This guy is a breath of fresh air in the Pokemon community where it feels like everyone puts out the same basic challenge videos just copying each other. This is a unique challenge in an almost 30 year old game. Kudos to your creativity and skills.
Thank you! I try to do things a little differently, even in my full-game solo runs - I focus more on Minimum Battles, limiting TMs and resets over speed. I hope you enjoy!
@@RBYPokemonChallenges Unless you break the game first that won't happen, atleast not with the shroom crabs~ A Perfect Parasect at LV 100 (with Init Bagde Boost) only matches the speed of a 0 DV Electrode at LV 47... Starting around Level 60 anything with Base Speed of 90+ will outspeed Parasect... So in the last 3 Fights: Gengar, Haunter, Golbat, Aerodactyl, Alakazam, Jolteon and Ninetales cannot be outspeed by Parasect (atleast not without abusing the badge boost glitch)
That is true, except, as you mentioned, that Badge Boost glitch. And since Growth or Swords Dance will be very logical in any set. you will always be getting 3-6 badge boosts per battle. I've already done the run with Paras, so here's the proof: ruclips.net/video/OTQZdm64ICI/видео.html
We have truly done terrible things with this Pokemon. But when I ran it legitimately with 0 DVs and Minimum Battles without TMs, it completely destroyed Kanto, would have been 0 resets if not for one routing mistake and bad sand attack luck on Rival 5
Caterpie with a perfect moveset would be interesting, since there's no move that'd actually be _good_ and get STAB, so you can just choose two attacking moves based on their complementary coverage.
Definitely. They added Bug Bite in later Gens, which could be approximated with something like Twin Needle. We could draw inspiration from Butterfree to add access to something like Confusion or Psybeam. Keep Tackle for coverage and String Shot to allow it to outspeed some spots and we might just be able to beat the game at least. I actually tested just adding Twin Needle for fun once, got hard-walled by Blaine, so another coverage move is required. Technically Bug + Psychic covers everything.
If you are going to go hacked movesets already and want to go for the best option, might as well go with something like Blizzard/ice-beam and Thunder/thunderbolt, the classic for perfect coverage. both types also help a lot in the E4, apart from Agatha. Although I would suggest Spore and growth as the setup moves, simply because triggering the badge boost glitch 3 more times will help with increasing the speed of the mon just that little bit more. (Unless you are playing on a patched rom of some kind, in which case amnesia is strictly better.)
@@frozenfeet4534Caterpie cannot get past the channelers in Pokemon tower without a hacked moveset due to normal type struggle Weedle can technically get to Agatha due to poison sting, but a perfect L100 Weedle will run out of PP and struggle to death / ghost stall on Agatha
Maybe a hardcore “Natlocke” or Natural-locke meaning only the moves the pokemon would naturally learn (no TMs or HMs except HM mules). I dunno if that would have enough strategy variety but TMs always seem to play a huge role so it’d be interesting without them. (Maybe any extra anime moves allowed too)
I'm not sure if he's gonna be _very_ popular, considering he might not be able to pump out runs with 15DVs at 4x speed, but he will very likely be popular.
This video reminded me how excited I was about Smeargle when playing Pokemon Gold as a children. My little brain was like hey, I can do Spoar with Horn Drill and Lock-On. Also equipped Quick Claw and has quite a lot of fun.
Definitely! The ability to get such a broken moveset and then crush the game with it is what makes some of these runs so stupidly fun, and makes me giddy like a small child again!
@@lozangekitten-gamer7626 Truth! I mean GodKarp is just a legendary Pokemon which may not actually exist outside of this video, but MewPoo is available to anyone who wants to use it
New to the channel and i have to say great video! As a little advice, just keep a better eye on some of the cuts through scenes. At the 40ish minute mark (karp sabrina fight) and a little before there are two jumps where you cut mid sentence and skip to the next paragraph of the script. There are plenty poketubers and early gen challenge videos and anything can drift the attention away from your content. (for example, i totally thought i was gonna watch a Scott's thoughts video when i clicked on your thumbnail). EDIT: i just realized i wrote "matt's thoughts" basically mashing the names of two different channels
@@RBYPokemonChallenges A common error is shifting audio, causing overlaps that overwrite other audio on the track. Just a guess though, fairly common mistake.
Yeah, I generally listen over the places where to clips meet, because I tend to record the voice-over in bits, rather than as one long take. But it's likely that this is exactly what happened here. Sometime you move things with a ripple delete, especially because I was speeding up the footage in some sections, and that could have caused the weird overlaps. Still pretty novice at editing lol
Video idea: best possible “special” move set vs. best possible “physical” move set with the same Pokémon, maybe dragonite? Loved the video, I really enjoyed it! You saying mewpoo is just hilarious 😆
That could be really interesting. I almost think it could be a Machamp versus a Chansey, since Chansey has the ridiculously high special while Machamp has 2nd best Attack.
@@RBYPokemonChallengesyes, great choice of Pokémon. I’d love to see how those two would play out, especially since I believe both can go very far on minimum battles. Curious to see, if this plan comes to life, which movesets you will implement on them.
