I was gonna say before even watching your reaction that he knocks it out of the stadium during this performance. The comment that stands out is "how incredibly well-blended his registers are." I had been thinking the same for years, but didn't know how to articulate that observation. His transitions are so natural and effortless, and, at the same time, so surefooted - strident, even. There are so many Triumph Songs that are incredible!! Most of there songs have words of inspiration!!! Something we certainly miss in this day an age. You are so good at breaking down the Vocals and instrumentation!! Here are a few of the songs I would recommend. Magic Power, Follow your Heart, Never Surrender, Somebody's out there, Hold on just to name a few. I promise you you'll not be disappointed!!
I've been listening to their studio stuff off and on for years but hadn't seen stuff from this show until you started reacting to them. What an incredible sound! What I love about this guy, especially being a vocalist who used to grip/pull chest to get to higher stuff, is how effortless all of this is, no neck tension, etc.. all while playing guitar. What a legend.
What makes this band so good that they can actually perform their stuff live to perfection when a lot of bands back then could not pull it off especially in the vocal department ,this band could .
Hi Bethany, thank you for shining the light on Triumph and reminding us how truly great they were. It’s another sad example of record company interference that ultimately ended them. Rik Emmett is an amazing vocalist. But you should also check out drummer Gil Moore’s vocals. He is an amazing singer as well. There’s a wonderful documentary about Triumph on Crave right now if you want to check it out.
So good. And the drummer has a VERY high voice also and manages to do great vox in the back. But also sings lead on some of their songs. Thanks for doing this one. Any Triumph will do.
I'm 62 years old and was an instant fan of these guys when I first heard them in my teen years. I think you should find some of Rik's recent interviews. He seems so effortless, because of his natural voice.
The talent in this band much like Rush, is off the charts. You should react to "Follow Your Heart" where the drummer sings lead and Emmett sings back up.
He really is a decent person and genuinely good guy. When i took my daughter to see the Trifecta tour in 2009 (Oscar Lopez, Pavlo Simtikidis, and Rik Emmett), she was about 5 or 6 at the time, we sat in the front row. It was largely an acoustic set. She wore my Sport of Kings concert jersey and during the performance he is chatty and he pointed out my daughter and said she was the next generation of fans. Rik has been a guitar hero of mine forever and when we went to the lobby we got to chat. I wanted a photo of Lauren and Rik but my daughter ran around Rik and hugged his legs. I was absolutely beside myself. Rik looked at me and calmly said 'it's all good. I have kids too'. Such a really cool dude.
Your first Triumph reaction was the first reaction of yours that watched and I was hooked on you. So happy to see more Triumph. These guys came out when I was in grade 7 so, I grew up with them. Many great songs by these guys and some that were not considered singles I think were should have been. One of my favs called The City: War March/ El Duende Agonizante/Minstrels Lament. Rik Emmett is one amazing musician and Triumph a great band!
Amazing! And this is LIVE!! You know he's an epic singer when it sounds almost identical to the recording. No crazy production, changing his voice, etc
When I first discovered them, I knew it was a discography worth of listening too. Lay It On the Line is one of my all time favourites, his voice is just perfect.
Rik is just super human. What will really blow your mind is when you listen to follow your heart. Vocals by the drummer Gil Moore. In any other band Gil would have been remembered as the best drummer/ lead vocalist ever. There was just too much talent in that group
#TheVocalist I'm so excited you have discovered this band from the 70s and 80s. I was able to see them often growing up and to this day #Rickemmit still has an amazing voice. Thank you. 😊

Rik Emment is active on the web - and appears very healthy and happy. Enjoying family and grandkids. He won awards in the 2000's for best jazz guitarist and was teaching at a college. Something like that, don't quote me. He is and always has been been absolutely incredible. THE GOAT. It would be fun if he see's you analyzing him.
I grew up during these times where prodigies like Triumph was common place . A product of a truely FREE society. Looking at that crowd I see myself and just about everyone I knew. No 70 yrs brings tears to my eyes. Thank you m'aam for your accurate accounting of Rik's God given gift .
I saw Triumph live in 1979. I was a 14 year old kid - front row right up against the barricade - directly in front of Rik Emmett. It was a beautiful experience. BLEW MY MIND.
