For a writer to react , I would say the most important song to listen to lyrically from Triumph is fight the good fight. Lay it on the line is my favorite to listen to.
I can't remember how I found them exactly but once I did I WORE OUT my Allied Forces tape!! Saw them live at the Rose Bowl opening for BOC and Journey. Rik is such a talent - their lyrics and musicianship is top tier. Lot's of positivity from this power house group!
I LOVE Triumph my fellow Canadians !!! I have been a fan from the beginning and absolutely love them!! Rik Emmett is 🔥🔥🔥 and still going strong!! The drummer was phenomenal! They were only 3 band members for a long time and then added another guitarist later. Some of my fav songs are "Lay It On The Line", "Follow Your Heart", "Fight the Good Fight".
@SaeedReacts. my elder brother won tickets on the radio and took me to the show. Saw both bands multiple times. Thanks for showing some love to Canadian music. Love your reactions. It's fun to see the sense of wonder on reactors' faces seeing the music I grew up with for the first time.
Rik Emmett is the real deal. He's as good as any of the top tier guitarist out there. When you consider his vocal abilities and his song writing skills you realize what a complete package he is. This is a 3 piece band even though you saw a 4th person on stage at this show. Next up try "Lay It On The Line." Make sure to do a live version so you get the full impact. Also, they were known for having a positive message in most of their songs.
That structure around Gil Moore, the drummer, lifts him up off the stage and floats out towards the crowd. All the while Gil is doing his drum solo 10 ft above the stage. Saw Triumph 5 or 6 times. Always the highlight concert of every year they toured.
One of the best songs ever made Amazing trio! Great songs and albums. Awesome musicians “The world is full of compromise And infinite red tape But the music's got the magic It's your one chance for escape”
@@SaeedReacts. I'll even throw you the link. This is an epic performance and really showcases how good of a live band Triumph was. If you didn't see anyone else mention it, Triumph were actually a three piece band, just as Rush. They just had an extra guitarist on stage with them here for the tour you just reacted to, playing rhythm guitar. The three were on fire this day and gave a performance for the ages in front of hundreds of thousands of people at US Festival 1983 - ruclips.net/video/Xevc7-7Tk-Q/видео.html
Now you must watch their performances from the US Festival in 1983. They ruled the Heavy Metal Day of the 3 day festival. Their show was spot on and incredible. Watch the songs Never Surrender, Lay It On The Line, Fight The Good Fight and When The Lights Go Down (sung by drummer Gil Moore) Triumph was always a three piece prior to this tour. They added a second guitarist to fill out the sound. Nothing against Rick Santer, but Triumph were great onstage without him and he wasn’t needed.
One of my favorite bands. His live vocals were incredible. Rik Emmitt is also a hell of a nice guy. Sat and talked to him for aa while in a club in Cincinnati years ago. Try Hold On or Fight the Good Fight next.
They are a three man band and I never understood why the added another member for some shows, as they didn't need it. Check out any song from their performance at the US Festival 1983 - they killed it there!!!
Great , great , great song !!! You keep discovering the real rockers who built great songs musically and lyrically!! This band deserves to be in multiple Halls Of Fame. 🚦🚦🚦🚦🚦🚦🚦🚦🚦🚦🚦🚦🚦🚦
Definitely go down the Triumph rabbit hole! They have some fantastic tracks! My second favorite band from Canada! RUSH being #1. Great analysis and video, Saeed!👍👍😁
Fight The Good Fight is my favorite. Wrote for a relative that was battling cancer. This band has wholesome lyrics while they rock pretty hard. Theres a really good video version from an outdoor venue you can react to. I would be tickled!
This concert was in Halifax Nova Scotia (Metro Center) in January 1987. I was there with my buddies. This was an unbelievable concert by an incredibly underrated band. They were a foursome …usually a threesome at this concert with Rick Santers on guitar and vocals. Triumph was one of the biggest rock acts in the world in the eighties and never got their due as far as I’m concerned. I can still remember this like it was yesterday! Dig in man. Fight the Good Fight, Just a Game, Never Surrender, Young Enough to Cry, Cool Down, Lay it on the Line…….list goes on.
