Jeff was not a rich boy. He was a son of a single mother, and he frequented the rec center to play foosball. Not a rich kid.
Wouldve been rich if he was a lawyer still
@@silver6356 Not all lawyers are well paid, depends a lot on what kind of law you go into.
@@kilpta4746 he was about to be made partner at his law firm before his friends ratted him out, so yeah, he would've been rich.
@@sammykent5752 A rich man by suburban Colorado standards, but NOT your stereotypical "rich kid" as they explicitly stated above.
@@kilpta4746 Lawyers seeking to uphold true justice in face of the capitalist Behemoth that limits it in many courts will always be underpaid.
In an interview from one of the Community writers, LeVar Burton actually improvised the line "More fish for Kunta"
Britta wasn't being racist. Levar Burton became famous in 1977 by playing Kunta Kinte in the made for TV miniseries, "Roots". Kunta Kinte was the slave ancestor of Alex Hailey, who wrote the book Roots, about his family history.
Mateo Sid Out of context, it sounds racist
I mean, they instantly thought of why she would say that and researched it after the episode ended. It's not a big deal.
Ugh oh my god. I can't believe there's a real, unironic 'hurr durr PC culture gone mad!' comment here. Calm down Alex Jones and give it a break. The essjews aren't going to harm you.
SJWs are easily triggered, that's in their nature. But the sad part is that some of them believed that the writers could come up with such a lame joke. And that none of them knew about Roots.
@@SCharlesDennicon They aren't really SJWs. They are coincidentally diverse, and laugh at offensive shit all the time.
I replay Troy's breakdown over and over everytime, it's hilarious. I wish they could have taped the 'table read' for this episode. They must have been laughing so hard.
Yvette Nicole Brown (the actress who played shirley) apparently wrote something to the writers asking if their was a reason she was the only one who didn't get a talking head. They thought it was funny she brought this up so they wrote the joke about her using guilt as a weapon.
Pierce did comfort and seem to truly care about Jeff after he was dumped by Slater in the episode, Basic Genealogy. And that was even after he had sex with his ex-step-daughter.
Pierce cares. He's just terrible at showing it and a lot of the time when it shows it's conveyed in the most harmful and misguided ways.
b Yeah but remember how he was raised hated by his own father.
True, but what Pierce did to Jeff in this episode WAS really fucked up, though. Sometimes I can't believe Jeff forgave him for that.
Pierce is a horrible person. He tried to get a depressed person to commit suicide because he wasnt invited to a D&D game.
Pierce has major issues where he tries to test people to see how far their friendships can go, and the group excluding him throughout season 2 and forgetting his birthday made him aggressive and mad
@paula wrong
Just realised that Annie was the only one walking Pierce back to the hospital at the end. Kind of emphasizes why she is Pierce's favourite.
Yikes! You didnt know LeVar portrayed Kunta Kinte? My soul just shed a tear. You needed Chris on this one.
Troy crying is one of the best things about this show lol
ikr
Pierce as a person is horrible but as a Character is one of the funniest on the show.
Valar_Do_Varys He is fantastic and Chevy continues to play him perfectly despite the bts drama. Can’t wait for the finale
At his best, Pierce is THE funniest character on the show
Pierce is the worst
Chevy Chase es Pierce sin dudas
I love how people say PIerce is a horrible person, when he's no worst than any other character.
The only difference between Pierce and all the others, and that Pierce is the only one painted as a villain in different episodes lmao.
Hilarious how y'all eat up that narrative without ANY thought.
In the season 2 DVD commentary, writer Megan Ganz mentions that Shirley's talking head scene (when she was talking to the camera by herself) was added in after Shirley’s actress Yvette Nichole Brown sent her a passive/aggressive email asking for such a scene.
Creator Dan Harmon thought Chevy was funnier as the "Cartman" of the group than as a buffoon. Fans complained Pierce had gone too far this episode and that it was unrealistic that the group would still be friends with him so Harmon had to course correct and come up with a plan to settle Pierce's issues in the season finale.
Mokkari77 wouldn't they have shot the season finale before this episode aired?
This aired in February, while the finale aired in May. That's a three month gap.
Mokkari77 So do they film each episode right before they air? I thought they shoot the whole season before they are broadcasted
Only if it's Netflix.
