Just got my new terrova today. Have not installed it yet. Your video was a big help getting me ready to use it. Thank you very much for the demo. Very informative.
Set you lock a course and use cruise control at the same time Point the bow toward a heading you want to stay on and set autopilot then use cruise to set at 1.1 MPH Thanks for the very informative video
@bayoubanditcharters I'm confused on the difference between Drift Mode and Locked Course. Is it just that in Drift Mode you can specify a MPH over ground and in Locked Course you can only control prop speed?
I just got mine and am going to get it installed next Monday. I'm really excited about this motor. I haven't had a boat for 25 years when I lived in Florida. When I lived there, I bought a Minn Kota with Auto Pilot and LOVED it! When I got my boat here in South Alabama, I wanted to get another Auto Pilot one and found that it has come a long way!! I might not use every feature on this one, but I do look forward to learning it so I can try it out. Thanks for your video, it was very informative.
Had a blast Thursday night bow fishing. It was a pleasure finally meeting you like I said I felt like I already knew you lol. Todd and I are already talking about our next trip! As always.. Tight lines from Fowl River!
Just bought one today and having it installed. Look forward to using it this weekend in Southern Louisiana. Saved me a lot of time reading the manual. Thanks for the great video.
As of today Thursday 31 October 2024 this is still the only one water video explaining this remote. I have just bought this product in Australia almost 9000 miles or 14000 kilometres away. Minn Kota should be paying you thousand of dollars a month good sir! In fact the model I have does not even need the puck due to an increase in technology in the head unit somehow. So Mr Kota has released two version of 12v Terrova since the big angular chunky remote and I have to watch a guy in the Bayous (what the heck are Bayous anyway?) while sweating in hot tropical mangroves in the southern hemisphere Christmas season summer to see somebody using the new drift mode! Shame on Mr Kota but bravo to you sir.
Lol, thanks brother for your comment! A bayou is what we call saltwater or brackish water creeks in our marsh systems. You can see them named as such on Google maps in our area along the Alabama and Mississippi gulf coast. This trolling motor is still working flawlessly and in still using the original batteries in the remote! Thanks again “mate” from watching and commenting!
We have creeks, rivers and the big blue bit that goes around the outside. Your bayous look like the tidal influence never leaves you high and dry. If you tried to drive one of those big fan boats around our mangroves at a hundred miles an hour one day you’d come around a corner, the boat would stop and all its occupants would be deposited several hundred feet away.
Ive been using this minnkota in islamorada and all the features work very well. My only complaint is the weight of the remote. It feels like a brick hanging from my neck. The old remote was a lot lighter. Thanks for the video tutorial
I just got one of these and had no idea about how to use all the controls. Your explanation was fantastic and really informative. Thanks for putting this out there!
Very simple and informative, thanks for the video. Will be taking my trolling motor out for the first time the fist week of April, can’t wait. Coming at you from Nj
I am trying out my new Terrova 80 tomorrow. Thank you for a great explanation on how to use the features. I use a Lowrance Elite 7 HD so I cant use all the features. but Spot Lock, Jog, and Cruise Control will make fishing so much easier for me. Thanks again! 👍

Finally, I got to play with the new Terrova today. Your video was rather handy as the instructions sent with motor were rather useless other than the remote instructions
You did a great job explaining the features and demonstrating the remote. If your in Drift Mode & want to Spot Lockor deviate the course, you can then resume a new course? I.e. fishing down a long bank.
Great Video! I just bought my motor a week ago. This video was extremely helpful. Does the trollingmotor have to be deployed to use tracking mode? If your using the big motor for power during the track
Thanks for the video. I just got my Riptide Quest Instinct 87" installed on my offshore boat and need to test it out. I wasn't clear on how you set the desired speed for SOG. I will watch again to try and pick that up.
Great video. Thanks so much for making it. It was so much help with set-up and using the different features. If I had your address I would send you a Christmas card. This is my first remote control trolling motor. I took it out for setup a couple days ago. After one trip I am so glad I got it. The difference between it and my old Minn Kota foot control is about like going from a Ford Pinto to a Cadillac. Your video had a lot to do with it. Thanks again brother. Do you guide?
