it blonde/platinum, etc etc. A lot of us tend to want things we don't have and that's natural. So, if you want freckles, just do it safely and correctly.

@@tabbi888 I have to disagree intensely. For one thing, I don't think there is anything good that *someone* at *some* point hasn't been ridiculed for. Also, not everyone with freckles was ridiculed. There are many comments here (including my own) from freckled people who loved their freckles. Also, emulation helps to change perception. When I was a teenager the idea of big butts and full, natural eyebrows were ridiculed and look at them now? Body curves, natural curls, were ridiculed. Now you're seeing all of those things all of the time and women are getting to feel so much happier and confident in their bodies because people started *emulating* those looks. If freckles are being seen more and more as a beauty thing (which they are, look how many high fashion models are heavily freckled these days), then maybe some people will get to look in the mirror and see that beauty for themselves that they never saw before. I was lucky enough to always love my freckles, but even though not everyone did, this doesn't mean others cant.

Very late response, but I think there are different "types" of freckles. As an example, I have darker & larger freckles on my arms. Those babies aren't shifting or fading. But I would get softer & smaller freckles on my face during the summertime if I got a lot of sun. The tattooed freckles usually remind me more of the latter.

It's easy to change your hair with dye if you get teased for ginger hair, but it's not so easy to cover your skin when you have freckles. Usually most with freckles don't just have them perfectly placed on the face as it is with tattooing, they're usually everywhere all over the body especially the arms etc. I do think it's a slap in the face to those of us born without the choice. To me it's like black face, basically the same principle.

    • @montananerd8244
      @montananerd8244 10 месяцев назад +31

@@tabbi888I get the analogy, but the reason blackface is considered a slur has to do with privilege and context. Drag isn't a slur against women, because the typical performers (gay men or trans women) have less social privilege than most people who appear "femme." Ginger people may get bullied but I doubt they earn significantly less, get shot by police, etc. You're comparing apples and oranges.

I can see why a dermatologist wouldn’t recommend getting natural freckle tattoos. Dermatologist use freckles and dark spots to identify cancers so if you got a bunch of fake ones it could make recognizing a cancer versus a large fake tattoo. However, this can also be a problem with regular tattoos. While I think she could’ve been more tactful with the pictures she chose I think the doctor was coming from a good place. She was bringing light to the fact that this is a trend and that perhaps people should do freckles with makeup before jumping to a tattoo, regardless of how permanent they are.
And I think that perhaps you’re too close to the situation to look at both sides with as little bias as possible. You said that a)you had freckles as a kid; b) weren’t bullied for them; c)wanted them but not the sun and d) Got tattoo freckles cause you wanted them for years. All of these are fine, great even, but they have lead you to ignore that this is a fashion trend and therefore should be looked at from a trend perspective like the doctor was. You even said in your video that you didn’t think it was a trend.
I can’t say from personal experience that I had a ton of freckles, i had like 3. But I do remember growing up seeing freckles deemed as ugly, unwanted, and associated with being dumb or poor. So seeing people take these attributes that were considered ugly 10 years ago and getting them tattooed because they looked cute on someone else is… pretty jarring. So yeah, I’d rather see people use makeup to make freckles daily for like a month or 2 then get a freckle tattoo instead of just seeing them get it as soon as it becomes a thing.
I personally love the look of freckles, but would never get them tattooed on me just cause it would feel like I’m lying about how I look naturally. But that’s my opinion and at the end of the day none of this matters.

Seeing people get moles, especially facial moles/beauty marks, tattooed makes me feel a bit more comfortable. Tattooed ones don't come with the raised texture and hair, and are always on the cute dainty side, but it still makes me feel nice knowing they're in vogue again. I hope all those people who were bullied as kids for their freckles can find some peace in freckles being fashionable these days.

