Briefly tried it out and so far loving the designs and I am a big fan of sprites in 3D world rpgs seeing as the gen 5 Pokemon games were my favourite from a style point of view. One thing I wasn't expecting was the quality of the music it may not be to everyone's tastes but it is really well done which really I should have guessed they would try for a games based on music cassettes. Definitely going to be playing through over the next few days.
I will say, their first game, Lenna's Inception, actually has multiple references to Cassette Beasts, suggesting that Cassette Beasts is a bit of a secret sequel, hinting at more of a multiversal story feel.
The music is an absolute winner. The lyrics are actually kinda... well I don't care much for lyrics anyway but the singer makes it sound so good, I feel like I can hear it on loop for hours. Which I did.
what makes me feel great about it (I didn't played it yet) is the fact that the studio are two people, and I'm not sure but it seems like the dev uses Godot Engine, a not well known engine made by a lot of people but some of co founders are from Argentina, and in some sort of way that cheers me up. Anyway I'm not 100% sure about this information, is just what I could find in my stalking session hehe
Usually open world games scare me a little because I am afraid I would mess up somehow. But after watching more videos from you, I thought to myself "This game looks too good to let that get me down!" You sold me on Nexomon and you did it again with Cassette Beasts!
Imo the overworld is a stylistic mess. It mixes outlined characters, with outlineless textures, with shaders that don't resemble either(like the water for instance). On top of that, the world doesn't reflect the game's theme at all, even though the UI does.
Game reminds me more of Digimon than Pokemon, even one of the dragon designs in video looks exactly like Airdramon lol the theme of scanning beasts also reminds me of the same theme in the early 2000's Digimon Frontier show where they also scan the digimons data to transform into them to fight. This game sends me back on some nostalgia in how it has similar 1 to 1 to that show (*´ω`*)
One thing i feel like mentioning is that for stickers, the sorting feature is beyond bare bones. We've got alphabetical order and... reverse alphabetical order. You can't even sort by type let alone different status effects and attack type...
beyond bare bones and yet this is more organized than about 80% of the monster catching genre of games. sorry to say but its clear they weren't focused on that part and were focused on better more important things.

@@raveoreynolds6049 not worse to me, but uninteresting. Withh the rise of the monster taming genre, there are way too many options out there to pic from and the trailer just looked like a bunch of gaming check list with the fusion creature flavor.

This game is a masterpiece! Initially is confusing and boring but when you get exploration abilities and more feeling with the gameplay, cassette beasts become more better than the last pokemon game
Thanks for the info! At first it seemed like it was closer to Pokemon, but the fusion & battle systems make me think of Persona/ SMT with more buff/debut & strategy in it. Waking up in a wired world & fusing with a monster, is this actually a Digimon Frontiers game? Ha I’m even more interested in the game & intend to pick it up when it comes to Switch!
Unfortunately theres a very obnoxious bug rigth now that can make you lose your stickers if you try to move them so you have to always peel them, but it seems the developers are already working on fixing it. Other them that the game is awesome and im having a lot of fun playing it.
The monster designs are great, the Fusion mechanic is very cool, the music is awesome, battle system is pretty interesting, and the polish there is amazing. There's snippets of voice acting too! Yet, after playing the demo... I wasn't really interested in it. Which kinda sucks. I was looking forward to it, but something about it I don't like. The AP system for the moves. I liked the TP system from Nexomon more even if that game is very easy and basic for battles. I don't know, I love Pokemon and Digimon. Monster Rancher is different on their own, but a great Monster Tamer game too. Even played Nexomon. For CB, I wasn't into it. And I think the Stamina System didn't help with how quickly it drains. I'm sure you can increase it, but the whole second or two of dashing kills me for quickly traveling when Pokemon with the running shoes had no stamina and you can quickly get to places. I don't get why it needs a Stamina system. Oh well. Not every game needs to be made for me or I need to play every game. I enjoyed it for a bit, but I'll stick with other games like Coromon. Enjoy the game guys!
its very fun when you unlock the super dash feature but i do agree with you the limit stamina and speed make game feel weird and slow. Since most of game is base on first impression i do agree that this kinda take people off from the game. I know the reason why they make it liked that but i really prefer they give you that ability more early on like gliding.

i love this game but one of the problems i have with the open world concept is that it's easy to do the missions out of order and be either way too under or overleveled.
as a fan of music and monster-taming, this definitely caught my interest. though can anyone tell me if the story gets like, super dark? I got a lot going on so I don't want to get really wrapped up in a story that ends up getting super heavy or depressing

