@@unwithering5313 Lol the crit moves in Gen 1 aren't broken. Maybe if better Pokemon got them. Venasaur, Victreebel and Persian, and Kingler are the only ones that benefit a lot from it.
Hello Jrose, how is it going. I think your strategy this time was suboptimal and didn't really made use of the full potential of Slowpoke. I've actually done this challenge myself before and I managed to win at level 69 (leveled just after beating Venusaur) and the main reason is one move that Slowpoke learns and is super useful in this run: Earthquake. While it has the same power as Dig, it made the Agatha fight much more consistent because it 1HKOs both Gengar and the Haunter without needing to set up Amnesia and without spending more turns confused like with Dig, which gives you much more tries at Lance. He is very difficult ironically because his "good IA" is actually good, he doesn't use barrier or agility because Slowpoke is a Psychic type. The second mistake was teaching Surf, not being able to get rid of it is huge in runs like this and it isn't actually that good because the Elite 4 pokemon weak to it are also weak to Ice Beam and Blizzard (with the exception of Arcanine, but you can 1HKO it with Psychic after 3 amnesia). Having the extra move gives you room for things like reflect, mimic or even substitute. In the end Slowpoke is not as good as Poliwag, but it's definitely better than Bulbasaur, so I'd say the final rank was accurate. I enjoy your content a lot so don't take this criticism as an attack or anything, please keep producing quality content and forgive me for any grammatical mistakes, English is not my first language.

Honestly with how luck-based the "not razor leaf" thing became with venusaur, I think you easily could have just saved at the rival instead of grinding levels. I know its not a thing you like doing, but you even said you didn't lose a single time at any of the other pokemon and then just kept getting rancid luck at the final hurdle.
I will disagree. He has a 33% chance of losing everytime. That's pretty huge. It's a luck based strategy for slowpoke to beat the game, and that should rank it lower imo. It certainly will take more time if you have to reset if you lose.
@@hihi-rg9vv 33% chance of losing every time meaning 66% chance of that not happening. The fact that it KEPT happening many times in a row is more on his luck than his strategy. Every single other member of the elite four but Lorelei I think gave him problems in one run or another. Even Bruno got victories this time. He never lost to the rival at anything but Venusaur and that was only because he kept getting Razor Leaf'd and that one unlucky crit on Mega Drain. *shrugs In the end he didn't even win off levels. He won because it didn't hit him with razor leaf. He could have gone to 100 and that might still have been the case. The final battle was 100% luck, so therefore a save before the rival until he didn't get razor'd would have been totally acceptable IMO.
@@ArchfiendRai You might want to rewatch the video though. He only got hit by razor leaf like 3 times and he was also knocked out by megadrain. He simply needed quite a bit of luck for all the things to happen to win. Also let's not forget he needed plenty of luck too to avoid getting hyperbeamed to death by Lance. The fact that it took so many tries to get through to Lance should tell you something.
I just did this with Yellow! The only real trouble i think i had, apart from his low speed, was beating the elite 4 in one shot. Love your vids man! Thanks for influencing me to do some gen 1 challenges of my own

I've wondered what slowpoke tails actually taste like? Does it feel pain in its tail? Does that mean slowbro is in constant pain? If it doesn't, then why is it bad that Team Rocket wants to profit off of pokemon? We do that with battling. Does that mean pay day is bad?
I'm pretty sure Slowpoke doesn't feel anything in its tail, and that it grows back. I don't think the problem with the tail harvesting was stated, but I'd imagine that, if it were stated, it would be that they were being jerks about it rather than caring for the Slowpokes and making sure their tails grow back properly. The message that people and Pokemon are supposed to help eachother out is a pretty big thing for the series.
-Slowpoke tails ooses out a sweet sap, that's how Slowpoke fishes. People in Alola dry the tail and simmer it with salt. -It doesn't feel pain in its tail if its bitten or taken off, also it sometimes falls off on its own. It actually grows back and Slowpoke don't even notice. -Slowbro can't feel pain actually because the Shellder on its tail is poisoning him to both make him stand on his legs and not feel any pain. The shellder keeps biting Slowbro's tail because it loves its taste, if it ever comes off, Slowbro becomes a regular Slowpoke again. -As for Team Rocket, i guess it's because Slowpoke's tail is necessary to him unlike coins from Pay Day which is useless for Pokémons.
