*This makes my old motor look like a toy **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it's well built. I haven't had it on the water yet, but I'm very sure it will perform just fine.*
Love your no bullshit attitude about the trolling motors. Tight lines.
I often wondered what guides did for trollers when theirs went down. Makes scents to have a backup in that case. Good move dude!
Your reply rate is off the charts!
Very helpful.
Good on ya, and thanks for the video.
“I don’t have to justify sh*t to anybody.” That’s fantastically awesome, and no you do not! Hopefully between the two you keep them in business.
My Ulterra just showed up today. Going on the boat in the morning. Coming from Xi5 too. Xi5 worked perfectly, just wanted the deploy since I usually fish alone.
My ix5 broke in less than 4 years has the common issues with the decay of the cords and GPS
Just purchased my Terra. Installing this weekend. Thank you for making me feel better about purchase. Thank you for the hard work on posting these videos.
same here man. I watched this because I was trying to justify the auto deploy and stow. I'm not spending almost 3k to turn around and fight with them over it. appreciated the vid
@@cscott661 I just fished today with a buddy who has a Lowrance Ghost. It's my next next one
@@kayakwesty those are sweet, but 3600 bucks is crossing the reasonable line in my book lol
I have ultera on my boat. Go to launch ramp, stop fast, boat floats off, step out of truck and set spot lock, and boat is there waiting when I park and walk back to dock. Then bring boat over to me and step in. You should see people pointing at my boat with no one in it. Great show, Kentucky
Nice video. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us.
I love my Ulterra on my bass boat. I picked-up a used tracker targa 17’ and my ulterra being a 45” shaft is too small. I purchased a ultrex 60” shaft because I want to use a low pro rack or all aboard livescope mount. Stay blessed!
I have had an ulterra on my 190 bass tracker for the last 6 years... it started making a grinding noise this year... couldn’t figure out what it was and this past week it died and wouldn’t auto stow... it’s a pain to manually stow it... the track was binding up and now it won’t deploy... I love the auto deploy and trim option... I could raise it if I was shallow or put it all the way down if I was in rough water.. not sure what I’m going to do now... gotta Minnesota trip in 4 weeks and no trolling motor and everybody is sold out....
I love my ulterra, its get when trolling and running 4 to 6 planerboards
I came here looking for trolling motor stuff, but you just made me want Livescope even more than I already did.
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 get you some Livescope and have some fun!!
Trolling motors have gotten out of hand with cost!
Hello, I ran into the problem of loosening the gearbox bolts on the Minn Kota Terrova 80 /US2/IP 72 24V. Tell me the marking of the hexagon, I can’t find it in stores.
Sounds like a question for MK, not me 😂
Strongly considering the Terrova, how has it been holding up? Did you experience any spot lock craziness I saw in some reviews about the head wildly rotating 360 degrees and messing the cable? I realize I gotta have spot lock to hold these brush piles while using livescope.
It’s fine. Would never own another Ulterra ever again. Any issues with the Terrova are battery or wiring related, or just needs calibrated. Still working great for me.
Saying: (at 10:57 ) "It's neither here nor there, I don't have to justify shit to anybody . . . " Right after spending several minutes detailing your experience and reasons that you got where you are with trolling motors. 😂😆😂 Good one !
I mean I don’t have to, but I do anyway since people constantly ask questions. Isn’t that how engagement works? 🥴🥴🥴
@@KansasAnglingExperience Of course! I appreciated your explanation but thought there was some irony in the: "I don't have to justify . . ." comment. I can also understand how responding to critics would get frustrating. When I watched you use auto-deploy for example, my first reaction was that it's slower than manual-deploy. Your explanation that auto-deploy gives you the benefit of not having to dodge your passengers made good sense. Thanks Brian !
Man I’ve had a ulterra for a few years now but thinking about getting rid of it before it starts having problems and getting a terrova I just don’t like all the moving parts in the ulterra and it’s got stuck upwards a few times already .
I love my ulterra. It makes my 500$ boat look fancy.
Don’t forget the silicon lube for the shaft.🤣 (the trolling motor shaft)
Yep definitely need to stay on that!
Kansas Angling Experience - pro tip. The side with the deploy and store motor has a threaded shaft with a little plastic piece that runs on the threads.
Make sure those 4 little screws are tightened every so often. I got to go for a swim yesterday. They where just loose enough to not deploy.
When u have fish on the bottom, that is good time to use bottom fill, fish stick out like sore thumb. What line do you use. Kentucky
Was the auto stow and deploy feature the reason you went ulterra over the garmin force? It also doesn’t need the foot pedal. I wanted a force but couldn’t justify the additional cost over terrova.
