Warner Bros. has debuted the first teaser for Todd Phillips' #JokerMovie starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck. The film, set in the 1980s, is an original take on the Clown Prince of Crime and how he came to be. This Elseworlds story allows DC Comics to continue expanding its rich pantheon of cinematic heroes and villains. The opportunities to tease future rivals, like Jim Gordon, Bruce Wayne and other characters from the #Batman mythos are endless.

The trailer starts with him struggling up the stairs in his dreary world of sanity.
It ends with him joyfully descending into colourful madness.
Beautiful visual storytelling.
I know man, visual story telling is amazing
are ya serious??? What the hell is wrong with people... This is garbage
@@antrebel6623 r/WOOOOOSHH
this movie feels like a psychological thriller, not so much a quote-unquote "superhero movie". and i love that.
Idk why but i like DC villains more than DC heroes
Yup a lot of physiology “you guys decide what bad and what’s good”
@@Puekaw630 "physiology is subjective Murray."
At the start, he was struggling up the stairs like he was struggling in life as Arthur Fleck. In the end, he was full of swagger and life as he walks down the stairs (descend into insanity) as the Joker.
Beautiful.
Old joker: made by chemicals
New joker: made by society
This comment: copy paste
It looks like gotham city itself created the joker. They got the villian and hero they deserve.
Went up the stairs a sane man, and down the stairs insane. Great imagery. LOVED IT!
Trailer released on Heath Ledgers birthday. Respect.
I love the fact DC keeps pushing the boundaries of what is considered a comic book film
Yeah in the wrong direction
True, their each comic book movie has different genre
Joaquin Phoneix is, easily, one the best actors in the game right now. Change my mind
Karan Kataria one of the best, and one of the most under appreciated.
joeyvesh13 so true. Her is one of my all time favorite movies. People only know him from gladiator. They forgot all the work he put in for im still here. The man is a brilliant method actor, who becomes the character. A perfect cast for joker
we been knew since he was robbed from his Oscar in 2006.
he’s my favorite (:
Batman's universe is better in a past timeline instead of a modern era with cellphones and internet. That is why Batman had the edge because his tech was on another level.
Agreed! I haven't seen anyone else share this opinion before, but yeah. He belongs in a pseudo-noir setting, the modern Batman takes that basically turn into goth iron man are not great imo
@@ezrawyrd9275 Also Batman's universe feel more immersive than the other DC heros. Maybe because its dark and corrupt. A man taking on gangsters, serial killers and freaks. Then there is the Joker which is one of his ultimate challenges. What made Batman the animated series so good was the villians and the world of Gotham. I hate to say it but when Superman crossed over with Batman it took all that away.
“I work for DC”
*wears Marvel merchandise*
Seems legit
This trailer tapped into the darkness of my soul. Not kidding. This is very deep and intellectual.
What I love about this trailer is that it’s giving us the knowledge that this film will not be a “comic book” movie but more so a deep character study on a mentally ill man driven to madness by the given circumstances around him. The man who goes through this just so happens to be the man who will become The Joker. That’s so cool to me!
I'm starts to appreciate how authentic the new DC films are starting to look. How they have a unique vibe to each film. Loving this
This is a Joker for mature audiences. Ledger had the right idea, but this will be the masterpiece!
Ledger was better lol.
Such a beautiful trailer. Pure demented beauty.
Man idk what Leto was doing with the Bleached skin, the grill and all the tattoos for his joker but this is just proof that if you put the joker in some basic makeup and a suit that pops he can look so damn good man.
Gotham paved the way, with having a Joker without Batman in it. So here we have a Joker movie without Batman, and it looks amazing. The cinematography is stunning, and Joaquin Phoenix is balls deep into this role, so hell yeah, I'm excited.
joaquin phoenix should win an oscar for this performance! Looks absolutely amazing 🃏
One thing I look forward to in this film is the LACK of big action sequences, that’s Heath Ledger Joker, this joker is revolting against a world that’s put him down, commuting random acts of violence on a small scale, leading to others following him, hence why we see the people dressed as clowns also acting violent. I’m so pumped for this
Notice the beginning of the trailer Arthur is walking up stairs and by the end of the trailer, bullied by society, he is walking down stairs as the joker
He is sad going up as Arthur, he is happy going down as the Joker.
That is how you make movies.
Yeah his posture is totally different too
Academy, one small thing. When you bring me out, could you introduce me as Joker?
Nailed that haha
“I used to think my life was a tragedy, now I realise it’s a comedy”
I hope I have this realisation one day
I don't care
Kira Zzz I didn’t ask you if you did
That's called depression
Ashton Howard what are you, my psychiatrist? Because I’m not supposed to see you till Friday
I'm changing schedule to every day now stop taking pills to cure your depression
"all it takes is one bad day to drive a man insane."
