I've rewatched this a few times, there are some good lines in it. The one about doing the run justice by faking out twice with loreilei, the beauty of youtube, acknowledging the good ol dig into self destruct, the hold every ticket and all are winners. Banger episode.
I love it Deleting thunderbolt to avoid grinding, despite knowing for a fact that you'll need to grind soon anyway, and thunderbolt would make your life much easier vs the very next trainer, we've all done it
This is maybe my favorite video yet in the solo Pokémon run challenges! Thank you for including so many failed battles, not only do they give us a better feel for how the run actually went, but also if I don’t check the time remaining in the video, there is actual suspense about the result of the battle! Which I love!
Tauros won't be able to; his only move until level 21 is Tackle, and at level 21 he then gets... Stomp, and he doesn't learn a move to avoid building Onix's Bide until he gets Tail Whip at level 28. Tauros will destroy everything after Brock, but he is going to be stuck for so long at Brock that he won't be able to catch up to Mewtwo, the birds, and could even finish behind the highest ranked first stages. The other broken Normal types, Chansey and Snorlax, won't be able to match Mewtwo either because of Gen 1 early movepool problems, but they do get better options than Tauros for dealing with Brock and could make a run similar to Zapdos.
@@toumabyakuya3498 It does learn a buttload of non-normal type moves, like a lot of other gen 1 normal-type Pokémon. Stuff like Blizzard, Fire Blast and Thunderbolt if I remember right.
I love how the final rival fight uses battle animations even when it’s turned off. I’ll always turn my speed down from 2x to 1x for it so I can enjoy the music as well. Such a great piece
OK, so I got here from ProtoMario. I love pokemon videos and especially the older games and series. First, I´d like to write, that this video was fun to watch, as well as it was fun to hear. Great voice and great speaking! Strong combo. BUT, to be fair, I was I bit frustrated during the video as well. I read some comments and I am surprised, that no one sees, that JRose uses Rattatas strong points quite badly. I mean, critical hit is luck, for sure, but it is a thing and it plays its role. Rattata might be bad pokemon overall, but his potential is actually very high! His speed makes up for his generally bad defence. Higher chance of crit hit is sort of a "bonus" to it - so use it! Second thing is his move set. Having a combo like hyper fang - quick attack, super fang - hyper fang, or even super fang - quick attack is so good! Yet, it was replaced too soon. As well, as these moves works at early stages pretty well with Rattatas tail whip too, when it´s needed. I would see a problem for Rattata beating Misty´s Starmie, Erika´s Victreebel, Sabrina´s Alakazam, Koga´s Weezing and Giovanni´s Rhydon. Of course with the move set I mentioned. Still, I WOULD NOT DROP it out - WHY? With replacing tail whip for bubblebeam (or dig, which is actually smarter for battles, but worse for training) those four moves makes more than fine line. Other battles should Rattata definitely be able to win. Third thing - in "only run" using rare candys? What kind of crappy stategy is that? I understand, that with doing such videos time flies a lot, but if you train on certain places, you train pretty fast as well. Great spot generally is Diglett´s tunnel, and good spot for Rattata would be place with Voltorbs next to Rock tunnel. Later a spot with Fearows and Raticates next to Fuchsia. After training got on bike and you´re in PK Center right away, but even without it it´s just a little time to reach the Centers... And if you feel like a weaker trainer, there is nothing easier than overtrain Rattata at the begining in Viridian forest and then battleing every trainer on the road. It´s not such a big time deal. Which of course will save you money for potions etc... and these money you can use for HP UP, carbos, iron, protein and calcium later! No rare candys, making Rattata actually worse than by regular training. Sell it and buy HP UP/PROTEIN instead! Also... body slam is really a good move, stronger than hyper fang... BUT on "two shot" battles it´s better to stay with HF. Flinch is flinch, paralysis is better for longer battles... and then again, that is not sure either. Better think twice. Generally might be better to overtrain Rattata for first two gyms, then beat quickly Surge and Erika. Yes, even Victreebel. With a bit of luck you can beat it with that combo of super fang and hyper fang. With a different luck with these two, flinch and another HF/QA... It may sound that you play a risk, but Victreebel´s crit hit with razor leaf is what? Both is a risk. You may loose 4 times in a row and you may even win 4 times in a row. Of course you have to know, how to use these combos. As well, as move like dig. Dig is better as a finnishing move, than a starting one! I mean, the combo SF-RF will very much stay till the Elite four, but for Koga and Sabrina you need to train a bit more, or prepare for it carefully. Beating Sabrina is simply the thing of speed, so I would first beat Koga, then I might consider replacing that hyper fang with body slam, if I would´nt want to train so hard. It might even be a better choice for Givoanni, but like I wrote... that depends... on Giovanni it sure will need a plan and a backup for any case... From there, it´s a game of tanks or strong moves, so changing attacks might start here, if you´re not great strategist. I didn´t mentioned rival, since I don´t think that any of his pokemon, except for Gyarados and Exeguttor are different to prepare for. And yes, dig or bubblebeam would not make a good choice to battle them with. So on these two is actually better to start up putting your luck in game with hyper fang and then "hammering" them with it. Elite four is a different game. Still, I would consider at least sticking with super fang (even though I like HF more). In battles with Dewgong, Cloyster, Slowbro, Machamp or even Dragonite it is still a great attack, that you can rely on as a start up. But, you would need a luck, or not overusing this. On Rattata it would be a too big risk at this point. Using it in the middle of the battle (2nd, 3rd...) might not get you to actually win the battle... And as JRose planned it, as we heard with that explanation on thunderbolt, I would definitely pick strong electric type move as one. Lorelai, Golbat, Pidgeot and Blastoise need this attack to feel on them. Dig and blizzard were awesome as well, problem was, that JRose didn´t use dig right in many battles. Too bad for him...And blizzard and it´s chance of freezing opponent is all you need for all kinds of turn around. You might set up with healing, x-items... So, I must say, that JRose is great youtuber, but not that great pokemon trainer. :-D Sorry, if that is a bit over the line, but he really thought a lot about typing strategies, but he forgot, that in this game there is much more, how to beat the game much easier. A shame. Overall, like I´ve mentioned, I enjoyed. Better "luck" next time! :-)
Watching through from the beginning, Blastiose seems to be the final boss of these solo runs. So many crushing defeats at the champion have come from him.
I've been watching this series since the beginning, and I honestly wasn't expecting Rattata to do very well, but I guess that goes to show the stat EXP system of Gen 1, alongside Rattata's massive coverage movepool and the badge boosts, allows it to skate through much of the game without as much difficulty as one might expect