Not interested in the Force or it’s price tag. Too many bad reviews and shit for them to work out first, as well as getting a longer shaft.
hopefully the ulterra works out. The only reason I don't own one is , I have used a cable drive for 30 years and can't get used to the ulterra pedal or remote. There are 2 certified minn kota repair shops in the metro. Jerry's and smithville marine. I have not used either one. I have owned over a dozen Minn Kotas over the years. Not much problem with any of them. I Just installed my second Ultrex in 4 years. Not because of Minn Kota issues. I just abused and wore the first one out.
doesnt minn kota have a 2 year warranty ?? what was their reason for not honoring it ?
Thanks for the videos . Since i think guides use their boats tons more than regular anglers . I have a 21' ranger bassboat and getting ready to upgrade trolling motors . Im looking for a really tight holding spot lock and pedal control and or remote. Do you recommend any ? I was looking at the garmin force but that is just way out of budget. Like $2600 is my limit. Thanks !
My Terrovas have been absolutely bulletproof.
Spot lock or live scope for a bass fisherman. I fish lots of small tournaments. What do you think is more beneficial?
Spot lock
I would be happy with either 1 of them mines not even a mini kota it's a 1984 proline just to have spot lock I would be happy
How do get my hand on that control arm for that transducer?
I’m gettin ready to put an ulterra or a terrova on the back of my Allison, to act as a brake when I start to over run fish with my scope. I had an ulterra. I loved it, but was kind of forced to buy a Force.
I want a self deploy. Which one would you say is the most reliable ?
I’m not going to have a gps puc. Not will I have a transducer hooked up to it. It’s going to solely be a braking system along with my power poles
Hey thinks for the info I have a terrova and looking at getting a trolling motor like you have that auto stow/deploy for health reasons would you get a ultrex or ulterra I have heard several people talking about the ulterra having problems and tearing or messing up easily just checking on me advice what happened to your trolling motor thanks and good luck
Joe, read his previous comments, I kept seeing Terrova. And that the Ulterra is junk.
What do you think as far as lund aluminum boats verse alumicraft of same size and type ?
Ford vs. Chevy topic. All personal preference.
How has the ulterra held up since then im considering purchasing one for saltwater in the keys? Would appreciate your input?
It broke three times and I sold it and went back to a Terrova. I wouldn’t recommend an Ulterra to anyone.
Mine crapped out too and same with the ultrex pur junk
One would think after years of these motors being in production there would be some higher level of quality assurance testing. In the past month yours, Keith's, Noah's, Dennis Edwards and mine have all went down with problems. If Garmin or Lowrance end up having a more durable and reliable product over the long run they will begin to steal market share from Minn Kota. If I knew a Garmin was bullet proof I'd say it justifies the extra coin I'd spend on one.
Yeees
How is the ulterra holding up now since it’s been a few years?
I got rid of it not long after this video. Biggest unreliable POS bow mount I’ve ever had. Terrova for life.
What size boat do you have and the length of trolling motor shaft. I'm trying to decide what size I'm needing. Thanks
I ran 60” for a long time but now I run a 72”.
@@KansasAnglingExperience I have a champion and I believe 60 is just way to long on it but my old trolling motor shaft is 45 inch
How did the Terrova do? I’m a tournament bass angler but not an every weekender. Maybe 1 a month in a 17ft aluminum.
I enjoy it, and it works all the time. Lol
Just watched your video as I research trolling motors. How do you feel about the different motors you've had now? which was most reliable pluses and minus of each. Would be great to get a video on what you think given you use your equipment daily. How did ulterra hold up after the repairs? Having a serious heavy duty user review your equipment would be very helpful to those if us who fish occasionally and.lookibg fir good gear. Thanks 👍
If you fish once a month the Ulterra is fine. Otherwise it’s as good as garbage to me.
@@KansasAnglingExperience thanks for the reply good to get the perspective of someone who uses their motor alot.. Sounds like it's not that reliable and a more manual motor like the terrova would be better I fish once or so a week and hate hassles with unreliable gear.
Ok be honest. Did you perform the maintain that minn Kota recommends? Silicone lube on the shaft and marine grease on the pins? Could this have affected your experience? In the market right now and would appreciate the input. Thanks
None of that maintenance would have prevented the steering module to go to shit in less than 2 weeks.
@@KansasAnglingExperience gotcha. That blows man.
What was wrong with the ulterra? Mine crapped out after 3 days of using it. It has massively increased my boat control.
You can’t use an ultrex w/out the pedal ? You can with the Force.
Too many moving parts to break and or fail.
What model of Garmin is that?
