The yam being about to bloom is reminiscent of how often female victims on this show are discovered to have been pregnant when they were killed. It’s genius that they put that in there too
The actress who played the *medical examiner* is Leslie Hendrix. She also played the M.E. on Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Law & Order: Trial by Jury.
It's Law & Order: the suspect is usually one of the 1st people the detectives talk to in the episode. Dan Harmon nailed all the tropes so hard. He even brought in the show's coroner to play her role. For L&O fans this episode was a dream.
They hit ALL the beats and it seems they actually consulted Dick Wolf AND got the actual medical examiner which was a nice touch. This was my favorite episode.
Some points of interest: 1. The "yam coroner" is the same actress who played the coroner on Law & Order. 2. Starburns is played by Dino Stamatopolous. He is least known for being one of Conan O'brien's writers on late night waaaay back in the '90s.
The scene outside with all the extras, to simulate the streets of New York. There are 2 extras that come out of the black doors in the background. The girl is wiping her mouth and the dude is zipping up his pants. Also when Starburns is asking the girl to make out with him, that's Kendra with a QU from season 2. In the court room scene, Donald Glover looks tired and even covers a yawn. This was due to traveling for Childish Gambino concerts and back for shooting Community.
Nice catch! Qu-endra being a student randomly encountered is just one of the great continuity bits in this series. (Like the Human Being 's image on the pay water fountains.)
This is without a doubt the best episode of Community. There are just so many little things in it that go unappreciated + the whole plot to the episode in general is hilarious. Annie is a hot lawyer.
There is a very small moment when they're taking Pierce's statement in the beginning. As Pierce backtracks on his initial words, Abed gives a sideways look to Troy, half-smiling, almost scoffing. That look is just perfect. If you've seen shows like L&O, then you'll know that that expression is exactly how the investigator reacts in that situation. It's such a great, underrated moment in an episode full of extraordinary moments.
"Dead Yam, big deal, order some ketchup." Makes me lol cuz its like every thug being shown a picture of a victim. "Dead kid, so what, get a deal on a smaller coffin"
The Spider-Man tie is classic since the entire planet wanted Donald to play Spider-Man. Then he got cast in Homecoming as Miles' Uncle. Then in Spider-Verse, Miles' uncle is watching Community on his TV!!!
Annie did the cross-examination of Todd because on LAW & ORDER, there's always the hot, young female ADA(Assistant District Attorney) who does it while the DA, played by Sam Waterson does the closing argument.
@@albimataj4329 I thought the joke was that she was blatantly getting away with bringing up those points, just like how in courtrooms on TV the layman can be confused by the fact that it seems like those points do factor whether they are "objected" to or not. Like when a judge strikes something from the arguments, it still got said so it's still influential. So Annie was saying those things to get the points in people's opinion, immediately withdrawing it cause why does it matter? Especially because it's not a real courtroom.
So many tropes from the show they missed. Like how whenever the cops question someone, they don't stop working and still go about their job! John Mulaney's whole bit about Law & Order is a classic: ruclips.net/video/-HKy4bVKD1w/видео.html
I too used to think of Law & Order the way the Normies did here, but it is actually much better and different than one would expect. NCIS, CSI: (Whatever), Bones, Etc. all are polar opposites of L&O. Even Law & Order: SVU is drastically different from the original. All of those shows are emotional dramas meant to draw an emotional response rather than a study of the mechanics of law. Some good episodes to check out: Season 6.21 Pro Se; Season 15.14 Fluency; Season 5.6 Competence; Season 8.22 Damaged.
Dammmn, Suraj is like the freakin Mentalist up in here. Predicting all these plotlines before they happen! As if I needed more reason to be crushin on the cutie 💘 I also loved Rana's sparkly sweater this episode ✨
7:07 to 7:09 in the background top right. Two extras come out of a room, a man and a woman, the woman wipes her mouth and the man zips up his pants. Take a guess what they were doing in that room.
You guy's have to watch law and order to understand this episode they did a awesome job abed and troy pretending to be those cop's on the show well done the way in the end how starburns died is just the same way some episode's are on the show that's why this was so perfect .
Were professor Cane and Starburns doing a breaking bad thing, cuz Troy talks about catching up on it and I think Starburns approaches Cane about doing a breaking bad thing? Hahaha exactly! I burst out laughing at that
The actress who played the *medical examiner* is Leslie Hendrix. She also played the M.E. on Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Law & Order: Trial by Jury.

This episode is to L&O what Galaxy Quest is to Star Trek.
They nailed all the tropes and the fans adore it.

Dino is also the creator of Moral Orel

@Clem & Lee Yeah, in the episode commentary, Harmon was so pissed that no one caught it.

Dan Harmon mentioned it in the commentary. He wasn't happy about it.

Michael Ironside was the commander dude. He's played tons of military roles.
I love Community so much
My favorite episode of this show and probably in my top 10 ever. Its obvious none the Normies have ever watched a lot of Law & Order.

Right? I was completely geeking out to every trope in the episode.
RIP Prof. Kane.
The story about disarming the IED isn’t irrelevant, he’s building a character profile for the “jury”. Believe me it affects the outcomes.
So...many...tropes... I CAN'T
It’s literal perfection.
I JUST got that Lupine Urology = Dick Wolfe
Definitely one of my favourite episodes.
Aw man, you missed "ALWAYS HAVE AN EXIT STRATEGY!" Annie is so savage
Also love the dance she did before.