I will give it a think. I have a small backlog of videos, including a thank you to you all for 2.5k subs in the works, but I will definitely add this to my list!
You just got yourself another subscriber. Like the other guy said. You're gonna grow quickly. I'll be sharing your channel with my friends as well. Cheers man you rock. Thank you for the delightful content. Edit: would love to see a god tier caterpie or weedle beat the game lmao
1:14 Not to be the "but actually" guy, but actually while you are locked into bide for 2 to 3 turns you only need to take damage on one of those turns to return damage back. I think?
Yes, but the point I was making is that you are open to damage for multiple turns, which makes it fairly terrible. And you are never KOing anything without taking multiple hits.
I'm actually curious about the details behind how Psywave works. I mean, I know there's the descriptions of it, and a math page claimed that average damage was 75% of level on average, and 60 with misses. The only way I can think about it being fair is if the game first takes the 1.5 level base and then scales it by (rng)/256. I was going to say it adds one, but with the link battle desync I just assume it rerolls on a 0? For all the material about it, I'm a little surprised that it's hard to find a formula that describes the exact implementation of the move or like, assembly code of the move.
For sure, I'd have to research it a bit more, and I might ask Kangaskdan about it, he is really up on diving into the code and finding the way things are actually calculated. My main understanding is that even in a normal game, there can be cases where it does 0 damage (I have video proof, but it could be something to do with damage rounding logic). Something to research for sure!
@RBYPokemonChallenges I was actually bothered enough by it to ask about it on a Discord server that might know. Apparently, the game takes the Pokémon's level and multiplies it by 1.5 (or rather adds half the level to the level with bit shift math). It then, at least on the move user's side generates a random [8 bit] number. If the random number is 0, or greater than the level times 1.5, the result is discarded and another number is generated. This raises another question though, I think. Does the game having to make several consecutive rng calls to get a valid result have any impact on the uniformity of the possible numbers? And how much does level effect this if there is a skew from certain numbers being out of range and discarded?
Damn, that's really interesting. There must then be a distribution, which could just be perfectly random or it could be skewed. Might be worth testing.... Basically Imagine that luck might average out in the long-term to do 85% of the user's level, but if the number is perfectly evenly distributed, then it could have very skewed results in the short-run
@@RBYPokemonChallenges I found a page talking about how the RNG works and about correlation for many rerolls (at least 3 consecutive or nearly consecutive rng calls) skewing numbers. Of course, that was talking about catch rate. It's not quite the same comparison, but it does make me want to think about it with the numbers for damage ranges. And uh, if accuracy itself is one call presumably done before damage, that might already mean a single reroll means you're only one reroll away from that third call. It's still worth having a few heads look into it.
Im so glad i found this, i had forgotten i even was already subscribed, i guess youtube not sending notifications of new videos be like that, anyway, i hope you grow bigger and bigger because your videos are great. Now on topic of the video, what if you do a "god version" of every 10U tier pokemon? Those being Caterpie, Weedle, Metapod, Kakuna, Ditto, and the already used Magikarp. Would also love too see a "poo version" of Mew and OU's Big Three, aka, Snorlax, Chansey and Tauros. Have a good one. ❤
I would be down. Actually already working on the Caterpie, added Twin Needle and got to Blaine, but that has been a hard-wall. Need to flesh out movesets a bit more, but could be really fun. I'm mostly interested in first the minimal changes that would be needed to make bad Pokemon capable of beating the game, then a god-tier variant. For the Poo versions of OU gods, I'm definitely into it but wouldn't want to just recycle the same moveset. So Chansey with only weak moves for example would be fun, especially if I can find a moveset that makes it *just barely* able to beat the game
@@RBYPokemonChallenges Maybe a physical moves only Chansey? I think with softboiled that would still be possible, but if we go full bad, so no recovery moves, it would be interesting to see what you'd use to beat the game. As for Caterpie i legitmently have no clue, i was thinking maybe Blizzard bacause of how busted it is gen 1, but there's also Substitute, Spore and Psychic, but i think recovery moves are just too important, im now actually excited for how you'll make it happen, have fun doing your research and playing pokemon. ❤️
Definitely! I research that on later Gens Caterpie gets Electroweb, which now makes me want to give it something like Thunderbolt as a thematic move. I think we could definitely give it a good boosting move and an array of moves to make it work. Just don't want to repeat. I agree, softboiled on Chansey would be way too good. But I'm sure there is a way!
I've been waiting so long for a run where you'd actually tried to use psywave. I expected you to not use it and always use rage instead because rage was "more consistant".
There are many fights where Psywave is the only logical play. Against Brock, Misty, Sabrina, Giovanni, Bruno, and Agatha, it is 1000% required to use Psywave in this setup lol
Definitely, I think it really is a journey to improve everything from the ideas, to the gameplay to the presentation, and of course the audio and video recording and editing
When you got to the Lance battle, you could have just done your Amnesias after the Gyarados and saving that rare candy by simply changing when you did your setup, especially since you still outsped the Dragonair without those badge boosts.
