13:48 "the gauges are my favorite part because it looks OEM" *zooms in on sideways tach*
If you're going to do custom gauges at least make the numbers level, it looks so cheap to have it just tilted over
They literally said it was a nod to old race cars
Putting redline centered makes it easier to see when racing....
@@brodyhanna7443 did old race cars have numbers sideways too?
@@andrewg2618 no.
I love Larry's dream sequence while he's driving. 😂
Miata’s and Larry Chen? Could Friday get any better? This car is so clean too!
though the same.. i like your miata too
Your K24Z3 is the way to go for a miata, it's my goal!!!
I have a supercharged 93 Miata but this dudes selling that turbo like a boss !!!
Somethings i really liked were the front emblem and the horn emblem. Really brought the car together to me
In the UK MX5's could be ordered with BBR turbo kit from the dealer in 90 and 91!
Flyin Miata are some beasts. Never knew how much they put into their products
Larry, I pray I have the opportunity to bump into you again man! Forver regretting trying to play it cool when I thought I was in your way at Aasbo's pit in NJ last year.
Keep up the great work!
I had the pleasure of being at The Mitty at Road Atlanta some years ago when the Miata was the make / model they were celebrating and was able to sit in on a Q&A session with Keith Tanner and other FM staff as well as get a ride in Igor. There is so much Miata knowledge and passion in the employees at FM.
I had to do without a Miata for a few years but recently got another and I've promised myself I'll go to the Summer Camp FM puts on.
Great Video!! FM makes great parts. Larry Chen makes great Photos and interviews people really well. Much appreciation, respect and love! Miata IS the answer
Flyin miata got my dad interested in miatas 16 years ago and he STILL has his na special edition miata.
been dreaming of a miata for years. as soon as my son is out of the car seat, it's happening
I would LOVE one of these turbo kits. We do kit car chassis's based on these mx-5/miata's. Next build is a 13b 6 port. :)
So insane to see cars I’ve seen in person on autofocus, video really doesn’t do justice to how mint captain bob is.
Vintage racing is a real option for these cars
Haha larry said hoon-around so much flex keep it coming larry i cant even keep up with the content i have to watch it from start to finish
Nothing like watching Larry take a corner like this 1:58
thinking about getting one of these 1st gen
Get a second gen, its more or less the same car but better in all aspects, cheaper and more available.
Get whatever you want bro. I got a 91 and fell in love at first test drive.
You really cant go wrong with any gen honestly. Just watch out for rust and get one that was properly maintained and you'll have a great time no matter what gen.
Doesn't matter if it's a 1.6 or a 1.8. They are all slow and have their own issues. Just buy whatever you can afford, it will still be fun around corners.
I had a turbo widebody Miata check it out on my channel you'll love it man
I'm a big boy. And I'm really. Happy the NC exists...
the style of this reminds me of my daily 92 Fox body notch back, about 380HP but rear seat delete plexi windows in the rear (only because i got a really REALLY good deal on some thick stuff that was smoked and all 3 of my rear windows were busted out by a cock wobble. but the real treat is a tubular front suspension and IRS of a crashed Cobra. lots of weight savings but the suspension is comfortable and able to be adjusted for track day fun. i love how tight this thing is on the track but in 20 minutes after running laps i turn a few knobs and im back to the street manners of a grand touring style vehicle. but i could have bought a house for total cost of this thing, a cheap house but a house none the less
Just out for a Sunday drive...enjoying the breexe...Great video !
I used to own an NB Miata and had every intention of upgrading it with a flyin’ Miata turbo kit and some sway bars until someone rear ended me while I was parallel parking it. Ended up buying an s2000 instead of another miata, but I LOVED that car.
Kswap is way better than a turbo kit
@@Pube83 honestly, you're right, but this was back in 2006 and to my knowledge k swaps weren't super common back then.
@@Pube83 Kswap isn't Mazda though (DUH). As NA's start to get older and more valuable and rarer... My Desire is to create an NA that Appears Bone stock and keeps as much Stock parts as Possible. The FM Kit , While not stock is so common as to be "Period Correct" . So No Swaps. This blue Car is my Goal. It is perfection.
such a beautiful, clean build!
Of all the things to be surprised about... I'm amazed that this NA still has it's sunvisors. XD
Mine were gone a decade ago.
i dont make fun Larry imma Porsche/aircooled vw nerd and totally think yer Z car build is frikkin legit!!!!
What bluetooth receiver did they use?
I’d like to know that’s clean
California will also be the first state to go all E.V.'s as well.
I completely forgot flyin Miata is in town. About freaked when I saw the track and the mesa in the background
That's the exact color I want my NA. they look amazing in dark blue
The color is a wrap. 3M Cosmic Blue.
@@FlyinMiataVideo Wasn't expecting a reply from you guys! Thank you very much, you guys make kick-ass stuff.
