I checked my MAL account and apparently I've watched this entire show... but I couldn't tell you a single thing about it.

Honestly, the long titles are more entertaining than the shows themselves.
I still question why Light Novel titles are so friggin long?

You want another example of an overpowered character done well, look at Ikki from Chivalry of a Failed Knight. Yeah, he wins every single fight he's involved in, but he's very adaptable and the joy of the swordfights come from not only Ikki's goals, but how he feels like an actual underdog due to how weak his magical abilities were and how his family always treated him like he was the black sheep, yet he still was encouraged by his grandfather, and his romance with Stella feels very real and engaging. Or hell, Yumeko from Kakegurui, a gambling anime, which yes, she's overpowered, but her personality and how she makes her opponents squirm because she just wants to feel that thrill from the gambling matches, and the animation of her insanity and love of gambling help sell how crazy she gets. Overpowered characters can work as long as you give them a personality and make the way they win more exciting than the win themselves.
I've seen C.O.A.F.K. in the past I found Ikki's personality to be alright. Stella's too. The romance I had a soft spot in that series. I was hoping there'd be a Season 2 in the future. Though seriously the incest sister of Ikki's I had problems with.
Plus he is using double-edge moves every time he fights. His fight with Stella ended up with her walking and him in hospital bed.
I don't consider this Ikki overpowered

@@leonardofarias8843 After training, in the novels he defeats the third strongest blazer out there, defeats and kills, and unlike the common people, experienced fighters could see that Ikki controlled the fight from beginning to end, his adversary played onto his hands and never had any chance, which gave Ikki the title of Sword Saint.
The “overpowered isekai MC” is the anime equivalent of female characters in Disney live action remakes; be perfect and flawless(I.e boring) so they can show their demographic they can just wake up perfect because girl power-I mean nerds can be powerful too.

You want a good OP MC? Watch Chivalry of a failed Knight or Misfit of the Demon academy
You want a good Isekai? Watch Konosuba
You want both? Watch That time i got reincarnated as a slime
The story clearly doesn't really takes itself seriously and its amazing how people just seem unable to notice its clearly bad on purpose. I mean, later in the novel they are fighting with giant mechas and the MC's overpowered skills sometimes are blatantly written to be almost ridiculous as something out of One Punch Man or Isekai Maou Gakuen.

Lazy art is such ashame since art can have such amazing power when done well. At least reviews are good for sorting stuff out so good job!
I actually cringe when people make the "You only like/dislike it because of this person" argument.
Cause people watch review videos to get a general idea of what to expect from said show, then decide weather or not to interact with it. It shouldn't affect anyone else.

As for the explanation about the gods, the god Touya spoke to first is actually the god of worlds rather than based on any existing mortal pantheon they are more akin to cosmic beings that just manages the aspects of the multiverse.
Catching your on vids. Just finished watching this before I got to your vid and honestly I am. SHOCKED you didnt mention Sword Art Online once. First thing I thought when I saw him was "ok so he's Kirito" lol.

You know I've seen so many other more over powered characters in Dragonball that it doesn't seem to bother me now. I actually liked those live action Disney Remakes. I get the feeling ShadowACS hates calm and collected characters unlike me who has sympathy for them. Goku, Piccolo, Kazuto Kirigaya, Shaman King Yoh and Sonic the Hedgehog. I have a small number of things in common with them. I own 28 light novels of Sao.
I have to admit I liked the opening scene, the whole show is a guilty pleasure, it's bad I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. It's basically Kirito if he had cheats and even less personally. Honestly I hate that I kinda like it, I've binged the whole show I know that it sucks on so many levels but I can't really hate it. It's a weird one for Shure. I couldn't really put my finger on what I like about it, and the worst aspect of the show is definitely the main character to me

I know this reply is late, but I just finished season 1 of this anime, and honestly it's generic as hell.
Two things I can say about it are, the moments when Touya casts Slip got a chuckle outta me,
and spoiler: this is the first and so far only harem anime I know of to have polygamy.
@@nine_tails137 true, and I've watched the first two episodes of the second season, until I remembered there are better show's running and I'm "saving it" for when I have nothing else to watch
@@shadowzero3983 Funny you should say that, cause I streamed all 12 episodes of season 1 out of sheer boredom. Plus it doesn't help that most seasonal anime, are rushed out like crazy, with no time to shine, nor do they get a second season. It's basically become "quantity over quality" at this point.

