The paralyzed Dragonite was outspeeding you cause of a glitch (yes, incredible): if a paralyzed Pokemon uses Agility, the game will first reset his speed, and then apply the speed boost. This works the same with burned pokemon using Swords Dance. I know, gen I being gen I.
@@villagemarauder Yeah, unfortunately Kakuna, Caterpie, Metapod and Magikarp can only learn normal type moves so it's literally impossible for them to defeat any of the ghost types. Weedle gets poison sting so Kakuna could work if he allows pre-evolved moves, but he generally doesn't.
Tentacruel is the one part poison type pokemon that is not used by a gym leader or elite 4.(And Beedrill, but Beedrill doesn't count). Even Venomoth and Golbat got a spot in somebody's team.
I have to wonder... can the Gen 1 AI beat Gen 1? The player would decide what moves to learn, what pokemon to catch, and where to go, but trainer battles would be controlled by the game's "good" AI.
I'd add one more trick: you could pick whether it used good AI or bad AI. Though the main problem would be the logistics of setting this up. AI against AI isn't easy to make happen. The way with the least amount of hacking would require two Game Boys, but even that would require hacking one of the games a lot to give the trainer the player's team from the other game, and the player the trainer's team from the other game. And then we have the problem that enemy Pokemon have infinite PP, while the player Pokemon doesn't. You'd probably need to fix that, likely by letting the player have infinite PP, as giving the AI PP would likely make it not work properly, as it was designed for infinite PP. It might thus be easier to just hack a single game to change how battles work. I mean, either way will need someone good with code to change things.

I would say Caterpie but its only attacks are Tackle and Struggle which are both normal and he would literally be stuck either at Pokemon Tower or Agatha
@@kevmasengale6903 I forget if during his Magikarp run if that was the end or if he found a way past the trainers in the tower. Cause I know he made it to the e4, forget if the challenge was over and he just moved past it to see if he could get further or if he legitimately made it past that somehow
I predict that Flareon will be faster than Jolteon thanks to 130 base Attack letting him get past Brock quicker and -Dig for coverage giving him a better match up against later Rock types.- Edit: it can't learn that in Gen one turns out.
I would agree until the elite 4. Lorelei and Agatha would be trouble. No good moves to take out Ghost and especially Water since it does not get an electric attack. In some ways Flareon will do well against Lorelei due to Fire Blast being neutral but he will behind all of them in the Brock and Misty selection.
@@JamesSonOfBaboonzo Flareon can't learn dig in gen 1. And it's going to have an awful time with Misty right afterwards. And Giovanni. Then it won't have anything for Bruno, and Lorelei/Blastoise will be very scary. Not to mention it doesn't get a good fire move by level up until 54 or fire blast (post blaine)... Flareon gets to look pretty though!
Dragonite outsped because of a weird mechanic in Gen 1. When a Pokemon is burned or paralyzed, and then uses Agility or Swords Dance, the attack or speed drop from status is annulled.
Koga's only a Poison Gym because gym's had to have types. What he's actually meant to do is teach the player about how powerful statuses can be, and he lists his specific ones. Sleep, poison, confusion. His modus operandi is stalling and a death by a thousand cuts. And then end with Explosion if he's backed into a corner. Of course the AI isn't quite up to snuff, and teaching the player types led to the much more easily parsed gimmick of having each trainer be a specific type. They do this even worse with the Elite Four. Lorelei has that Slowbro for Disable, and she's meant to freeze you. In practice she almost never does and she just hits with Water/Ice power. Agatha is the closest to keeping to this trend, with Confuse Ray, Glare and Hypnosis in her wheelhouse. I was sort of hoping with better AI the Gen 3 remakes would do better with it. They kind of do, until they mess up in the postgame and just make everyone monotype. In game trainers are more interesting when they diverge from their one type a little to focus more on an aspect of the game. I wish they did it more like that.
I dont know if you made this video becuase of me asking in the last video but either way thanks before i even watch this man , i get to see my favourite pokemon of all time in a solo run
I love your content, thank you for doing what you do. It's one of the few good things of 2020. Also, you should have some sort of indicator on the tier list for min battles, like a star next to the name or something.
For that Lance fight, the reason Dragonite outsped after Agility even though it's paralyzed is because boosting a stat undoes the loss from a status affliction. So for example, when paralyzed Dragonite used Agility, its speed returned to normal and THEN was doubled. Same thing works with Burn and Swords Dance. I'm honestly a little shocked you didn't know that, I feel like it's less obscure than the Badge Boost Glitch.
I was also surprised he didn't know not to use Pin Missile against anything it's not x4 strong against that resists Thunderbolt. On average, Thunderbolt always does more damage to neutral targets than a x2 Pin Missile unless it gets a crit or hits at least 3 times. And even then, it has to have incredibly low defense. It's basically only good against Exeggutor and Venusaur.