@@stampedetrombone low special becomes irrelevant at lvl 44 (learns amnesia). It also wouldnt challenge gastly because gastly was done in minimum battles. No chance of that with slowpoke. It'd still need to grind for misty, erika, surge, the logjam of koga/silph co rival. WOW. i would have NEVER expected rattata to do so well. this was such a fun run to watch and you really are a great narrator! you never give away the results of something with your tone, which is SO easy to do when narrating events you already know the outcome of in advance and yet possibly even MORE impressive is how you manage to pull this off while still giving an excited, enthusiastic narration! its easy not to give things away if your narration is monotone throughout, but your narration is so fun and full of life! ...anyway, yeah ahaha. great video as always 👍

There's a reason blue has a rattata in the early game. It's a really overlooked Pokémon due to being on the first route. It's only the late game it struggles, but like blue that's when you should be using better Pokémon
The funny thing is that from gen 3 on, raticate is insanely good due to guts. You can just poison it in viridian forest or something, heal it up, and sweep every battle
Since gastly won, you should do a bonus with his evolutions to see how they stack up in comparison! Don’t evolve them, just start with level 5 haunter and gengar, so they do not use move sets from gastly etc. I think you should do that for the winner in each generation you do!

Amazing run
✅
Oh wow you watch Jrose11, didnt see that coming Proto
I like the idea of his rival catching and training the most powerful pokemon in the world and losing to a Rattata
How DARE you name the Rival “MDB” and not tell us which fossil you took, thus increasing comments asking for that information and affecting the algorithm.
I wonder what fossil Jrose took. This comment is good for the RUclips algorithm.
Maybe because this joke isnt funny anymore?
Whats next, saying "Water-Onix" instead of Gyarados?
he once said that he always picks helix because it's faster
I’m glad I’m not the only one that noticed that lol
@@ovoss89 I just like how MDB makes things harder, and sometimes impossible, simply because he doesn't know what he's doing and picks strategies based almost entirely on bad assumptions and dodgy math.