Hello, love the review my only question is I thought the heading sensor is built into the unit? I can’t find anywhere that you need to use the puck. Please clarify for me before I purchase thanks!
To my understanding, the advanced GPS unit does have a heading sensor in the head unit. It comes with the puck in the box, which needs to be installed for more precise location acracy.

Press and hold for a couple of seconds until the light changes colors, then release the button on the puck which will put it in pair mode, then go to the trolling motor and press the pair button. they do not have to be pressed at the same exact time. The directions for pairing are in the manual.

Very nice informative video, being new to this. I had the dealer install this when recently purchasing my boat and have yet to slash it (right around the corner). Only 1/3rd into the Terrova manual, after viewing this video I now feel I have gained most of the info I need, except a couple things. I have the Terrova Quest with Chirp model: 1. I don't think mine came with a "puck" is that an option? And is it a "must have" option to be accurate with navigating? I don't remember the Dealer showing me this nor does it look like it was listed as "contents within package" inside my manual. 2. If you're Vertical jigging in a strong current river trying to keep your fishing line straight going with the current. Is it better to experiment with "Cruise control" or "Drift"? And if you chose Drift, do you point to landmark upstream or downstream? Thanks for the taking time to produce this video.
Thanks brother! Mine came with the puck in the box, so I'm not sure with the different models? I would use Drift mode pointed upstream and set your speed over ground to the desired drift you want. Drift mode combines auto-pilot and cruise control into one mode.
@@bayoubanditcharters Thanks, yeah I ended up looking at the "puck" manual online it stated, "*Not applicable with QUEST series trolling motors which feature an internal heading sensor." Being I have a Quest model that solves my mystery; Thanks again.
Thanks. I had one question. If there is no wind or breeze does this effect the spot lock? It seems it works better with the wind then not any wind? Or am I doing something wrong.
I purchased one the other day and installed it. Can’t wait to try it out and learn more about it. Question do you have to have hummingbird fishfinder to drift and follow Shoreline as you were speaking also Cruise?
Thanks for the video. I see that the power head direction indicator is not working properly (and didn't seem to be when you first mentioned it). What you referred to as the foot of the trolling motor on the screen. When you were in drift mode, at about 9:52 in the video, your motor is pointing forward but the power head direction indicator on your remote is pointing in the opposite direction. And, when you were showing the cruise control function. Tried my new powerdrive today. The actual trolling motor was pointing forward. The power head direction indicator kept going in circles. . . Sheese. And, would not calibrate for the keel offset, no way, no how. Called Minn-Kota and they seemed lost and want to send me the puck (that I really don't want to use, ad it only adds jog) to see if that will correct the issues. . . For $2,500 you'd think. . .
I'm having the exact same problem. MY TM is slightly offset on the port bow and I'm NOT using a puck. The image of the TM on my remote is not the same position as my actual TM.
What does th3 quick #2 button do? #1 is drift, #3 is record track. Also the button above the power button being One Boat Network, how does that function or work? This would be a good follow-up video
Can you plug a foot controller into this new Riptide Terrova? Also, I have a Humminbird networking model at my counsel running a transducer off the back. How do I connect this Terrova to the Humminbird unit?
Question: Can I use this New Advanced GPS Remote with a Minn Kota Ulterra iPilot or do I need an i-Link trolling motor to be able to use this remote? Please advise. Thank you.
I'm about to pull the trigger on a new Powerdrive Advanced GPS. Is there any advantage to simply getting the micro remote and using either the One Boat or the Minn Kota app to use some of the advanced features? Or should I just pay for the advanced remote and get it over with? Very informative video and perfectly explained. I;ll be visiting more often....
curious if drift mode, follow contour or follow track can go below .5mph I like to drift slow and jig at .2 or .3mph but seems like legacy units have trouble doing that getting much below .5mph
Absolutely! That’s what I do when fishing creeks with wind pushing me from behind. The trolling motor will spin around and slow down your boat speed. It works awesome!