Echomap 93sv plus
Just a heads up on ultera my gopro wifi made my ultera mess up so I have to run gopro manually it seems ok with phone but not remote it messes it up so if it acts up dont use your ultera as an anchor it's ok
I don’t use WiFi on my gopros. No need to
@@KansasAnglingExperience ok good cause it took a lot of trying and thinking to figure it out with no help from minnkotta or gopro they just ignored me they made there money lmao
And on the Hottest Day of the Year...??? Just whistle at your trolling motor and yell "Go Get 'Em"...!
how is your ulterra 2 years later? Im having motor error issues and in the shop. Im thinking about getting an ultrex but not sure. was it the price that you got the terrova and how do you like it? thank you i watch all your videos youve been a big help.
Worst trolling motor ever made. It broke twice in 2 months and I got rid of it 2 years ago. Terrova for life.
@@KansasAnglingExperience that is what you use now? And what about ultrex?
Couldn’t tell ya. I’ve used a Terrova for a long time and it’s been the most bulletproof trolling motor I’ve ever had. Ultrex doesn’t suit me as far as guiding is concerned with clients in the front of the boat.
@@KansasAnglingExperience any issues with the terrova remote? Some people complained about that?
I had an ulterra about 4 years ago and when the force came out my boat guy talked me into going to the force. I am on my 4th one. The last one came on an Allison. The ulterra was the best motor I have ever had.
I have gotten used to my scope on the shaft. I have used every pole made for the scope. As a guide, the self deploy is really nice. I have gotten used to dong all of my own work.
Love my Terrova! Would'nt trade it for anything!
I use a long pole Venice style to get around in my local lake.
GREAT video...I just purchased a 20ft Triton Center Console for striper fishing...I need new electronics & troll motor...I was thinking about the Ulterra troll motor and Echomap Ultra 106SV w Liveview transducer...but after reading your reviews on the Ulterra trollmotor I'm leaning towards the Terrova....Any suggestions on electronics??
Terrova for sure
@@KansasAnglingExperience- Ok, Thanks!! I'm going w Garmin Echomap & Panoptix, so I'm thinking about spending a lil more & getn the Garmin Force....Any thoughts on the force?
@@dandillon7729 haven’t gotten the chance yet…they need a longer shaft (don’t we all)
I’m just at the beginning of this video and I am on my 3rd Force and the e board was bad on it. I had an ulterra and never had a problem with it, so why the fuck did I switch ?
I had a foot pedal with my Ulterra
These are questions only you can answer bud.
I had two Force TM's, one quit working completely, they gave me a new one, steering and spot lock sucked, cut my losses and sold it.
Cool video ! Keep up the good work and keep creating! Wish you All the best :)
Newport trolling motor very nice well constructed 55 pound thrust. Fits nice on my inflatable raft. It's lite weight enough to pickup transport it. Shipped fast.
If you do regular maintenance on it , it will serve you well . A captain I know has me help him open and lube the track and pivot points and he has know trouble. Th people that have trouble never look at them till there is a problem.
That sucks new should not fail but I'm the guy who has bought 2nd hand power drive 50 for 100 bucks and a edge 70 for 100 bucks and now I'm trying to adapt the edge 70 motor on to the power drive 50 if it can be done or not, there's nothing wrong with either motor I just don't like the stiff cable on the edge especially when it has 2 cables which are more like Harley Davidson clutch cables
have you had any more issues with the trim since you posted this? Good review.
A week after this everything just stopped working. Had to manually stow it that night. Been on my garage floor ever since.
@@KansasAnglingExperience So you probably will not recommend the Ulterra, right?
@@mohamedelgohary7774Hot garbage.
Which Garmin do you have?
1243xsv, 126 Ultra, And two 106 Ultras
My ulterra just crapped out on me, so getting a terrova , so I can have a back up, for the back of my boat. So I’ll have two. The ulterra does not do well in super wet conditions. With yours at the bow, you should not have any big issues.
It appears you are not using the "touchscreen" remote that came with the Ulterra. What remote are you using? The touchscreen remote is a pain! It somehow always accidently touches my body and turns off "spot lock," or "autopilot," "cruise control," etc. Locking the screen and unlocking the screen is too cumbersome. I would prefer a remote with standard buttons.
The touchscreen version is the ipilot link model which I do not have or need because I don’t run hummingbirds.
Where are you in Kansas? I'm in nw kansas. Just found you. New sub
How is your Ulterra holding up now.
I got rid of that POS two years ago.
@@KansasAnglingExperience that’s all I needed to know
@@KansasAnglingExperience I was going to buy one this am......you just saved me 3000 bucks lol
Had ulterra belt keeps breaking 4 times now i trashed it Now im trying terovva
I fish 3-5 times a week and will retire my surg practice and guide for crappie. I will have two
I wonder if I’m the only who caught the “how neat is that” reference lol
I’m interested in the terrova for my tracker pro guide v16. It’s an aluminum deep v. Would recommend the 60” or 45” trolling motor shaft length??
