It you wonder how Spike is so good in manipulate People, he had a good Teacher: Angelus.
Petty Angel is second only to Dorky Angel in terms of awesome, imo, and “you actually sleep with this guy” combined with that smirk is peak petty. 😂
One of my all time favorite David Boreanaz scenes is him purposely dancing badly and the lady’s expression watching him..
When your ex doesn't like the new guy it's because they're a bit jealous it's not still them - I always feel like "I don't like him" is Angel saying he still loves her without having to actually say it.

Actually, I think Angel likes Riley. Definitely respects him not standing down.
Forget the vampire stuff. Spike's superpower is his ability to weaponize empathy.
He did a Hannibal Lecture: if you can not hurt with Claw's, use you mind and words like a 🔪. Spike is driven by emotion, but he is not stupid.

@asthajindal5275 I see it different, it seems that vampires seem to emphasise a big part of their human existence. Angle was mean, angelus is sadistic, Dru was spiritual then had mind powers. William was a hopeless romantic and spike is all about emotion.

Buffy follows him back to LA.
Buffy goes to LA late in the season, because of Faith.
Angel follows her back to Sunnydale.

I adore this episode and generally remember it as being hilarious, which is odd because it's actually heartbreaking. But also, the Giles love is real. People sometimes say that sarcastic Giles is the best Giles, and I always have to restrain myself from saying no, _drunk_ sarcastic Giles is the best Giles. I mean, we love him for being an awesome father figure and having that voice, but also, what's sexier than a guy who can make us laugh? Giles is just ❤️.
Drunk giles is the funniest scene ever ...makes my day when i see it 😂💗

Buffy seemed happy when she heard that Riley loves her. Understandable as she said that she had found someone she loves to Angel.
Tony Head started out in musical theatre and has been a singer in a band. It's nice that we occasionally see him singing in Buffy.
Possibly the first reactor I've seen who knows who Tony Robbins is. Yay!
Don't forget Spike was trained under Angel/Angelus. Of course he knows his manipulative skill set. Of course, he's less sad little puppy and more bulldog about it.
My favourite characters in the show are by far Spike and Giles and I suspect I am not alone in this after watching yourcreactions.The third place must be for Tara, she is so trully sweet and kind hearted without being annoying

The one thing I always want to say about this episode I cannot say without guaranteeing the reaction viewer and anyone else who reads the comment has seen the next episode. Spike may have f---ed with the Scoobies minds, but I've always assumed that if he didn't they would have gone down the road of fixing the problems that were there. Spike played on issues that were already there, he didn't create the issues. Doesn't give him Spike pass, but I believe he unintentionally opened the door for the Scoobies to talk about what they both didn't notice and/or weren't dealing with.
I don't think I could do sit-ups at Fort Dix. I've heard it can be really hard.
It seems to have become a rite of passage that after watching this episode people watch the FoRiley montage originally made for after show reactions (if she hasn't prompted you). It's pretty epic viewing and personally I think should be required viewing (more than one or two of the actual episodes).

Why didn't Buffy tell Riley about her giving Angel that moment of pure happiness? And while it's not just having sex that gives that moment of happiness, it is the contended feeling afterward when he changed. So it was that moment after sex with someone he loved So Much. Sex still plays a part, or at least sex with Buffy who he loves leads to the pure contented happiness afterward. Talking to your current boyfriend, about the past Great Love, even brushing over the sex part, it's still "We LOVED each other SOOOOOO MUCH".

Because she obviously didn’t want to tell him. And I don’t think she has to, especially not if she’s not ready to talk about it. And seeing how obsessed he became by the whole angel thing maybe it would have been better if he didn’t know.

IMHO, Faith & Spike picked up on the Willow/Tara relationship because they are both much more sexual people, more experienced on picking up on flirty cues, and are more open-minded to relationships that aren’t heteronormative.
@sofie Riley doesn't really understand the mechanics of souls in Buffy canon. The initiative thinks demons are just monsters or animals. The spiritual/magic side of the buffyverse is new to him.
He was paranoid that she just got back from seeing her ex she had a crazy relationship and suddenly he's followed her back.
The very first scene they meet angel has just battered a bunch of soldiers unconscious. And starts talking shit and deliberately being vague “thatd be between me and her” then he savagely beats Riley.
It's less that he doesn't trust buffy to sleep with him and more that he seems evil and the only known way for him to go evil is to have slept with her. He then finds them in her bedroom. He really hasn't known her long and it looks like he he's lost her to the type of monster that's probably killed close friends of his. His panic is understandable.
Buffy also took ages to tell him the story and watered it down which is suspicious.
You are contradicting yourself, saying Riley doesn’t know Buffy that long and also saying Buffy took forever to tell him about her romantic history. If she hasn’t told him yet maybe it’s because she hasn’t trusted him enough yet which he proved her right with his stupid behaviour.