I kind of understand where freckled people are coming from 😅I always had super defined, thick, dark eyebrows, and growing up that was considered... undesirable at best. And then it became the hottest new trend. Entire new products dedicated to replicating a look that for me was natural, and had once been considered unattractive. And I felt a little hurt and bewildered that, seemingly overnight, all that had changed. Yet still my brows weren't quite perfect, because they WERE natural, and other peoples replication of it wasn't 'messy', it was perfect. Symmetrical, deliberate, a perfected version, because they controlled every aspect of it. Because it was fake. It felt so weird! And kind of bad! And then... the trend declined.
Now its just funny. I know that someday another physical trait of mine is going to be popular for a few years, and then be discarded. And I realized that is true of literally everyone. A feature they hate is going to be popular someday; their figure, tooth gap, nose bump, eye shape, height, weight, complexion, voice. Hopefully when that happens, they'll just find it dumb and funny too❤So if you DO get freckle tattoos or replicate a natural 'feature' please have a little patience for all the people that DO have them; its a weird feeling and it can genuinely hurt a lil' bit

So one of the things I was big time bullied for as a kid was the fact I had very light, almost white blonde hair. Kids called me "albino girl" and stuff like that for it. My hair has darkened to a more dirty blonde shade in my adult years, but it was that platinum (or whatever it's called) blonde color that so many people these days spend a lot of money on to get and maintain. I don't have any issue with the fact that people are artificially changing themselves to have what I got bullied for as a kid. I feel like people who do take issue with something like that are just bitter and have held onto the old hurts for so long they just assume that the people who get the freckle tattoos now are the same people who bullied people for freckles in the past when they have no way of knowing that. And even if they did, I'm of the belief that people are allowed to change and grow, and most do.

I love the look of skin that isn't perfectly "clear" (to use the word from the video). Freckles, birth marks, beauty marks, moles, etc. I have several beauty marks on my face, a splattering of freckles on my arms, and an odd number of moles pretty much everywhere. I love them and the character they give to my skin, especially my face.

It’s interesting to see the different perceptions of this “trend” from people with natural freckles.
I was bullied throughout my childhood for having dark circles around my eyes and droopy eyelids caused by ptosis (weak eyelid muscles basically.)
Now there are makeup trends like siren eyes which seek to achieve a narrow eye shape, and I’ve even seen people recreate sunken eyes and dark circles with makeup. I personally find it very flattering to see that the traits I was once bullied for are now considered beautiful by some. The faux dark circles do make me chuckle, but ultimately it makes me happy and more confident leaving the house without concealer around my eyes.
Maybe it’s different seeing your natural features tattooed on someone semipermanently as opposed to just replicated with makeup which washes off at the end of the day.

I have very dark, thick eyebrows. When I was a kid, I used to get bullied for them, and girls would make me let them pluck them at slumber parties (I never plucked them otherwise). Now, I still don't do anything to maintain my brows, and I get complimented on them all the time and people tell me they wish theirs were as full as mine. People fill in their own eyebrows with makeup and even tattoos to get eyebrows that look like the ones I was made fun of for in childhood.
I don't get mad at people for wanting full eyebrows. Do whatever you want. I like my brows, I always have, and it's nice that other people like them now too. To me, this kind of thing is just a reminder that physical beauty trends are fleeting. If you want to permanently alter your appearance, just make sure it's based on your own wants and not the current social trend. My friend overplucked her brows in high school and now they don't grow back and she's sad they're too thin. Another friend got eyebrows tattooed and now she's sad because she doesn't like the look anymore. Just be careful!

I got freckle tattoos the first time in 2015 and the online attention got so out of hand. People were being sooo rude about it and made so many assumptions about me. A buzzfeed article took my picture as well as a bunch of news articles and Facebook articles. That’s when I learnt the hard way your Instagram photos are not your property.

I had "cute" freckles across my nose and cheeks when I was little too and didn't really have any strong feelings on freckle tattoos, no one ever commented on my freckles, at school in Scotland they were the majority. However I felt a wee bit different about it after speaking to my mum - she has very heavy freckles and gets stared at/grabbed/touched (I'm sure lots of heavily tattooed people can relate) - I think it's hard for people who have lots of freckles to see a handful being so desirable when they're still treated as weird (although obviously not a reason to be unkind online about someone's skills and hard work)

How many people got tattoo they regreted and have to hide them??? This is ABSOLUTELY a trend and there are a lot of 18 something 20 something who are doing this without a lot of thinking. You can hide a ugly body tattoo but its much harder when it's on your face. I have seem many many cosmetic tattoo that use semi-perm ink and they fade looking like shit. From my perspective I wouldn’t see an issue with someone having freckle tattoos. Although if someone was bullied for them, I would understand why they would be confused or frustrated with the semi-trend
Freckles, moles and the such are all beautiful and make you unique. Overall, I think we should be happy that they are more accepted now.