Goes up the stair as Arthur🤪 comes down as the Joker🃏
Phoenix thank you for saving this character 🙏
A descension into madness. And note he is happier and the sun is brighter to him when he decends. But bleak as he keeps trying to go up and stay sane
@@larryjake7783 it really is a great touch. He struggles with normality but finds ease with insanity 👌
“Who’s Arthur?”
Not even a minute ago you said you watched the trailer already and work for DC... c’mon man lmao
Judging by how dark and twisted Arthur's downward spiral into the Joker is looking to be in this film, I don't think you will need to worry too much about people being inspired to emulate him. Sure, I saw plenty of kids dressing up as the Joker in my high school after the Dark Knight came out, but I think most of these young people understood that the Joker was fundamentally still a villain, and they just thought he "looked cool" as a villain is all.
He looks like he is going to have a miserable existence in this film, as both Arthur Fleck AND as the Joker, and I doubt most rational people would want to put themselves in his shoes, lol
This might be my favourite trailer of all time. I love the way Phoenix is approaching Joker. I hope he finally gets the Oscar he deserves for this role.
The cinematography is by Lawrence Sher, he's done a few of Phillips' films and he's also doing the cinematography for Godzilla King of the Monsters which also looks stunning.
So far ...
A Masterpiece
One of the best looking movies I've seen in awhile
I was an extra in the movie (filmed the last scene of the movie) and when Joaquin came in to perform the scene I was blown away he’s so good
Commander SG
It’s not that hard to get into a film as an extra, and this is a big one, so it’s not hard to believe. There would be a lot of people walking down streets and stuff.
Commander SG yeah like the guy above me said, it’s not hard at all. Especially if you have some sort of film/theatre background like I do. You literally just send in your info, pictures of yourself, and wait.
Yeah it wasn’t hard to be an extra for this movie. They put an ad out in the papers and I responded. Originally I was supposed to be in the scenes in front of city hall but couldn’t go because I was in Norway at the time. They emailed me again if I was available for the shoots in Newark NJ and I said yeah and filmed some scenes all night.
Luis Luna did you hear his voice while he was in character? Like is it the same as the trailer or did he put on a different voice once he becomes the joker?
Works for dc and has thanos gauntlet on his shirt....."its a small price to pay for salvation "
This movie has Oscar potential
I went from having zero interest in this movie, to it being one of my most anticipated of the year. Probably the biggest 180 degree turn I've taken on a film thanks to a trailer ever.
this film is rated r. it's going to be a hard rated r. it's not going to be for kids.
I saw Heavy Metal when I was 8, kids always find a way. You never saw a rated R movie when you were a kid? Especially when the movie is about your favorite villain in the DC Universe.
@@PuzzleBox83 a hard rated r means it will be going in the direction of nc-17. don't know where exactly this movie will go. i do have guesses. but it will likely have material that average 8 year olds might not fully have an understanding of - like a deep dive into mental illness and psychosis, for example. there are even adults who shy away from these kinds of discussions. this likely isn't going to be campy violence for campy violence sake, like deadpool or horror movies. as the people in the film have been saying, it's going to be a character study film. a tragedy. the violence in it might be depicted in a more serious light. of course, you COULD try to take a child to it, but you might be having to do some explaining about what happened in the film afterwards (to mildly put it).
This film is taking a lot of inspiration from both Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy.
If there's any comic book character that needs an origin story, it HAS to be The Joker! Very much looking forward to this!
Red hood too!
Damn, Adam...your “stairs” comment really hit me. At he beginning of the trailer, he’s trying to be a good person, but trudging up those long steps. Later on, he’s seemingly snapped and is falling/tumbling down some steps. Finally, he is going down the same steps from the first scene, but dancing. Definitely some parallels to his characters psyche. And Hector, you certainly hit on something deep I’ve been mulling since this trailer dropped, but even before, with recent (and even not so recent) events...does this type of character study enable people to act on their violent tendencies, we’re they that unhinged to begin with (my vote), or does it even paint a light on a part of our society that NEEDS addressing and helping and fixing (also my vote), or is it just a film, and one that looks great (also, also my vote lol)
You guys rock, as always, and thank you for both your hype, but your deeper understanding and theorizing, as always 🙂
masamune2984 I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the last shot of the film it would be a perfect symbolic way to show the how he was changed over the course of the story.
In the movie "Falling Down", the main character had this one really bad day that pushed him over the edge; but, he'd been heading in that direction for a while. I like how this movie seems to show how he might have gone in any number of directions inspite of his personal life but we (Society) is responsible for creating Joker... we create our Monsters.
Gil Harrison you forgot your briefcase!
The cinematography is INSANE.
Btw, interesting you said this reminded you of Burton's Batman, because it all points out to the Joker killing the Waynes (yes, that kid is Bruce).
