  • Welcome to the 2022 start of the driving season and in this weekly review, we are featuring not one but two built and rare 2004 and 2005 Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5s. Ian, a Middle TN Mazdaspeed Miata tuner, is featured in this video and talks about his 300+ horsepower built right ride. The 2005 Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 is our new channel vehicle which we have plans to track in the very near future now features around $7k in upgrades. We are working on a racing livery and a whole series coming with this 2005 Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5.
    I got to say right of the bat, the Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 is one of the most enjoyable vehicles I have ever reviewed or driven. The Mazdaspeed Miata is light, only 2400 pounds, and has enjoyable power around 178 hp stock. Each of these Mazdaspeed Miata's has over 200 horses, and let me tell you they not only sound incredible but really move. The 50/50 weight balance, the six-speed manual, the lack of safety tech, the Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 is honestly one of the most enjoyable driving experiences - PERIOD.
    Another excellent point is because it's small, affordable and light, the Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 wearables are so much less. The fuel economy is much better than most modern sports cars which when gas is over $4.50 for premium these days that matters. The tires will last longer because its light, clutches, brakes, and suspension parts all last longer when beaten on such as for multiple track days. For that reason, this is why the Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 is always the answer and has become one of the most preferred entry-level track cars.
    For this reason, we sourced this 2005 Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 specifically for the track and frankly as a content play. We hope that you all enjoy and engage with the content. If not, we may have to sell the car. The good news is if you want a Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5, you can still find them for between $12k and $16k which makes them a lot of fun for not a lot of money. Again, this is why Miata is always the answer for an affordable and fun track or weekend warrior car.
    We really appreciate Ian coming over and showing everyone his awesome 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5. His Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 has a large Garrett Turbo, standalone ECU, coolant reroute, new injectors/plugs, exhaust, wheels, suspension, hood vents, aero and so much more. Ian has spent years building his Mazdaspeed Miata himself and we just love it. Tell me his engine in his Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 is not the best sounded 4 cylinder engine you have ever heard! He says his Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 has around 350 hp and while I can't confirm that the butt dyno can confirm!
    We really love these rare Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5. As we mentioned, Mazda only was able to produce around 5,400 units before the factory burned down, making these cars quite rare. Think about this, Porsche produced more GT3RS's in the past two years than Mazdaspeed Miata's were made in the two years they were produced. To this day, the Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 is the only factory turbocharged MX-5 ever made. And most likely as we head into an EV world, will be the only one.
    Always we thank you for watching and any support of our channel over the years. Please comment, like and share with anyone you think may love the content. We will do our best to answer any questions and look forward to making some great content with the Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 this year.

    Makes me proud as a Velocity Red owner. Love these cars, I'll never give mine up. It's gotten a full longblock build and a GTX3076R. Its just collectable enough that I cherish it, but common enough that I'm not afraid of exposing it to the elements. So happy Mazda took this risk on the NB ❤

    I’ve been waiting for this! So stoked you guys have not one but two of these to review. Ian’s build is legendary. I lol’d when Ian said he wanted keep shaving the bay and you were like “it’s already clean” haha that thing is sick. Great review and content guys!! Patiently awaiting the track content 👌

    Nice cars, nice video why ditch the entire stock fueling system? Seems like big overkill unless there are any glaring issues with it from factory. Would also love to know which coolant reroute he went with and where he heard MSM's come with forged internals as I'd be thrilled were that truly the case lol

    • @Driven-Productions
      @Driven-Productions  2 года назад +1

      Appreciate the comment. Stock ECU allows for flexibility to make more power through larger turbos, and use of E85. I’m running mine (05 in the video) stock ECU boost at 11.4 and its running fine so far. Grant you Ian ran 18 pounds shoot day, with a much larger turbo.
      Coolant re-route was on SuperMiata (.com). Mine and Brakes plus bunch of suspension/underbody upgrades on the way.
      I can’t speak on the Forged Internals, but I know these engines can take a beating.

    • @TAGjuniorkid
      @TAGjuniorkid 2 года назад

      @@Driven-Productions many thanks, in the process of prepping my own 04 for track abuse I've found not every reroute is designed to accommodate the turbo. Here's hoping I can get away with just an upgraded pump and injectors fueling wise for a relatively low-stress build

    • @ianmcdonald477
      @ianmcdonald477 2 года назад

      I would like close to 500whp in the long run. So I over built everything in prep for that.

    • @ianmcdonald477
      @ianmcdonald477 2 года назад +1

      I am wanting to build the engine eventually and go for 500whp. So, I went with -6AN lines and converted it to a full loop system. I also did a Deatschworks 400 fuel pump. So it is very much over kill for the power level I have now, but is prepped for when I decide to go for 500whp.
      Upon further research it seams like the engine does not have Forged internals. Some have said that it does, and this what I remember, but it seems like the majority say other wise. It still has handled over 300 just fine. At least so far. haha.
      I also have a Boundry oil pump with a ~70 PSI shim. So that with the Cobalt coolant re-route, the computer with a good tune, and LS coils help it make reliable power. It is a pretty high stress engine but has support in other ways to help out.

    • @ianmcdonald477

      I cut the rear lip along the factory fake defuser. Re installed the lip and marked where to cut on the bumper. Then taped everything off and cut it with a jig saw and cleaned it up with a drimel. you. will have to figure out a way to attach the middle section of the lip to the bumper. When you cut out the defuser you also cut out the attachment points. I used 3M tape to secure it but I bet there are better options out there. lol