I understand why you'd think so, but the issue is PP management. Without the boosts on the Gyarados, Dream Eater is not doing nearly enough damage, and then factoring in turns where opponents wake up immediately, it become difficult to have enough PP for the Dragonite later on. Remember that Lance uses one Hyper Potion per Pokemon if you get him to red health, so the Rare Candy to allow setup on the Gyarados was the best play with the moveset as it was.
I agree that it can be a nice change of pace, for me as a challenge runner as well. Sometimes we get so lost in the weeds of optimizing speed or grinding out low-level challenges, and it's just so much fun to take a little break from that to just do something silly and interesting 🤔
@@ulrichbrodowsky5016 Are you asking in relation to this video or a broken moveset in general. Obviously the moveset depends on the Pokemon, but the GodKarp set will beat the game eventually with basically enything
@@ulrichbrodowsky5016 Ah gotcha! I really do want to try a "God" physical set. I certainly don't want it to just be a rehash of the same set as GodKarp, because that would get old quick. I have a couple ideas using some different strategies though
I always see the "No items in battle" rule... wouldn't No items OUTSIDE of battle be more interesting? Every item takes a turn. Should really change the elite 4, for one.
Welcome to the channel adamwilliamson! There's lots more where that came from, so feel free to check out others and comment if there are runs you'd like to recommend!
Psywave is actually even worse than you explained! It does random DMG between 0.5 and 1.5 times the users Level! Not between 1 and 1.5 times as mentioned in the Video, which would actually be quite good~ Edit: Oh Gosh, just double checked again... I misremembered. But it'S even worse worse... It'S between 1 Dmg and 1.5 times the User's Level Dmg... Yeah... It's just healthier to never even attempt to use this move...
I really enjoyed this video. My first time seeing one of your videos. I really like your overlay and your intros into battles. Keep it up! Very enjoyable content!
Awesome, welcome to the channel pandemic3332! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it! I've got loads more videos to check out and more upcoming! Drop a comment if there are any runs you'd like to recommend!
@@RBYPokemonChallenges I have subscribed so I’ll be up to date from now on. I watch a lot of Poketubers and I can honestly say you’re up there with Flygon, Scott, Mah Dry Bread.
Really appreciate that. Scotty has helped me a bunch this past year with the overlay and general feedback, so I definitely owe him a bit of credit for my improvement. Flygon and MDB are 🔥🔥🔥 Hope to chat with them about content one of these days
Nice challenge runs. I really like the overlay showing the stat changes in battle. Seeing the badge boosts happening right on screen was really neat. If there is one issue I had with the video, its that there are a lot of mouth sounds in your commentary. It's one of those things that probably only bothers me with my specific brand of neurodivergence, but I figured I'd say it anyway in case you're open to changing things. Either way, keep up the great work!
Thanks for the positive feedback on the overlay! For sure, I'm working on so noise gates here to block out sounds like keystrokes etc, but getting it dialed in well is a bit of a pain. Sound engineering is not my forte, so it's gonna take me a little time. Thank you for the feedback.
No worries, I am always trying to improve. I have a long-term goal of making content full time, so comments like this are good feedback on how to improve! 💪
Some minor editing mistakes but this was a wild ride and it's such a good concept for a versus run. Immediately intriguing. Definitely hitting that sub button.
subbed as soon as i heard you were running on 0DV/IVs. no shade to other poketubers but i always felt that rerolling for a good spread defeated part of the purpose behind a challenge run to begin with
Woah thanks! Yeah, I've been doing 0 DVs and Minimum Battles focused runs for over a year now. I think it's good both for a challenge and for more accurately representing how Pokemon perform
Still a young channel and still learning as I go. Only started posting in 2021, and only started editing what I posted in 2022, so I am just slowly improving. Thanks for watching and supporting! Spread the word!
I love the slap in the face to Mewpoo. At the end, Godkarp is lv 55. Mewpoo was 55xp from level up. It was like the final slap in the face from God to Poo. Lol
In the game's data, there are only 3 rivals for the sake of AI behavior - "dumb AI" is "Rival1" in the game data and covers the the early encounters until Nugget Bridge, "Rival2" in the game data covers the SS Anne through the pre-E4 fight, and has "Smart AI" and heals with a potion, "Rival3" in the game data is the Champion and uses "Smart AI" and heals with Full Restore. That being said, I should update my code just to say "Rival"
Really like your delivery! Hope more people find your channel. Although you might want to add a seizure warning, some of the move animations in gen 1 are an assault on the eyes. The footage being sped up isn't helping it either
Thank you for the advice and input. As a guy with low vision , I play with animations to help me track the action on the screen. But fair enough, I will try to add marking or something in the intro about that
First time finding this channel. I like it. But is there any explanation on what the 'score' system in the bottom right is measured? Also the end music is familiar, and jamming... I can't put my finger on it....
My scoring system is broken down in the description. I deduct points for resents, optional battles, and TMs, based on different weights. There is a huge backlog of runs showing why the systems is the way it is, but I'd recommend some like Poliwhirl, Mewtwo with no TMs, Golbat, and Pidgeot to give a good mix of results that show the system in action.