Actually the author of the series wrote this online after buying his smartphone and posted it online eventually he fixed the story as he goes until it got serialized.
If you want to watch a good isekai anime, I recommend The Rising of the Shield Hero, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and Ascendance of a Bookworm

Reminds me of Mushoku tensei Isekai Ittara when cloud guy refer himself as GOD as well and the age problem. Try Tatoeba last dungeon Mae where every girl is in love with the MC. Lloyd is even worse than this guy is.
ShadowACS while i respect your view there is one point you got wrong the main character uses his smartphone beyond the 1st ep i am not picking fights with anyone just wanting to let you know in case you didn't again not picking fights becuasue of how toxic youtube can be when people don't like what is said.(thatt is my exp)

While I agree with a lot of this review... I found myself enjoying the anime enough to re-watch it several times anyways. It was oddly fun to see Toya look for ways to combine the different spells available, and combine one or two spells with that phone.. almost like he was solving a puzzle. Not sure if the novels did that aspect better. But the anime (as it was) managed to be fun.
In a similar vein, I binge watched "Didn't I Say To Make My Abilities Average In The Next Life" during the same week I found this one. Both of these two shows were silly in a pretty fun way.
This, both shows were dumb as all get out, but they were "fun" to watch. There wasn't anything really wrong with them and nothing really redeeming about them. They were the definition of "mindless" entertainment. simple shows with a unique enough premise and character interactions to not be completely boring.
I actually recommend the webnovels, It actually has alot more details that the anime skipped, the Phrase wars and the Babylon islands is a pretty interesting part of the series.

You're rant about Touya is exactly the reason why I was unable to get into the Overlord series. It's made quite clear, very early on, that nothing in the world could possibly pose a threat of Ainz and his forces, so what point is there to watching any of the fights when we knew that their opponents are always going to lose? Even something like Ainz being forced to kill Shalltear are meaningless, because he just revives her immediately after.
Eh, Ainz came across as more "the Devil" than anything else.
So, Ainz being overpowered, never really bothered me all that much.
Plus it's stated during the series, that most of the time he holds back, and doesn't try to end the fights too quickly.
But I can totally understand why Ainz doesn't appeal to you.

There is far too many isekai anime. We get at least 10 different isekai every bloody year, but we still do not have a second season for Baccano.
Yeah the genre is pretty over saturated with people trying to cash in that it's hard to find good ones. Though smartphone is OK if you just want a mostly slice of life series isekai.

my reaction is always the same: "ENOUGH WITH THE BLOODY ISEKAIS ALREADY!"
Also, if the MC has no plans to return home, why make it an Isekai in the first place?
Just have it take place in the fantasy world like Granblue Fantasy. Then they have no reason to leave, because the fantasy world IS their home!
Ok let's breakdown Touya vs King Jamukha fight
After banning [slip] they first fought in melee with Yae commenting that King Jamukha had the advantage, Touya tried to use Blinding sand, a 3 verse spell, obviously a amateur move that Jamukha shield bash him for, Touya use [multiple] as a feint to kill his momentum allowing Touya to use [boost] which the King dodge using his trump card [accel] instead of instantly winning King Jamukha allowed Touya to dodge and explained his spell. Not knowing that Touya can copy spells and had a high mana count the fight turned into a stamina game in which Touya won.
This established alot of things:
Touya is a talented amateur that uses his abilities cunningly and the potential of other people with unique and tricky abilities that can threaten Touya.
So did Touya really won by strength or by just being in a forgiving circumstance, King Jamukha could have use [accel] from the start to win.
If the next one is "HS DxD"... I've been waiting for this one. If not, well what else is there (and what is it with all the harem reviews recently...? not that I'm complaining)

