You see, Rival 6 was ACTUALLY too smart for his own good. He foresaw a future in which Jigglypuff would become a Fairy‐type. Fairies are weak to Poison, and Poisonpowder IS a Poison-type move. Therefore it was CLEARLY the best choice to spam the move with a someday-super-effective type. His is truly one of the terrifyingly greatest minds of our time.

11:10 For some reason, whenever I fight a koffing (or wheezing) and don't have a psychic move (or ground type on Gen1 before levitate), I also use an electric move like thunderbolt. Even though I know it's not extra effective, and that most other types including normal would be just as effective. I have no idea why, maybe it subconsciously makes sense since it's floating in the air. I'm so glad I'm not the only one! 😂
I watched a Video yesterday, where someone did beat the game with just a weedle. It is in german though and it required a massive amount of reloading for every single member of the elite 4 + Champion. But it shows: it is actually possible.
I've seen the video (but not watched it yet). I don't understand how It's possible. With a perfect weedle I could never get past the last Giovanni, and absolutely no further.
The amount of luck in this run was absolutely wild, and at some points almost necessary to save time level grinding. Have you done a Mankey solo run yet? I don't see it on the playlist but I could have missed it elsewhere. It could pose a massive challenge: - It only learns Low Kick in Yellow, so you wouldn't have it in Red/Blue against Brock. - Its level up moves are all Normal type aside from Seismic Toss at 33. - The only damaging moves it can learn by TM that aren't Normal or Fighting are Toxic, Dig, Rock Slide, and Thunder/bolt, which gives it pretty bad type coverage. - Dig is arguably the only consistently good TM choice (Rock Slide is unreliably inaccurate and Mankey has abysmal Special), though Toxic could potentially be helpful in the late game. - Its attack and speed are fairly good for a first-form, but the rest of its stats leave a lot to be desired. - Charmander as the rival's starter would probably be the hardest: -- Charizard has super effective STAB, is immune to Dig, resists Fighting, and is only weak to Rock Slide and Thunder/bolt (again, the former is inaccurate and Mankey has super low Special) -- The rival would also have Gyarados (same points as Charizard aside from SE STAB) and Exeggutor (a fairly bulky Psychic type). The only major battles that don't seem difficult on paper are Surge, Giovanni, and Lorelei (Slowbro will spam Amnesia and the rest are weak to Fighting); with stats and movepool in mind, even *Bruno* could be a challenge. I would love to see you pull this off.
I really love the whole series you‘re doing. In fact I love it so much, I immediately knew which run you were talking about (where you discovered he has 5 full heal) :D already looking forward to the next runs :)
3:00 -- "Why would anyone use a Weedle" Funny enough, in Gen 1 games, I don't know if it is a glitch, but Poison type moves have a significantly higher probability rate of poisoning Pokemon that resist "Poison" attacks, excluding Poison types themselves since they cannot get Poisoned. So I personally frequently used Weedle/Kakuna/Beedril against Brock, especially when the Onix uses "Bide" in certain versions. I averaged a "Poison" status condition about 75% of every use of Poison-Sting against Rock-Type Pokemon throughout the game... ^^^Since that only ever happens in 1st Gen games, I always simply assumed it was a glitch somehow. Or it might be related to Speed akin to "Critical Hits" since all Rock-Type Pokemon are slower than Beedrill in-particular! Needless to say, poisoning Brock's Pokemon made facing him during the early game massively easier; because even if he cures the poisoning, that would simply give me a free turn to use "Poison-Sting" again. It is a surprisingly useful strategy.........
