Modern equivalent of a AC Cobra or Sunbeam Tiger or Alpine. Big V8 in a roadster sports car...looks like it wants to head right for that DITCH!!
That power in a light weight car, cool. You have a funny car to drive. Nice swap!
And a ton of weight now over the front wheels, possibly near twice the weight. An LS3 weighs 403lbs
What's the weight distribution now?
can this ls3 kit work with the fiat spider version?
*Fiat, yes.
Nice job and I am sure they could do just as nice with a Coyote, I have a hard time pulling a OHC engine to put a pushrod engine in it's place. You know when Chevy comes out with it's own OHC V-8 all the GM guys will be naming it the greatest engine since the sb.
Jeeez that’s a sweet little ride
Took out the cone 1:20 😂😂
Being on the same track you can see the difference in power than Bob but also the weight to handling aspect as well i bet that thing feels like a tiny boat
Loving the miata content!
Just ask Taylor Ray how good V8 swapped Miatas are
He’s awesome.
His shit still dont work right, every other video is "fixing the ls miatas _____"
Carb approved for locations like metro denver boulder area that follow those carb rules?
Review verdict: all the lols
BUT a Miata that makes pissed off dinosaur noises is far from "sleeper" lmao.
Pissed of dinosaur noises. I love it. Never heard that one before.
It also has LS3 written all over it.
Definitely should have chosen a larger track for this setup
You got those beauty shots somewhere as images? Would love them for my desktop background =)
So is there a shop that makes these already?
Cant believe I'm looking at a miata while hearing v8 noises
Where can i buy one? I NEED IT NOW!
Modern Cobra!
That`s what i wanted to ask. Mazda doesnt have their can bus protocol open so you have to reverse engineer everything, right? Jeez, that`s a pain. If they had that open that would be so awesome for a tuner car.
VQ37VHR motor would sound sick
I would love to own one and I'd love to see a video of this on the Fiat 124. I wonder if they ever did one.
the sound of the v8 engine is beautiful
If only they used this in there cars stock
Why no link to Flyin’ Miata website?
Because Flyin’ Miata isn’t doing turnkey swaps anymore.
how much it weights? compare to the origianal 4 cylinder
LS3 403lbs, right on the front wheels. Standard MX5 engine some where around 200-300lbs
Hope to eventually see Brody Goble’s 240 on Hoonigan. My favourite car!
How unoriginal
tight space in that engine bay
I want one, but getting it street legal in Germany would be a challenge to say the least...
Nah. SPS Motorsports is at it right now.
I wonder if 4 litre soarer motor would fit?
3.5 to 60 is really good considering how small those tires are. Probably spinning the whole time though
Idk, they are kinda small but proportionally to how small a Miata is, they are pretty big
@@ConLLee less weight = less traction
That head explosion caught me off guard lmfaooooooo
As a Mazda tech this would be fun to see irl 😍
What about that MINT dodge dakota in the back ground tho?!?
People need to 20B or Renesis swap one of these, then they will truly be insane !
I've been saying that for a while. I get asked a lot if my RF is the new supra or some European underdog car. I say "no it's a Mazda" and often get "oh so it's the new rx7 or rx9?!"
Then I just gotta tell em it's an MX5 fastback. I think the RF would be a great platform to put in a 26b. Way more power and less weight than the ls series. And just as much potential if not more.
@@EjinRenos Yeah. Not to mention it's smaller so it stays Midshipped- one of the things the Roadster is known for. I did the math with a buddy of mine with an NA8, A 13B Renesis wil give the car a REAR END weight bias. We're in California so it would be a no no anywho.
@@RyuusanFT86 California running the fun. Lol. But yeah the 13b isn't that bad of a platform especially on turbo and the balance of a roadster is very important. Hell, any car. I never understood why people just wanna stuff the biggest engine they can without exploring smaller options.
@@EjinRenos Yeah. It depends on how the Rotary is ported that decides if it handles boost well. That's why people knocked on the RX8 because the renesis ports dumb down the reliability if boosted- which the sole purpose of a renesis port is for reliability. I had an FC and an RX8 and I'd pick the RX8 over the FC any day. The RX8 had two owners, first owner took care of it, second didn't. It had 115k on the 6 port and had no compression loss. Plan on getting another.
is this track willow springs
I want!
Besides the exotics and luxury cars etc I would buy if I won lotto, I would definitely build one of these.
how does it do in rallycross i wonder
500HP, my fastest click ever 😅
I have an LS3 hotcam, 450 wheel HP in my Solstice. Everything works. Its fun. But its NOT a toy ladies car LOL.
This is something I've wanted to do for a while
That’s going to be an electrical nightmare over the years but it sure is cool
Minus the stripe and badges it would be a nice sleeper
First thing he says is "Wow I can't believe it, everything works." Like what? Was it not suppose to?? 😂
"They don't even had a 6 cylinder anymore"
Oh yeah, isn't that inline-6 supposed to be unveiled next year?
Correction: 2022, so two years.
How much does a car like this cost?
I am so jealous! I have a 1990 Miata, 115 HP...
respect 🙌 Ls3 miata damn 👏
I thought they are California legal from Matt's TST review years ago... guess the v8 swap didn't pass emission after all, what a bummer :/
The pre 95 bodies will pass emissions in california. They have different rules for after that.
I do kinda wonder what is going on with the weight distribution though
omnicognate You are taking out the 4 cyl iron block and swapping in an aluminum V8. I believe it changes to a 52/48 balance after the swap, maybe 200 lb difference.
@@Blaze5468 i'm honestly surprised it doesn't change it more than that given the car only weighs about 1000kg
But then the heavier transmission and rear end help balance that out more.
@@Blaze5468 Though its not just weight balance, its about 150-200lbs right on the front wheels. Thats gotta affect the handling
@@Blaze5468 Thats true. A heavier car all round - thats going to affect the handling
This isn't a new concept by any means but they executed it well. It's a very clean build
What's the weight difference in the engines, does anyone know?
LS3 is 403lbs. It's hard to find the weight of a standard MX5 engine (200-300lbs), but it's possible that the engine has almost doubled in weight, and thats right on the front wheels. I know americans love to their V8's into everything, no matter how small it is, but it must affect the handling, theres no way it wouldn't
What brilliant engineering
