Someone told me the cast commentary of the episode says that this was a mistake. The wiki lists him as born in 1974. Don't quote me on that but I think that makes more sense. Season 2 happens around 2011 which would make Jeff older than 40 by the time GI Jeff happens.

The second you realize this is the genius Brit Marling who created the OA the entire episode changes. Season 2 can't be here quick enough.

BNL did the theme song for BBT, and Community was up against Glee and BBT in terms of programming, so the show made fun of them. Also, I take a lot of what Harmon says with a grain of salt, because he often contradicts himself, and will criticize other shows, then backpedal because he doesn't want to face criticism for it, etc.
Big Bang Theory would beat Community in the ratings despite the fact that Community was a better written show.

apparently jeff is 35 ( he left college at 26, 8yrs of college, then atleast 8 years at a big city law firm thats why he's meant to be so good) and brita is 28 (it was alluded that she spent some years living in new york as well as south america and africa, and briefly backpacking in europe) abed and annie are 19, troy 21, pierce 66, and shirly early 50s. unless they change this later down the line, those were the ages intended.

Britta and Jeff together is a lot more organic and cute, Britta is smart enough to handle him. Annie on the other hand is like a schoolgirl who has a crush on her teacher, him taking advantage of that just comes off as creepy. I get that they're both adults, but as we find out in a later AIDs related episode, Annie is still very much a child and grew up in a bubble, she's very book smart but I think Jeff would hold way too much power in a relationship between them, at least in these earlier seasons.
Basically, the only thing I've ev ever agreed with britta on is that Bare Naked Ladies is a good band