I sympathize with the frustrations of those who were bullied over freckles..
That's ALWAYS what happens with beauty trends. In the 90s, Heroin chic was the look, so if you were curvy with large breasts and bum you were called fat. Then the 2000s came and curvy was in. Hourglass figures with large busts, slim stomachs thick thighs and large bums became the look and if you didn't have that, you were considered unattractive or less than.
It's the same thing with the freckles trend. People are now going to get them tattooed because they are in. But, just like with every trend, it will pass and something else will soon by considered "the look."
That's why inhate Beauty Trends more than any other trend out there. They always leave a huge chunk of the population feeling ugly or less than..

I was also teased for having freckles (and ginger hair) as a kid. Now as an adult who also doesn't go out in the sun very much the freckles on my face have faded and I've found that I miss them! I can definitely see myself getting freckle tattoos to restore where they used to be and also as a way of reclaiming something I felt insecure about it in the past. In the same way, my red hair has gone more brown over the years and I occasionally use henna to lift it back to the shade it was when I was younger because "being ginger" now feels like part of how I view myself!

Idk, people use makeup to do very accurate freckles. The same can’t be said for most types of tattoos. So I don’t think that’s a fair comparison.
I don’t watch her much anymore, but as someone who watched Dr. Pimple Popper’s RUclips videos for years before she got a TV show, I can pretty well guess why she has issue with freckle tattoos. One of the things she used to sometimes put up on her channel, and one of the things she did/does frequently at her practice, is laser tattoo removal. She had a lot of people come in for laser tattoo removal for face tattoos. And obviously that leaves a scar behind. Scar tissue leads to other skin issues. So she has a lot of experience having to deal with the aftermath of people not liking tattoos they put on their faces. While the tat is there it doesn’t really cause any issues, but from what I remember, once you remove it it’s just a whole cascade of issues. It hurts a lot to remove, costs a lot to remove, and leaves behind scar tissue that creates future skin issues.
So I think her being against freckle tattoos falls into the same category as her being against any sort of facial tattoo, which has been a long established position from her, and from what I can tell, dermatology as a whole. And then you add on the dimension of unlike other tattoos, you can easily mimic the same look with makeup. I think she’s misinformed on how long the tattoos last, but this isn’t a new position from her (I don’t recall her being a fan of any sort of permanent makeup) and I’m sure that there ARE people who will be tired of their freckle tats before they fade and go to a dermatologist trying to get them off.

As someone with a fully freckled face (and body) I find the trend (it is absolutely a trend) to be weird. Mind you, something no one talks about is freckle tattoos just use the youthful smattering of freckles across the bridge of the nose and cheeks, something seen has more innocent or young, so I'm still looked at differently due to my excess amount of freckles.
But this is absolutely a trend that's going to come and go. Like everything else there are outliers of people who have always wanted something or will get something when it's not on trend... but give it a couple of years.

So few people have good enough skin to do this. I would but my acne is terrible it would look awful.

I've had issues with general facial marks, I had a constellation of beauty marks/moles I developed through agez 4-7 mostly because of staying in the sun a lot without the proper protection, so I often found people drawing on beauty marks as being ridiculous but it's small, yet significant things that make us different and give us charm, I don't see it as a trend much as I see it as uplifting the focal points, whether that be your face, arms etc. And freckles can be and have so many diverse placements, shapes and patterns, it's a shame they get reduced to an imperfection when we have bigger fish to fry as humans rather than our looks past, present and/or future.
I'm more disappointed in Dr Lee's statement bcs as an avid viewer of her show, seeing her perform procedures on an area that might be tattooed and she tries her best to avoid ruining that is affirming of a health practitioner but this was not it ..

I think that Dr. Pimple Popper's point is that while many people really love and have always wanted freckle tattoos, the huge boom in interest can be classified as a fad. Same could be said with any tattoo design or piercing or clothing or the like. I think it was more of a warning to people who might not be fully aware of the risks, and also of the fact that it is a face tattoo. It's not something you can easily cover up the way you could a tattoo on a wrist or a leg. I love tattoos and think everyone should do what they want. But I also think there's nothing wrong with pointing out that the immense and sharply growing interest in this kind of tattoo is a fad. Tomorrow or next week the world could switch up the opinion and go back to hating freckles.