Because all of GodKarp's attacks are special, the special stat is calculated correctly. The badge boost glitch only affect stats other than the one being boosted.
That was an epic versus run , I wasn't sure who'd win at the end, I was so sure that Godkarp will be walled at the endgame ,but it kind of surprised me, because I thought it wouldn't outspeed opponents due to its bad stats , its after all a Megikarp . But being the best pokemon doesn't grantee that rage and psywave will as efficient without some sort of luck .😊Which kind of makes me wonder how important the speed and special stat are in the mid to late game , I wonder if other pokemon out of the top 3 (Weedle ,Caterpie, megikarp) could be up against Chansy with a physical set , while Caterpie or Weedle would have the best moves for a physical attacker ,with a strong stab move and see how that could go. I really like the results that these kind of challenges have' and I think that you can make series of these specials runs . Keep up the good work with these awesome videos. 😁
I think some other runs like Caterpie and Weedle with similar sets will be enlightening, primarily because they have lower speed. The difference in Speed is what likely makes them much worse. On the other hand, a Kakuna or Metapod could badge boost with Harden, add on their other moves and maybe have a chance.
@@RBYPokemonChallenges Keep in mind that Kakuna and Metapod are bulky but they are slower and they hit less hard then Caterpie and Weedle,so that should be interesting 🤔. I think that their moveset should be mega drain/earthquake,spore,harden,twineedle could be suitable for these two.
Does the badge boost increase by two stages if you increase your stats by two stages? If not, wouldn't you get more out of increasing your special by using growth instead?
I’ve been curious about the layout for these videos ever since I started watching them. Are the stat numbers calculated as you play by some plugin for the emulator or something or are they done manually in post?
The stats etc are done using a custom HTML and JavaScript file that I made (with some help and tips from Scotty). I get real-time game data with Gamehook.
I'm curious, would giving mewtwo a set that forces using bide against ghosts worse than this? Im wondering because some of the slowest pokemon that can solo run these games only have normal and fighting moves and are forced to use bride against ghost types.
For sure, ai have done a few side-by-sides on the channel, you can check out the older Bellsprout and Krabby races for example! I really enjoy seeing both runs side by side and then zooming in on one for major battles as I do my commentary, makes it feel like more action.
Awesome, thank you! There are tons of old runs to watch as well, but my suggestions are the HM Mewl Run, the Tentacruel run, and Alakazam vs. Hypno race. Just a few of my personal favorites!
Replace psywave with constrict. I don’t know much about that miss chance thing, but I’ll take a chance to get decent power even once over a 10 base power move.
great video but i think growth could have potentially been better than amnesia because that's 3 more badge boosts. against blaine that'd have taken out the rng of needing the gym pokemon to badge boost you and a lot of those battles you'd have just more damage from the special badge boosts as well
I definitely can see the logic. I avoided it because I was worried about having opponents wake up before I could setup. But I can always try a "optimized" run in the future, same for some of the comments about replacing Hydro Pump with Surf
@@RBYPokemonChallenges hell yeah, i'd watch it. what do you think about dragon dance, hyper beam, spore, and earthquake? dragon resists water and grass types seemed to be an issue if they weren't also part poison. add in some either speed or attack vitamins and i think it has potential
Thank you, but I think algorithm just means audience, so as long as folks like you are enjoying, the "algorithm" will take care of itself. Thank you for the support!
Definitely, we have been discussing on Discord and some other comments. I went with Hydro Pump because it was used in the LegendKarp run, and I wasn't 100% sure I could do minimum battles without it. This was a first attempt with no optimizations, after all. But if I ever "optimize_ the run, Growth and Surf are making the set over Amnesia and Hydro Pump
For sure, I did Vulpix and that was a painful run, to say the least, but design-wise its one of my favorite Pokemon. Looking to do the Ninetales run sometime soon!
Lots of folks have asked how GodKarp would do with Surf and Growth instead of Amnesia and Hydro Pump. We just tested it out! ruclips.net/user/live-AfRN_1nES8
Mewtwo in this scenario is kind of like using brute force computing you can use good hardware with a bad process to get through say any password eventually it just comes down to how long it needs to do the job
First video of yours I'm watching, you've got a nice set-up. Obviously inspired by Scott's Thoughts, but that's fine. Nice transitions for gym leaders and such
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the comments and feedback. Scotty helped me get set up with Gamehook last summer, so the overlay is built on the same base. I have changed it to suit my needs, so it's not as pretty as Scott's overlay, but it works for now.
@RBYPokemonChallenges he's a good egg :) keep it up. I'll admit I fell asleep before getting to the conclusion of the video last night so I'll need to give it a second watch 😂
No worries, if it's good enough to relax to and catch some ZZZs, that's fine by me. I originally discovered solo running on RUclips when I fell asleep with RUclips running and woke up to JRose's Red/Blue minimum battles run.