5:32 i dont know if anyone already said that but the reason why the pikachu went first with the x-speed is the following: as you probably know the ai has to outspeed to use an item first and every ai trainer who has items has a chance to use them each turn (for healing items specific health requirements need to be met except for blaine). If they don't outspeed they'll use the item after your turn, however the speed check of the item use is effected by the priority of the move the pokemon would've used if they didn't use an item instead. So in this case pikachu would have used quick attack, thus going first but because an item was used he got priority on the x speed
You're easily my favorite channel on RUclips right now so glad I found you. That said, on any of your videos in the "how fast can you beat x Pokémon game with x Pokémon?" Series, the videos always have the same answer: reallllly fuckin slowly lol
If anyone is wondering, Agility (or any speed boosting move) removes the speed penalty from paralysis and boost speed. It’s also true for swords dance (or whatever) and burns.
To the ones not understanding how a paralysed dragonite outsped jolteon after 1 agility, even tho gen1 paralyse does a 1/4 speed modifier, it's simple : The same way as badge boosts triggers again after stat modifiers, stat-related shenanigans are fucked up in gen1. Speed boost from agility cancels COMPLETELY the speed drop from paralysis (the 1/4 chance of not attacking is still there tho) so dragonite there just had a clean x2 speed, thus outspeeding jolteon. For more info about all the stat-modifying glitches of gen1 (in fact, there is more about paralysis and burn), check on bulbapedia at the "generation 1 list of glitches", at the "Stat modification errors" part cheers and I love your content Jrose, everytime your videos are released is just a "alright, time to have a chill time for a bit". Thanks for your hard work, take care !
38:40 It's part of the underlying problem that causes the badge boost glitch. If a Paralyzed pokemon uses Agility it recalculates their stat from the base value and then forgets to reapply the stat drop from the status. Burned + attack boosting moves have the same effect.
Psywave does varying damage between 1 damage and 1.5 times user level so since Alakazam is level 43 it could do any damage between 1 and 64(rounded down). So since you lost 61 health you almost got hit by a max power Psywave.
About the “why does Koga have psychic users in his gym”, I think it’s because his gym is made of invisible barriers and, in canon, I guess you could say that is created by the psychic types.
38:00 - When you use Agility after paralysis, the 1/4 speed drop is negated AND THEN the double speed boost is applied. So Dragonite went from sluggish to double his full regular speed. Stumbled upon this one as a kid in Yellow and managed to intuit the gist of what happened with no real knowledge of Pokémon mechanics.
!!! Eevee getting the spotlight again! Of course this excites me, I'm the Eevee guy (literally)! Can't wait to see the other two, although I don't think Jolteon will be being beaten..
Was really hoping for and excited to see this run as Jolteon was one of my favorite Pokémon from Gen 1 (and still is to this day) -- I remember as a kid thinking Jolteon's having Double Kick and Pin Missile and having great speed made it really good, which was especially true in Gen 1 for the crit chance. I thought Double Kick and Pin Missile would make an impact in the run, and it was cool to see they turned out to be the difference in the final battle. Love your content!!
In gen 1 a stat boosting move will reset your stats to the base total and then gives you the stat boost. I.e. an agility used on a paralyzed Pokémon will return its speed back to base speed and then give it the speed boost on top of that. That’s why the Dragonite was able to outspeed you after a single agility, despite being paralyzed. The same applies to swords dance bypassing the attack drop of a burn and then gives you the normal +2 in attack.
It’s super interesting to see that you’ve spawned a lot of ‘how fast can I beat Pokemon _____ with (insert super strong Pokémon here)’ and I love it! Keep up the work man, I’ll be here to watch every video you put out

