Slight improvement that could have been made to your Onix strats: Because you know that after 2 turns, the third turn will be bide, you can use an attacking move and be completely safe, while in your successful attempt you used defense curl in that situation every time.
@@aftermathrar Yeah but if 2 turns have passed and Bide hasn't released yet, you'll know the third turn it's going to release, so if you're slower you can use an attack during that third turn without building his Bide.
Fantastic video as always my dude! I send some extra thoughts and say some prayers for all the Digletts and Bruno, may they find a better path through life than standing right in yours. Keep up the greatness!
After you saw firsthand how big a difference being able to boost up six times in any stat makes from the badge boost glitch, I hope you give Squirtle another go since you didn't use Withdraw at all with him, If you continue to rank Squirtle based on your original run, you're going to be ranking him several tiers below where he actually is. Paras too was also another really nonoptimal run where you chose Swords Dance instead of Growth, when the latter lets you boost six times and gets you enough Special to survive X4 Fire attacks, but that one wasn't quite as egregious a mistake as ignoring Withdraw with Squirtle was.
i might be misremembering, but didn't he mention that he didn't keep withdraw because he couldn't afford to lose any of squirtle's coverage? either way, squirtle was one of the first pokemon done, so it makes sense that it was rougher; giving it a second attempt and using that as the score would be even less "fair" imo.
Dratini: Wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap Yeah, probably gonna be pretty easy past Brock since it has Agility and Thunder Wave too. Plus Bubblebeam to cover Rock/Ghost types.
@@megagustman Only 1 problem: Dratini learns Dragon Rage at level 40, and you need 3300 Game Corner coins to get the TM. So by the time he gets it, it probably won't be amazing.
Huge fan of the series! I was very surprised to see how well Geodude did, particularly against Starmie and Jynx. I have a question regarding the stat increase that clever use of the badge boosts give. Twice in the video you stated that 6 x Harden gives a 4,5 times increase. However, applying 12,5% seven times (1 + 6 reapplications) comes out to a ~2,28 times increase to the original stat value. If I am wrong, I would love to hear the actual math going on here for better understanding future videos. Keep up the great work!
Yeah, sounds like it should just be 1.125^7. 1.125^13 is roughly 4.5 (actually 4.6). I wonder if the boost gets double-applied as part of the glitch or if it's just a miscalculation by Jrose.
He did miscalculate, the stats were increased by X2.28 after six boosts. It was just Defense that was increased X4.5, as increasing a stat six stages boosts it by X4 and then you get an additional 50% with the initial badge boost added on top of that. Maybe he mixed up the boost to his Defense with the boost that applied to the rest of his stats.
The Diglett Fainting of 2020 was hilarious, it's great to see these funny little segments! After doing a Houndour and a Larvitar run in Silver, I admit that seeing that Bruno dissing hurts my poor heart
Paras too was also a really nonoptimal run when he chose Swords Dance over Growth. Yeah Paras' Attack and physical movepool is better and normally you want a move that boosts you up faster, but with being able to boost six times instead of three, Paras' similarly horrible Speed can be boosted up to X2.28 its original value so it can actually outspeed everything (where it then autowins with Spore), while boosting its Special enough to survive X4 Fire attacks that don't crit when you can't outspeed, and since it has Spore it can get those six boosts in pretty reliably even in bad starting matchups like the Pidgeot. By using Growth you can win at significantly lower levels than with Swords Dance (for reference I did it entering the Elite 4 at level 49 and finish at 57, albeit with perfect DVs and grinding out for Stat EXP, so doing it Jrose's way it would probably require another 5-10 levels, but that's still a big improvement over his Paras run).
Interesting to learn about that badge glitch, though I kind of think using a glitch to get past a hard fight kind of defeats the point of these challenges.
@@tonytang7550 There is no way to always avoid it (for instance the opponent uses Growl or Tail whip and it boosts your speed) but there is a difference between being occasionally hit by a Growl and suddenly you outspeed something (it would still be quite rare throughout the run and not very reliable at all) and "hey let's spam Harden to increase my Speed and Attack so I can ohko everything", that's clearly abusing the glitch and that's where the problem lies, especially because it makes a huge difference and other than this glitch, there is 0 benefit to using Harden in all these fights
ytreza yes, but then that would outlaw any stat-boosting moves, which would make these a lot harder, if not impossible, and if your gonna say, “well just don’t use it for the badge boost glitch” then that gets into a lot of semantics, so it’s much easier to just allow it.
@@aradia9726 I am not against allowing it. Actually my position is either be aware that you are using a glitch to make the game a lot easier (when you use Harden to boost anything but your defense for instance '_') or try to beat the game without using this. In most of his videos, he says that it's not really a glitch because there's no way to avoid it etc and I feel like it's not honest. If he said "I know that boosting all your stats by using Harden is a glitch but I allow myself to use it because I can (or whatever reason really)", then I would be fine with it, but saying "I spam Harden to boost all my stats because it's not really a glitch to get your stats boosted when your stats are modified because you can't control when it happens", I am sure you can see that something sounds wrong in this sentence.
I love your videos dude. Not only do they help me sleep, but they're super interesting after I wake up and rewatch them! Sincerely thank you for making such great content.
For the sake of the tierlist, I think you should redo Squirtle, now that you know the power of the BBG. In addition, Paras could be easier than Eevee or Squirtle, but since you made the mistake with Double Edge.
This continues to be such a fun series and the extra detail in this episode was a nice way to keep things interesting. It really is amazing how some of these games we love so much seem to be held together with bailing wire and chewing gum once you look past the surface. Looking forward to watching the next run!
While watching this, I had an idea regarding level up moves, kinda inspired from Pathfinder’s feat retention mechanic. We keep the normal ‘1 move every few levels’ idea, but instead of having to take the given move at that level, you can choose any move in the level up move pool, up to that level? Leads to more interesting runs, like delete the ground type attack for the flying gym, but retain it for the electric gym. Obviously this will make the game easier, but this can be balanced with making trainer fights more difficult, and less hand holding.
A new recorder item that turns one of the moves used in the current turn (depending on whether you choose to record the first or second move) into a TM or TR to be used later could be introduced. It even makes sense; you aren't gonna literally shove CDs down your mon's throat to teach them TMs, they learn them by watching and mimicking the move recorded there.
Buddy knows rock tunnel like the back of his hand. If I got through rock tunnel without flash back in the day, I would’ve been king of the god damn playground.
The badge boosts having a stronger boost, the AI being a lot worse, opposing trainers have much worse movesets, having the Stat EXP system instead of the EV system, and finally the badge boost glitch makes Gen 1 a loooooooot easier for these challenges, so you can win at much lower levels than would be possible in later Gens.