Hydro Pump is actually a range, not a guaranteed OHKO. I tested that out in the LegendKarp run, where I showed just going for Hydro Pump can result in losing
Ngl, was at first not sure if hydro pump truly was the strongest water type move overall since it missed 20% of the time while 95 BP surf always hit (meaning more consistency). But when you calculate it - 120*0.8 is actually *96,* meaning it beats out surf by one BP, so it becomes a "calculated risk" move that does more damage over time but can royally screw you over. Made me chuckle that this calc might have actually been done by some dev and it's not just a happy coincidence like so much of gen 1's clusterfuck of coding.
Here's a challenge: Mewtwo with tackle, growl, poison sting (for the ghosts), and splash. I thought about sonic boom for the ghosts (yes, it can hit them in gen 1) but that would make the early game too easy. And seismic toss/ nightshade would be too powerful in the late game. Poison could be utilized on other Pokémon, but I still think it's the worst choice that would actually allow you to beat Agatha and the Pokémon tower.
We've been talking about basically this set, except Constrict in the place of Tackle. Would be interesting to see what level it would take, especially since everything is resisted by rock-types as well.
Personally I wish I had the means to set up runs using whatever mons I wanted and personally I would love to see use a true God tier Mewtwo and Mew I am thinking versions that already start at level 5 knowing Psychic, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and mabye Earthquake for the Kadabras, Alakazams and mabye Chansey if there are any required battles against them and mabye already having them PP maxed of Couse if you felt that swapping 1 of the moves for Amensia or even Ice Beam for Blizzard because blizzard is 90% accurate in Gen 1 could be your call to see just how fast and easy the game could be.
Definitely, we could make a truly God-Tier Pokemon of them. I actually think Swords Dance Mew with a bunch of Physical moves and Soft-boiled, could become way too OP
lol, must be the auto subtitiles. Badge Boosts Glitch is when stat changes affect all of our other stats based on the current badges we have. For example, Amnesia not only raises Special, but also can raise Attack if we have the Boulder Badge, Defense if we have the Thunder Badge, and raise Speed if we have the Soul Badge.
For sure! It can be really hard in especially on RUclips to make content when you struggle to see the details on the screen. Makes editing take a fair bit longer, and little mistakes etc still get through But It's so much fun to do these silly runs and share them. Glad you enjoyed and if there's anything I can do to improve the quality/experience for you, let me know!
@@RBYPokemonChallenges no they're wonderful! I listen to videos and you do a good job making things clear. Your point about leaving animations on really resonated with me because I leave them on for the same reason ❤️

I had a Magikarp show up in my dream that was green and blue and kinda had swirled dyed resin type markings (best i can explain. They had no red, just blue and green), the Magikarp ended up a huge and beautiful eastern dragon like Garados that looked calm instead of a noodle of rage. Godkarp is just that powerful lmao
I think your gym leader and Elite Four intros could stand to be shorter, and I feel it's redundant to play them twice in a comparison video especially since they are so long. You also cut yourself off in your editing a few times.
It really is astounding just how bad Psywave is. Random level-based attack power, no STAB or super-effective modifiers, AND it doesn't even get 100% accuracy until Gen 6? Truly awful.

The moral of the story is that there's a reason they only ever give Spore to slow pokemon.
Truth! But with enough levels, even a Parasect could outspeed opponents and break the game 😂
@@RBYPokemonChallenges Unless you break the game first that won't happen, atleast not with the shroom crabs~

Glad you're enjoying it! I just really enjoy testing the limits of things and learning more about these games every day!
It's interesting to see that no matter the base stats, the moveset makes the biggest difference
Precisely, good moves, good run. It's also incredible that the MewPoo set is all completely legit
Also true, all 4 are actual learnable TMs, which makes it even more ridiculous😹😹😹
@@lozangekitten-gamer7626 Truth! I mean GodKarp is just a legendary Pokemon which may not actually exist outside of this video, but MewPoo is available to anyone who wants to use it
With videos like this, I think it's unnessecary. 'sides, GodKarp is no regular legend. It's a God in its own right (after all, it did minimal batles)
@@lozangekitten-gamer7626 There can be only one God(Karp)
New to the channel and i have to say great video!
As a little advice, just keep a better eye on some of the cuts through scenes. At the 40ish minute mark (karp sabrina fight) and a little before there are two jumps where you cut mid sentence and skip to the next paragraph of the script. There are plenty poketubers and early gen challenge videos and anything can drift the attention away from your content. (for example, i totally thought i was gonna watch a Scott's thoughts video when i clicked on your thumbnail).
EDIT: i just realized i wrote "matt's thoughts" basically mashing the names of two different channels
Cheers, thanks for the feedback. Will check on the cuts there, not sure exactly what happened on that spot
@@RBYPokemonChallengessounds good, keep up the good work! You’re now one person closer to your 2.5k goal 😄 see you on the next video!
Thank you, and we've already crushed 2.5k and getting close to 3k!?!
Loved the video. Unique setup and approach. Will definitely be watching more!
Awesome, thank you!
The Bill Cosby-Carp is truly a force to be reckoned with.