@@mistermr2147, Such as what? Are you wanting game coding?? Or are you simply wanting video proof??? Frankly, I don't know what I can provide that would convince you to be honest. Because if you don't believe me, then my best advise is to simply try it out for yourself. I'm fairly certain it was exclusively a "Gen 1" issue where any type that "resisted" Poison moves were more easily poisoned themselves. Kinda ironic, but it served as a fairly reliable strategy against Brock in-particular whenever I play through the original Red or Blue (or Green in Japan). Granted, maybe people weren't aware of this glitch because most people wouldn't intentionally use Poison-type attacks against enemies you know to be resistant toward it. My alternative strategy would usually entail getting a Fighting-type move from Mankey or Nidoran. But simply inflicting the "Poison" status condition was much easier... Granted, that's assuming you have enough defense to survive the battle for "Poison" to kill! Usually, I would start with Weedle until I successfully poison Brock's Geodude and Onix (which would typically only take 1 to 3 turns with "Poison-Sting"), then I would switch to a Pokemon with greater defense. Alternatively, if I have already evolved the Weedle into a Kakuna, then I would simply spam "Harden" while waiting for the opponent to die from "Poison". Not a particularly difficult strategy really... You should give it a try! Pretty much any noob can pull it off......... :-D
This reminds me of when I was a kid. On my first playthrough when I was 5, I realized how broken sleep was and made my team focus entirely around my Venasaur using sleep powder and my Jigglypuff using Sing. And no, I did not evolve my Jigglypuff. Why? Because even though I had a guidebook that told me what moves Pokemon could learn, so I knew stone evolutions didn't learn new attacks, I didn't know when Jigglypuff would learn its last attack and I assumed the last attack would be the best, so I just never evolved it 😂 brilliant move kid me, brilliant. Either way, I still loved it. Jigglypuff is still a favorite of mine just for that
Clefairy and Clefable: Decently Balanced Stats across the board Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff: H e a l t h Anyways, I love the hard work on this video! I'm enjoying the Pokemon Conquest music in the background, honestly.
9:40 "he should be demoted to Ensign Surge" *actually*, he's in the Army, therefore, Lieutenant is the lowest he can be demoted to, without being stripped of his comission for incompetence. Hey Jrose, I love the way you do these videos. You do a great job explaining the mechanics of the game and your strategies. Keep it up! The rise in views is because of your consistent quality.
This is quickly becoming my favorite series on RUclips. I don’t even like Pokémon that much but this series is amazing
Yay, another video to put on my "Jrose ambient sound" playlist, i've watched all of your videos at least 5 times each, i really like grindy games
His descriptions are amazing, you should take a peek sometime
I didn't notice that until i read this comment
Another great video. This is the only Pokemon content I consume these days. These are just so good that I watch them all
We want Weedle run! I need to learn new poison sting strats!
Have you pressed A?
I didn’t use the B button until I was already a man.
fyi one of the reasons why i love these videos -- your voice and inflection and way of speaking are so perfect
I've gotta get up early tomorrow so I can't watch this right now, but I'm super excited to watch it later! I LOVE not only the content, but the consistent uploads. (of course I'd be fine if they weren't consistent - this is not only quality, but free content. We can wait if you need breaks)
Next time you should just say “Rival Number 5” and have everyone freak out
Anime Logic: Everything goes to sleep, just run around and desert the trainers.
Love your content! Keep it up! Makes me want to play!
"Starts with only Sing," on the thumbnail put the fear of Arceus into me.
33:35 "It even mirror moves my defense curls, which good on ya" LOL Your commentaries on these is GOLD. So funny.

Jrose: Ok, all I have to do is go one step left and then up
*goes 2 steps left*
Jrose: ok, let's do it again
*goes 2 steps right*
Jrose: Crap, common you ain't dum
*goes 2 steps left again*
Jrose: HOLY MOLY MAN WTF
*goes REALLY slowly 1 step right*
Finally
I didn't realize how long I have been watching JRose. Great videos. I love that your game play has stayed so true.
You, GrayStillPlays, and bay area bugs. I haven't watched buggs as much recently, but you all have quality gaming content.
Thank you for your time.
In a few months: "Can you beat Pokémon Red/Blue with... Wait, I did the whole pokédex"
i guess time to move on to gen 2 then lmao
@@nihildwo4874 he already plans on doing that jeez how does this guy stay sane
Can you beat Red/Blue with (reads script)...no pokemon?