I liked this anime...you say he didnt earn it but well as God established at the beginning...he was a good guy that was killed wrongfully by him...so he kinda gave him all this power as a compensation...also what should have been changed personality wise?...I mean I would have liked to be like him in that situation...I don't want to be the all-time defender of this anime but I really don't think it deserves the hate you give it...it's just a fun time anime that doesn't need insane tension

TBF, I just finished watching this anime not too long ago, and his reasons for disliking it are totally understandable.
I can't enjoy an anime, where the MC constantly one-shots everything with little to no effort. He's essentially just Thanos snapping away his problems. It's a problem I have with a lot of power fantasies in anime. The world the MC travels to, is designed in a way, where everything is easy, and weaker than him/her. Or as Linkara once said: "If it's that easy for them to win, why should we in any way be scared or worried about the outcome of said fights?"

@@FeelGoodPain This is why I've avoided the Isekai genre for so long. It's been nothing but cookie-cutter plots done better in other shows. It's basically become quantity over quality at this point. The only modern Isekai shows I like(as of this reply) are Overlord and Shield Hero. Because one of them doesn't feel like an Isekai, while the other had: a main character who isn't super OP, gets framed for a crime he didn't commit, he has to work hard to get stronger, and there's no generic harem.
Hey ShadowACS, um......if I may, I would like to introduce to you a show that is EXACTLY like "In Another World with my Smartphone" BUT......it completely MOCKS and PARODIES the literal @#$% out of it! This anime is called Konosuba. Like "The Smartphone Garbage Show" the following things happen:
Main character dies in an accident
They meet God in the afterlife who reincarnates them in another world
They get to choose one thing to take with them to this new world
They have a party of 3 girls who are far less competent than them
One of those girls has a name that's uncommon to the rest of the party because she comes from a different culture whose naming convntions are unusual to foreigners
Both can use a magical spell to steal things from other people
The first thing they do with this power is embarrass a woman by stealing a piece of her clothing.
BUT........I promise you this: Konosuba does it RIGHT!!! I promise you that, I swear. If you're interested, then by all means, it is WORTH checking out; but if you're not interested, then don't sweat it. Happy Veterans Day! ^_^

@@nine_tails137 Personally my favnourite is the Familar of Zero which came out way before the Isekai boom happened the MC is in that actaully is relatable and not that op plus he actually had personality unlike modern isekei MC's.
@@iceagepenguinrace9788 I can definitely agree to that. Although personally, I don't like Louise. I would have preferred it if Saito hooked up with one of the girls who was actually nice to him. Like Siesta, Henrietta or Tiffania for example. Plus as far as Tsundere love interests go, I like Taiga from Toradora a lot more.

Especially since, unlike Louise, she doesn't treat Saito as her personal punching bag. Taiga at least was more sympathetic than Louise, despite being a Tsundere. Louise IMO, is just a spoiled brat.
yup and while there are some small challenges for him later on... it's not much. I somehow read up to what would likely be a "season 2" ending and it's just meh. Average at best. I see shows like this as being a "slice of life" for guys.

I think he might wait until the 2nd half (coming out this December) is finished, then review the whole show.
It's actually a nuance but Touya calmly accepting his death and all the things that happened to him is actually a raised flag on what his background is.
Technically he loses alot the novels after introducing shogi never won against anyone in that world and actually appears to be terrible at games in general.
Didn't he lost to Elze and Yae in ep 12.

Please, Please for all that is good in the universe stop having Isekai anime in fantasy settings.
There are so many other genres that they could use.
Sci-fi, are hero gets a cool spaceship with a harem of alien babes.
Horror, being trapped in a giant victorian mansion with monsters and traps. Or are hero gets turn into a vampire and have to deal with the politics of a dozen vampire clan.

Post apocalypse, Fallout or something.

The only isekai i'm aware of that isn't fantasy is pretty crap. The series is called "I'm really a superstar". The mc is transported into a world where talent in the arts (singing, poetry, songwriting, etc) is everything with leaderboards n shit. The mc doesn't get ahead in the new world on his own merits but instead plagiarize popular works from his world that conveniently don't exist in the new world.
even though that's all technically fantasy, as well... lol
One thing that always bugs me about Isekai series,
is whenever the MC gets to the other world, they never wanna leave!(aka: no home sickness)
Like, if you're gonna go that route, why make it an Isekai in the first place?
Just have it take place "IN" the fantasy world from the start?!(reincarnation plots being the only exception, since the MC is already dead)

You can tell how unoriginal this is just by the female character designs alone. The black haired girl looks like if Reimu Hakurei wore Sakura Shinguji’s outfit, and the twins are literally just Kyou and Ryou from Clannad.