Many of the gameplay mechanics seem very similar to Persona 5. Attacking human controller health, levels to both human and creature, 8 ability slots that includes passives, ability to generate ability cards from monsters. Some of the story beats, too (aspects of human mind especially).
This may be a strange question, but can I ask where you found the version of "same old story" at the beginning with the electric guitar solo? I've looked everywhere and haven't been able to find it
How does it compare to Monster Sanctuary? I assume the battle system doesn't reach that level of depth but the game is more story focused? Either way on Gamepass so definitely gonna give it a shot, although the demo was kinda short the full game seems meaty.
The game is great! Though I still have some gripes: The Fusions are just an eyesore, they are all sausages with limbs and only really change whether they are horizontal or vertical. The only somewhat different ones are the starters. Neat mechanic tho, even if it gets absolutely power crept by some clever easy strats. Having to complete a character's story line to just start fusing is silly. Some of those missions spanning the whole map and requiring every unlockable ability and, and that, for the second partner in the game... The others aren't as bad, but it still feels like a waste to not have the fusion. The game periodically rewards the player for catching new mons, that's good. And the game also has a system to unlock additional info about the beast, Legends Arceus style, which is neat. But the game doesn't reward filling thus as much, which is sad.
Can you give a hint if I shouldn't watch a video based on spoilers yet? I'm pretty sure I want the game now, just still a bit nervous for another failure.
I would honestly play this if it were on PlayStation. PlayStation is were I tend to play all my RPGs this days and I have to be real. The devs are missing out on a huge amount of fans not putting this on PlayStation.
Sadly the monster designs aren't my cup of tea. And having attractive monsters is a key for survival of these games. It's the only reason that Pokémon is still selling a lot while other games in the genre haven't even come close to Pokemon's popularity. The only monster collecting game that picked my interest ( in terms of great monster designs) was the monster hunter stories franchise and of course it borrowed the already excellent Monster design of monster hunter games
unfortunate because this game has some of the best more unique and interesting looking monster designs than any freaking game thats just trying to be a exact copy of pokemon but slightly different to avoid copy right infringement or cease and desist letters.

Gym leader Ed I was wondering if you have a guide on how to get a specific monster in monster sanctuary? I'm trying to get a Tanuki right now and the lil bugger is a pain to get
Your best bet is to just fight everything you see in the sun palace. Tanuki have a 15% chance to replace a monster in an encounter there, as opposed to a measly 1-3% anywhere else. Just smoke bomb out of an encounter if you don't/need to want to fight.
@@sakuretsu1152 I'm aware of that one I was hoping for a better chance as I ran into it at least 7 times already... Wait could the smoke bomb help improve the odds of getting more Tanuki's since it seems to be RNG based luck? 🤔

So ready for this, bit disappointed that the supposed completion time is between 15-25 hours but I'm hoping it has plenty more to really get into it and enjoy for quite a while.

That doesn't have to be 100 hours but if a completionist run is just over 25 then it's a bit low for my liking. Not to detract from it though, if it's an amazing 25 hours or so then I won't be disappointed for sure.

Hopefully someone here in the comments can help me. I’m trying to find out if this game is playable on the Switch Lite without the use of the analog sticks. To make a long story short both of them snapped off and it heavily limits the amount of games I can play. I can still use the d-pad. I regret buying a Switch the first time so buying a second one is 100% out of the question. It’s spent the past two years or so dead in a drawer where it belongs but my sister bought me a gift card for my birthday and I couldn’t get any of my friends to take it so I was going to try to find something to spend it on.

I don't actually like most of the monster designs in this game. I've been spoiled by games like persona and pokemon. However, I think the offness and wrongness of the designs is to the game's benefit, as that's one of the motifs. I warmed up to it a lot more when I got that impression. The monsters aren't supposed to exist, so they may not feel right.

Jellyton makes me think of a Ben 10 transformation. The green jelly one. But thats a positive. I have loved all of the designs for this game so far.

Oh upon playing I found you can turn vocals off for tracks, so that potential negative is accounted for, although the vocals definitely grew on me.

The stamina system makes a lot of sense once you play the game move, to the point where it makes Bikes in Pokemon look slow.

I regret buying a Switch the first time so buying a second one is 100% out of the question. It’s spent the past two years or so dead in a drawer where it belongs but my sister bought me a gift card for my birthday and I couldn’t get any of my friends to take it so I was going to try to find something to spend it on.
I haven't tried it, but I am usually a dpad user and don't remember not being able to play without the sticks.
I want to say yes, all functions can be done with the dpad as well. You can also use the touch screen to select moves and such.

When it comes to a game being worth it discussion early story things is part of that. It is to be expected.
I don't actually like most of the monster designs in this game. I've been spoiled by games like persona and pokemon. However, I think the offness and wrongness of the designs is to the game's benefit, as that's one of the motifs. I warmed up to it a lot more when I got that impression. The monsters aren't supposed to exist, so they may not feel right.