Yes you can. Gen 1 has credits warps. :)
Glad you became a frequent uploader man. My life fucking blows honestly. I have a mediocre job, a large family that I can't ever provide enough for. Shit house, shit car. These videos have honestly been something really nice to look forward to. Thanks Jrose.
Alright since he started counting in the Count’s voice, we now have to continue counting each time he beats Bruno
Wonderful video as always. Also for your next challenge - you mentioned it at 3:00 . Let's see that weedle run.
I wish there was a vid where you were like “can u beat the game with this pokemon “ and you just said no and the video was 2 seconds long
But he must stretch it to about 30 minutes so its not obvious
@@felixneufeld6008 And make most of those 30 minutes be "Never Gonna Give You Up"
I love your videos! Keep up the Good work =)
Jigglypuff: so much HP that healing before fights is optional.
“Say it with me...!”
The BA-
“It has nothing to do with the Badge Boost Glitch”
Oh... so this is what betrayal feels like
Massive HP + Low Defense? My first thought is that it sounds like Bide o'clock.
I love the way you narrate these videos. I feel like I’m a part of the journey instead of someone just showing me battles.
With all the Pokemon Conquest music you use, and the fact that you're using Jigglypuff, I'm surprised that you didn't name the player character Oichi and the rival Nobunaga XD. I know you probably won't see this comment, but will you ever do a Pokemon Conquest challenge run? There aren't any around, so it'll be a very unique video.
This video is 50% battles and 50% roasting Surge/Giovanni/Bruno. Love the videos, keep them coming
Venusaur uses poison powder, the AI knew that jigglypuff was a fairy type :)
fairy type didnt exist in gen 1, jigglypuff is normal type
@@balta62 I know I was kidding :)
@@MazterP28 oh lol sorry
@@balta62 it’s all good
I Know it must be a struggle from time to time (pokemon joke here) working as a youtuber, but please never stop. You're damn good at making cool videos and your funny! Makes my day every time you upload.

For some reason, whenever I fight a koffing (or wheezing) and don't have a psychic move (or ground type on Gen1 before levitate), I also use an electric move like thunderbolt. Even though I know it's not extra effective, and that most other types including normal would be just as effective. I have no idea why, maybe it subconsciously makes sense since it's floating in the air. I'm so glad I'm not the only one! 😂
Superb content, I totally enjoy it :) 12:12 Btw, Gyarados looks beautiful with these colours
I watched a Video yesterday, where someone did beat the game with just a weedle.
It is in german though and it required a massive amount of reloading for every single member of the elite 4 + Champion. But it shows: it is actually possible.
Thanks for the recommendation, I just watched it. The question is, do we really want to torture jrose like this?!
Yeah I also saw that one before
I've seen the video (but not watched it yet). I don't understand how It's possible. With a perfect weedle I could never get past the last Giovanni, and absolutely no further.
These challenges are super fun to watch. Thanks for making them, it's been a lot of help :)
The amount of luck in this run was absolutely wild, and at some points almost necessary to save time level grinding.
Have you done a Mankey solo run yet? I don't see it on the playlist but I could have missed it elsewhere. It could pose a massive challenge:
- It only learns Low Kick in Yellow, so you wouldn't have it in Red/Blue against Brock.
- Charmander as the rival's starter would probably be the hardest:
-- Charizard has super effective STAB, is immune to Dig, resists Fighting, and is only weak to Rock Slide and Thunder/bolt (again, the former is inaccurate and Mankey has super low Special)
-- The rival would also have Gyarados (same points as Charizard aside from SE STAB) and Exeggutor (a fairly bulky Psychic type).
The only major battles that don't seem difficult on paper are Surge, Giovanni, and Lorelei (Slowbro will spam Amnesia and the rest are weak to Fighting); with stats and movepool in mind, even *Bruno* could be a challenge. I would love to see you pull this off.
Your content is so entertaining I cannot stress that enough
Jigglypuff is a perfect example of a Pokémon that you could actually use bide with seeing as it has insane HP and really low defense
I really love the whole series you‘re doing. In fact I love it so much, I immediately knew which run you were talking about (where you discovered he has 5 full heal) :D already looking forward to the next runs :)
These runs are torturous.
