- Foo Fighters were on Letterman on January 10th 2002 and played 'The One', with Jack Black joining in on backing vocals. During the commercial break they also played 'My Hero', with Jack joining in again. This was never shown on TV, only uploaded to the CBS website as a low quality RealMedia clip, hence the low quality video here. Sorry about that but it's the only way to see this performance!

You can feel the inner band tension in this performance. Rough era for them, but they still sounded great.

@@LuisenGames In the 6 months leading up to this: Taylor overdosed and almost died, this caused them to cancel a tour. They recorded the first version of "One By One" which they then completely scrapped. Nate quit temporarily. Dave and Taylor weren't getting along. They hadn't been jamming or writing since the album was thrown away . Then Dave recorded "Songs for the Deaf" and at the time of this performance on Letterman, was about to spend the spring and summer touring with Queens of the Stone Age.

Takes me back to when I was first listening to a lot of rock music for the first time as a kid. I had no idea what they were to other people during the time, given I was a kid in elementary school, but I loved their music. I didn't even know some of their song names. I just knew the lyrics and rocked out to their music. Hell, I didn't even know their name for a while. Same with Jack Black. It's just crazy how this was over 14 years ago now. I'm about to be 23. I still feel like that same kid when i hear their music play randomly on the car radio. It's my favorite nostalgia. Take me back to when I was care free and leeching off my parents emotionally and financially. But they sort of had to then. I was like 8-9. lol.