One thing I feel makes a strong character likeable, is giving them flaws.
So when you make a character OP to the point where they can one-shot everything,
the show as a whole, becomes super boring. Just like Power Rangers Megaforce. And I'm a PR fan!

You've never read the Light Novel Series this is based on, right? No, of course not. You're just assuming that you know everything about the series, on just the anime. Just like butthurt fans who think they know all about Superman by watching the cartoon and never reading a DC comic.
In Another World With My Smartphone has been around since 2013 and has hit 26 novels at this point. The first season only covers vol.1-3. Yes, there is a 2nd season coming up in 2023 in April. And things get more interesting.
All I heard was you complaining about how this series doesn't follow the usual protagonist struggles to get to the top, defeat the boss, gets the girl, etc. If they did that, then it would be no different from any other isekai. That by itself can be boring. You want recycled genre plots? Try Dragon Ball Super.
The Smartphone series does its own thing by simply letting Touya do his own thing. There's no cliché struggle to get everyone to respect him and him undergoing long-winded trials and such. And there's nothing wrong for him to take the simplest solution. Like Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Just shoot the guy.
Gee, I wonder what other series does the same thing by the simplest of means? Right, One-Punch Man. I enjoy the Smartphone series for what it is. A fun romp which allows Touya and the viewers to take things at their own pace. Put yourself in Touya's shoes. Would you want to through the long, tedious and monotonous cliché journey? Or do you want to just say, to heck with that and start bringing in freaking Gundams into a magical world? Yes, that was a bit of a spoiler for Season 2. But you're not interested, right?
When I frist started watching animes,I thought that this Anime was AMAZING (I was 13 then so pls don't roast me for liking this garbage anime,now I'm 16)

I remember Shadow announcing somewhere shortly after Dragoon left RUclips that Dragoon told him he was quitting RUclips for personal reasons. That's the extent to what we were told.

That harem anime made me pretty salty probably because all the females were instantly ok with being in the harem.

Every other harem is just: "Let's cock tease the audience, by NOT having the MC choose any of the girls in his harem."

For me there are 3 anime that I can describe the best isekai’s and are more worth watching then this show: the rising of the shield hero, konosuba and Re:Zero!

The only other Isekai I liked(not including the ones on your list), is Overlord.
Mostly because it didn't feel like an Isekai, and more like: "This is what the Reaper and his minions do in their spare time."(aka: this is what Hell is like).

Well, just another anime to add to my list of "Never watch EVER!". it's a list that is growing. Here's hoping the next one is at least good. I think I talked about one anime that i regret watching within 10 mins of watching it. I can't remember the title, but OMG! IT WAS TERRIBLE! The premise was terrible. The characters were awful. The animation even sucked. The opening line of the show is "Hi my name is Fred (I can't remember the name so i'm giving him one) & there are three things you have to know about me. 1) I have to carry this cardboard box around everywhere i go no matter what." silence. 2)...I can't remember what 2 was but OMG you don't drop a bomb like that without some more information. I can hear you screaming this in your review if you ever did one. Yeah, i watch A LOT of your vids & I can tell that would be one anime that you would definetly not like. Or maybe you will. I never finished it as it was just too painful to sit through after 10 mins of the show. The phrase "This can't possibly get any worse was a phrase kept using & regretted it immediately as it got worse & worse. If it wasn't the animation, it was the premise. If it wasn't that, it was the awful characters. The thing that broke me & made to very quickly switch to anything else is that the show had a group of teenagers get superpowers & they go & fight their first baddie. And what is the first thing they do? THEY BREAK OUT INTO A SONG & DANCE!" WHAT?! Ugghh! If anyone can recognize this show, please tell me what it was.