I don’t think it’s worth the risk of infection if it’s something that you’re going to cover with makeup anyway, but I’m sure there’s lots of people who don’t have the skill, or time to do freckles themselves when doing their makeup who would find it convenient to avoid that time consuming process. If you’re spending hours every week doing freckles in your morning makeup routine, or would really like to have them but don’t have the skill, or time there’s probably some value for you that is worth the risk. I personally just don’t think it’s worth poking tiny holes in your face for a temporary cosmetic change, because you’re risking the chance you get an infection that can do permanent damage. Remember that one girl who did her own freckles with ink she got on Amazon, I know that was a worst case scenario , but yikes.

I had a lot of freckles as a kid, I don't recall getting much grief, never gave them much either. Until I learned that freckles are a result of sun exposure (and genetics ofc) and sun exposure leads to skin damage and looking older sooner. I spent every waking second I could in the Aussie skin as a kid. I started avoiding it eventually, but the damage is done.
I know freckles are harmless but I can't help but see them as skin damage from the sun. Or at least a precursor to it.
I've been an indoor cat now for over 3 years coz health and get minimal exposure to direct sunlight, and when I do go out I cover as much as I can without overheating. I can't use sunscreens. Skin says no very loudly and aggressively when I do. Most of my freckles have faded now, at least on my face. Oddly not so much on my arms.
Freckle tattoos strike me as being safer for the skin. No UV exposure needed!
Tattoos fade. Even permanent black ones. I know mine that's nearly 13 years is no where near as black as it used to be. Kinda looks greyish now.
These are done with semi permanent ink so in 10 years time I'd be surprised if you could see much of anything, let alone 20 years.
And they aren't dark and bold like black line work so it would be easy enough to cover with make up with you want an even complexion. Like I used to do with my natural freckles when I still used cosmetics.
To each their own. Your body, your skin, your choice, your consequence. Do what you want and hurt no one.
The freckle appropriation comment made me laugh. I'm going to read that as being satirical. 🤣🤣

I plan on saving up to get freckles tattoos because I feel more attractive and more confident with them. Just because you had a bad experience with one type of physical feature doesn’t mean no one else can like them. I always loved my freckles! I was never bullied for them though (instead I was bullied for my protruding ears so instead I hated them)
When you showed the healed freckle tattoos I really thought they looked so good and I would definitely get some done by that artist if I could.
I can’t really understand why people are so outraged about these freckle tattoos. I know people also do rainbow or constellation freckle tattoos and I can understand that people might find that strange but with normal freckles?

As someone who has had freckles all my life, I don’t have a problem with freckle tattoos. They’re adorable! My freckles have gradually faded since I was a kid but they’re still here and I’m glad I have them! If freckle tattoos make someone happier in their own skin then that’s great! I was bullied for some of my prominent freckles as a child too but I don’t think you should ever push your own anger and frustration onto other people.

I was never made fun of for my freckles, but Society called them blemishes while I was growing up, and that did something to me.

Personally I've been bullied for my freckles in the past and I still have them to this day. They are all over and on my sholders too. What rubs me the wrong way about freckle tattoos is the fact that they're only included on places what's considered socially cute and not all over your body. The second thing is, peeps probably don't realize they're trying to recreate someone else's skin. Now I for one do not understand tanning or wanting to look like you have different skin color. We all know it's pretty frowned upon in some cases and a really sensitive matter. So I don't get why people don't get the "yikes I'm probably being inappropriate for getting them" from this. I mean especially red heads can't help it and are always made into a joke of some kind because of what they look like.

i am sorry people have been so cruel to you. i dont have many freckles, but used to have mroe when i was younger, and in my opinion i dont understand why anybody wouldn't want freckles yknow? its kind of a "the grass is greener on the other side" kind of situation. but also i think an all over freckle tattoo would be a bit odd and super expensive, and the place most people see is your face. me personally i already have freckles all over my body but only a few on my face and i wish i had more. i have always found freckles so beautiful and always wanted more.