Wow, drift mode looks excellent. I am a walleye fisherman and trying to drift in goofy, variable winds is a nightmare. I just got mine mounted and will give it a trial on the water in a couple of days. Just to be sure - does drift mode require a hummin bird? The manual isn't too clear on what features need the depth finder. Thanks for the great video!
Excellent and informative video… thanks from a new subscriber. I just installed my new adv nav Terrova. I put the puck on the bow centerline. I did install next to motor. I know in the past this was frowned upon…
Thank you for posting this. Hopefully someone can help solve my question because minn-kota hasn't been able to. I have a Riptide Powerdrive TM with the advanced GPS remote. I'm using this on a 15 foot Jon boat. The TM is mounted in the "guide position (i.e. offset on port bow) and I do NOT have a heading sensor. My issue is that the image of the TM on the remote does not match the actual position of the TM. I'm assuming that may be due to how the TM is mounted. think this is impacting my use of spot lock, autopilot and drift mode. Any thoughts? THANK YOU!
@@bayoubanditcharters Thanks for replying. I have a 2024 model - supposedly the heading sensor is only needed for the jog feature. I posed the question to minnkota - still waiting for an answer... PS - they should post your video, and also post the answer to the question everyone is asking about the difference between Autopilot Locked Course and Drift! Thanks again.
@@bayoubanditcharters Here's what Minnkota said "A: Thank you for your question regarding Minn Kota products. Riptide Powerdrive models do not include external heading sensors out of the box, but one can be added be added if desiring its associated features. The heading sensor enables the use of the jog feature as well accurate use of the motor direction icon on the Advanced GPS remote. " Seems to me that they should either disclose that you need the heading sensor for the motor direction icon on your remote to work, or include a sensor with the TM. Pretty frustrating to find this out after the TM was installed during the boat build. Thanks again for your video!
Hey thanks for the video. Very informative. It's strange nobody else have made any review or anything about the motor. I am going to by a terrova soon, and i can see here i denmark that the old model is being sold out now, so i guess the new model is on the way. Do you know if there are any differences between the new and old motor? Is it only the remote and software there a new?
Thanks for the answer. I heard that the lift assist was removed from the new model. Maybe it was a weak point on the old model. Well it looks great and very simple to use with the new remote layout. I think i will buy that one.
36v. I run Ionic lithium batteries so I can fish all day long, then run a 5 hour flounder gigging charter and still have about 40% battery left! The original Remote battery still says full charge
Actually they are pretty reasonable considering the 11 year warranty, maintenance free, twice the power of lead acid, fast charge times, and weighing only 30lb each. It’s definitely what I need for running my charter trips!
@@bayoubanditcharters wow 11 years that’s really good. I mostly troll, I have a 8 horse kicker on my tracker and I was thinking of getting that setup to help steer, use the kicker for speed and then the minn kota to steer .. you think it would be good for that ?
It has one built into the head unit, but for some functions like drift mode, it needs the puck for a second reference point to know the position of the boat in relation to the head unit.
hi ... you go to spot Lock ... How to set the speed on remote control....my speed ist automatically fast on 10 ...that ist to fast....i don't now.....kann you help
You don’t. Slow your boat down until you are basically stopped, then hit spot lock. If you hit spot lock while moving fast, I’ll will try to get back to that exact point as fast as it can. So yes, it will be on 10 until it gets to the spot where you hit the button. Only then will it settle down and hold the position
This is the worst feature of the Terrova. I have the model before this one (salt version) and I fish very shallow places where I need to be super stealthy. But spot lock has no “GO EASY” mode so you almost always get that big surge that yells at all the fish. I’ve talked to MinnKota about it and am hoping they release a software update that allows a “soft” mode for Spot Lock.
Still don't understand the difference between autopilot and drift mode. Seems like the same thing. For example I use autopilot (locked course) with cruise control. What's the difference between that and drift?
The difference I have found is that in drift mode if you are fishing with the wind and the wind is blowing faster than your set speed it will turn 180 and slow you down. Mine will not do that in locked course with cruise control
I learned today that my Terrova 2024 Advanced GPS does not need a heading sensor like the one shown at 1:18. No wonder why I couldn't get it to pair with the trolling motor! It isn't supposed to have one!