Yeah you want to hear "Fight the Good Fight" If you want a Triumph song with excellent lyrics this would be the song. Rik's inspirations came from his Aunt who was fighting cancer at the time.
Hey Saeed, I was 21yrs old , And at that concert!! OMG, & the pretty ladies at that concert!!💔 Thank-you ,first-time hearing this song in a while LOL, "61yrs old now" Great Reaction video ! 👌👍👍👍👍✌🤘
Triumph use to record at the same recording studio as Rush. It was called Metal Works. One studio was in Mississauga Ontario Canada and the other studio was in Scarborough Ontario just east of Toronto. The studio in Mississauga is closed now. I lived less than 5 miles away from the studio in Mississauga. I've seen Rush and Triumph many times.
Another great Canadian band, nice to see you reacting to it. I love this song. Rik Emmett is a great guitarist and songwriter. They conveyed positive messages, they were a great trio, however I do see another guitarist in this live performance, didn't know they did that. I saw them in 1978 but my memory of that day is a little fragmented now lol. They were headliners with the line-up consisting of 10 bands in total with them playing last. Some other really great songs are: Fight The Good Fight, Hold On, Lay It On The Line and the epic song "The City: War March / El Duende Agonizante / Minstrel's Lament".
Rik Emmett..virtuoso guitarist and Steve Perry level vocals. Geddy can't touch Rik's vocals with a ten foot pole..Rik brings it live. He could sing the 14th fret on the first string of a guitar EVERY night.
In their later years, Triumph added a second guitarist/keyboard player when they played in concert to more closely match the studio version. However, the second guitar player was not really a member of the band. IN this video, you can see him in the shadows. He played the synth intro to this song as well. B ut the focus is clearly on Rik Emmett, guitar and lead vocals, Gil Moore on drums and lead vocals Mike Levine on base and occasionally keyboards.
@SaeedReacts. just listening to this song at 6am has woke me up more than coffee. I'll never forget this song live . It's up there with top concert moments
We all had a love/hate relationship with Rik back in the day. An amazing singer, a great guitarist and a good looking guy. We were like "save some girls for the rest of us Rik".
They were big when I was in high school. A lot of the guys liked them; I was more into New Wave and didn't pay much notice. Little did any of us at school know that their recording studio was only about 2 km away. I certainly would have paid more attention 😂 I don't remember if I even knew they were Canadian. It was a reactor who played Triumph a few months ago, and I thought...my goodness, listen to what I've missed! Rik Emmitt's voice has such range and power, I don't feel one can get the sense with this performance. I'd check out the official video of Lay it on the Line, and the US (us as in we, not the country) Festival recording of Fight the Good Fight, which Rik wrote for his aunt who was battling cancer. They were absolutely on fire at that festival.
@@SaeedReacts. it’s a awesome deep cut off of the thunder seven album, I don’t know if there’s any live footage from it but again, the music alone is outstanding
What is it with the Canadian 3 piece bands? I saw them live in the 80's at the Warfield Theater in SF (I think opening for Thin Lizzie). I'd put their live sound up against any other band I ever saw! (And I saw them all)

I didn’t see any ‘Trafffic’ in your repertoire. The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys has kind of a blues / jazzy sound to it. I know the title of the song sounds weird but it’s something you just have to hear if you never heard it before. Have a great day Saeed.
You MUST MUST see the US Festival performance of "Fight the Good Fight" by Triumph
This is the best band you have never heard of. Deep catalog. Worth the dive.
Absolutely!
Fight the good fight is one of the best

Great song and love the lyrics! Thanks for watching !
Rik is the Guitarist & singer and Rick is the other guitarist who has his own band called Santers. He came on for the tour.

One of my favorite bands ever. Rik Emmett is incredibly talented. Great songs with positive lyrics.
Rik Emmett may be the best combination of lead vocals, lead guitarist, and principle songwriter of all time.
He is phenomenal in all 3 areas