This is way too brutal lol
Another great video! The defeat in Jrose's voice after he loses to Blastoise is honestly comical. What an absolutely fantastic narrator
I've rewatched this a few times, there are some good lines in it. The one about doing the run justice by faking out twice with loreilei, the beauty of youtube, acknowledging the good ol dig into self destruct, the hold every ticket and all are winners. Banger episode.
I love it
Deleting thunderbolt to avoid grinding, despite knowing for a fact that you'll need to grind soon anyway, and thunderbolt would make your life much easier vs the very next trainer, we've all done it
This is maybe my favorite video yet in the solo Pokémon run challenges! Thank you for including so many failed battles, not only do they give us a better feel for how the run actually went, but also if I don’t check the time remaining in the video, there is actual suspense about the result of the battle! Which I love!
Lance: I am the master of dragons! Your challenge ends with me.
Youngster Joey: 🐀🔪
"Yeah so this kid in shorts and a buff rattata swept through us" -Elite 4
Thanks Jrose for this quality Youngster Joey roleplay
Still waiting for the Tauros, the king of Gen1, run. Anxious to see if it can beat Mewtwo or at least get close.
@@OmegaTyrant It's nice to dream though...
@@OmegaTyrant Tell me something, does Tauros learn any non-Normal offensive move at all? Otherwise Lavender Tower ends its run.
@@toumabyakuya3498 I think it learns surf at one point.

Anyone else realise that the rival was called MDB or Mah Dry Bread?
Yes 🤣
I was checking comments to see if anyone else noticed
Yeah, I laughed when I saw that.
I noticed it was MDB but didn't make the connection
Super funny
Oof that misclick on the blastoise hurt. That fight was going so smoothly
Watching through from the beginning, Blastiose seems to be the final boss of these solo runs. So many crushing defeats at the champion have come from him.
This is by far my favorite series on RUclips. I know it’s been a slog, but I’d love to see you finish it.
Agatha: I fear no pokemon.

Agatha Slight revision to what I said.
I love that you called yourself Joey! Let's see if your Rattata is actually one of the top % Rattata
"Except it's the lottery where I hold every ticket. And they're all winners" was great. good delivery.
I already look forward to Chansey only.
No, S T A R Y U.

My favorite Pokemon
Chanseys actually really good in gen 1 cos it has like 110 special attack and defence
SUPRISE in gen 1 chansey had a high enough special that when it can learn special attacks the run will begin. Though the early game will be hell
I appreciate your extra narration for listeners. Your videos are getting me through yard work renovations during quarantine. Keep up the great work! Thanks so much!

These videos are so fun. Not only is it interesting to see how the go, but your commentary and personality are brilliant and hilarious. Thanks, man.
When you do these, do you ever accidentally let the Pokemon evolve and have to backtrack but just cut that out of the video?
I ask that to myself every time I see the evolution screen 😅
@@watashiboku7225 Or just wish he had an Everstone.

I'd really like to see porygon next. Or you can never out-speed anyone and go for slowpoke.
Slowpoke would be top 3 best for the e4, helluva struggle to get there though
Slowpoke has amnesia. As soon as it gets it the run might as well be GG
Which is why I want to see a slowpoke run. Even with the badge boost glitch I'm wondering if slowpoke will be able to outspeed other pokemon, or will he be able to challenge gastly with his superior move set, including confusion to start, high HP, but lower special and terrible speed.
The only real difference is a relatively easy e4 but even then agatha would still be a lottery and it might not survive set up moves on lance and the champion
WOW. i would have NEVER expected rattata to do so well. this was such a fun run to watch
and you really are a great narrator! you never give away the results of something with your tone, which is SO easy to do when narrating events you already know the outcome of in advance
and yet possibly even MORE impressive is how you manage to pull this off while still giving an excited, enthusiastic narration! its easy not to give things away if your narration is monotone throughout, but your narration is so fun and full of life!
...anyway, yeah ahaha. great video as always 👍

I love the voice acting you make on the mistakes! It is so perfectly the actual reaction you'd have while playing
Youngster Joey: My Rattata is the most elite among Rattata. Die
Jrose: Nobody owns a Rattata except you... Well, and now me.
For some reason when you talked about youngster Joey it brought back memories of the good old wifi battle days with TheShadowProjekt. Miss his videos.
Luckily we still have great people like you to rely on for older pokemon videos with exciting battles.
Egg and rhyhorn is not better
Ngl, these videos are why I got Pokemon Yellow again. Keep up the good work mate.
Since gastly won, you should do a bonus with his evolutions to see how they stack up in comparison! Don’t evolve them, just start with level 5 haunter and gengar, so they do not use move sets from gastly etc. I think you should do that for the winner in each generation you do!
you actually _are_ a narrative genius, jrose! i can't watch other poketubers since i've found you, they are just now good and precise and funny enough! keep up the good work!
I say yes. Rattata is kinda underrated (especially in Nuzlockes)
You kind of are a master of narration. I know how much harder than it seems it is to do the stellar editing and commenting and you keep it so entertaining!
The master of colour pallets, nails it every time!
What about the poliwag color palette?
Glad to have more of these episodes.
I like the narrative style. I never look at time remaining to spoil myself, and I love watching you struggle on Elite 4. I hope every time that you lose until you get a consistent strategy.
