    I can't believe I've been watching your videos for almost 10 years now. It's nice that you're still making videos although your channel isn't exactly taking off. I suppose you'd have to sell out and capitalise on current fads and act like "hello fellow kids".
    I had yasuke on my pla to watch, but after reading some comments on it I quickly lost interest. seems like that was the correct decision.

    First of all no one was even thinking of the whole “whitesplaining” nonsense. You could’ve taken the time to talk about this piece of Black culture (even though it’s more a piece of JAPANESE culture but whatever) so you could’ve done more than limit yourself to what you’re supposedly allowed to talk about.
    Secondly, while I did kinda like a lot of stuff around this film, which in all honesty this really IS what it is: a Netflix film split into four episodes, I’m REALLY glad that someone was brave enough to criticize this for not utilizing such a historical figure like I and many others have been hoping for it to be.
    Even in day one, I was left disappointed with the story being everything BUT a anime ABOUT the titular character. I mean, you’d think that with a show about a black historical figure being being worked on by a black guy with a history on animation, you’d think it would be in better hands, to a certain extent.
    Simply put, Samurai Warriors 5 handled him MUCH better than this did, and that’s been a Japanese only developed title that lacks an English dub.
    Heck, even Afro Samurai did this concept of Black samurai in a world with feudal and fantasy elements merged together better than this did! And that was over a decade ago! And need I even say more about Samurai Jack?

    Yasuke I enjoyed but it definitely should have not had scifi & magic elements. Its strong elements are in his backstory when he first arrived in Japan. Personally had I written the show Idve made it wholesale about his life while a future timeline shows Yasuke decades later reflecting on this. But the future where Yasuke is old is the B plot & not the focus. Id have also gone further jnto his past and explore the speculation about his life such as how Yasuke probablh wasn’t a slave when he came to Japan but a mercenary whod fought in the Middle East and India. And of course explore the speculation of his origins as its still likey he was a slave as a child and kidnapped probably from Eastern Africa (now people think based on his physical description that he was a Dinka from Sudan and that has a lot to explore).
    Its fault was not being a historical based anime. Even stuff like Rurouni Kenshin which while it could be fantastical was still grounded in reality. No magic or superpowers but characters who gained abilities through physical prowess. Yasuke shouldve taken nods from that. The action was pretty decent and I like Yasuke as a character. But the supernatural & scifi elements just did not gel at all.

  • @ryanw531

    To be fair, most anime/manga involving historical figures have f-ck all to do with actual history. They generally have a few types:
    Alternative/secret history - historical events are just mentioned as timestamps for the fictional story.
    Modern day person time travel/reincarnated into past - a lot of stuff is retconned to the MC's favor.
    Historical Character time travel/reincarnated into modern day - mostly using the character's historic deeds to justify stuff they do to solve problems.
    Historical character is a goofball or moe blob that everyone around them/historians see their mistakes/luck as genius or competence.
    Recreation of History with fake nations like The Great War ll with Germania(not Germany) or Chill War with USSSR(not USSR).

    Wait, didn't ShadowACS review an anime about some generic male character protagonist who gets killed by an "angel" living with him and then brought back? She also has like a hammer or some iron with spikes on it attached to some wood. She also had some sister that is like some military position and tries to keep her older sister in line and she's like twelve. The plot was about the protagonist being killed off because he invents something that makes men all pedos.

    • @Kenzirs
      @Kenzirs 2 года назад +3

      It's not closed minded, It's just annoying. Being this overly sensitive hurts the cause if anything. Just makes us look like assholes. Like, as a black guy myself I'm not gonna be mad because someone of another race is explaining anything related to my history?? Especially since we are *ALL* related to said history in some way. You can't monopolise history

      @Christian--- 2 года назад +1

      @@Kenzirs Maybe I'm overly sensitive cause these are the waters I swim in so to say, but even just calling it a "cause" isn't helping you because you sound like a reasonable guy and the people driving this cause aren't on board with your take.

    • @Kenzirs
      @Kenzirs 2 года назад +2

      @@Christian--- I humbly disagree. I used "cause" as a general term. Most of these movements share the same goal. While I can't speak for everyone, the desire for most minority groups is to be treated fairly. No one likes to be constantly reminded of their skin color in every aspect of their lives. It's annoying and exhausting honestly.
      The problems show up when people are either:
      A. Overly cautious/sensitive around minorities out of fear of being offensive (this is an unpleasant experience for both parties).
      or
      B. Outright bigots.
      Just be yourself and have empathy towards your fellow human (not you specifically). If you say something offensive and are called out for it, simply apologize, try to learn from your mistake and move on. This requires some amount of humility. Barring extreme circumstances, the only people who won't accept this are the radicals who are generally in the tiny minority of any group or movement.
      Apologies for the long paragraph. Been following Shadow for years and this was a little bit disappointing. Not that I don't understand the reasoning.

    • @Christian---
      @Christian--- 2 года назад +2

      @@Kenzirs Agreed, seems you are fairly on top of what you're about and probably realise these radicals on both ends don't share our values. But again I am sensitive to "keywords" like that because the culture war involving these things is what I deal with on the daily.