I love your videos. Your commentary style where you go in depth and really explain and such is super enjoyable.
I look forward to more!
29:01 Haze removes confusion in gen 1
3:00 -- "Why would anyone use a Weedle"
Funny enough, in Gen 1 games, I don't know if it is a glitch, but Poison type moves have a significantly higher probability rate of poisoning Pokemon that resist "Poison" attacks, excluding Poison types themselves since they cannot get Poisoned.
Proof?
Jigglypuff is still a favorite of mine just for that
5 year old me got stuck at Erika with... Charizard. I'm pretty sure I taught it cut too
Its just really satisfying to watch, like someone doing the dirty work for interesting questions and concepts I have for pokemon.
Day 4: I know you're busy with these kanto runs, but do you have any plans on doing a tutorial on minimum battles in GSC?
He's doing GSC after Kanto
Clefairy and Clefable: Decently Balanced Stats across the board
Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff: H e a l t h
Anyways, I love the hard work on this video! I'm enjoying the Pokemon Conquest music in the background, honestly.
9:40 "he should be demoted to Ensign Surge" *actually*, he's in the Army, therefore, Lieutenant is the lowest he can be demoted to, without being stripped of his comission for incompetence. Is this completely useless trivia that does nothing for literally anyone? Yes. Am I potentially coming off like an asshole for being the token military nerd that no one likes to watch military movies with cuz I point out every flaw in said movie? Yes. I'll go sit in the corner and color (with markers, cuz the Marine ate them all)
And navy dude put the crayons you know where lol
Having Venusaur spam the Poison-move against Jiggly is secretly genius
It knew the future, Jigglypuff's secret Fairy typing and kept clicking the super-effective move
I never thought that leveling up faster could actually go against you.
I've been challenging myself during this quarantine to not watch your videos unless I'm working out in the meantime and it's been a godsend. I've never been so happy to exercise because it means I get to watch some good shit
Wouldnt the Squirtle one be a lot easier with withdraw? I would imagine a bulky special attacker most benefits from badge boost. I just cant legitimately imagine bulky water with a lot of coverage with badge boost being on the same level as super slow quad weak to everything 0 special geodude using the same strat. (Just finished an Oddish one myself, basically a bulbasaur run but no body slam i had to use double edge).
I think that run was done before Jrose fully understood the badge boost glitch, so I don't think he even used Withdraw when he did Squirtle.
@@tylerlarsen1842 No, he didn't use withdraw. Would be interesting to see him do a Squirtle run using such...
He underestimated it, but yeah it's just easier with withdraw, you can win sub-level 60.
@@tylerlarsen1842 Mostly true, he did understand it but somehow still underestimated it
I just watched all four of your catch 'em all videos for like the fifth time . I keep wondering when would your retake that series. Your really sound sooo exhausted after gen 4. I enjoy all of your videos, including this series of beating gen 1 in the weirdest and insanest way possible. It's not I would like to see, but it's better than you not been able to upload videos for a while. I'm really happy for you to finally upload videos constantly. I really like your videos, they way you narrate your adventures are awesome, that's why if someone ever retake that catch 'em all project, I don't know if I would be able to enjoy it, since it would lack that unique touch of yours. Catch 'em all is a huge project, and even more in the way you do it, because you don't just compile info, you actually do all for yourself. It's because how awesome that catch 'em all series is, that I would like you to give us an update, if it was cancelled, how do you feel about it, just heard or read some word from the greatest pokemon RUclipsr about his greatest pokemon project.
Oh, I missed those!
These videos have been one of the few things keeping me afloat lately n they're so well done. Its US who should be thanking YOU, Jrose.
Really like your videos mate I've watched one or 2 every night this week before I go to sleep, reminds me of when I played these back in the day
You'll be getting plenty more views from me .
how bonkers is it that this format of video works in 2020? I love them, it just proves how timeless Pokemon games are! Great work Jrose!