You also bring a good point, Taxi Driver "inspired" a nutjob to shoot the president of the United States, Ledger's Joker "inspired" another nutjob to kill a bunch of people in a movie theather...this might be the perfect storm, I just hope history doesnt repeat itself.
@Selvin Mayes He didn't spoil the movie. A real life person became obsessed after watching Taxi Driver then tried to kill Ronald Reagan.
“We never seen the Arkham hospital before...”
*BOOM* by Joker
Aquaman, Shazam now this. DC is coming back full force... 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Never left. Tbh
well shazam wasn't really good tbh...
@@admiralcoffeemaker6310 You are in the minority in that sentiment my friend.
@Antonio Alameda Those are pre 2017 movies, it's all started with Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Shazam! and now Joker. Don't forget that the first comic book character ever to received an Oscar is belonged to DC, while Marvel never have those award worthy materials.
killing joke-joker moment when he goes on stage???? I would love to see that on the big screen!
Well said. In the killing joke, it shows that both Batman and the Joker experienced and saw the ugliest side of Gotham. But each reacted or made a different decision as a consequence. The Joker decided that values were meaningless and actively sought to destroy them. While Batman fought to uphold them. Both coming from the same place but ultimately being complete opposites. Alan Moore depicting this even more clearly in the Watchmen between the Comedian and Rorschach.
That is why they are called ying and yang...
A movie most people forgot Todd Phillips Directed was “Due Date”. Yes while it’s a comedy it has a short “tragic” scene in it. For example when Zach Galifianakis’s character Ethan was trying to empress RDJ’s character by “acting” but slowly slips into a breakdown of how much he misses his father who had recently passed. Small moments like this make me think Todd Phillips understands a tragic character and further gives me hope that he will deliver with this movie.
I appreciate the guy admitting he already saw the trailer. I watch a lot of these reactions and just assume that people watch them before filming them. Making it not as authentic of a reaction
Man I have no idea what Hector is going on about but this looks AWESOME. The genre needs to keep evolving within it's own genre, like westerns did during their Hollywood heyday, "JOKER" can be that, while still getting the more generic/4 quadrant crowd pleasing fare. With anything, film/tv/novel/comic book just focus on making a SINGULAR good movie, telling a good story with good characters.
And honestly, I'm over the "connected universe" thing. Marvel did it really well, now just get back to telling good stories, no connected crap needed to appease comic book fans. These are films at the end of the day.
Man I hope this movie will be successful.
This is soooo Scorsese-ish...it even has the feel of Taxi Driver. It's like Travis Bickle with clown makeup. Love it!
I have a theory:
The Joker teaches the kid Bruce to smile even when he doesn't fell like smiling to hide the everlasting sadness of his tragedy.
Therefore his alter ego is called "Bruce Wayne", but his sad side, and also real side, is Batman. If Batman kills the Joker, he will be killing what seems to be his close human side.
Hector brought up a good point and conversations to be had in regarding the Joker and glorification of art versus what that art represents. I never thought about it all too much. Once again you homies are awesome! Great reactions and thoughts! Definitely going to hit you all up on Twitter about those thoughts you have about Joker and what he is and represents to you all. There should be a thread on it 💙
This is a character study in insanity
as a fan o psichology this movie is going to be a masterpiece . i love the nuances and that society created such a monster and broke his mind. the music in this trailer is like a murdering ballet
all it takes is one bad day to change a person, doesnt mean fall down the same path, but you will change.
Oscar
Is it me but if this movie looks good as trailer damm. Could be nominated
Kevin Lopez If film like Black Panther can get nominated, anything can be nominated
immaSavage Bruh aye dawg, shut up fool
Kevin Lopez 11 nominations for the Oscars
Joaquin Phoenix...enough said
Surprised you guys didn’t rewind to look at different shots and read what he was writing in the notebook.
I really like how considerate Hector is over this movie and its message. Profound and insightful
I think this will finally get my J man his overdue Oscar.
I think we need to put the Joker history away & accept they are trying something different & a new take on him. I loved it!!! I can't wait for October
And it's not like people *weren't* able to accept "different" before.
Remember how people thought Michael Keaton's Batman would suck? Or how Heath Ledger's Joker would suck? Or how Ben Afleck's Batman would suck?
Basically, people need to give things a chance before just jumping to conclusions, much less the hate train.
@@HalfDemonInuyasha Absolutely agree. I like that this is a different take on him.
I agree with almost everything you guys said . And I think that it only takes one bad day is why it makes the joker the perfect villain for Batman they both had 1 bad day but not every person has the same outlook afterwards
I like how Hector has a marvel shirt on and he works for DC 👏 boi
No one can determine what a person should or shouldn't idealize.
I love how drastically his confidence changed when he was in full get up
You guys deserve One Million Subscribers!!!