And that is how RBY Pokemon Challenges gets cancelled 😂
I think an interesting rematch would be to give Mewtwo the learnset of Magikarp and vice versa.
Fair idea!
You just got yourself another subscriber.
Like the other guy said. You're gonna grow quickly. I'll be sharing your channel with my friends as well.
Cheers man you rock. Thank you for the delightful content.
Edit: would love to see a god tier caterpie or weedle beat the game lmao
Thank you so much! I love comments like this!
Goderpie had been added to my list, ai think it'll be 😂
This is REALLY good stuff man!
Dude, the love is incredible! Thank you for watching and supporting! Any runs you'd like to see, drop them in the comments!
This video just feels like a dream Magikarp had
Then it wakes up and gets crushed by a Mewtwo XD
It has to end by getting owned by Mewtwo, just as a reminder that MewTwo is still the true God of Gen 1
58:13 getting 3 crits in a row has a 0.3% of happening 1/333!
in other words,Gen 1 miss levels of luck
These are literally my most favorite to watch man. I can’t wait for more amazing content!
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! I'm having a blast making them
1:14 Not to be the "but actually" guy, but actually while you are locked into bide for 2 to 3 turns you only need to take damage on one of those turns to return damage back.
Top scientist on the job!
Please, do the perfect Caterpie run.
You could call it CHADerpie.
Because it's hilarious.
CHADerpie, already sounds legendary 😂
Chaderpie vs weedon't
This is an awesome idea and the editing quality is awesome. Definitely subscribing! Algorithm has blessed you!
Thank you! Still really a novice editor, but always trying to improve! Hope to bring you guys even more good content!
@@RBYPokemonChallenges Absolutely man! Novice or not, it's the time investment that counts! Looking forward to seeing more!
Today we learned gen 1 meta was moves and speed stat
Like basically the whole series (besides trick room shenanigans)
Seriously, moves and speed are the only real factors. Special, Defense, and Attack are good and all, but generally irrelevant
I really enjoy hypothetical challenges like this. They're super enjoyable because they're so different from the same kind of challenge runs people do.
I agree that it can be a nice change of pace, for me as a challenge runner as well. Sometimes we get so lost in the weeds of optimizing speed or grinding out low-level challenges, and it's just so much fun to take a little break from that to just do something silly and interesting 🤔
What would even be the moveset? Spore, growth, agility and dream eater? Or spore, sword dance, earthquake, rockslide?
@@ulrichbrodowsky5016 Are you asking in relation to this video or a broken moveset in general. Obviously the moveset depends on the Pokemon, but the GodKarp set will beat the game eventually with basically enything
@@RBYPokemonChallenges I was talking about caterpie. Maybe I accidentally answered the wrong comment
This could be a really fun comparison - do a Pokemon with the same strategy, only changing items in battle versus items only outside of battle
First video of yours i have seen, great format for a race!
Welcome to the channel adamwilliamson! There's lots more where that came from, so feel free to check out others and comment if there are runs you'd like to recommend!
Psywave is actually even worse than you explained!
It does random DMG between 0.5 and 1.5 times the users Level!
Not between 1 and 1.5 times as mentioned in the Video, which would actually be quite good~
Edit:
Oh Gosh, just double checked again... I misremembered. But it'S even worse worse...
It'S between 1 Dmg and 1.5 times the User's Level Dmg...
Yeah... It's just healthier to never even attempt to use this move...
Yeah, I meant that it does between 1 damage and 1.5x the user's level. So it is legitimately terrible 😂
I really enjoyed this video. My first time seeing one of your videos. I really like your overlay and your intros into battles. Keep it up! Very enjoyable content!

@@RBYPokemonChallenges in my opinion you’re doing everything right. Keep it up!!
@@RBYPokemonChallenges Awesome to hear. Sorry for being that guy and complaining like that on the first video I've seen of yours.
Glad you enjoyed it! will get the audio issues fixed up for next time. Thank you so much for watching and subbing!
subbed as soon as i heard you were running on 0DV/IVs. no shade to other poketubers but i always felt that rerolling for a good spread defeated part of the purpose behind a challenge run to begin with
Woah thanks! Yeah, I've been doing 0 DVs and Minimum Battles focused runs for over a year now. I think it's good both for a challenge and for more accurately representing how Pokemon perform
Just realized you have only 2.6k subs, you have such good content thats insane!
Still a young channel and still learning as I go. Only started posting in 2021, and only started editing what I posted in 2022, so I am just slowly improving. Thanks for watching and supporting! Spread the word!
This is the most interesting concept that I’ve seen on these solo challenge videos.
Glad to deliver
You had 0.675 to kill the first rival alakazam with the hydropump, so spore was just much safer
For sure. I think in general Spore first then attack is simply the most consistent strategy
This was a neat video, I’m glad I stumbled across it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love the slap in the face to Mewpoo. At the end, Godkarp is lv 55. Mewpoo was 55xp from level up. It was like the final slap in the face from God to Poo. Lol
I didn't even notice the XP to level up on MewPoo 😂 That's hilarious
@@RBYPokemonChallenges it definitely earned my sub lol
This comment made me go back and rewatch the end and sure enough! That is incredible. The PokeGods have smiled on this run, clearly 😂
1:07:39 why's it say rival2 on the top right here?