Always go as long as you can get
I was about to cut my shaft (54”) to better fit my 1444 Jon. Why do you say longer is better?
Looks like a great trolling motor but I would be worried about longevity on ulterra
Lol. Not sure you watched the video if that’s what’s you’re commenting.
@@KansasAnglingExperience yeah I like minn kota but way to many moving parts
@@KansasAnglingExperience I'm sure it's good but I would worry about a motor or spur gear or ?
@@KansasAnglingExperience I think they are great I bought terrova for less moving parts but still way too expensive lol
Two years later this motor is going strong ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite
Keep us updated on how the ulterra is working for you
I got it fixed and it shit the bed again. Got it fixed again and sold it.
Using the terrova now?
@@kenthayer6255 correct
Thanks for telling it like it is. Amazing amount of similiar comments and questions. Folks just watch the video, read the comments, and learn from the replies? Just saying. 😀
That would make too much sense 🙃
Greenbay fan in KC???? You are nuts
I was born and raised in Wisconsin so...
I think the cost of electronics, batteries, trolling motors is going to exceed the cost of my boat. Anyone else experience this lol
That’s a good problem to have!
@@KansasAnglingExperience haha thanks! I’ve got livescope now, just have to figure out which spot lock trolling motor to get. I run 12v currently.. have considered terrova. My boat is extremely light (16” aluminum lowe skorpion bass boat). Impossible to stay on crappie with current set up when it’s windy.
Hang in there with your Alterra, I'm retired fish as often as can, upper midwest and multiple trips to Canada each summer. I am on year 3 with my Refurbished Alterra, mother board went out first week I had it, fixed within a week covered by warranty, recently had power switch go out, fixed in 2 days. Those are the only problems I have had. Best investment I have made, love the ease of operation and self deploy and stow is so nice when we change fishing spots which is often when we fish structure. Several people have become believers after fishing with me and have purchased an Alterra. TIGHT LINES
Best decision I ever made was selling it a week after it got fixed for the second time. Ulterra sucks. Terrova for life.
Have any cheese with that wine. 😢
Yes. Your mom brought me some.
New t shirt…I don’t have to justify shit to anybody
Great idea 😎

For the record regarding my previous comment!
Gentlemen,
I was finally able to get up with Trolling Motor Services Plus yesterday after numerous attempts.
I learned the motor is factory programmed for a port side mount with prop facing seaward. He mounted it on the starboard side which obviously caused the prop to contact the hull and obstruct travel.
The real issue is Matias Dozo-Moreno, owner of Trolling Motor Services Plus when I asked admitted twice he NEVER repeat NEVER checked the deploy or stow function during installation claiming it might hit the trailer which is ludicrous. He knew he screwed up and had he done his job correctly and checked the installation he would have realized the error, corrected his mistake and all of this diatribe could have been avoided. Openly denigrating the unit obviously instilled trepidation as a first time Minn Kota customer which certainly exacerbated the issues! After all...this guy sells RHODAN and that’s all he has in his shop so that might be the reason!
That being said he wiped out the factory settings, rotated the lower unit 180 degrees, reprogrammed and got it working properly and walked off! To reiterate had he simply responded weeks ago and not told me I made a purchasing mistake with Minn Kota we could have avoided all of this back and forth.
This has been a major learning experience for me in trusting reviews. I remain hugely disappointed in The Factory Outlet Store and of course Minn Kota’s choice of Trolling Motor Services Plus as ASC and as it stands I will keep the motor and go to a reputable Minn Kota shop if further repairs are necessary.
I have heard trailering Minn Kota down bumping highways and county roads beat up trolling motor badly. Bumping bumping electric components is bad news . His facts: official Minn Kota repair shop in Ontario Canadian.
Don’t travel Minn Kota trolling Motors on bow of your boat
hold it still. they cant catch it
bait moving to fast lol
Seems like it but that’s what gets them fired up. Don’t want them to get a second look at it when they’re finicky
I just punched the ulterra, dealer told me if you only fish A few times A month I should be okay

I guess there must be some secret rule for YT videos that states "When choosing a title for your video, refrain from actually having that titled content in the video". And, it is truly funny how many anglers just can not focus on making a helpful video and have to include 5 minutes of them fishing. For crying out loud... You have "Ulterra vs. Terrova" in the title so one would assume its a comparison video? I guess not. Its basically just you whining about getting a bad Ulterra. I hope your clients getting a better fishing experience than the people who subscribe to your channel if this is a good representation of your video content. In the mean time I'll keep looking for some real information about "Ulterra vs. Terrova". Keep trying though. Good luck.
