    Volume 6 was much better episodically than any of the other volume of the series. They finally got the pacing of a volume right, and you could really feel it. The strength of volume 6 was in the characters, which to many is more compelling than the plot. This was the first time that Ruby, the lead of the show, had any agency in the story since volume 3. Plus the conclusion of Yang and Blake's arc with Adam is the most satisfying part of this show.

  • @allocat5867
    @allocat5867 4 года назад +17

    Volume 5 got the backlash because it was much less fulfilling to watch week to week. The writers clearly do not write the show episodically, and it shows when you watch week to week. Also, the last 4 episodes promised a lot of action that we had been looking forward to for a long time, and it was largely underwhelming. I tend to agree that upon rewatch, and especially while binging, volume 5 is much better than its initial reputation would have you believe.

    I'm so happy to see that someone can actually make a positive in-depth analysis of this show. Everywhere I look everyone seems to have more complaints than praise and while I can see and understand every complaint It hurts to see so much shit talk about a show that I do genuinely love.

      However I do agree with your previous comment that this review was pretty much a in-depth nuance analysis the whole 3 other volumes and how positive it is. I was expecting it to just be another 15 minute rant on how bad it is and so many holes since that's a popular thing in RUclips to do just that, particularly when it comes to RWBY. while rwby has always had good fights, volume 7 is probably the first time every major fight scene has been consistently great. which makes up for the structural mess that was the last 3-4 episodes of volume 5
    volume 7 also happens to be my favorite of the entire series so far. it's only real shortcoming imo is that because of how much focus the narrative of this season has, there isn't as much time for those little character moments that previous ones had. not to say they aren't there, just that the newest season shifted it's priorities slightly. which i don't mind, because what i got was a real rollercoaster of emotions that I haven't gotten out of any show in a pretty long time, especially those last 3 episodes.
    also, the first half of volume 6 is probably some of the best material in the show period, and the Adam fight near the end is possibly the best fight in the series.
    If I had to rank the volumes
    7 > 4 > 6 > 3 > 2 > 5 > 1

    An excellent and long awaited review! And I swear I’m not just saying that because we agree on just about everything you said. I really liked Ironwood this season and Salem’s backstory was great! But one thing I wished you talked about more was my favorite villain of the series: Adam Taurus. Adam is my favorite for many reasons: he’s got an awesome design and fighting style, a constantly improving voice actor, arguably the best fights of the series, he’s one of the few villains who actually gets anything done besides Cinder or Salem, and he’s such a personal antagonist for our heroes . Plus he’s based on two characters from my second favorite Disney movie ( the beast and Gaston from beauty and the beast. Like the beast Adam has horn’s, explosive temper and a past romantic connection with a beauty. Like Gaston Adam is charismatic and manipulative, arrogant, and has a grudge against Blake for rejecting him and choosing someone he views as less worthy.) His backstory is never fully explained but you can tell by the scar on his face that he’s been brutalized and how from his character short he went from an angry young man to a psychotic monster because he was emotionally rewarded for killing people. I’m not defending his actions, the guys a monster, but he’s one I like to watch and see succeed and fail because he’s just so interesting for me. Adam is like Ramsay Bolton and Anakin Skywalker mixed together. Salem is still probably the shows best villain but I’ll always love Adam.

The show is called Sarazanmai. I've never seen Dears or Outlaw Company or Akikan, but this could be right up there as one of the worst anime out there. Let me rephrase that it could possibly be the worst TV show in history. Just read a synopsis & that pretty much tells you everything you need to know, but that wouldn't even cover even half the stuff that makes this show so bad. It just sucks. Bottom line. If you watch it &, by some miracle you like it, i would be shocked. The characters are terrible. The premise is terrible. The art style is terrible. Just skip it. or watch it. Whatever.