Thought it was rival 6 :p
In the game's data, there are only 3 rivals for the sake of AI behavior - "dumb AI" is "Rival1" in the game data and covers the the early encounters until Nugget Bridge, "Rival2" in the game data covers the SS Anne through the pre-E4 fight, and has "Smart AI" and heals with a potion, "Rival3" in the game data is the Champion and uses "Smart AI" and heals with Full Restore. That being said, I should update my code just to say "Rival"
@@RBYPokemonChallenges That would definitely make it less confusing!
Add in how often I call the rival by the wrong name in live commentary, I definitely need to fix this. I will investigate and improve.
I haven't seen to the end but I think Magikarp has the edge here.
Definitely has the better moveset!
For the starmie, if you set up 6x amnesia your attack stat would get recalculated due to a glitch and might do a lot more damage
Because all of GodKarp's attacks are special, the special stat is calculated correctly. The badge boost glitch only affect stats other than the one being boosted.
Oh my bad, I could have sworn dream eater was ghost (physical in gen1).
Dream Eater is a Psychic-type move, funny enough, though it would make sense as ghost for sure!
@@edwardcisabella Even if it was ghost, Starmie is immune to ghost in gen 1 because why would the type matchups be coded correctly
Exactly! Bug being super effective against Poison is another head-scratcher in Gen 1
Surely a Magikarp focused on putting Pokémon to sleep and eating their dreams should be called Karprai?
😂 That's 🥇
Before the intro I thought "Best" and "Worst" would include giving Mewtwo zero DVs and giving Magikarp the best DVs
GodKarp doesn't need DVs 😂
What song is playing at 20:40?

Skyline Scroller from Streambeats
Just curious, do you play both at the same time or one by one? I'm sure your asked this a lot.
One by one. I put the video side-by-sid ro comparison after the fact.
Crazy question:
Did you think of using growth instead of amnesia for more badge boosts?
This has been discussed. I think it could be a fun idea for a Livestream
Great showcase on how important movepool is, especially in a janky game like gen 1.
Indeed! Movesets are so terribly important compared to stats, especially when everything is completely broken
Does the badge boost increase by two stages if you increase your stats by two stages? If not, wouldn't you get more out of increasing your special by using growth instead?
Yep, Growth is overall better, we did that in a follow-up live stream
@@RBYPokemonChallenges nice
I’ve been curious about the layout for these videos ever since I started watching them. Are the stat numbers calculated as you play by some plugin for the emulator or something or are they done manually in post?
The stats etc are done using a custom HTML and JavaScript file that I made (with some help and tips from Scotty). I get real-time game data with Gamehook.
Missed opportunity to name Magikarp “Carpe-Diamn”
Could be a future Karp 😂
I'm curious, would giving mewtwo a set that forces using bide against ghosts worse than this? Im wondering because some of the slowest pokemon that can solo run these games only have normal and fighting moves and are forced to use bride against ghost types.
Forced Bide would make anything worse. How terrible though? That is for another video
What theme is that playing during GodKarp vs Giovanni?
I will have to double check, but I think it's the Team Galactic Boss theme
I'd love to see a physical chansey versus an offensive shuckle in gen 2... Yes I know, I'm crazy
Could be an idea for the GSC Pokemon Challenges 😂
Mewpoo taking everything out by Raging feels oddly appropriate
Agreed, Rage was the feeling of having that moveset
26:05 interesting, I wasn’t aware counter could get a “critical hit”
It can, but it still does the same damage. it's a glitch in the game
side-by-side is genius. revolutionary vs run tech
For sure, ai have done a few side-by-sides on the channel, you can check out the older Bellsprout and Krabby races for example! I really enjoy seeing both runs side by side and then zooming in on one for major battles as I do my commentary, makes it feel like more action.
New to the channel but great stuff so far 👍 got a big list to watch thanks😊
Awesome, thank you! There are tons of old runs to watch as well, but my suggestions are the HM Mewl Run, the Tentacruel run, and Alakazam vs. Hypno race. Just a few of my personal favorites!
Replace psywave with constrict. I don’t know much about that miss chance thing, but I’ll take a chance to get decent power even once over a 10 base power move.
We've discussed a Poison Sting/Constrict only run. It won't be immediate but will be done eventually!
I appreciate the animations! They’re iconic.
Glad to hear it! I am just having a blast making things that I think are cool 😎
Dude... I was listening to this while mowing my over grown lawn. Top tier quality 👏👌👍
Glad you like it! Definitely interesting to hear how and when people like to play the videos!
great video but i think growth could have potentially been better than amnesia because that's 3 more badge boosts. against blaine that'd have taken out the rng of needing the gym pokemon to badge boost you and a lot of those battles you'd have just more damage from the special badge boosts as well
I definitely can see the logic.
