      Missed opportunities in Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars. I mean for Revenge of the Sith they could easily have thrown a handful of Victories (plus some Carrack class cruisers, Dreadnought class cruisers ,modified Acclamators and modified Consulars) amongst the Venators in the background of the Battle of Coruscant to give the Republic fleet some diversity comparable to the CIS fleet. Most of the hard work in designing them has already been done by secondary contributors. All Lucasarts film had to do was create official models whether physical minature or digital cgi

    One factor I noticed you overlooked was that the Victory-I/II star destroyers were also much easier to crew and maintain at effective crew levels than the larger and more crew intensive ISD-I/II's. It's also why that most of any newly built vessels for the Crimson Command were Victory SD's. They simply made more sense from a economical standpoint, both on construction materials and shipyard facilities but also from a perspective of getting enough crew to effectively fly them.

They keep talking in the books about how she was a genius commander that was taken note of by Tarkin while in school... and they don't show it. Even if you try and say she was blinded by rage or whatever at the loss of the empire its still not excusable. Had she bothered to get more intelligence on the state of the New Republic and come up with a better plan then: move everyone off a Star Destroyer and throw it at Coruscant... well she could have done major damage.

  • @christopherg2347
    @christopherg2347 3 года назад +1

    This whole concept of the Empire Fracturing into Warlords made perfect sense. Palpatine had selected his command structure so people would try to advance over the dead bodies of their superiors. This did guard against Rebellion from inside the military. Whoever try to rebel, had a dozen knives just waiting for a sigh of disloyalty pointed at his back.
    Yet that also made Operation Cinder nesseasry. There was no way for palpatine to re-form a empire out of the Warlords, if he was not already at the top. Operation Cinder meanwhile selected only the 130% loyal people. Those willing to sterilize their own homeworlds, based on the words of a dead emperor, relayed through droids.
    With those he could spend his time in the unknown reason, bide his time, rebuild his forces, wait for the new Republic and the Jedi to become complacent again.

    Did you ever read The Black Fleet Crisis by Michael P. Kube-McDowell, some excellent detailed Fleet formations and battles in those books.
    I’m sure you know, the Victory Class was created by West End Games based off and repurposed from earlier Ralph McQuarrie art for the Imperial Class.
    The Corporate Sector and even the Hutts bought several mothballed surplus Victories when they were phased out by The Empire in favor of the ISD.

    Thrawn did use the Victories - from older Old Republic era Victories to updated versions as part of his fleets during his campaign against the Rebels.
    Now had Thrawn survived Bilbringi and gained significant territories, I think he'd continue to use the Victory-class and mass produce these with newer upgrades alongside the Imperial-class as part of a new war-time production program in preparation to face the Yuuzhan Vong.

    Honestly I love anything that conforms to a star destroyer design aesthetic. Harrower, Imperial, Venator, Victory, Bellator, Mandator 3, Allegiance, Gladiator etc etc. That being said designing one without the ability to carry even a token fighter complement for perimeter defense is in my eyes a form of design "HERESY!!". The Allegiance is a beauty but I would never even authorize building them until that one point was corrected. Seeing how competently designed fighters just seem to repeatedly bloody the nose of bigger ships with impunity just cemented the need for a minimal countering force. it'd jump from a 7/10 on the cool scale to a 9/10 if it just had a bit of a hangar on it. now what ship rates a 10/10 I.M.O. is the smaller older Victory class. She had fighters, capital grade cannons , onboard ground assault complement, respectably fast hyperdrive, and a rarely seen ability on imperial warships the ability to land on planetary surfaces. the victory was the one I saw as a true jack of all trades master of none type cruiser. the fact there was a guy who made a fleet of them in red metal tickles the inner fanboy something fierce.

    When will you do a video on the Night Hammer? The stealth black Executor Class Star Dreadnought that was customized with expanded hangars that held thousands of TIEs and advanced automation and redundant systems that reduced crew requirement to 100,000 instead of the standard 250,000 as well as advanced modular damage control and hyperspace capable escape pods that allowed the entire 100,000 crew to escape the vessels loss to fight again.
    Especially since you could make use of the model in Thrawn's Revenge.
    Also minor correction, Treuten Teradoc stole command of the Crimson Command from Zsinj when they both went rogue by imprisoning Zsinj's ally Grand Moff Selit and seizing command of the fleet, this started the enmity between them.

    With the ISD being so demanding of resources and manpower to maintain, it would have made more sense to simply design a Mark 3 variant of the Victory for the Empire to use and it would have been a good opportunity to keep the standard design for the most part but in addition, hide the bridge, shield generators and other important assets within the main structure of the ship but oh well. What might have been I guess. The Victory class is truly underrated as all hell.

    #AskEck Way back, you mentioned that, just prior to the Orinda Campaign, the Empire could no longer produce TIE Fighters. This left me with some questions:
    1. Why was this?
    2. What fighters did the Empire use instead?
    3. Did this replacement fighters suck more, less, or as much as TIE FIghters?
    4. Did the Empire resume TIE Fighter production after the signing of the Bastion Accords and/or the Remnant joining the G.A. in the Vong War?
    5. Is there enough about this subject and it is interesting enough to warrant a video?

    • @edwinrosario3849
      @edwinrosario3849 2 года назад

      Alright so not sure if these answers will be received or not but might as well.
      1. They could no longer produce TIE fighters because they could not afford to do so, many of the production facilities under Sienar Fleet Systems had been taken by the New Republic during that time. And it was primarily after the Orinda Campaign when the Empire was reduced to eight "meager" sectors of the galaxy where this occurred. Their sole main shipyard, Yaga Minor, could not keep up with demand for starfighters, let alone capital ships which shows just how much of a bind the Empire was in during that time.
      2. The Empire primarily used the Preybird-class starfighter which was originally designed by SoroSuub Corporation but it had never reached mass production due to overbudget costs. A few prototypes of this ship was stolen or sold off before ending up in the hands of pirates which were producing the Preybird at reduced cost and selling them to the Empire.
      3. The Preybird-class starfighter was considered a decent snubfighter and served the role of a main fighter adequately during that time. It was decently armed, armored, and shielded for such a craft, though Pellaeon was pragmatic enough to accept the fighter, it lacked the Imperial symbolism that he loved.
      4. After the Pellaeon-Gavrisom Treaty that ended the Galactic Civil War, the Empire managed to stabilize itself and, in time, would create a new form of TIE fighter known as the TIE Starhunter or just Starhunter. This was an evolution of the TIE Interceptor that was equipped with shields, heavy weapons such as missiles, and, most importantly, was shielded. These starfighters would primarily see use in the Second Galactic Civil War during the battle of Nickle One though they were likely at the Second Battle of Fondor and the Battle of Uroro Station.

    The idea of naming a something as relatively small as a Victory Class the Admiral Ackbar seems disrespectful to Ackbar.

    • @lenkagamine4145
      @lenkagamine4145 3 года назад

      well
      victory's are more than three times longer than a Yamato class battleship
      then also way more bulky relative to their length even, so practically speaking probably like 50 times larger than the largest battleship we've ever made. Maybe more.
      So calling them 'relatively small' seems kinda insulting to the Victory. Bigger than a recusant, bigger than a Munificent, bigger than most freighters. Bigger than a dreadnought heavy cruiser, or a quasar fire, or an Assault Frigate. Bigger than mostly anything that isnt Imperial or Mon Calamari really.