Hey Jrose, love your videos - you probs won't see this, but I did manage to actually do the solo-run with Slowpoke under minimum battles. Brock was a little RNG dependent for confusion to trigger, but is definitely possible at minimum battles. Otherwise, same thing with rival 2, perhaps my Slowpoke had better Special DVs though, which could be why I managed to do it. One thing I feel like you did overlook was the TM for Thunder Wave on Route 24; it definitely made the mid-portion of the run a lot more manageable and consistent for me, though Rival 5 and Erika still gave me trouble. It also works great in conjunction with Headbutt for ParaFlinching, plus it lets you outspeed stuff that would normally give you problems. I did eventually replace it with Amnesia though. In the end, I ended up with a Level 46 Slowpoke at the entrance of the Elite Four. I was also following your rule of doing the whole E4 without saving btw. While I wanted to see how far I'd go without Rare Candies, Lorelei wasn't consistent at all so I used my candies to get Slowpoke up to Level 55. From there, both Lorelei and Bruno were consistent. Even though Slowpoke was only Level 58 at Agatha, I had actually found a way to make it pretty consistent (not perfect, but good enough), which was just to set-up one Amnesia before spamming Psychic. While it doesn't KO Gengar in one hit, I found that it puts it in Super Potion range so it basically guaranteed the kill. The only times it'd really fail for me is if Slowpoke fell asleep and took too long to wake up. However, Lance was basically impossible at that level because Slowpoke can't take consecutive Hyper Beams very well. I also tried Reflect strategies like you did, but Gyarados was always a massive brick wall because I could never set-up without dying. Even when I got lucky, the furthest I would get is up to Dragonite, so I did end up resorting to Double Team but *only* this fight, and I only did so because I wanted to preserve the minimum battle challenge. Without Double Team for minimum battles, I definitely do think what you ended up with is an accurate result of using Slowpoke. Besides that, the Champion was also fairly straightforward. Like in your video, it was basically an easy run to Venusaur and just hoping it wouldn't use Razor Leaf. I didn't use Mimic, but I think it would have also worked. In the end, with my strats I managed to beat the league twice consecutively without saving. In the end, I managed to beat the game with a Level 61 Slowpoke - definitely a fun but challenging run. Overall, I definitely feel like a lack of Electric-type coverage really hampered Slowpoke's success (I always hated encountering Gyarados because of it) and it has a disadvantage against Poliwag due to lack of Hypnosis as well. That said, I do think Slowpoke is one of the best solo-run mons for unevolved Pokemon in R/B. :) Thanks for inspiring me to do the run!

What pokemon have you done runs with?
@@chillinsquirtle just started so I’ve done Samurott, Krookodile, Thundurus, and I’m currently doing Altaria.
@@Apsburner9717 nice I did mudkip and blazekin in emerald, pretty far in a breloom run currently
Jrose you are so awesome for making these videos, the nostalgia hits so hard and I swear I could listen to your voice talk about anything. I hope you get as much joy out of making them as I do watching them, thank you❤️
YAY I WAS WAITING FOR THIS!!!
5:20 Damn, nice smash cut! Your editing is getting more refined with every video!
I honestly love this show
I don't know if you realize this, but these 8-bit videos are a godsend to those of us with bad internet. If I try to watch a typical youtube video, it takes forever and looks pretty harsh.
So thanks jrose11, you're a real bro
"Oh man, he's made it to victory road. Let's see how much close to the end we are. . Ogod no."
Boy howdy 2020 still isn't done with Jrose having half of the video be E4 battles. :(
I'm always waiting in desperation for the next video from you coming out, keep this cool content going! You're doing great :)
A funny thing happened... I was playing a Pokémon game while watching this and we both lost to ridiculously bad RNG at the exact same moment.
27:38 this is gold. I can't think of a more narrow way to lose a battle. Megadrain's crit negated the Amnesia and was just enough.