    Volume 6's biggest focus was on the reveal for Ozpin/Salem, and the aftermath of it. Finding the will to go on despite the literal impossible task of stopping Salem being dumped on their feet while Ozpin secludes himself away. The Brunswick arc expounds on this as they struggle with finding motivation to continue, while coming across a perfect example of what may happen should they give into apathy(both literal Apathy and emotional). Even Ruby almost succumbs to it, only snapping out of it with her silver eyes finally coming into play(and her newfound mentor with them in Maria).
    The reason V5 was disliked more than the others, was that it retread alot of old information, set up a lot of action scenes only to leave them unresolved(for example Ruby calling for Checkmate when the team *finally* reunited only for us to transition to the vault), as well as an utter lack of exploration for Mistral. It was simply unfulfilling on numerous occasions, and just left us with an unexplored Kingdom with a disappointing finale.

      Fireheart47 V6E3 contradicts what V3 and Divide established to be Salem’s motivations. They had nothing to do with gods, nothing to do with immortality, nothing to do with human nature, and everything to do with Oz, his shadow government, and their use of human shields. There are multiple contradictory motivations in this episode. Does Salem hate the gods and want them gone? Does she want to bring them back to “replace” or “improve” human nature using the macguffins? Does she want to die, or destroy the planet in order to kill herself? Does she want to eliminate the gods forever and take over the planet? This whole episode does not establish any actual issue she has with Oz and his shadow government, and her conquering the world herself makes no sense with her hatred of the shadow government. It goes from her hating the tyrannical gods, to wanting to die, to all of a sudden wanting to collect the macguffins so she can summon the gods to improve human nature, something which is incoherent with the rest of the episode and with previous seasons.
      A huge part of the problem is the final conversation. Salem, out of nowhere, all of a sudden, inconsistent with the rest of the episode, wants to BRING THE GODS BACK using the macguffins after Oz tells her about them so that she can “upgrade” or “replace” human nature. This does not match her hating the gods, there is no reason for her to have this motivation, and it does not tie back to her hating Oz at all.
      Oz makes no sense in opposing Salem taking over the world, because he was given a mission to take over the world by the asshole gods, and then went to take over the world himself (ruling it from secret too!) after he split with Salem. Similarly, Salem makes no sense in overthrowing Oz’s shadow government because she tried to take over the world herself, and yet shows no interest in ruling the world now. Almost like everything in this episode is a retcon completely incoherent with the original plan for these characters, which we saw in previous seasons…
      The Maidens have been retconned into being Oz and Salem’s kids. As in, biological children. What the fuck? So thanks to that retcon, not only is Oz’s fairy tale a lie (which come on, you gave us an entire 15 minute WoR on all the details of that, but it’s complete bullshit now?) but his later reaffirming claim in V5 that he gave the Maidens their powers when they were 4 young women (just like in the story) is also a lie for…some reason. Oh, and don’t tell me those aren’t the Maidens. 4 kids who have the power to use “magic” and are all seasonally color coded? Obviously the fucking Maidens.
      Salem’s reason for being upset with being immortal and wanting revenge on the gods is not having Oz with her. The motivations of “I want to die” and “fuck the gods” make no sense after Oz was brought back and made immortal as well. The episode is just so incoherent...
      Oz claims in V5 that all of his “magic” powers are part of the “curse” of being immortal, but now they’re just a thing that all humans could use and he has as a byproduct of being a pre-extinction human. On top of that his immortality has nothing to do with Salem. The “good” god basically just told him to take over the world so he can prove human goodness or whatever. Oz claims he can break his immortality by “stopping Salem” in V5E3, but as I said before, 1. his immortality has nothing to do with Salem, his mission was to take over Remnant, 2. he’s literally been told by an omniscient being that it is literally impossible to get rid of her, and 3. Salem is (somehow) trying to do the same thing as him by bringing the gods back. None of this makes any sense.
      Oz’s bodyjacking has also been retconned. We have been shown that there is only one soul that eventually absorbs the newest host into itself. The way that Oz spoke to Oscar about it made it very clear that eventually they merge together. He identifies himself both as the original soul and the person who heard the previous host in their head (talking both about being the immortal soul and about how he had the same experience as Oscar when he was possessed), meaning that the souls merge together. They seem to have retconned it now to the host always having her own mind and the original soul just sitting in the back of their head passively offering advice. This doesn’t make any sense with how he behaved in previous seasons, or what he said to Oscar. This can’t just be dismissed as him lying again, either. He would not have any reason to lie about the process being worse than it actually is. It makes no logical sense for him to lie here, the only explanation is that they retconned it.
      Even if you assume the worst possible motivations for Salem out of the 4 we're provided in that episode, there is no possible way to spin Ozpin as the "good guy" here after this episode. Not only does he rule the world from secret via a shadow government and use people unknowingly as human shields to maintain it, but his ultimate goal with all of this is to call the even more tyrannical gods who wiped out the human race back to lord over it again. That's fucking horrifying and continues to justify all actions done to overthrow him.
      Oh, and one more thing - if Oz can win by summoning the gods using the macguffins after uniting the world under his rule, why the FUCK did he never do so in the hundred fucking years he had with the world and the macguffins under his cabal's control? Yet more proof that V6E3 was not planned - the plot point of him ruling the world for a hundred years was not written with V6E3 in mind, since V6E3 was made up later. (The macguffins were too, but that’s beside the point).
      Salem now has 4 contradictory motivations instead of the interesting single one she had before, the entire conflict makes no fucking sense whatsoever thanks to both sides having motivations which have fuckall to do with each other anymore, the protagonists have no moral issue with the fact they've sided with a despicable fucking dictator who wants to bring back two even worse genocidal dictators, and said despicable dictator had a hundred years to easily accomplish his goal and yet never did. V6E3 killed any chances of RWBY's plot recovering from the shit state V4E8 put it into with its macguffins, and has actively made it worse.