It’s got a Taxi Driver feel to it.
When I first heard about the project of a Joker movie I thought "Oh God, why? Please don't".
After this trailer I think "Oh yes please, come on , I need to watch this!".
I smell Oscar noms...
I love the way they had the joker run
Wouldn't it be amazing if Todd Phillips did his own Dark Knight trilogy universe but started out with the villains?
I always saw the Joker as the embodiment of the saying “crossing that line”, and just being the physical creation of the darkness a person can harbor within themselves.
Do you guys know what the movie is rated. I'm hearing it's rated R
It's supposed to be R according to Todd Phillip's.
Bradley Cooper also was one of the producers to this movie
I was looking at Adam’s reaction the most since it’s his first time watching it. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The psychotic break that makes a man just want to watch the world burn.
Don't wanna speak out of turn, but Joaquin Phoenix has the chops to put up a Heath Ledger level performance. Just sayin'.....
Better
@@Dreamlord81 I won't argue that....
The more I see of the concept of this film, the more I'm looking forward to it. We need another take on the character after Leto's performance. Not to knock Jared, I thought he would do well with the material, but it didn't work.
It's not the late 80's fellas, it's set in 1981. Trust me for those that didn't grow up in that era, there's a big difference.
It really is a HUGE difference.
@@aboutthat1440 you can tell these guys are really young, because the 80s didn't really start becoming the 80s until around 83 into 84, that's when things started feeling different to me. Everything before that still felt like the 70s.
@@mjareacts2731 100% true
I waited so long for this one guys.............Thanks guys
I still can’t believe you guys are not at 1 million subscribers yet??
No way does it look like Burton's Batman, if anything it looks more like Taxi Driver, The Exorcist & The French Connection from the 70s.
Yeah, I got the Taxi Driver feel from the cinematography, and a "Falling Down" vibe from what little story we got.
It's a great trailer. I like how it is captured. It's dark but clear and bright. I'm gonna watch this.
I’m really excited for the movie, I have a theory, I think Joker is going to die in the end of the movie, he’s supposed to have followers in the movie so I think one of his followers could potentially become the joker that ends up antagonizing Batman. Especially since Bruce is a child during the film.
that guy on that left was wearing infinity gauntlet t shirt while reacting to a DC movie
SAVAGE..
marvel fan react to dc movie
I left
Just remember, all it takes is just one bad day.
What if this Joker is the one that birthed them all? Notice how alot of people are starting to wear the Joker mask through out the trailer! Heath and Leto could easily be those kids through out the years that pick up the Joker lore .... This might be a very very important movie, going forward!
I was waiting for your reaction guys!
Great reaction...great discussion as always. Thank fellas!!!
Okay, so before this trailer I had zero interest and I only watched this reaction because it was you guys. Now, though, I am all in for Joker, this trailer totally hooked me.
Marvel behind their green screens, DC out on the streets
aquaman, JL, BVS, SS, all cgi heavy
rakesonaplane wonder woman?
Kickinthescience and Wonder woman, shazam has some cgi and its awful
Aquaman called, he wants your comment back.
I like Hannibal, and Scarface, and Punisher, but that doesn't mean I approve what they do... Don't over analyse art, please. It's like saying that people who read Lolita are pedos... Joker looks good and I'm going to spend money on it.
Can't wait for this to come out I've seen the trailer over and over it's dope and gives me chills
Joker seems to be the perfect combination of Burton and Nolan Batman
What if... they manage to make giving Joker a backstory more unsettling than not knowing his past? I really like not knowing where Jokers comes from, but knowing where he comes from and still not fully understanding his mentality... it could be even better.
Well, it's not THE Joker, it's A Joker, so it's not a canon backstory.
This is a movie set in an alternate universe where people know where Joker comes from. I have a theory he's gonna kill the Wayne's and he inadvertently creates Batman instead of it always being the other way around in Batman creating the Joker.
the one thing that called my attention was that at the beginning of the trailer he is said, his posture is like bent and down and then by the end of the trailer he is much more up right and confidend like been the joker is what he was always meant to be!!
When he comes around that corner you can tell it's fucking game on!!! This trailer gives me major chils!
i respect the fact that you were honest about already watching the trailer. even if it seems small it means a lot
This movie reminds me of the movie logan.I say this in the sense that it doesn’t feel like a comic book movie. Its more realistic and dark.I think it doesn’t need to feel like a comic book movie to be good. This movie looks fantastic to me.I love that they made it a man that slowly becomes mad and it just so happens it’s the joker.Instead the other way around.
A mix of taxi driver and Logan vibe
I would love to have a few similar type of scenes all throughout the movie where joker has a sad kind of reaction to,but at the end a call back to that similar scene to which the joker’s reaction is that he madly burst out laughing....roll credits.
Gotham has the villain it derserves.