Slight improvement that could have been made to your Onix strats: Because you know that after 2 turns, the third turn will be bide, you can use an attacking move and be completely safe, while in your successful attempt you used defense curl in that situation every time.
Bide can be 2 or 3 turns.
@@aftermathrar Yeah but if 2 turns have passed and Bide hasn't released yet, you'll know the third turn it's going to release, so if you're slower you can use an attack during that third turn without building his Bide.
Thanks Jrose11. As an Australian, I really appreciate these nightly uploads :) 🇦🇺
Fantastic video as always my dude! I send some extra thoughts and say some prayers for all the Digletts and Bruno, may they find a better path through life than standing right in yours. Keep up the greatness!
As a kid, I would love to have a full party of Geodude and just spam Self-Destruct. 🤯
who didn't tho...
I hacked each member of my team to know Self Destruct. I think it's based on a cartoon I was watching at the time
I love it.
Loving the frequent uploads! I can't wait for your Team Rocket follow-ups with Koffing and Meowth 😉
This^^^^^^^^
i might be misremembering, but didn't he mention that he didn't keep withdraw because he couldn't afford to lose any of squirtle's coverage?
either way, squirtle was one of the first pokemon done, so it makes sense that it was rougher; giving it a second attempt and using that as the score would be even less "fair" imo.
Oh hey, how’s the Pokémon series coming along?
*Rival is named UGH*
This is the freaking dude who beat pokemon with a FREAKING MAGIKARP!
of course he could do it!
Yeah with a exploit
yee this isn't so much an "impossible" run as it is "which pokemon is the best to solo run?"
I'm curious to see how you do with Dratini. We haven't seen a slow experience growth poke yet I don't think. unless i'm mistaken.
Dratini: Wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap wrap
Yeah, probably gonna be pretty easy past Brock since it has Agility and Thunder Wave too. Plus Bubblebeam to cover Rock/Ghost types.
@@cubedmelons876 You are also forgetting another move that's amazing for the early game: Dragon Rage, the bane of all Pokemon with
@@megagustman Only 1 problem: Dratini learns Dragon Rage at level 40, and you need 3300 Game Corner coins to get the TM. So by the time he gets it, it probably won't be amazing.