Great video, beautiful builds
Watching this miata in my miata
The color on that ND 😍
Hey, I have a car from 1990 that's turbo 1.8... and it's a mazda :)
Man, that's an awesome roadster
"Its been turbocharged since milli vanilli was in the charts" Oh turbodaddy yes
Man he knows that track 💪 👊
Oh yeah! They know what is up!!!!!!!!!!
Miatas are affordable, fun, and they smile.
They need to put the Clutch "Happy Meal" kit back into stock. Just now have the money to order one and was sad to see it's out of stock
Nice car and a nice report
Love to see a new miata vid, I'm boosting my na this winter but will probably be going the ebay route as the flying miata kit is very expensive
My advice would be second hand parts as much as possible. Good condition second hand quality parts are always a better option than brand new Chinese eBay parts.
@@magnetic0314 I'd rather not do second hand, I know what I'm looking for parts wise and I'll rebuild internals on turbo before installing it, secondhand means it's beaten on and prone to fail
If you want more than 15,000 miles out of your turbo I wouldn't. For track and fun eBay craps fine, if you want a halfway dependable car definitely don't.
@@hendersonwilliamk did you not see my other comment, I'm rebuilding the turbo w stronger internals before installing
@@qwertyobsjcj it's not just the internals the tolerances are garbage it'll probably have issues regardless. Your benefit you just won't send bits through your engines internals.
One of these days i will get a big enchilada for my msm!
sniff sniff, remind of the sound of my bpt familia gt . im so sad now, i should grow up and stop thinking about this
Larry you are the best!
miata forever
$3,800 for an ENTIRE turbo kit PLUS ecu controller...my god, maybe I want a Miata now. And gimmi the FL special with 200+ fuck emissions HP
For 10k you can buy or build a missile Miata.
K-swap kit is what? $4k. K24a2 is $800. Add a new oil pump and other goodies, blah, blah, you're looking at $6-7k for a k that does 220 wheel with Honda reliability. Not to mention K's are the best 4 cylinders ever made and have a HUGE aftermarket and can handle 500whp boosted on a stock block. Now someone just needs to knockoff the ridiculously overpriced kswap kit and sell it for $2k.
Intro song on point
Correction
- $800 to $975 stage 1 kit comes without the voodoo box #1996Miata
Mkay, where's the thermostat or how did you deleted that?
Such a good looking car...
nice vid but omg why is the outro so god damn loud bruh i s2g everytime hear that song coming on i scramble to turn the volume down as quickly as I can before the beat drops & all my windows shatter
man laguna blue miatas are so rare
I have an NA with nearly 400k miles, 2nd motor tho
We just one big "Car Culture" family...
Hope they gave you a ride in Indy too!
okay ik what kit to get :)
F you guys are wanting these silver trim ring around the air conditioning outlets, contact the Mazda MX-5 UK car club, they had them in stock. But I don't know if they still have them .
There are a lot of trim rings that are fairly thick, these ones in particular are quite a bit thinner and harder to find. But they match the rest of the car better so they're worth it. Look for didotuning on eBay.
Interested in what they're doing to that Dodge Dakota in the background
Belongs to a staff member, it needed some repair work. Nothing too exciting :)
What color is this? Looks like Winning Blue.
Let’s go babyyyy
flyinmiata should make a radio delete kit
Curious what Flyin Miata thinks the best year is (NX...) kinda in the market but tough being 6'4
RF is probably your best bet if you have the money but NB seems fine i’m 5”10 and it is not too cramped especially if you were to put some bucket seats or lotus elise seats that sit lower than the oem ones. Mind you I’ve never driven an NA but ive seen some 6’4 guys that fit kinda but others that find it too cramped
I'm thinking I'd rather have the 250 horse at the wheel on my NB Miata 1999. So I guess I would have to run the megasquirt correct? And how much drivability would I lose with the 250 horse
Imo, I'd recommend Megasquirt at that power level. Drivability depends on what turbo you get :)
what is the outro song
I Love love love(d) my little Mariner blue yata, but I just can't fit well enough! :(
@John Daley I'm 6'5" I did all the mods to fit, it was okay, but not practical for me :(
@John Daley You think 6'2ish could fit? My friend is importing a Jdm roadster I might buy from him.
@@RCXDerp you can do a foamectimy to the seat, bend the brake handle (not required for RHD), go to a smaller steering wheel, remove the dead pedal, remove the door handle and install a strap, you can modify the pedals if you can weld, and I even took a hammer to the parcel shelf to gain a few more clicks of travel out of the seat back. In the end I did fit marginally, but sort of in the "bear riding a tricycle" category... at 6'2" its manageable if you do the above listed mods
Why I didn't get notified of this, I have no idea... I like cars, not politics... Weird...
What color is this?? is it factory?