Well mine came with the heading sensor in the box with the trolling motor. I followed the instructions provided with the trolling motor and paired the puck with no issues?
Love your vid, I subscribed! Like you said, there are no videos out on Advanced GPS and hardly any forums or websites with any info explaining the change from iPilot link. There is going to be a lot of confusion, I know I'm not going to be the only one. But the Minn Kota rep on the phone made me feel like an idiot. Had a hard time with the update, too... until I realized it's not iPilot link anymore. Such a weird thing. Guess the Riptide Terrova's still come with the heading sensor? The Minn Kota rep on the phone actually chuckled at me when I said my heading sensor was missing from the box. Told me it comes integrated with the head and it's no longer needed. All I need to do is the keel offset and all the features will activate.
Hey man just kinda curious. I just bought a new terrova and mine came with a heading sensor. Question is how did you find out that you didn't need it? Just don't want to install it without needing to.
@@midwayadam1 Hmm that is confusing. I'll post a link to the one I bought. I got the 36v/24v Terrova with side imaging. It didn't come with the white puck heading sensor so I called and complained. The rep asked if I was sure it wasn't there and I said I was sure... then they sent me one in the mail. Well, it wouldn't pair to my trolling motor no matter what I tried. Learned the iPilot updates didn't work because it is now called Advanced GPS. Those updates worked. Still wouldn't pair to the puck. SO, I called in again and the rep laughed and asked where I got the puck. Told me it isn't supposed to have one. I plan to take it out on the water tomorrow to test all the features and see how tight spot lock will keep me without having a puck.
@@joshuasmith2689 yeah I don't know I got a 24v terrova as far as I know it's mainly for spot lock jog feature. I was able to pair mine. Good luck buddy didn't mean to stir the pot and get you thinking. 😂

@bayoubanditcharters I'm confused on the difference between Drift Mode and Locked Course. Is it just that in Drift Mode you can specify a MPH over ground and in Locked Course you can only control prop speed?
Yes. Drift mode does both! So if you’re fishing with a strong tail wind, drift mode will slow your boat down and steer.

Does motor come with heading sensor? Or must you purchase separately?
Mine came with it.
I just got the new power drive mini koto, it says it has all these features as well? But cant find any vids
#2 button pulls up all of your saved tracks and waypoints
Can you plug a foot controller into this new Riptide Terrova?
Also, I have a Humminbird networking model at my counsel running a transducer off the back. How do I connect this Terrova to the Humminbird unit?
Yes you can! You connect to the factory plug on the head unit
Is there a way to use harming sidescope withe Minn Kota ulterrra
I’m sure there is. Give Danny a call!
Is there no jump to highest speed “rabbit” feature?
Not to my knowledge, but it might be possible to assign one of the buttons to do that in the settings?
Question: Can I use this New Advanced GPS Remote with a Minn Kota Ulterra iPilot or do I need an i-Link trolling motor to be able to use this remote? Please advise. Thank you.
I don’t think they will work like that. performancefishingelectronics.com/ would definitely know, thanks!
I ordered one! I was waiting for something like drift mode for river fishing.
Heck yeah! Drift mode is my favorite!
Got the Ulterra version and still learning. I did not get the puck so not sure if I can do the keel offset and head direction or not.
I think it's built in the head unit on yours.
@@bayoubanditcharters my Ulterra came with one.2024 model
Now you need to have a video on how to pair your phone and for the use of the phone with the motor when you don't have a hummingbird to hook up to it
I'm about to pull the trigger on a new Powerdrive Advanced GPS. Is there any advantage to simply getting the micro remote and using either the One Boat or the Minn Kota app to use some of the advanced features? Or should I just pay for the advanced remote and get it over with?
Very informative video and perfectly explained. I;ll be visiting more often....
The remote came standard with mine
@@bayoubanditcharters Thank you for your quick reply. Is there any advantage to that remote vs. the micro.
Like button smashed.
Will the track functions work if you do not have hummingbird graph?
Absolutely! I don't have a Hummingbird. It will store 20 tracks with just the remote!
Love this channel!!
Thanks brother!
Do you have to sink the head everytime or just initially? I am setting mine up tomorrow for the first time. Great video.