@@knuppel8875 Lol funny thing is video's like this kind of make Pokemon a joke. How easy it is to beat the entire game with one pokemon, no items etc really points out how easy these games were if you had a proper team. I always wondered why the difficulty level of pokemon games seemed so low.
38:40 I thought you already knew everything about gen 1 but even you learn new stuff. When you use a stat boosting move, it nullifies the stat drop from burn/paralysis and the stat drop goes to the other Pokémon which is why the dragonite out sped the jolteon
The reason why Dragonite was outspeeding you near 38:48 was that it was paralyzed, and then used Agility. In gen 1, when a Pokemon is afflicted by paralysis or burn and it uses a Speed or Attack boosting move, the nerf from the status condition will actually get overwritten and the Pokemon will gain the boosts from its move as if it was at +0! Great video as always! 💜
The paralyzed Dragonite was outspeeding you cause of a glitch (yes, incredible): if a paralyzed Pokemon uses Agility, the game will first reset his speed, and then apply the speed boost.

As a sorta consistent fan of your content, I wanted to bring something up I rarely see elsewhere. It's a breath of fresh air watching you do these challenge runs since it feels so obvious that you're having fun with each and every one of them which is something I don't get to see often and it makes watching you a very pleasent experience. Thanks for the now dozens of hours of entertainment you've given me and many more to come
Ayy Jrose, really appreciate the effort you put on these. ESPECIALLY after hearing you on streams too, you really do dedicate a lot of time just to edit these videos. Like god damn, mad respect.

Me about 20 minutes in: Hey, Jolteon is actually doing quite well!
*Realizes how much time is left*
Me now: Uh oh-
That was my reaction as well.
The secret is to let the time bar disappear, then you're in genuine suspense for whether he wins or not
@@loulou3676 It is just so hard not to look...
I love how exciting your narration gets, keeps me metaphorically on the edge of my seat. Looking forward to how the rest of the eeveelutions go if you're willing
I love your thumbnails so much! The amount of small details is just too cool!
Three fully-evolved mons in like, a week and a half?
Alright, which ridiculously-difficult first-stage are you putting off?
Probably Weedle tbh
I would say Caterpie but its only attacks are Tackle and Struggle which are both normal and he would literally be stuck either at Pokemon Tower or Agatha
@@morgastic23 can't make it to Agatha without going through the tower....
@@kevmasengale6903 I forget if during his Magikarp run if that was the end or if he found a way past the trainers in the tower. Cause I know he made it to the e4, forget if the challenge was over and he just moved past it to see if he could get further or if he legitimately made it past that somehow
@@morgastic23 struggle is type less in Gen1, no?
“I’m at a nice amount of health”
Calling it now Vaporeon wins by 20 minutes with Jolteon in 2nd place and Flareon will be 15 minutes behind Jolteon.
I think Jolteon might be the fastest
I predict that Flareon will be faster than Jolteon thanks to 130 base Attack letting him get past Brock quicker and -Dig for coverage giving him a better match up against later Rock types.-
Edit: it can't learn that in Gen one turns out.
Oh, oh no. Flareon is probably going to be barely better than bulbasaur.. If that
I would agree until the elite 4.
Jrose, somehow your voice has become the default narration voice whenever I’m doing something mundane. Have you considered selling voicelines for GPS?
Dragonite outsped because of a weird mechanic in Gen 1. When a Pokemon is burned or paralyzed, and then uses Agility or Swords Dance, the attack or speed drop from status is annulled.
Gen 1, gas a glitched mechanic? That's unheard of!

Me: *cough* abra *cough*
2 videos in 3 days? Man, Jrose is spoiling us
Dude you have been pumping out videos like crazy and I’m loving it
For that Lance fight, the reason Dragonite outsped after Agility even though it's paralyzed is because boosting a stat undoes the loss from a status affliction.
Every time you say "bye bye Muk" I get the Everly Bros' "Bye Bye Love" stuck in my head.
And I laughed at "Bye Bye Birdie"
Jrose be doing God's work. Happy Thanksgiving!