Price and performance comparison. How much does this cost compared to a K swap?
K swap is probably closer to $10k. LS swap is closer to $13-15k
Expect to pay around the 10K USD mark for a K swap and about 6k for a turbo setup. However if you want to build a turbo setup that's as reliable as a K swap for track use you will be spending K swap money or more anyway because turbo Miatas tend to struggle in the reliability department on the track.
For a street car I'd probably go with a turbo and for a car that sees regular track use I'd go with a K swap.
That being said at the power level of the Miata in the video it will probably be quite reliable, the problems with reliability are more of an issue with more than 200whp. A stock K24A2 makes about 220-230whp with the parts needed to swap it into a Miata like the Kpower Industries headers, Type S oil pump and Kpower Industries intake manifold.
The K series also weighs less than a BP engine even without a turbo, with a turbo on the BP the weight difference will be even greater
i like how the thumbnail says NA miata and description say turbo lol
NA is the generation code
because the chassis code is NA
First generation=NA
Second generation=NB
Third generation=NC
Fourth generation=ND
They aren't talking about the cars aspiration, they mean that it's a first generation car
@@joedesalvo3316 It's not a chassis code. Chassis code would be the 6A / 6B, so on and so forth. NA is the generation code. 1990-1993 are NA6A, 1994-1997 are NA6B (speaking US market, japan has different dates and codes).
And now you learned your Miata generation codes
Any body notice the NB seats in the NA?
Why does larry wear sleeves all the time?
Masha Allah
Nice Bro......
wait so do you need to get it tuned or not since it comes with an ecu?
No tune necessary unless you want all the horses (then you need a mega squirt or other aftermarket ECU)
I have the voodoo 2 kit on my 1.6: it came with their voodoo box which is basically a “piggy back ECU” (I think is how they describe it). You splice 2-4 wires (depending on the year) from the voodoo box into your ECU wires, I believe it’s the fuel injector signal wires. The voodoo takes input from a boost pressure line and, if my understanding is correct, basically sends signal to give all the fuel to override when the stock ECU would be confused when under boost. This lets the stock ECU handle most all of the functions as intended by Mazda but gives you more fuel when needed under boost.
They do have you dial back the timing a bit from 10° to 4-6° which harms cold start idle in my 1.6. But once warm it’s almost just like stock until you hit boost pressure (slightly less low RPM torque due to pulling back the timing). Under boost it’s good smooth power. If you ease up on the throttle right as it starts making boost sometimes it’s a little jumpy, but staying under or blasting through that transition is super smooth. (This is my experience with my 1.6 at least. I assume there are many variables)
@@BigStreams_ yeah i saw their video on the voodoo box. i was unsure because everybody was buying megasquirts and i wanted to keep it mostly stock
@@graham_lewis cool, yeah upgrading the ECU is totally optional and does not have to be done. If you use the stock ECU you will have to stick with the stock injectors as well, which limits the amount of power you can put out, but it’s still a solid increase in power imo.
Whats music at very end of vid
Man yall can build my 90 1.6
I would not mind at all
Iirc they do installs. Or did?
Did he rly just say rpf1s are uncommon on a Miata those are literally the most popular aftermarket Miata wheels
No he said “pf1s” are uncommon. Those aren’t Rpf1s. Different wheels
Mmmm noice.
I wonder how many engines they've grenaded over time
Over time, I'm sure quite a bit. But BP's are stout little things
does anyone in socal have a front bumper for a NA miata for sale?
anyone peep the sweet dakota in background
Isn't this the "whole enchilada " kit?
That's a kit designed specifically to upgrade components of the factory turbo 2004-05 Mazdaspeed. This is the Stage 1 FM turbo.
did he say 85,000$ miata?
Thats called a porsche
Their shit is so overpriced he's just rolling in the dough.
If this is mazdaspeed imagines on an NA, then there should be rear fender flares.
Who the hell disliked this Miata video?
Mazdaspeed made na miatas, just in really limited numbers and only for japan
Take my money lol
Love the car, cannot STAND the tach like that. Ok ok race cars had it that way but this is not a race car and if it was id still think it was dumb as fuck.
If you’re gonna extend any car, a Miata would be the least likely and functional
new video..18 seconds ago
4:01 I feel like an idiot🤦
$1300 for a miata kit?
Na turbo miata guys? You realize your title and thumbnail dont make sense right?
NA is the generation designation. The next gen is “NB”. It doesn’t stand for naturally aspirated (for Miatas)
CA 🙄
Smoking tire does this format ALOT better... This is such a rip off too...
alot of cringe i did not expect ...
Eh, I'd rather have a Honda k swap than turbo the shitty mazda engine with these overpriced turbo kits. Now, someone just needs to copy the k miata kit and sell if for half the price on ebay like every other kit....
the cutaway clips of the drifting miata are cringe af