No. The finale for this season was the paintball episodes and they decided to shoot those episodes last because they would have to destroy the sets with paint and "battle" damage.
Pierce is basically a live-action Cartman. Danny Devito is the same type of character in It's always sunny in Philadelphia, which is the closest live-acton show that's like South Park.
Jac Yo But unlike Chevy Chase, everyone knows Danny Devito is nothing like his character.
@@CreatEr1n I've heard that Chevy is hard to work with and can be a jerk at times, but I've never heard that he's racist or evil.
12:32 Yes he played Kunta Kinte in Roots (1977). I remember they made us watch it in school it was actually a lot more interesting than expected, worth the watch.
Troy: "Set phasers to love meee! *sob sob* LOL!!!
Kunta Kinte is one of his most famous roles. I'm trying to figure out how you guys figured it was offensive without knowing who it was lol.
Ving Rhames
I'm ashamed to say the first I heard of Kunta Kinte was from Dave Chappelle's The Roots skit, so I wasn't sure who played Kunta Kinte but I knew it'd be offensive to call someone that. There's also Kendrick Lamar's King Kunta.
Oh ok, that makes sense. I thought they just thought it was an African name and weren't aware of the name at all.
I always try to square their film school education with their film blind spots in some areas. It's a bit unfair to them cause I'm aware that there is usually a split between film nerds and the film tech nerds in school.
That was a cringe moment when they got all offended lol
That was pretty funny I facepalm'd at that. They would probably be shocked to know OJ is in Roots as well.
Kunta Kinte was a real slave they just might now his story
The imagery and physical comedy with Jeff is perfect this episode:
-The Levar Burton entry after Jeff talks about money.
-Jeff's nervous laugh and breakdown intercut with him warning Abed not to intercut the footage with his talking head.
-Jeff Winger stands underneath the hospital wing.
Pierce divorced so many times and trust nobody. He is an old man and feels left alone. In the episode, Jeff knows Pierce views friendship as a competition. So, as people started ignoring him, he feels envy and has to do something about it. Born in a rich but incomplete family, he doesn't know how to express these things. As he feels friendship is a competition, he has to fight against everyone to become the best. Therefore, he just acts like a jackass and tend to test people's limit.
Also, he has a great arc in the season finale and kinda explained the things he does.
Yall describing Brown Pat as the Pierce of the Normies..... I choked that is such a perfect description
I'm amazed you guys don't know who Levar Burton is?? Wow smh. This was one of my favorite episodes!
Suraj is just sitting back like "Oh yeah, I'm going to cut footage of mickey freaking out" lol
"What do you look like?"
"Not sure, either a drug addict or a male model"
"Wtf send a pic"
*Photo of Pat*
Alchemistic Academician hahahaha
The Roots miniseries is iconic, but not easy viewing. Most 90s kids had to watch it in school while trying not to cry in public. Amazing. This was a great episode and the start of their documentary trilogy (although there are other episodes that could count).
You missed "set phasers to love me"
Wow, everyone's looking fresh af.
With Pierce, he is complicated in that he has always had money but you can tell his dad was abusive. Never showed him love or affection. He grew up without friends or knowing how to make them, and this is the closest thing he has ever had to a family. His actions are still horrendous, and those shouldnt be excused, but this is all the more proof that money can't give you everything in life.
is it me or is Pat getting cuter every damn time we see him?? Oh Pierce, he sucks so bad lol I felt bad for Jeff tbh
As a straight guy...I can agree, Pat is continously becoming more good looking. Lol
LadyVenom Way it's definitely not just you
When I first saw this episode I hadn't seen Roots and admittedly only knew Levar Burton from Star Trek. But Britta's not the type to drop racist lines like what you guys assumed. That was weird how you all got offended by that.
they (especially marketa) are retarded and will jump to take offense lmao wish another channel reacted to community
@@iGaveLiaHIV Yeah I only really like the two brown guys.
@@numbo655 Suraj and mickey seem really cool, the guy on the right (i think his name is pat?) literally never has an original thought while reacting, all he does is repeat the lines the characters say and say "that's funny", hes so out of it i don't know why, like i can't tell if hes not interested or.. because he literally never says anything of value.
@@IamTealeaf Haha yeah he's really quiet. Once in a while he'll say some receptive stuff though, so I suspect he also mostly "gets" the show, he's just not very good at commenting or being on camera I think.
