Canada rocks! 🇨🇦 Rik Emmett on vocals here and not only does he have an amazing voice he is also a classically trained guitarist. Magic Power Fight the Good Fight Ordinary Man Cheers 🇨🇦
So happy you enjoyed Triumph. They were perfectionists. So good live. Rik & Gil’s (drummer) voices are like having cold lemonade on an extremely hot day. I have two suggestions for another Triumph song: Live performances preferably 1. Magic Power Live in Halifax 2. Follow your heart Live in Halifax (Gil Moore-drummer is on lead vocal) Can’t go wrong on either. These guys were definitely special. I hope you have a listen.
Thanks. I'm not gonna tell you to listen to this or check out that. I'm not going to complain about the stopping. I am going to compliment you on inserting your insights and your appreciation of the music. Thanks for all the work putting the channel together and I look forward to your next video. Take care.

Triumph opened the world-renowned METALWORKS Studio in Toronto. Some of your favorite artists and albums were recorded there. The drummer, Gil, still owns it.
This performance is a must see, without the studio tricks but yet out of this world, and what I prefer the most, they add some more structures to the songs, I ain't tired of writing the same thing its so good.
Rick Emmett is a huge talent! And a very smart, well spoken man. I’ve sat on the same “industry professional” panels at music conferences with him, here in Canada , several times. I consider Triumph to be a national music treasure! Peace
Many people agree that their peak and best live performance was at The US Festival 83. So glad I was there to witness history. It can easily be found on YT
One of the greatest bands all time. Gotta give props to Canada 🇨🇦, rush, triumph, Aldo nova, AXE these bands were my 80's. Almost forgot about kim Mitchell loverboy.
They use double necks for these reasons. 1) Versatility in Sound: Allows quick switching between different types of guitars, like a 6-string and a 12-string. 2) Multiple Tunings: Enables different tunings on each neck, facilitating easy transitions. 3) Quick Transitions: Saves time during live performances by eliminating the need to switch guitars mid-song. 4) Wow Factor: Adds impressive visual appeal to the performance. 5) Creative Inspiration: Provides access to multiple guitar types in one instrument, inspiring new musical ideas. 6) Rich Sound: A 12-string neck offers a fuller, more resonant sound. 7) Song Requirements: Some songs are specifically written for the unique sound of a 12-string guitar. 8) Convenience: Enhances the flow of live performances with seamless transitions between different guitar sounds.
I love love love TRIUMPH!!!! Rik Emmett is so phenomenally gifted, well they all are! Rik Emmett is still playing and does a lot of current artistic videos! 🔥🔥🔥
I've only seen 2 Reactors do "R & R Machine"! The Progressive Tempo to the Unusual Climax is Unique to Triumph!!! You THINK it's over then they get Higher..... Then...DAMN!!!
TRIUMPH was part of my early years growing up - LOVE THEM! If you can check out TRIUMPH Live at the US Festival from 1983 and watch them kill it doing Lay It On the Line, Fight the Good Fight and Allied Forces - you will see how good they were live! Lay It On the Line was from the Just A Game album in 1979.
The double necks are generally a 6 string on the bottom neck and a 12 string at the top. Teddy Lee of Rush has a 4 string bass on the top and a 12 string guitar on the bottom.
Some folks have one guitar tuned standard and the other to an alternate tuning, like Drop D, switching it up during the song. You have to have a great bassist in the band to cover for that change, unless they have a double neck bass.
The reason for the double neck is so that when you have a song that changes dynamics, you can go for that angelic, ethereal sound in the beginning on the 12 string, and then get to rocking on the 6 string
Rik Emmet is an amazing guitar player. That double neck guitar is a Yamaha 12 string and 6 string and weighs around 14 lbs. I had one back in the 80s and a very high quality guitar.
Great band! There is another great trio band from Canada, The Tea Party. Their music is darker and quite different, but their talent is just as good. There is a concert in Australia they did, it's on yt, a great performance. Cheers from Canada!
I don’t know if it’s the air conditioning or the vocals but Chills! Triumph are phenomenal. These Canadians can’t get outside due to the cold so they actually learn to play their instruments.
If you really want to be impressed watch the US concert of their performance. From start to finish you will be blown away. They absolutely destroyed every band that played that concert. To me, as a Canadian, he is my number one singer in the world
Little fun fact . The band got their "big break" in the states while playing smaller venues in the San Antonio area for a local station promotion (one of the few US stations that aired them fairly often) . Sammy Hagar backed out of a show , promoted by the same station and promoter and Triumph was asked to fill the bill . The rest is rock history . The drummer , Gil Moore , has an incredible vocal range aswell . Their first 4 albums were their best , IMO . They do an incredible cover of Rocky Mountain Way by Joe Walsh .
This really takes me back to my high school days! Triumph is a great band; they are from Canada and remind me a lot of Rush who are also from Canada. They have a lot of great songs. Rock n Roll Machine and Street fighting man are two that instantly come to mind. You would not regret going down that rabbit hole and checking them out.
Saw them live in '82. They sound that good live. And yes, Rik Emmet is unreal. They are all phenomenal. They were every bit as entertaining to see as their three piece Canadian counterparts- Rush, who I saw twice live.
I have a soft spot for Trios. In the mid and late 70s I saw Triumph 3 times, all in small venues such as the old state theatres or municipal auditoriums. “The Blinding Light Show” is a fun one to see live; not sure how it would be for a reaction video. If you can find a live version of Triumph covering “Rocky Mountain Way” it is a certifiable banger - and the drummer does the lead vocal. Thank you for getting started on Triumph!
A fantastic Canadian Power Trio 🇨🇦🍁🤘🏻 and since I’m Canadian I thought I’d make sure that got said! Saw them for the first time live in 1978. They were awesome…..Rik Emmett - guitar, lead & backing vocals, Mike Levine - bass and backing vocals, Gil Moore - drums, lead & backing vocals. Canada, the king of Power Trios! 😂…..Triumph, Rush, Anvil……
Another Canadian gem! Definitely worth checking out more of their stuff, both studio and live. Rick Emmett has an amazing voice and can make a guitar SANG! Double neck guitars are usually either a 12 string and a 6 string (like this song), OR 2 6 strings but with different tunings so the player can switch between them from song to song, or within the same song such as here
Ah, the immortal year of 1977. More great albums came out that year than any other in history. And this one was no exception. A great album with a working board game inside! This was just one of a string of hits by these mighty Canadians. Little Rik Emmit really cranked it. Love your channel!
Funny that you mentioned the mixing... Gil Moore, the drummer, is the owner of Canada's biggest recording studio - Metalworks Studios, located in Mississauga, Ontario. The studio has been around for over 40 years and has recorded acts such as Drake, Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas, Jonas Brothers and many more. Moore works as the CEO of Metalworks Studios, Metalworks Production Group and Metalworks Institute.
You want to see some Triumph that will blow your mind, go check out their live stuff from the US Festival. IMO one of the best performances - if not the best - of the entire event; the band is absolutely on fire, and Rik's voice is as good live as it is in this vid.
I always jokingly say that Triumph is the "poor man's Rush" but the truth is they are superior musicians with a great catalog, and you should go further down the rabbit hole.
Gil Moore on drums. He is also a singer and does lead vocals on almost half of their catalogue. Songs to check out that feature Gil are; Spellbound, Tear The Roof Off, Young Enough To Cry, American Girls, When The lights Go Down, Nature’s Child, I Live For The Weekend. And many others
Their biggest hit was “Hold On”. I saw them 3 times in Austin, Tx during the late 70s alone. They were bigger in Texas than back in Canada. The rock station here made that song a big hit. Gil Moore is a great drummer and his live drum sound was awesome! I know he played Tama at the time and I think he played the Fiberglass or Phelonic shells. (Concert Toms, of course). Another great singing drummer. The long album version of “Hold On” with the beautiful intro is best, but the short promo video was good too. Canadians brag about Rush - but I think Triumph was better than them live. “Hold On” or “Just A Game”

