The game has a lot of references to computer terms strewn about it, just like the Digimon games do, so for example one of the early crafting items you find is Hash Salt, which is a reference to salted hashes, a method of obscuring data that is used for example in storing passwords.
The underground rat city is a bit more esoteric of a reference but it's still a computer pun, a RAT is a type of malicious computer program, stands for Remote Access Trojan.

This is a very refined fusion of several games. It's got some problems tied to information access and just how important certain mechanics are for getting stronger, but it is fundamentally an improvement on every single game it uses as inspiration.

To be honest I want to see a game one of these days that actually adds that kind of information to its tutorial, ideally in a tongue-in-cheek manner such as:
"Now that your creature has reached a new level it has unlocked a potential point, hurry up and assign it to a stat of your choosing!"
"Because there's definitely not a mechanic that you will unlock halfway through the game that will allow you to use those points for something much more important, we promise!"
"Shut up! You're ruining the surprise!"

I feel we are in a true golden age of monster taming games. The likes not seen since the 90s and 2000s. Jade cacoon and robopon walked so Anode Hearts could run lol

Damn, this one completely blindsided me! Dragon Quest Monsters 3 is so close. Bumped this to the top of my wishlist though!

It does look pretty neat, so I’ll consider it once I beat some more games in my backlog

I hope it comes to switch eventually but I'm having fun with it so far

I so far really enjoy the game. It just feels a bit grindy at times, especially when you're going into a new Area and suddenly the Mons are 5 lvls above you. Lvling up takes a while and being on the Same lvl doesn't even say anything since you can still get swept by a Mon, that's the same lvl than you are. Especially if you don't have the right type or move to counter it. That being said, I still enjoy the world and it's characters! I'm not very far storyvise yet tho

Fighting multiple enemies at once multiplies the amount of XP you get btw, so you get more than the sum of fighting them individually.
For example in the Binary Forest at night you can get into a fight with up to 5 enemies at once by getting the Tanuki's to chase you into the Toxee.
The more enemies you get in a single battle, the greater the bonus.
Red Whistles are great for this as well as the essentially get you into a fight with everything on screen.

I'll give props to the dev(s) for making this game, it looks amazing, but... it's not interesting to me. I wouldn't mind more animations for the battle sprites or at the least have a "damage/hit" sprite when an attack hits them to liven up the battles. Also, I love the raising aspect of Digimon or Monster Taming so not being able to feed them and take them to the bathroom kinda kills it to me.
Also, not sure I like the whole "you're an android" aspect of the Player but it's whatever. Anode Hearts feels more Digimon World 3 in terms of battling and grinding for Monsters which I do like DW3, while the world exploration and recruiting is from DW1, but I don't know. So far, I'm not just interested or liking what I see so far for this game.
That said, I do like the Monster Designs. I guess I'll wait for more info and maybe I'll be surprised, but this looks like a no from me about getting it.

Looks fun. I wish the MONSTER RANCHER series would get an updated reimagining indie game.

I've been playing it a bit, and it seems to have issues telling the player really anything and also has some balance problems. Sometimes enemies higher level than you will do literally no damage and die in a couple hits, other times enemies lower level than you will do over 100 damage per hit and take next to no damage. Also the teleporters that make up the fast travel seem hard to remember where they go and inconvenient to use. I want to like this game, but the more I play, the worse it feels

I haven't stopped playing this game since it came out. I have been enjoying it a ton, but I feel like there are things I'm missing in terms of mechanics.

I'd like the dev to decide between making this game all speedrunner/roguelike or for collectors and more relaxed players, the limited inventory and shops the day/night cycle and the challenges makes it clear that the dev wanted to make a game oriented at speedrunners but everything else it's clearly aimed at completionists, I can't really enjoy the game when I have to constantly care about time when exploring an area or grind when I might be missing things because he doesn't care to explain the game mechanics.

I'm gonna go against the positivity wave here and say that I REALLY dislike the lack of exciting battle animations.
I feel like, in a game where battling monsters is the primary gameplay, there should be a much larger focus on nailing exactly that part of the game. In other games like Moonstone Island, where battling is definitely a large part of the overall gameplay but not necessarily the primary part, it's easier to accept the lack of integrate battle animations. Same goes if the game in question was in early access for example, and still had better/more animations planned further down the road or something. But Anode Heart is neither of these two, and for that I just feel obligated to point it out and give it that criticism where (again, I feel like) criticism is due.

having further explored this world i can confidently say its not worth it, it may not have the early access label but it is absolutely early access quality, the "4 mythicals" they so blatantly advertise arent even obtainable. there are secrets that just dont go anywhere despite the effort it takes to learn them with the dev saying hes going to "add them later"
    TLDR; games pretty ass.
