I feel so much of what you’re saying here. I think “fit shaming” is socially acceptable. I have several obese colleagues at work - one morbidly obese - who fit shame me regularly. We have a lunch at work and I eat my packed food. I get the comments like “oh of course Casey isn’t eating the pizza” “oh Casey doesn’t take the elevator, only the stairs”. Now, if I said the same things but the other way around, I’d be in HR.
You can have excuses or you can have results. Usually not both.

As a person who was obese for the most of my life and lost nearly 80#, she's infuriating me so much with her hyprocisy and victim mindset. It's not okay to be pushing people to stay or get more unhealthy, it's not okay to be applauding them for it and it's not okay to be forcing everyone around you to either accept your crooked vision or make them gtfo.

I'd have 100 Ryan Fischers over 100 Beths in their approach any day of the week. Becuase the side effect of Ryan's is one where the world is less sick. The Side effect of Beth's mindset is an over run health care system where the ones who decided to take charge of their lives need to take care of the obese.

@@hillerfit For sure. If you aren't strong enough yourself to take action and start getting healthier, there's almost always someone close to you, who will support you...Under a condition you're a dude good enough of course. If you start attacking others, because you're seeing everything as an attack on you, people will start turning away from you and you'll realise that only when it's too late.

    • @AileenBaker
      @AileenBaker 9 месяцев назад +1

Right?!? Do I think there's space to tailor the approach to support people with mental health issues and eating issues better? Sure, but the victim mindset is so frustrating to listen to. Ableism and body shaming are for sure real issues, but she mostly sounds like she needs permission from other people to continue feeling out of place in making the choices she makes for herself. Losing weight as a goal is not good for your mental health? Ok! Great, fine, but stop asking people permission to hold that view and just own where you are and what you're doing.

The sooner that she and her followers realize: "Just because you're offended and upset, DOES NOT MEAN YOU'RE CORRECT" - The sooner they will be making progress towards their goals, WHATEVER they may be.
What she is doing here is the definition of sugar coating things for herself under the false label of "body positivity "; As a way to insulate and bury deep down that tiny little voice in her head that she knows is right, that tells her "you're just not doing enough" to see the results she want to see.

This video needed to happen. I would like to share a few facts. As in , this actually happened.
In college my diet was a steady stream of jack daniels, and McDonald’s. Never went to the gym. Ate like crap.
    2005 6’1 255#
2006 my friend wakes me up and insists that we go to the gym because I’m going to die early if I don’t change my life.
I had been an emotional overeater for over 15 years and then I added alcohol to the mix.
Going it alone for many years without direction, I found a multitude of other eating disorders that I fell into. Including exercise, anorexia nervosa, and bulimia.
I have had both spectrum ends, haunt me and my past.
It was my bad relationship with exercise and food, and not knowing how to have control over either one .
When I began CrossFit in 2012, I had been up and down a crazy roller coaster. And the gym that I finally decided to roll into was not an easy one. The head coach there did not pull punches. Never once did he go out of his way to insult, but candy coating was never his strong suit.
Obviously, hearing those things, for the first time is not an easy thing. But what he wanted to show me was that it was within my power and my power alone to make the difference that I wanted to see, and if I was unhappy with the way, I looked, or the way I performed the only person that could fix it was me . His message was simple. The only person who can truly help you is you and nothing can replace honest work.
From 2012 to today I have continued to strive for that mindset and as a leader of a CrossFit community and a gym owner myself I share that message with every person here.
    For reference, I have a full-time job 12 hours a day sometimes 6- 7 days a week.
My partner and I have five kids.
    I am now 39 years old .
I am around 180# and I guess about 14% body fat
    I’ve been 6%
I cook most of my meals
I enjoy fun foods on occasion with respect for myself.
I’m a masters athlete that is fitter, happier and in a better mental place because someone had the guts to tell me I need better for myself. Time and again.
It isn’t about not having time it isn’t about finding ways to try less.
Everyone, and I mean everyone, has a list of excuses a mile long. But we’ve made those lists ourselves.
I’ve been and continue to fight against all kinds of negative mindsets and hurdles that challenge my progress. But just like I tell all my members as long as you put in the effort, you will get the results, and if it requires more effort, Then you put in more effort.
Sometimes effort isn’t more burpees. It’s self respect. Self control. And self awareness.
There’s no shame in wanting better for others. And a real coach or friend will care enough to call you out. It’s up to you to embrace it.
Shame is what we have when we know we’re not doing right by ourselves.
    Actual Facts.