The irony in this trash thread..
Awww I sometimes forget you guys are young. ❤ You should watch Roots though. Set aside 8 hours or so lol
Yall need more black friends. I dont know how you guys didnt know Levar played Kunta. That was his star making role.
Marc Watkins They have two black friends, Chris and Mikey. Also, you honestly don't need to be black to know that Levar played Kunta, it's pretty common knowledge.
Or they could read more books. Or both.
Hyper Dee I bet you those guys would have gotten that joke lol
21:55 The other camera man is Garrett :)
The Normies need to watch the last two episodes in one sitting.
Dude Pat's hair is sexyyyy
Everything about him is!
EVERYTHING!!! O.O
Y'all should watch Roots. Not react to it, just watch it.
definitely dont react to that one, lol. Unless we just want to see awkward faces and crying.
The first acting role that brought Levar Burton to national attention was in Roots, which was a mini-series back in the 70s. He played Kunta Kinte, an African who was brought to the US as a slave.
Which is why Britta said the line about bouncing a check to Kunta Kinte.
Yes indeed. Levar Burton's biggest early role was playing Kunta Kinte in the TV Mini-Series adaptation of Alex Haley's "Roots" in 1977. Later he was well known for Hosting "Reading Rainbow" on PBS. Nowdays he's probably best known for playing Chief Engineer Geordie Laforge on all 7 seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation and the movies that followed.
If you guys haven't watched Roots, you should watch at least once in your life. 😊
Yes, Pierce is a jerk a lot of the time but I never hated him.
Man, I thought it was sad how none of you had seen or even heard of Beast Master, but to have never seen Roots? What a shame
Pat looks like beach Tormund
Pat, you look so good, I don't understand what changed... Haircut? Some tan? The shirt? What's your secret? XD
Damn...no reaction for Lavar?!? Man...guess Star Trek and Reading Rainbow aren't touchstones in the mid 20 to early 30s crowd...
They perfectly illustrated how people get triggered by their own ignorance more often than anything else.
You guys should react to Roots or at least watch it as a group it's amazing
Pierce is very undervalued. I hated him too but I only realized how funny he was when he left.
These guys didnt know Theo from the Cosby Show , they dont know what ROOTS is. I still love these guys, Its no biggie but obviously these guys dont know too much Black TV/Black Movies.
to be fair, some people don't watch the cosby show because it leaves a bad taste in their mouth because of... you know, how much of a shitty person cosby is, but roots is iconic and needs to be experienced, everybody should watch it.
@@IamTealeaf Man miss me with that BS, you dont just forget who Theo is because of the real life Cosby stuff. lol. They clearly never watched it prior to 2015. I dont blame them for never watching it after 2015 but cmon, they had 24 years prior lol
watch Roots.
not even on here, just for yourselves
Pat is the jeff of Normies
Britta for the win
This is one of my favorite episodes. Troy's breakdown is always hilarious. Also, yes Levar Burton played Kunta Kinte in Roots
Just commenting on Pat's hair like everyone else... carry on
LMAO I LOVE HOW MUCH THEY LOVE GARRETT 🤣
SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE CONFIRMED/ANNOUNCED TODAY!!!!!!!! 😃❤️
Well that was embarrassing. Lol. You guys need more than just Chris. 😂😂 Have you never seen Roots in your life?
fun fact, that More fish for Kunta line was ad libbed and cracked everyone up on set
He played Kunta Kinte in “Roots”!
1:30 Did Micky just say "Let's Chang it out"? Instead of "check"?
The cunning warrior attacks neither body nor mind…
THE HEART, PIERCE! WE ATTACK THE HEART!
I watched Roots back in secondary school (in the UK) when we were learning about the slave trade. I’m surprised American schools don’t cover that story tbh.
Where is the Expanse...
Unexpected Pat intro
Damn!! Documentary Now! isn't on Irish Netflix yet!!!!!!!
8:16 well...
Damn Pat!
Yes!!! Thank you, this and your Gravity Falls and Expanse reviews is why I bother to go on RUclips!
Shirley is the worst person. I would choose Pierce or Jeff or even Brita as a friend any day over Shirley. Biggest hypocrite, looks down on everyone constantly, pretends she's not worse than all of them.
plus shes like, racist against muslims and jews
Not to mention guilt tripping
And also a pie pusher
At the first episode Pierce called Annie a princess. I guess giving her that crown has something to do with it
5 people in that room and none of you knew that Levar Burton played Kunta in “Roots”?