Just once
Great thank you.
curious if drift mode, follow contour or follow track can go below .5mph I like to drift slow and jig at .2 or .3mph but seems like legacy units have trouble doing that getting much below .5mph
It should. You can set your SOG to any speed you want, I usually run mine at .8
If I’m drifting in current and want to slow my drift down can I activate the drift mode to slow me down from 3mph to 1.5 mph
Absolutely! That’s what I do when fishing creeks with wind pushing me from behind. The trolling motor will spin around and slow down your boat speed. It works awesome!
@@bayoubanditcharters I’m new to this so last question. How do I set the target speed ? Thank you
Wow, drift mode looks excellent.
No hummin bird required
Thanks!
Excellent and informative video… thanks from a new subscriber. I just installed my new adv nav Terrova. I put the puck on the bow centerline. I did install next to motor. I know in the past this was frowned upon…
Thanks brother! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have been enjoying mine!
THANK YOU!
You might need a heading sensor, but I’m not sure on that exact setup?
"
Seems to me that they should either disclose that you need the heading sensor for the motor direction icon on your remote to work, or include a sensor with the TM. Pretty frustrating to find this out after the TM was installed during the boat build. Thanks again for your video!
Is this new remote compatible with a 2022 Ipilot Terrova, not a Quest series.
No, this is the new Advanced GPS model and the remote comes with the unit
Hey thanks for the video. Very informative. It's strange nobody else have made any review or anything about the motor. I am going to by a terrova soon, and i can see here i denmark that the old model is being sold out now, so i guess the new model is on the way.
Do you know if there are any differences between the new and old motor?
Is it only the remote and software there a new?
Thanks for your comment brother. The new ones are supposed to be more durable they say? So far I’m loving it!
Thanks for the answer. I heard that the lift assist was removed from the new model. Maybe it was a weak point on the old model. Well it looks great and very simple to use with the new remote layout.
I think i will buy that one.
Just recieved the new 2024 model today. Your video convinced me. Thx.
Heck yeah brother! You’re going to love it!
How long does the battery last ? And what volt do you use .. awesome vid
36v. I run Ionic lithium batteries so I can fish all day long, then run a 5 hour flounder gigging charter and still have about 40% battery left! The original Remote battery still says full charge
@@bayoubanditcharters that’s awesome .. damn expensive battery !
So the Minn Kota Riptide Terrova New 2024 Model still needs a puck?
I do agree! That’s why I love my Power Poles!
New sub here. Very informative and helpful. Thank You
Thanks brother!
Can you record a track with the trolling motor in the stored mode? Or does it need to be in the water? Thanks!
Not sure about that, mine was upright but out of the water
@@bayoubanditcharters taking mine out for the first time tomorrow. I’ll let you know if it records tracks with the motor stowed.
@@bayoubanditcharters I did try recording a track with the trolling motor in the stored position and it worked perfectly. 👍
Cheers from Australia
Cheers brother!
Someone with a southern accent talking about trout fishing made me do a double take, lol
Lol, speckled trout, not rainbows!
@@bayoubanditcharters Ohh, I didn't realize it was saltwater.
Lol, yes sir! Alabama and Mississippi gulf coast!
Plenty of freshwater trout in southern states.
Hahahahaha. They do have trout in the south east
what's the difference between Locked Course Mode and Drift Mode? Seems like they do the same thing
Drift mode combines locked course and cruise control into one mode! You can set your course and speed!
@@bayoubanditchartersthank you for the video - so with the new model with itracks it’s not going to slow you down - only drift slows you down
How does the phone app compare to the actual remote?
Honestly I haven’t tried using it yet
Almost exactly the same
I learned today that my Terrova 2024 Advanced GPS does not need a heading sensor like the one shown at 1:18.
What is the difference between drift mode and auto pilot? It seems to serve the same purpose, maybe I’m missing something. TIA
Drift mode combines auto pilot and cruise control into one! You can set your target speed as well as your heading
Thank you for your reply and informative video. I picked up a new terrova as well and could not find a video on RUclips as extensive as yours.
Great video. Thank you!
Thanks, happy to help!