Don’t search about Giles’s music. There could be spoilers if he signs again.
Some interesting parts in this episode, highlights are Angel and Riley acting like jilted teenagers in Buffy's room, and the smug smile Angel gives Riley when she says she needs to talk to Angel alone. Also Giles being drunk and telling Buffy 'you'll get your arse kicked'. Buffy really hurts Willow and Xander when she says 'I guess that's why there is now ancient prophecy of the chosen one and her friends' after all they have done for her. Some excellent work by Spike setting all the friends against each other like a modern day Iago from Othello, there was foreshadowing for this in The Earshot episode when Buffy was reading the students mind re Othello Play. As we approach the end of S4 I have to say of all the Buffy Seasons it is the most disappointing in the closing episodes as opposed to the other Seasons, where the story arc builds towards the final episode. That said, it is still and entertaining episode in not one of the best Buffy Seasons. Giles playing Freebird is of course the highlight.
Willow and Xander hurt Buffy several times, they don't believe in her in this case as in 4x02, dispite she has save them a lot. Buffy is not the villain of the situation, they all are wrong.
@@DaveVampireSlayer Well Xander did actually save her life in Prophecy Girl, where he performed CPR and gave Buffy the kiss of life. Willow also restored Angel's soul in Becoming too. You are right she has saved them a lot, but they also did their part throughout the show. Willow is the most powerful character in the whole series. As you say they are all wrong due to Spike's Machiavellian manipulation, it was interesting to see Buffy admit to Angel she was wrong when confronting him in the Police Station in Sanctuary You episode of Angel.

I hate Riley's reaction in this ep. He thinks he's entitled to freak out just because Angel shows up and behaves like a child. 'Do you actually sleep with this guy??' yes, Buffy, think about it. In the end he doesn't apologize to her, he simply says he loves her too much that he can't think straight. So it's Buffy's fault if he acts like a crazy. I'm glad Angel kicked his ass....
He's explaining why he acted crazy not that it was ok or that it was her fault. The apology is implied by him admitting that what he did was crazy. He accepted her negative definition of his behaviour never defended it or declared to do it again.

@@psychotropicfan Yeah I kind of also got that vibe. Apology was pretty much implied when he admitted he was wrong. Its just the way most of the characters in Buffyverse behave as far as making amends after past screwups is concerned. I am not necessarily saying it should be ok, I personally like a well articulated apology and accountability, but it seems acceptable in that world. Nobody in there really comes right out and says "I am sorry", they just kind of slink back in needing everyone else to be understanding and do better from next time.
Faith and Spike are not evil. They act evilly due to circumstances. At heart they are both very good people. Xander, as usually causing trouble by telling Riley that Buffy had sex with Angel

I really hate xander for telling riley. Setting aside the fact that xander misunderstands why angel lost his soul (the sex rather than the intimacy after) in the first place. Except for what she chooses to share, none of buffy's past relationships are any of riley's business
If you ask Xander to not be a idiot, you ask him to be not Xander anymore. He has his flaws, but like Ron Weasley, he is joyal, true, honest (most of the time) and a Friend that will always be on your side. If you want Friends that Never let you down, you should leave Sunnydale very quickly. It’s a City of Doom. 😁
I liked how Riley didn't back down. He was human yet he kept coming back up. He thought that Angel had lost his soul and didn't want him anywhere near Buffy. Yes it was wrong of him to think anything had happened with Buffy and Angel but paranoia can be powerful, especially when you love the one you're with. It also didn't help when Angel had provoked him by implying that Buffy had betrayed Riley. If he had been passive and stepped aside then I wouldn't have respected him as much.
With the Riley thing you're thinking faaar too much like a girl. He's a jealous dude with a bit of testosterone, faced in front of his girls ex he's not thinking of how loyal buffy is
That is a shitty excuse, and rather toxic. Jealousy is not in any way a positive quality, nor is it "manly".
This and 4x18 'Where the Wild Things Are' I consider to be the 2 worst episodes of the season. Yes I like Anthony's singing, he does that song better than Lynyrd Skynyrd and the humorous bits are good but it's senseless. Why are the Scoobies so insecure, clueless and gullible, especially when the lies are coming from Spike? Why is Angel here at all other than another senseless crossover as in 'Pangs'?
Even Spike's mission to divide the group at the order of Adam turns out wrong and has to be undone in the very next episode? It's idiotic and seems like total filler to me. Only the bits with Forrest and Riley at the end advance the plot, such as it is.
The rest of the season is great, high marks although overall the parts are greater than their sum.

Naw, it was not the sex. He didn't turn instantly upon climax.
It was waking up next to the woman he loved, knowing that she loved him, with the prospect of more such moments, that gave him that moment of pure happiness and contentment, when the guilt for his past actions was absent for just that instant. That is when his soul was ripped away.