Bethany..a few thoughts. First off..the smile your face that takes over as soon as that 1st verse starts telegraphs every feeling you are going to have about this performance. It's legendary. Rik Emmett is/was quite literally light years beyond his peers, and for sure on the stage for the weekend festival. By the time they did this they were a well oiled, well rehearsed and slicky produced trio everybit as potent as say Rush. Second, I really enjoy watching reaction videos where you can bring knowledge to the table on someone elses prowess talnet needed to do it. Many people wrote bands off in the day and deemed them as having no talent...guys like Dickinson, Halford, Rik, DIO, Freddie, Geoff Tate, etc, prove all of them wrong. Third...you totally want to sing in Triumph!
Triumph also had the great '86 Canadian AOR radio hit song "Just One Night" which was sung by Gil Moore. In Rik Emmett's solo career after Triumph he has two really good songs on his Absolutely! LP/CD named "Saved By Love" and the real nice love ballad "When A Heart Breaks."

I saw him playing acoustic a few years ago and he was still effortlessly hitting those high notes. Great show!
You should watch the entire show, it is amazing and I have seen them 3 times in there prime including that day.
What makes this band so good that they can actually perform their stuff live to perfection when a lot of bands back then could not pull it off especially in the vocal department ,this band could .
Never Surrender
Song by Triumph
What a great surprise this morning, more Triumph! Great reaction. I felt the same way when I saw them live when I was a kid.
Once again, as a proud Canadian, this band was so underated. It's rare you'd have two very talented lead singer's like this.
Man that was a great concert. I was there that day. Only a teenager. It was so awesome....❤
All that vocal, and playing a guitar at the same time, in control
Hi Bethany, thank you for shining the light on Triumph and reminding us how truly great they were. It’s another sad example of record company interference that ultimately ended them. Rik Emmett is an amazing vocalist. But you should also check out drummer Gil Moore’s vocals. He is an amazing singer as well. There’s a wonderful documentary about Triumph on Crave right now if you want to check it out.
Rick Emmett is a fantastic vocalist. Saw Triumph live in Toronto Canada 🇨🇦 and was epic
So good. And the drummer has a VERY high voice also and manages to do great vox in the back. But also sings lead on some of their songs. Thanks for doing this one. Any Triumph will do.
The drummer has major High tones too!!
Triumph was my jam in high school. They are so good. The musicianship is off the charts and Rik's vocals are sick. Thanks for doing this.
Triumph back here in the 70's
Matagorda Bay
Matagorda County
TEXAS.
Viva los cordones.
Never Surrender is another banger from this concert. I think Rik sings even higher in that one.
Their whole set from the US Festival was near perfect.
Triumph is one of the most under rated bands. Rik Emmett and Gil Moore are both great vocalists. Follow your heart is a great song live as well
Great White as well. seriously under rated.
I'm 62 years old and was an instant fan of these guys when I first heard them in my teen years. I think you should find some of Rik's recent interviews. He seems so effortless, because of his natural voice.
It was the song writing and a three piece band. They should be in the hall of fame
Yes is another band that is on the same level as rush.
Thanks for getting into triumph, such a great and underrated group... so many great songs quite the legacy for rik and the boys....
Great vocalist and an outstanding guitarist to put most to shame
One of my favorite songs from then. They get forgotten but Triumph rocked. Nice reaction. Our musicians were relaxed. They loved what they did.
Gil Moore , the drummer , also sings lead
#TheVocalist I'm so excited you have discovered this band from the 70s and 80s. I was able to see them often growing up and to this day #Rickemmit still has an amazing voice. Thank you. 😊
LAY IT ON THE LINE RELEASD IN 1979
As a old MetalHead from the 80's. You HAD to be good to capture the audience's attention and keep it. Triump did a great job at it.
Had the pleasure of seeing these guys live, awesome show. Check out the studio version to get his true vocal range. You won't be disappointed. Love watching your reaction.
I hear you, brother
This band is so solid. Seen them live and was the best concert I’ve ever attended !
Very cool that you reacted to this. I grew up in the 80s and 90s hearing Triumph on rock radio. Rik Emmett was a great singer back then!
I play drums and I use this song to warmup with... every single time I break at least a pair of sticks.
Triumph and Rush were so popular at this time 1978-84 🇨🇦 ❤🤟 🎸 🎤
EARLY 70s
Triumph also had the great '86 Canadian AOR radio hit song "Just One Night" which was sung by Gil Moore. In Rik Emmett's solo career after Triumph
he has two really good songs on his Absolutely! LP/CD named "Saved By Love" and the real nice love ballad "When A Heart Breaks."