Why didn't y'all react to SENSE 8 ?????!
lavar burton actually played Kunta Kinte in Roots.
Does anyone know what shoe's Jeff Winger is wearing in this episode. They have some sort of logo on the bottom? Been trying to find them for the longest time.
Laverne did play the young Kunta Kante in the original roots, thata whybthe joke is funny
I don’t get Shirley’s torture/lesson she was right about them talking behind her back, also I don’t get Britta’s comment. I know it’s tru that she does use guilt, but the tape didn’t really prove the point since their avoidance means they did talk behind her back
None of you knew about Levar Burton but you still just assumed the character who has never been shown to be racist was being racist.... Think before you're offended.
TheLoos3Goos33 yeah that was weird. Britta is the character who’d work double time not to say anything accidentally racist.
@@bpark3726 in fact she'd go so far to not be racist it'd make her seem like shes racist and just holding back.
Kunta kinte is from roots. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with not having seen roots or being familiar with his character. But if you don’t know something, don’t act like you know what you’re talking about and assume offense. That’s pretentious. In this case Britta was more “woke” than y’all
8:15 Damn Pat is a snacc!
you guys seem to be analyzing how to react rather than just watching the show
guys you should react to the bloopers :) greeting from Hungary
damn Pat looks good today.
No puedo creer que no sepan quien es Levar Burton, ni sus papeles como Kunta Kinte o Geordi Laforge
Y'all got so offended by that Kunta Kinte thing when Levar Burton played him
Geordi!
Damn pat
Pop pop.
GARRET
Yes Levar Burton played Kunta Kinte in roots. It's pathetic that you don't even know.
How old are these people? How can live this long and never see roots at least once? Lol
I don't know about them, but I'm 34 and the only context before this episode of Community aired where I'd ever heard the name Kunta Kinte before was a skit on Chappelle's Show.
It was even remade a couple of years ago for their generation.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roots_(2016_miniseries)
ScotiaNova Wilkinson "their generation' boi how old do you think they are 😂 they are all early early 30s or late Late 20s
Which is how old I thought they were, what's wrong with that?
A Generation is what, about 20 years?
Pat is to good looking to be a Normie.
I’m sorry but Pat is rly pretty❤️✨✨💖❤️❤️💕❤️❤️
Pat can easily play Jeff
Mhmmm damn 😍
I would have cash the check then donate half
Pat 😍😍
You guys watch tv without reacting to it?
You know Pierce is a fictional character?
market value is great...i love her, but she needs to get off her high horse.
I. Hate. Pierce.
And so Britta has begun her descent into the worst lol
Pierce is the worst! He doesn’t even have the saving grace of the actor being likable
First
So they're stopping before season 4 right?
bwill123 Why would they?
12:18 because his characters name is Kunte Kinte? Why would that be offensive anyways? Do you really think Brittany watched “Reading Rainbow” or “Star Trek”? Never going to happen. But a story about social justice? Think MAYBE that THAT may have been right up her alley?
Just goes to show, if a white person wants to say something that even sounds remotely racial, people want to jump all over them and freak out when they themselves are not even the least bit familiar with the context (guaranteed Troy saying it and they wouldn’t have even batted an eyelash). But any race other that white, sure just go ahead and drop N bombs with hard R sounds, you’re all “takin’ it back” even though 90% of you aren’t black and those that are tend to often use the slurs in demeaning, derogatory ways and NOT as so many people state, “to refer to my brothers”.
But by all means, let’s have a freak out for a white girl calling a black man by his arguably most notable character contribution to a historical media.
(This is why most people in real positions of authority stopped caring a LOOOONG time ago)
Number one, her name is Britta, not Brittany
Number two, they literally figure out what she was doing at the end of the episode and say “wow, I didn’t know he played him.”
Number three, that version of roots came out 50 years ago, and there has been a remake since, so it is fully understandable that they thought Britta was just mixing up black people, which would seem out of characterisation unless you get the whole context.
@@damonestephens8722 they thought Britta calls random black people Kunte Kinte?
Not that it matters as even if they do think that, it just proves my point that people will jump to conclusions to think something unknown is RACIST rather than actually thinking about it or looking it up.
