    I've got a terrova with ipilot link and helix 7. I cast docks so following contour (shoreline) is awesome. Only complaint, if I manually take over to avoid an object, pick a snag, or spot lock to catch a fish...there really should be a resume button. I have to go from front deck back to counsel to reprogram. Resume would be nice.

    I have the min kota riptide Terrova on a tracker v-16wt. I've used it to 1 year. It is amazing. I troll by myself slot. I adjust the speed and set a heading. Now I'm able to put my trolling lines out without trying to keep the boat on course. When I hook a fish it allows me to fight the fish without trying to control the motor. If I hook a large fish I dial the speed back after hookup and reduce the effort to land it. I use spot lock in areas with heavy current. Anchoring in heavy current by yourself can be very dangerous and by the time the anchor sets your usually not where you want to be. This motor is incredible. It's totally changed the way I fish. I increased my catch rate significantly by using it in the past year. I'm out fishing the boats around me . It's a total game changer.

      Thanks Brian..You can buy a new iPilot "Link" kit which will replace you're iPilot controller. Very easy to do on Terrova...less easy with PowerDriveCost is about $650 USD so most people find it more cost effective to sell their motor and buy a new Link motor.

    A great video, I put fishing aside for the last 12 years. Prior to retiring last year, I wanted to upgrade my 16 foot Deep V Tracker with a new trolling motor. I admit I didn't do a lot of research but did ask a lot of questions at Cabela's. Based on their info I bought the Ultrex I Pilot 80#. Due To health reasons, I was unable to put the boat in the water until September of this year. I bought a new Helix Humminbird Chirp GN3 gps Mega SI. I love the combination, but first time out the transducer didn't work on the boat. I was told to switch the Y cable around which fixed the boat transducer but now it seems that the trolling motor isn't working on the down imaging. Now I'm laid up until next year but am wondering if I was sold the wrong cable. Any info would be helpful, so I get it all working before next year. If the salesman would have talked more about the I Link system that is what I would have gotten. Pays to Reseach more thoroughly, but I'm sure I'll be satisfied once things work as they should. Spot lock is amazing.

    • @principleoutdoors8932
      @principleoutdoors8932  3 года назад +1

      Sounds like you didn't get the adapter for the transducer in the motor. If the metal 6 pin cable is talk the size of the other cable, you will need and MKR-US2-8

  • @itmustsuck2bu
    @itmustsuck2bu 2 года назад

    Thinking about a Terrova but I run Lowrance HDs carbon I saw in other videos that there’s cables to link them with the trolling motor will also be able to do all the functions with Lowrance as I would be a hummingbird helix
    Basically wanting to use auto pilot spot lock and make use of the transducer in the trolling motor

    • @principleoutdoors8932
      @principleoutdoors8932  2 года назад +1

      If I understand your question, this would be the answer. The functions like AutoPilot and Spot Lock have nothing to do with the sonar. It's in the motor that it happens. Buy an iPilot Terrova ( not iPilot Link) with a US2 transducer (not DI or SI) and the transducer in the motor will hook up to your Lowrance for 2d sonar readouts

    • @principleoutdoors8932
      @principleoutdoors8932  3 года назад +1

      Any upgrade to iPilot is great, even if just for Spot Lock. Keep in mind that if you do the upgrade on a PowerDrive , you can't still use the pedal. Also, the cost is about $400. Depending on budget, it may be better to sell the PowerDrive and buy a new motor withiPilot pre-installed

    Very helpful video. Thanks! What is the difference between a route and an itrack? Can you plot a route and then have mine kota trolling motor do a "go to" so it follows the route? How many points can be in an I track?. I heard that the itracks use to be six tracks at 2 miles each. Maybe that was just iPolit. Is the new ipolit 66 tracks at 2 miles each or is it less?

    • @principleoutdoors8932
      @principleoutdoors8932  2 года назад

      Thanks! A route is created on the Humminbird for boat navigation. An iTrack is created with the iPilot motor for the motor to follow.Yes you can create a route on the Humminbird and have the iPilkot follow it, but this is a lot of work. Always easier to press record iTrack and do the route you want, then it will be in the memory. Regular iPilot is still 6 iTracks, iPilot "LINK" is 66....you now owe me some Tapas and wine LOL

    I put Ulterra with i-pilot link and Helix 7 on my river boat for fishing big rivers. One issue I have found is that many features like cruise control and auto pilot don't operate well when I have boat pointed into the current (as it usually is) and fishing as we drift downstream. I would love to be able to set a speed and distance from shore (similar to lake contour) and have the motor be smart enough to simply slow the boat's drift and bump me in or out based on shoreline. Admittedly, I am still learning a lot about what it can do, but I haven't figured out how to do anything like this yet. I usually just have to do it all manually and then lock spots I like. Just a thought for the next generation

    • @muskietime
      @muskietime Год назад

      Probably 15 years ago, I owned a Pinpoint Trolling Motor which did as you asked: You could set the Distance from Shore. Plus, you could Set the Depth after “teaching it” which side of the motor was closest to shallow water.
      Unfortunately, most shorelines are irregular (docks, underwater boulders, fallen trees...) and the motor would “correct” for what it saw as the shoreline.
      The Depth Contour was good but would get really confused with inside or outside turns.
      Perhaps in the future they can figure this out by scanning further ahead.
      I was told that the Pinpoint had five transducers built into the unit!

    @13:58 - I don't think you can use the Minn Kota Heading Sensor puck with Humminbird units as you stated, unless something has recently changed? Doesn't it only communicate with the trolling motor via bluetooth? To get heading info on the Humminbird units you need the Humminbird external GPS receiver with integrated heading sensor, which is yet another $200 extra addon...