Great job on the video! it is awesome to see Geodude’s solo run

seriously? it does that!? no wonder i felt like they did more then their damage says.
@@LiroRaeriyo I always hate that too! What a rigged move!
@@LiroRaeriyo it was a base 500 move, until it got nerfed hard in gen5 onwards
@@eyecontrol4900 It was actually 340 in Gen 1.
14:00 but, the third time I didn't lose. *skips the guy that beat him the first two times.
@@OmegaTyrant That makes sense. Seems like an easy mistake to make when plunging so deep into gen 1 mechanics :)
The Diglett Fainting of 2020 was hilarious, it's great to see these funny little segments!
After doing a Houndour and a Larvitar run in Silver, I admit that seeing that Bruno dissing hurts my poor heart
Just what i was waiting for all morning
Plus I didn’t know Geodude‘s backsprite was so Bad
How about ranking Squirtle higher since you discarded Withdraw even though it would've been a great move for the badge boost?
There is no way to avoid this glitch though, so it's difficult to not use it at all
@@tonytang7550 There is no way to always avoid it (for instance the opponent uses Growl or Tail whip and it boosts your speed) but there is a difference between being occasionally hit by a Growl and suddenly you outspeed something (it would still be quite rare throughout the run and not very reliable at all) and "hey let's spam Harden to increase my Speed and Attack so I can ohko everything", that's clearly abusing the glitch and that's where the problem lies, especially because it makes a huge difference and other than this glitch, there is 0 benefit to using Harden in all these fights
ytreza here’s the thing tho. Some Pokémon want to use boosting moves without the glitch which makes them have a huge ass advantage.
ytreza yes, but then that would outlaw any stat-boosting moves, which would make these a lot harder, if not impossible, and if your gonna say, “well just don’t use it for the badge boost glitch” then that gets into a lot of semantics, so it’s much easier to just allow it.
In all those years, I never thought of saving between the trash cans (/.-) lol
It doesn't work in any other game, but it's great in Red and Blue

Hey there, silent watcher here. Watched all of the season so far. Very big fan of it.
The Diglett documentary was the best part of this video. I would love to see more skits like that in future videos! Great work as always :)
For the sake of the tierlist, I think you should redo Squirtle, now that you know the power of the BBG. In addition, Paras could be easier than Eevee or Squirtle, but since you made the mistake with Double Edge.
Squirtle bbg sucks tho, just increase in defence + overall boost, but charmander has sword dance and bulbasaur growth
@@R3dux7933 nah someone else did it and shaved off 15 levels with bbg

Wow, I'm the fastest fan! I just saw the Onix run from Mah-Dry-Bread, so I expect quite a challenge for you at the end. ^^
Gen 1 and gen 3 are totally different ...
The fake out with Bruno was fantastic. Great run. Amazing just how broken the badges make this.