Posted two minutes ago. I clicked so fast. ... How inappropriate.
?
@@Zaderos cause its a *slow*poke run
@@keeganhughes6947 omg I feel dumb now
Breezing through Lorelei at the 18 minute mark and then pausing to see 25 minutes left was a kick in the head. Jeez
That was a good run but I'm waiting on that Chansey run and Snorlax too
Yesss just in time!
I've binge watched all of these challenge videos
26:28 - well, with how much is left in the video, this is looking really painful lol.
I love these videos so much! Perfect to get to sleep to
I was just rewatching an older one of these, thinking about how it had been awhile
Only found your content this week, its awesome. Really enjoy it thanks man!
P.s
We need a Taurus video!
I'm happy you're back to doin the OG preevolved. I've been watching the other videos, but I'm excited to see a full tier list of the non evolved Pokemon.
Edit: I think Slowpoke should have been wedged between Bulba, and Pika. It seems like you had less headache with Bulba, and it being one of the first videos could have ended up in a slower time. With the problems, combined with the higher level. Just my thoughts.
I think ghastly's place at the top is safe
@@bubblewrapvillain I think so too.
20:00 It's fascinating how good you are at commenting in a way that raises hope, then despair, then hope, then joy then despair then wtf. It's a talent.
Seeing that he beats Giovanni for the Earth Badge 15 minutes in and there is almost 30 minutes left.
I've been waiting for these to come back!
HI Jrose! I just found your channel recently and I have been hooked, binging so many of your really well made challenge runs. I love your content keep it up! I can’t really donate so I hope my sub is enough to support you ❤️
I highly recommended not forgetting his older ones with Magikarps!
@@Zaderos Thanks I’ll look into them!
“Hmmmm it’s been a while since we had a classic Kanto run. What’s taking so long?”
*it’s Slowpoke*
“ohhhhh lol”
(Should've just one-shotted the Zubats in Mt. Moon inseatd of trying to run 5 times. Might've even helped with rival nr. 2 :D)
Would mess with the exp economy JRose likes to have at the early parts of these runs
Confusion doesnt scale with youre pokemon i think.
@@kowikowi7060 You are thinking of Psywave =)
Imagine being one of the mythical dragons of the famed Elite Four Lance, dragon master, and getting outsped by a Pokemon called "Slowpoke"
*shrugs
In the end he didn't even win off levels.
I'm so hooked on these!! Everytime a new one comes out I drop everything and watch
Venusaur with razor leaf: "I'm about to end this man's whole career"
Jrose, I always look forward to these. The perfect mental vacation.Thank you brother!
Omg I was so scared he had given up on this series
Earlier today i was thinking: Man, a Jrose video would be great...
And here we are, thank you!
I missed the first form runs! Let’s go!!!
Thanks for uploading. This is will now cheer me up after realizing I had homework due tomorrow and I can’t finish it
Clicked slower than Slowpoke holding a Lagging Tail!
I just did this with Yellow! The only real trouble i think i had, apart from his low speed, was beating the elite 4 in one shot. Love your vids man! Thanks for influencing me to do some gen 1 challenges of my own
Thank you for my fix JRose. That is all
1.00 in the morning in Germany and i have to work tomorrow. Thx for less sleep. But honestly thanks for these videos. I did my first Gen 2 Run because of your videos. It was so much fun.
I've wondered what slowpoke tails actually taste like? Does it feel pain in its tail? Does that mean slowbro is in constant pain? If it doesn't, then why is it bad that Team Rocket wants to profit off of pokemon? We do that with battling. Does that mean pay day is bad?
It is unethical because Slowpoke use their tail to fish. They are too slow to catch any pray without it. Wild Slowpoke w/o tail will starve to death.
Aww yeah I found your channel last week and just finished bingeing all your videos in time for this one to come out
Well hey! I actually just checked your channel earlier. Must have willed it into existence.
ayy thanks bro
"If we look at the chart, I mean, most Pokemon were able to do this in the sixties." Only five out of eighteen, actually. And two of those were level 69 ayyyyy
Nice
24:47 Actually playing Emerald while watching this and exactly when you said that, my opponent hit itself in confusion.