Rik Emmett on vocals here and not only does he have an amazing voice he is also a classically trained guitarist.
Magic Power
Fight the Good Fight
Ordinary Man
Cheers 🇨🇦
Rik was not classically trained. Self taught.
Same thing with rush. From Canada 🇨🇦
They are from Toronto Canada and from the 80’s awesome band I actually worked with th singer
Extremely talented a 3 man group one of the best rock vocals you will ever hear great lyrics I'll shut up

LOVE THIS BAND I SAW THEM BACK IN 1983 AT THE US FESTIVAL ALONG WITH OVER 300,000 PEOPLE
Check out the US Festival Rik kills it live as well.
This performance is a must see, without the studio tricks but yet out of this world, and what I prefer the most, they add some more structures to the songs, I ain't tired of writing the same thing its so good.
You should hear this singer do this song live! The double neck. One is 12 string acoustic and the other is 6 sting electric
...both electric....
“Fight The Good Fight”, “Say Goodbye” “Magic Power” “Spellbound”
These songs and about 100 others. Very few of their songs would be on a do not listen to list.
Also Somebody's Out There
I am 59 and Triumph was my very first live show when I was 14. Sudbury Arena 1979 ! Saw them 4 times and they were fire !

Rik Emmett is the one singing this one. Gil Moore (drummer) does some lead vocals as well.

Seen them twice in the 70's. Great band. Impressionable teenage drummer back then.
Rik Emmett met him in Cincinnati in the mid 90s after a show at Bogarts. He took the time to chat for about 10 minutes with me and signed my album.
Moonchild/Blinding Light Show is one of my all-time favorites by them.
Rik Emmett is such a talented underrated musician. Killer voice and masterful guitar player
Fight the Good Fight is a must. The US Festival live version!!
Gil Moore.........another criminally underrated drummer and vocalsit
U missed it SONG WAS released in EARLY 1979 The video was filmed in 1983
Gil Moore on top with the high notes.
Triumph: Rock n Roll Machine (Faster than you ever seen), Fight the Good Fight, Magic Power, Never Surrender, so many good ones.

Had like second row in front of them on the progression of power tour. He did his rock and roll machine solo right in front of me.
First hit is still my favorite ... The Kid is Hot Tonight.
My goodness I saw them in 85.... awesomeness
Thunder Seven
Saw them in 86/87 Sports of Kings tour in ATL...they were killer!

The double necks are generally a 6 string on the bottom neck and a 12 string at the top. Teddy Lee of Rush has a 4 string bass on the top and a 12 string guitar on the bottom.
Geddy, not Teddy. (I assume that spell check got you, hahaha.)
Robbie Robertson had a Gibson double neck with a mandolin on the top and a 6 string on the bottom!
Peace
Getty Lee 😊
Some folks have one guitar tuned standard and the other to an alternate tuning, like Drop D, switching it up during the song. You have to have a great bassist in the band to cover for that change, unless they have a double neck bass.
New sub…the amount of great Canadian music is awesome. Glad you finally found one. Triumph rocks

this is a band play through to the studio version definitely not live.
The best analysis of these phenoms yet. Well done.
Really appreciate that! 😁
These three guys are musical geniuses. Please look into Rik Emmett's biography! Truly amazing.
The reason for the double neck is so that when you have a song that changes dynamics, you can go for that angelic, ethereal sound in the beginning on the 12 string, and then get to rocking on the 6 string
Gotcha! Thanks so much!