    • @soarel325
      @soarel325 4 года назад +1

      Salem has 4 different motivations:
      Eliminate the gods as revenge and take over the planet
      Bring the gods back after dividing the current humans so they can "replace" or "upgrade" them
      Blow up the planet in order to kill herself
      Overthrow Oz and give the planet back to humanity (or herself?), no gods involved
      The last one is her original motivation from V3E12 and Divide and was presumed through V4-5, as her behavior in those seasons both towards Oz and towards her allies is only consistent with that motivation. The first 3 are from V6E3.
      The writers can't make up their minds.

      The show was clearly setting up Blake and Yang's relationship since Volume 3. It certainly didn't just happen out of nowhere. Sun drilled into her that her attitude was selfish, only hurts her friends, and then helped her with everything that was going on in Vol 4 and 5, but that's because he's a good person who cares about her. There were no hints of anything romantic going on between them or happening as a result of his actions during that time. He did what he wanted to do for her, then left because he knows that being with her team is ultimately what's best for her.
      That's not to say Blake x Yang becoming an item is definitely going to become a thing, but anyone who says it'd be forced is either in denial or doesn't like the ship and wants to justify it.

    #1: blake has been a worse person in these past 4 volumes, than Weiss ever was, for example she's mean to Sun, she abandoned her entire team, and her and yang put the entire mission in jeopardy when they confronted Robyn, and overall she's a bad character. Also, the writers don't show that blake and Adam have an abusive relationship, until she leaves him, in every scene we see him in before the black trailer, we see a happy friendly relationship, the first mental or physical damage he actually caused her was at the fall of beacon when he stabbed her, and cut yangs arm off. Meanwhile, she's being mentally and physically abusive to Sun for 1 and a half volumes.
    #2: RUBY IS NOT A HERO!!! She's just a 16 year old, trying to mentally be a 30 year old, while having the mentality of a 12 year old. For instance, she has extremely stupid speeches, goes along with jaunes dumbass plan in vol 6, puts the mission in jeopardy 4 times in 2 volumes, lies to ironwood, and is willing to risk the fucking world to save a couple thousand lives.
    10:10 he also has to deal with team rwby betraying his trust, 2 times so far.
    If you disagree with any of the points I made please let me know why.