@Jrose11 - I've been recovering from surgery and and while being bedridden the last 8 days I've been binge watching all your pokemon 1st and 2nd gen runs. Coupled with the nostalgia I have for the games, I really enjoy watching you and the narrations you give. Thanks mate. Looking forward to every new one you post. Keen to watch this one now.
I'd love to see you go through the first gen with one of it's gods, Tauros
i've been stuck in hospital for the last 2 months and these videos are literally the best for when I'm sitting in bed just trying to pass the time and watch something cosy. thanks a ton, jrose. hope you never stop pumpin out the content xxx
Be well
Hell yeah, I was rooting hard for Pin Missile.
For some reason, I always got so lucky with this attack as a kid.
I love Pin Missile on Jolteon. I always thought Sandslash should have it as well since that would give it something unique and potentially useful
Jrose: *Is fighting Lance*
Me: *sees there's almost 15 minutes of video left*
Me: oh no
You're easily my favorite channel on RUclips right now so glad I found you. That said, on any of your videos in the "how fast can you beat x Pokémon game with x Pokémon?" Series, the videos always have the same answer: reallllly fuckin slowly lol
Can't sleep due a really bad anxiety but with your videos I'm able to finally sleep, not because they're boring but because they're relaxing
If anyone is wondering, Agility (or any speed boosting move) removes the speed penalty from paralysis and boost speed. It’s also true for swords dance (or whatever) and burns.
Jrose when any minor inconvenience happens: nOOOO
To the ones not understanding how a paralysed dragonite outsped jolteon after 1 agility, even tho gen1 paralyse does a 1/4 speed modifier, it's simple :
The same way as badge boosts triggers again after stat modifiers, stat-related shenanigans are fucked up in gen1. Speed boost from agility cancels COMPLETELY the speed drop from paralysis (the 1/4 chance of not attacking is still there tho) so dragonite there just had a clean x2 speed, thus outspeeding jolteon.
For more info about all the stat-modifying glitches of gen1 (in fact, there is more about paralysis and burn), check on bulbapedia at the "generation 1 list of glitches", at the "Stat modification errors" part
cheers and I love your content Jrose, everytime your videos are released is just a "alright, time to have a chill time for a bit". Thanks for your hard work, take care !
Dragonite outspeeding when paralyzed is because of the agility boost ignores the paralysis the speed drop
wrong it brings it back up to normal L2 POKEMON
38:40 It's part of the underlying problem that causes the badge boost glitch. If a Paralyzed pokemon uses Agility it recalculates their stat from the base value and then forgets to reapply the stat drop from the status. Burned + attack boosting moves have the same effect.
You already know this is gonna be a good video.
Ooooh a new jrose video on a rainy evening just hits different. Happy Thanksgiving everyone
Last time i was this early, you still called Rival Fival, Rival Five
truly dark times
when was the last time?
At 38:50 dragonite outspeeds you cuz of a glitch that happens if you use agility when paralyzed
I love the "eeveelution" rating
It must take a lot of endurance to narrate one of these videos. But you also make it entertaining to listen to. I respect that.
23 minutes at the elite 4: oh, we're almost done
Only halfway there: well, shit
Psywave does varying damage between 1 damage and 1.5 times user level so since Alakazam is level 43 it could do any damage between 1 and 64(rounded down). So since you lost 61 health you almost got hit by a max power Psywave.
About the “why does Koga have psychic users in his gym”, I think it’s because his gym is made of invisible barriers and, in canon, I guess you could say that is created by the psychic types.
*offical l2 english*
Cant wait to see how fast Metapod can beat the game.
Can't hit Ghosts
Oh man. It only gets harden, string shot, tackle and struggle. That's only if you learn tackle and string shot before you evolve it btw.
Is anyone else addicted to this guys commentary??
Okay, now you’re spoiling us. I love it
Do you mind me asking, is that your real hair? It’s gorgeous! I want that colour.
@@tetrisgoat aww thank you! It was, it's a different color now though
Babe wake up, new Jrose11 vid is up
It’s super interesting to see that you’ve spawned a lot of ‘how fast can I beat Pokemon _____ with (insert super strong Pokémon here)’ and I love it! Keep up the work man, I’ll be here to watch every video you put out
Funny thinking I have watched the Pokemon anime for years, kept up on several channels like this that do weird things with pokemon... Never played the game in my life cause I didn't own a Gameboy.
You could always download visualadvance emulator and some pokemon red/blue/gold/crystal roms. Takes like 5 minutes and winrar. Relive your never experienced childhood memories.
A wise piece of bread said asked about the fossil. It's good for the algorithm
Agility negates the decline in speed from paralysis and then raises speed.
wrong it birngs it back to normal lv
