@@laudanum669Rik is a great writer of music, lyrics, poetry, and his Guitar Player magazine columns were awesome! He was also a teacher at Humber College for over 20 yrs. His latest writing quest is his memoir. A must have for Rik’s fans. Around Feb. 2025, bolo for the release of “Ten Telecaster Tales”. Ten instrumentals and a book that will accompany the cd. Then, at some point, a 2nd poetry book will be released. He is a busy man!! He will turn 71 next week on the 10th. Today marks 48 yrs. married🎉🥂
I’ve sat on panels of music pros at conferences with Rick. He’s not only a gifted musician, he’s extremely intelligent. He’s a fellow Canadian who makes me proud of our musical heritage in this country! Peace
I was at this concert. This was day two of the 1983 US festival Sunday, May 29, Devore, California, the desert of San Bernardino county. I had just turned 17 the week before. The lineup was Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions and Van Halen closed out tonight. I was about 15 people back from the front and for one of the best concerts of my lifetime. 350,000+ metalheads rocking out in the desert. Triumph was the best band that day. heavy metal day had the largest crowd of the weekend by far. The entire set is incredible. Hope to see you react more from this concert. I always enjoy your reactions.👏👏👏👏🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I too was at this concert/ Festival with my water sprayer with the US logo. Staying in a tent and showering behind the truck that was the dust deterrent. Great times I feel old . Triumph was the gold standard for the day.
Hey man I was there that day as well! I was 17 at the time you're right these guys were incredible I thought the Scorpions were equally as good though.
I was at this festival in 1983. I was 21. So many great bands at the time. It was the beginning of the "New Wave" era. Four days of music, in the desert about one hour from my home in San Diego CA. Also four days of around 100 degrees with no trees for shade. They had big fire hoses that they used to spray everyone down with water to cool off. There's a really good documentary about this concert on RUclips.
Always excited for great Canadian bands, Triumph was another great solid trio, the other is Rush, saw them in 1978 (Canada Jam) in Ontario, Canada. I just loved Rik Emmett's voice and his skill on the guitar was outstanding. The other guys were very good too but Rik was the one who stood out for me. Triumph is a must have on my playlist still.
Huge following in Canada was never really matched in the US. Vey talented band, phenomenal vocals. Not as progressive, intricate, or complex as Rush, but then it took Rush many, many years to develop a following outside of Canada.
I was in that crowd that day! It was hotter than hell so they were blasting the crowd with water cannons! The concert line up was awesome! The Glen Helen recreational park was a three day party!
You know when you see a group or an artist live and you can see how they are really just at the limit of their abilities? Triumph right here is the exact opposite of that. They are just having fun with this song and playing around with it.... Almost cocky about it! Triumph rules!
Rik is an amazing guitarist who can play anything from blazing heavy solos to intricate classical and spanish guitar pieces. I also liked the positive messages in most of their songs.
Another great choice! Triumph was a talented trio that played music with positive themes. Hopefully you will get to some of their other great songs such as, Somebody's Out There, Hold On, Fight the Good Fight and Magic Power. All great songs with great messages. Thank you for helping me relive my youth.
Saw these guys four times 78 to 86. Rik Emmett the guitarist is a virtuoso singer and guitarist! Magic Power and Fight rge Good Fight from the same performance. Blinding Light Show/Moonchild studio version.
Judas Priest with "Victim of changes" from the same festival is highly recommended. What a performance of one of the greatest voices in metal. And from Triumph I prefer "Magic power" from this evening. Try it out.
@@MerchantOfAlba Just a little correction, it was the US Festival (as in we) not US as in USA. It was spearheaded by Steve Wozniak of Apple fame. A little backstory, Triumph was accompanied on the trip by noted Canadian VJ, JD Roberts. He is now known as John Roberts and is the chief Fox News anchorman. Also before going on stage, Triumph drummer Gil Moore, met Wozniak and asked him to introduce the band, surprised and flattered the Woz did.
Any song of theirs from this concert is going to be A1 premium. They were on fire this day and put on one of the greatest live performances of their careers, and probably a better show than some bands ever have or ever will. if you want to continue down this path, I'd suggest the song, Never Surrender next. It has an odd cadence to it that is really kind of cool once you catch the groove. It has a great, positive message to it as well. ruclips.net/video/irL4661cpa8/видео.html
Rik Emmett is one of the better guitar players out there. One of the things that made Triumph a little different for the time was that there lyrics were usually a little more positive than other band's lyrics. Hope to see you guys do more Triumph. It's a rabbit hole worth going down.
Thanks for reminding me of my teenage-years with the music of Triumph (still got them on vinyl) ....... it has been a long time since I heard this song. Great band with a phenomenal catalog. Great live band too, but the sound mix here is bad. Way too heavy on the bass and drum. The studio version of this kicks butt! Check out Magic Power, Fight the good fight, Hold on, or Texas Shaker
Triumph never got the recognition and respect they deserve. So many great songs, Their "Allied Forces" and "Never Surrender" albums are fantastic.
Underrated band. Fantastic Trio
Specially Rik Emmett. Famtastic voice and great guitar player
Rik Emmett is also a great Cartoonist. He did cartoons for Hit Parader magazine in the 1980's.

Fight the Good Fight, from this same concert is a great vocal performance
I was there for 3 days and it was amazing. Triumph definitely was a stand out among all the artists.
3 guys who are from Canada. Same with rush. My brother in arm from Canada 🇨🇦 really rock
Their whole US Festival Set was fantastic.
The guitar player is an amazing jazz and classical player as well. “Suite Case Blues” is a great song as well

👏 NOW THATS ANOTHER THREE PIECE HEARTBEAT, FROM CANADA. MORE PLEASE.
ROCK ON 👊🖖
I've always loved Triumph, second best Canadian power trio of all time. (Rush being #1, of course)
A great and under appreciated band. Thanks for the reaction.
Rik Emmett & Triumph, FINALLY GETTING the RECOGNITION they DESERVE!!

This song absolutely just rocks out 🎸
The whole band was amazing.

Love the nod to Rush there in the middle.

Canadian rock gods.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Never Surrender
Rik sounds so good, vocally and musically today as he did then. Try looking him up and see what I mean.

🤘🇨🇦🤘
81 was the year and Tour that I got to see them Live at Summer Jam! They werent Headliners but the stole the Show from 6 or 7 other Big name Bands!
you need to react to Magic Power and Fight the Good Fight from the same concert
Great band, should be in the HOF! Rik Emmett may be the best lead singer/lead guitarist in rock.
Tri umph (Tri um pf) named after the motor cycle and that was named after the win and party for first place in a very difficult win.
I like those frames.😎
Thank you 👍
I was also their all 3days and the 3days for the 1st US Festival
😁🤘🎶

Keep in mind that this was their last song of the set, which is why they added sections to the beginning and end of the song.
Lay it on the line was 2nd or 3rd. Fight the good fight was the last one
Not only can he sing but he knows how to murder a guitar.
Often compared to Rush, Canadian tro, stage show etc, make no mistake, they were not a Rush clone, they stood tall on their own.

What about RUN RUN RUN by Jo Jo Gunne? One hit wonder, a real rocker.