She is a complete narcissist and potentially the single biggest hypocrite in the fitness space.
Body shaming is bad. Body positivity is good. Unless you happen to have a different body shape to her or a different goal in mind - then you’re fair game for her to criticise.
She recently made a claim on one of her videos that ‘if you have a 6 pack, you aren’t eating enough’. A bold and sweeping statement which can be picked apart from a number of angles - but above all, who is she to decide she can tell people they aren’t eating enough?! What even is ‘enough’ without knowing a persons goals or intentions?
I dislike her content for a number of reasons, none of which are because she is fat. It saddens me she has such a voice in this space to spread her misinformation.

Comment on 2023 open: workout 23.2b, the one rep max thruster, was almost exactly your body weight for all women that aren’t elite. I got a little more than my body weight. Bethany lifted a lot less than her body weight, only 78% of her body weight according to her self proclaimed weight, (didn’t stop her from putting out a video touting her “strength”), but she still finished in the 99th percentile in that workout! Take that one out and she would have placed much, much worse in the open. Not to mention she didn’t meet movement standards in the workouts that she did do. Zero wall walks that counted. She can’t do them. She is not fit. She is not healthy. She cannot bully me into saying that she is.

This video currently has 5 dislikes. That is a record in the first 45 minutes believe it or not. You five people who disliked it need to ask yourself. Would 1,000 Ryan Fischers make a better world? Or 1,000 Sporty Beths?.... Just think of what comes from what these two promote. THINK

She is also creating a false dichotomy. You’re either fat or shredded. You can be strong and healthy without being at either of those extremes. It really does seem this is more about the losing battle she is having between her ears. Like the cameo that she said “didn’t age well” she needs a therepist…. Hopefully to help repair her view of food. Food is not medication or comfort. It should be fuel. She only needs to feed the main tank, not throwing loads of gas cans in the trunk and filling up those too.

It's not "bullying" just because you don't want to hear it. Also it's ridiculous how much she shames people who are actually in-shape. She puts everyone so broadly in these make-believe categories that she controls the narrative of. Everything in her life ends up in her being a victim - its so tiring. Heck, her own persistent thoughts about being a victim probably contribute to cortisol increases and weight gain lol.
If I took her advice, I wouldn't be able to educate any of my patients about their high cholesterol, high LDL, hypertension etc etc. Being fat isn't healthy, it might not entirely be your fault, but it's still not healthy. Having pounds upon pounds of visceral fat is not, has never been, and will never be healthy. The real friends we have in life are those who tell us these sort of things, not just play to our ego.
    Oh, and happy birthday, Hiller!

Everything she says.. she just making an excuse and being the victim.. the mindset she lives in is doing more harm to her than she thinks it is… the worst part is society is rewarding people like this.. one of your best videos Hiller. Nice job 👍🏻
I also would like to add… my mother was obese and she developed PAH and lung cancer… she battled those two things for 5-6 years. She tried to get into the gym and was a little successful and I saw improvements in her. But ultimately she wasn’t able to get back to a point where she could be healthy and than her cancer progressed to far to the point where she lost her life to it. I remember her telling me why she was fat/obese and it was from some trauma she had as a kid…. To the point where she didn’t want men touching her.. so she figured if she was fat then she would be safe from men..
For me having learned that and then watching her for the last few months of her life daily.. slow waste away because of the above things. Was painful… but it’s also been my motivation for myself to never be in that position myself.
So to finish this long comment.. it really makes me mad with how Beth thinks it’s okay to be unhealthy and that it’s wrong to tell me people they are that… we all have the choice to make and if you really want it that bad you will do… Andrew you did yourself and I’ve watched love ones do the same both for good and bad.. but it always comeback to YOU. We are the maker of our on destiny.

What you eat in put into your body is one of the few things you can actually control and she is trying to come up with every excuse to keep getting worse. I was also the fat kid when I was younger and I was still athletic but still picked on and called fat… it was probably the best thing that happened to me! It forced me to look at myself in the mirror and be honest that even though I was athletic now if I let it continue I would be dead by now or forced to stay in my bed.
My dad got cancer and died from cancer and I can agree his high sugar diet and overeating is the overall reason he died in his 60s…
People today can’t take truth anymore and nobody is fat shaming we are telling people the truth and that can sucks sometimes but if people need it told hold themselves accountable for their actions.
Her video about fat shaming just infuriates me! Thanks for making this video Andrew and telling people the truth!!!!

Also, if you reference “What is Fitness” and the “sickness, wellness, fitness continuum” you’ll see that we literally define fitness not as a metric totally defined by physical capacity, but also largely related to metabolic health. Obesity inherently carry’s with it a lot of metabolic risk factors, and as such an obese person can not be considered “fit”.
If you are physically fit and obese, but yet also CURRENTLY absent of disease, you would be categorized under the “wellness” position of the continuum.
Reality is harsh. It’s been harsh for me at times, too, but it doesn’t make it untrue. Accept that it is, and start working to fix it or accept it, but stop trying to force the rest of the world to accommodate you. It’s not fair to us, OR YOU.
