thank you soooo sooo much for posting this. My friend has an older Terrova with no BT and I just bought the new one and we couldn't get it to keep working good while trolling for salmon. This definitely fixs my issue. Thanks!

First time in my boat last night, thought I was losing my mind. Been using an old auto pilot for a decade, hit auto pilot last night and it did just that motor went nuts and I’m drifting backwards in a river trying to hold a track.

Great info man. I troll for trout and this is going to help being in Legacy mode.
Wish I would have seen this last year. Learned about the two modes the hard way pulling 6-8 lines 1.6 MPH while crankbaiting for crappie. Advanced is decent on a calm day but a strong crosswind would make a mess. Switched to legacy and it's night and day better.
You would think there would be more infor from minn kota.
Excellent video. I just replaced my old '04 Auto-Pilot with a new i-Pilot w/remote....unfortunately Minnkota doesn't give you very good explanations of the remote control "in the box". Heading to our annual Minnesota fishing trip in 10 day and now I at least know to get it into "legacy mode" and how to do it. We do a lot of "long line" trolling. You can't believe how glad I am I found your video. Thank You!!!!

Great explanation!! I just got my new-to-me rig ready to try this catfishin' gig and was havin a time rasslin the Terrova.. This lil block of instruction will help with that I'm sure.

Great info - only works with Legacy (compass) on my light boat. With GPS (Advanced Mode) the boat goes extreme snake line.
No idea what I can do about it.

The older models where u hold down the N button was okay on advance but my new terova is like yours on advance mode thats strange but i found out the hard way too
I cant wait to get home and check this because my motor acts like its in advanced mode and Im always fighting it while dragging baits!

Spot lock needs something to work against like wind or current. You can spot lock on still water but your boat will likely spin in circles. Anything in particular you wanna see?

Absolutely
To clarify, I have a 2020 Riptide Ulterra, 112#, 36V. When I use Spot Lock on Advanced mode, the TM head constantly adjusts left and right, especially in calmer conditions with little current. Yes it holds well but the constant 25-90 degree head rotation is irritating and seemingly unnecessary. If I switch to Legacy mode and use Spot Lock---will all of this head rotation and adjusting stop? I'm talking Spot Lock only. Thank You.
We noticed the biggest difference with itracks but it would be easy enough to try. Spotlock is tough in still conditions in general though
I saw a RUclips video that showed the problem using Advanced Mode vs Legacy mode is the AM depends on a connection to a satellite and the LM is using direction NOT from a satellite. So since you're boat is in your garage for the demo (like it would be under a bridge in a lake), the the AM has trouble connecting to the Satellite if it can connect at all. For example, using spot lock in AM under a bridge (or your garage) it doesn't know exactly where the boat is. So it's constantly moving/searching. Does that make sense?
That very well could be true as well. This biggest difference though is how the boat react when it loses its line in the 2 different modes

I'm guessing this is for Terrovas only? I have 2016-17 Ulterra w/out Link. My remote looks similar to yours but doesn't have "home" button like yours? Instructions does say I have Advanced AutoPilot AND AutoPilot, to engage Advanced AP press button once, to engage only AP press and hold button for 2 seconds? Do you think this is "legacy" mode? Thanks
Im really not sure on that one, i would imagine all ipilots would be the same unless your is a different version year wise. We bought ours last year

Its funny because one of the reasons I upgraded to the new one was the advanced mode.
It may have its applications, but I dont like it

Yes
Advanced I find uses more battery juice to keep correcting the course. Eh legacy works just fine
Yea we were dissapointed with the motor until we figured it out. They can keep their advanced.

Do you know what the default setting is with the micro remote? I’m looking to upgrade my powerdrive to I pilot but I really don’t want that big remote, because I lose the foot pedal with the upgrade. Thx
Honestly Im not sure. Ours was defailted to advanced and will sometimes default back. I would try to get that big remote if possible. Even if you have to pay up to get the foot pedal. The big remote opens up alot of options the best I can tell

Keep making videos that makes it a little bit simpler I got a brand new one haven't even hit the water yet and I'm still playing with the remote trying to figure out where I how it works so it's a different ball game when you're playing with something like this it's not a regular trolling motor
