After having an Ultrex for a few years, this will be helpful as a reminder to check my settings to be sure I'm getting the best performance from my unit. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the info. I’ve been trying to figure out why my Ultrex wasn’t doing what I thought it should for the money it cost. Tried everything but not much luck. Called Minn Kota a couple times about it and talked with a desk guy and no luck. I’ve been sick after spending all that money and had rather have my regular trolling motor. I’m going to try these settings as soon as I get back to the water. Thanks again.🎣🎣🎣🎣
Thank you so much for the advice, I have fighting my trolling motor since I’ve had. I have called Minn-Kota many times and all I got is try this try that to no avail. I went fishing today and set all four settings and it worked perfectly Thank you so much.
I just put an ultrex on my bass boat. It has the micro remote so there is no option to calibrate the heading sensor. Supposedly it’s built into the head unit of the trolling motor. Mine does seem to take 10 seconds or so to lock in to the spot where I’ve activated spot lock
Not sure if is a problem for others but when you say hit the Plus button you are hitting the check button. Maybe it is just me. Thanks for your time to do this video though.
I think it worked?! I made the change from Advance to Legacy and Boat Scale from -1 to -2. Calibration was already done. I did notice a more calmer, relaxed Ultrex trolling motor today. Thank you for the tips!
You have any advice to fix problems with iTrack with a Terrova? I record a track, then when I try to troll the track, my trolling motor goes crazy turning left to right like it can’t pick up the course most of the time. I always try to position my boat facing the course and be very close to where it starts.
Great vid. I've done everything but the keel centering. Curious to see if it will improve things. Boat scale was a game changer when I figured it out a couple years back. What LS mount is that? Thanks.
Hi. i have minn kota micro powerdrive. Do you know how to calibrate the device? the device does not have an on-screen remote control. and I can't find instructions for it in the phone application either. big problem.
?? I don't know much about the Powerdrive. Is it blue- toothed to your phone? If so you should be able to find the home screen and then navigate to boat scale.
I did not read all comment for my question: RE: ULTERRA RIPTIDE 112#, 22.6' COMPOSITE BAY BOAT ---"What is "BOAT SCALE" for----your reference was was a setting for aluminum boat ...what determines t hat setting???
The higher the boat scale, the bigger/heavier Minn Kota assumes your boat is. The result is that the higher scale will put more power/speed into correcting your position, which can make the boat very jerky if set too high. If you want a slow, smooth correction try a lower setting but if it just won’t stay on the spot then try increasing boat scale. I have 16.5 ft Alumacraft and use -2.
@@wildlifeadventures-13 I have adjusted the boat scale to -2 before and it does slow down the movement of the boat but the spotlock never holds me anywhere near the spot. Most of the time when I hit the spot lock the motor will take off in some random direction and then over correct when it tries to come back to the spot. I have never been so disappointed in such an expensive purchase.
Make all the changes I talk about. Is there any thing blocking the gps signal, like a 12” live scope screen? I have to keep my unit a little lower on the mount to help with that .
Recap: 1. Set Spot-Lock Options to Legacy. Reset Calibration and Reset (from menu) - drive boat in two complete circles. 3. Perform Sensor Offset (Where is Center of Boat); System; Sensor Offset (improves spot lock sensitivity). 4. Boat Scale: System; Boat Scale; + to choose (Alluminum boat is -2).
Your description about legacy autopilot vs advanced is not accurate. Legacy only corrects your heading for the wind. If you are trolling parallel to a shore with an onshore wind, you will be blown into shore. Advanced will correct your track over the ground so in the same situation you will keep your distance from shore.
Advanced will try to get you back to your previous course between two points -- an absolute nightmare for trolling. Legacy is the only way to go. If you're getting blown to shore, get more motor. I have yet to hit the Lake Michigan shoreline trolling on Legacy mode, but I have had a spread fouled by the stupidity of advanced trying to get back to an imaginary line.
I’m running an 80 pound Terrova on a 22’ bay boat on Lake Michigan. When fishing shallow, the Terrova is way too overpowered on SpotLock so I’m going to try legacy mode and maybe dial down boat scale a bit and see how it goes. My most important issue is STEALTH. I truly wish MinnKota had a stealth spotlock mode that only gradually corrected with low power. I use my PowerPoles more just because SpotLock is so non-stealthy.
With all do respect, let me correct you. Legacy mode will always go to the heading that you locked the unit too so if you drift off, it’s gonna keep going that direction straight line back to that heading advanced has a course and heading and it’s going to keep you on course for that heading so that way you only use one line to the destination. For legacy , as you drift, a new line is created to that point if that makes sense. One thing you didn’t is truly the most important when it comes to your head swinging back and forth the most is the scale option. If you’re in a really tiny boat and your scale is too high that is for compensation because the unit thinks you have a bigger boat and you need to turn down that scale so it doesn’t overthrust when trying to correct itself. Overthrust will cause this action get worse and worse because it shoots off course then has to thrust hard to come back.
Very misleading. 3 of your 4 tips have NOTHING to do with spotlock accuracy. Autopilot mode doesn't have anything remotely to do with spot lock at all to start with. Compass callibration and Offset also don't affect spotlock accuracy in the least. They are for the jog feature. They won't make your basic spotlock any more or less accurate in any way.
Compass calibration has everything to do with spot lock bud. The spot lock runs off gps. Without proper compass calibration your spot lock won’t know where it’s at. That’s how never u hot spot lock it will turn your boat to face into the wind. Try again
@@wildlifeadventures-13 thank you for the great video and the reply. I’ll get me a request for a different remote. I’ve got to get my spot lock better because it goes bad crazy now.

After watching your video I went to the lake and did all these steps and now it works perfectly. Thank you.