Yeah, ai need to ask a guy like Gym Leader Matt about doing original ROM hacks like that. He's done quote a few on his channel.
May the algorithm continue to favor your videos
Thank you, but I think algorithm just means audience, so as long as folks like you are enjoying, the "algorithm" will take care of itself. Thank you for the support!
I just subscribed. Very good content here.
Dude, thank you so much!
Wait, Psywave does damage equal to 1 to 5 times the user's level? That means at level 100 it's already better than Psychic.
1 famage to 1.5 times the user's level damage
That was AWESOME! I had been waiting for this for awhile. I'm glad blue at least beat lance again. But the poor guy just cant put down Red.
Yeah the champ is a beast, Hydro Pump misses don't help wither 😂
Wouldn't surf be a better choice possibly due to having full accuracy (as far as gen1 goes) and much nore pp?
Definitely, we have been discussing on Discord and some other comments. I went with Hydro Pump because it was used in the LegendKarp run, and I wasn't 100% sure I could do minimum battles without it. This was a first attempt with no optimizations, after all. But if I ever "optimize_ the run, Growth and Surf are making the set over Amnesia and Hydro Pump
This was pretty good! I hope you'll do Vulpix and Ninetales at some point! The foxes need some love. 🦊
Good analogy. He'll be able to brute force it eventually, but it's going to take a while....
Magikarp is finally useful in some causes folks (Still probably be better off evolving it)
Definitely. Gyarados with this moveset is better than vanilla Mewtwo IMHO
The most extreme example of the Flareon Theorem. XD
Precisely. Movesets trump all, especially in Gen 1. I really like to test the theorems of FSG here from time to time
First video of yours I'm watching, you've got a nice set-up.
@RBYPokemonChallenges he's a good egg :) keep it up.
I'd be real curious to see how much setup magikarp needs against brock
Surely -- surely! Hydropump would be enough on its own
Hydro Pump is actually a range, not a guaranteed OHKO.
Technically still stronger lol I was dying a bit inside when I first got to Flareon with 2 PP left just to get 2 misses in a row....
@@RBYPokemonChallenges Hey, you know the drill - technically correct, the best (worst) kind of correct xD
Just discovered your channel and love your content!
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying! more to come!
@@RBYPokemonChallenges I actually had to turn it off because it was too engaging to have on in the background, which is sort of a compliment!
I will work on being a little less interesting lol
Here's a challenge: Mewtwo with tackle, growl, poison sting (for the ghosts), and splash. I thought about sonic boom for the ghosts (yes, it can hit them in gen 1) but that would make the early game too easy. And seismic toss/ nightshade would be too powerful in the late game. Poison could be utilized on other Pokémon, but I still think it's the worst choice that would actually allow you to beat Agatha and the Pokémon tower.
We've been talking about basically this set, except Constrict in the place of Tackle. Would be interesting to see what level it would take, especially since everything is resisted by rock-types as well.
hydrogen baby versus coughing bomb is finally real
You know, it had to happen eventually. Can't say I know the refer nce though. Care to enlighten me?
really good video!
Thanks! More to come!
Do Weedle instead of Caterpie to get more painful weaknesses... at the cost of being immune to getting poisoned
ChadLe will exist
What is a batch boost?
lol, must be the auto subtitiles.
Could Growth be superior to Amnesia due to badge boosts?
Yeah, we:ve been discussing a second run in the future with Surf and Growth
I'm blind, really cool to hear you're low vision. Great content keep it up x
Thank you! Glad that some folks feel the same way about animations.
Gee willickers Batman, i think i found a new creator to fill in between Scott's Thought's.. because STs is imo the god tier poketuber.. however i see your future to be up there in the hall of fame.. godspeed fellow pokemaster
Scotty is definitely God-Tier! Glad to fill the gap!
Tbh I feel surf is a better move just for the accuracy. The rest.... Great run
Yeah, were talking a Surf/ Growth run to try it out, likely as a livestream
Damn, i guess Godkarp visited me in my dream last night even though i havent watched this vid yet lmao.
That is incredible. GodKarp is real!
I think your gym leader and Elite Four intros could stand to be shorter, and I feel it's redundant to play them twice in a comparison video especially since they are so long. You also cut yourself off in your editing a few times.
Thanks for the feedback gaminggoddess!
Quality display, quality voice, quality content 👍
Thank you! I am glad you are enjoying!
You, my friend have a quality avatar and quality taste in anime
It really is astounding just how bad Psywave is. Random level-based attack power, no STAB or super-effective modifiers, AND it doesn't even get 100% accuracy until Gen 6?
Truly awful.
Arguably the WORST attacking move of Gen 1
51:27 It was only a 2 hit on Hitmonlee because of a crit. Bruno is that trash.
Exactly. Bruno is just bad 😂
May the algorithm bless you 🔥🔥🔥
Dude, you folks watching and commenting are the algorithm! That you so much for blessing me by coming and watching my videos!!!
When I read the title I can only read
Coughing Bomb vs Hydrogen baby
Something like that 😂
