    had no idea mounting rc car tires has become a minor science. very informative.

    thanks this is very helpful. i recently got a losi buggy and i needed to make sure i was gluing the tires properly. the last time i had a tmaxx 3.3 insteed of gluing the tires back i just bought bead locks and i didn't want to do that again

  • @demonsparkx
    @demonsparkx 14 лет назад

    This would still work for a tmaxx? Stock rims and tires. The old glue was black like tar and hard as a rock but was cracked everywhere. Does this glue dry black or clear?

    @indy34096 The only ones that won't need trimming are molded ones.

    whats your thoughts on taping the tire first

  • @steverc8
    @steverc8 9 лет назад

    Thanks for the "how to" HH. The tip to trim the inside corner of the foam helped, the bead of the tire didn't seat firmly until that was done.

    Would it be ok to use 409 instead of that other spray? Also, Would you use the same type of process for 3.8 off-road tires and rims?

    do all foams need to be trimmed?

    What black wheels are those you are using in this video?

  • @WuPmAsTeR
    @WuPmAsTeR 15 лет назад

    Ok, can I wash the tires and rims out with JUST water, no soap and dry it off really well with a paper or cloth towel? I know not to wash the foam with the tire. I have a set of 3.8 tires and rims. Would you do the same process of gluing the tires for those?

    will nitro power kleen work instead of magnum force?

  • @horizonhobby
    @horizonhobby  12 лет назад +2

    That's one step that we just didn't show. I use a cut piece of old tire insert to wipe the glue off of the wheel/tire.

    I've seen people use Carb cleaner but I don't know if Its a good way to clean your nitro motor

  • @realwordsoftruth

    do you have to punch holes in the tire? been seeing that said in various videos, along with the wheels.

    • @horizonhobby
      @horizonhobby  10 лет назад

      When we filmed this I would have leaned towards not punching a hole in the tires for many 1/10-scale vehicles. However with the adaptation of the closed-cell inserts they don't "breathe" as well as the open cell inserts so I would recommend punching a hole in the tire. The wheels should always have a hole open.

  • @FLSharkdiver

    Is that the inner side or the outer side of the tire that you're glueing #HorizonHobby?

  • @horizonhobby
    @horizonhobby  14 лет назад

    @demonsparkx I'm willing to bet the black you're talking of is hardened rubber, not the CA. CA is always clear.

  • @horizonhobby
    @horizonhobby  14 лет назад

    @WuPmAsTeR Use either motor spray or nitro cleaner.

  • @horizonhobby
    @horizonhobby  13 лет назад

    @123xyan I tend to stick to Losi, Dynamite or AKA CA, no pun intended

  • @horizonhobby
    @horizonhobby  15 лет назад

    @nolifewithoutrc10 No, use RC-specific CA's

  • @horizonhobby
    @horizonhobby  16 лет назад

    I do not recommend using kicker. Kicker can actually make the glue more brittle and lead to the tire not adhearing the the wheel properly.

  • @cam94z28
    @cam94z28 13 лет назад

    I guess I was understanding all these videos wrong. I tried to glue my holeshots to a set of associated dish wheels, and ended up with pretty badly wobbling tires. I guess the goal is to get the glue on the outside part of the bead, and not behind it? My wheels have a channel for the bead. I was trying to get the glue into that groove, rather than on the bead of the tire itself.

    do you have to use special glue? will super glue work?

    • @HiHi-fj2gf
      @HiHi-fj2gf 8 лет назад +1

      You should use CA Glue

    • @chadcoady9025
      @chadcoady9025 6 лет назад

      CA glue = Cyanoacrylate glue = Super Glue. All the same thing with different names.

      Yes, you glue the inside and outside beads.

  • @John-shreds

    tire glue is just superglue in a bigger bottle.

    • @travispratt6327
      @travispratt6327 6 лет назад +1

      John Traner Tire glue is better, they add rubber or something to it to make it elastic, regular superglue works but tends to crack and separate much easier in my experience. Shoe goo is also decent but hard to not be messy. You can tell a tire glue is different if it takes a long time to dry, I’m sure some just out straight CA in a bottle and sell it as tire glue though.

      You could also use a hair dryer and an old tooth brush. Heat it up and just scrub it off.

    What glue should I use on aluminum rims

    • @horizonhobby
      @horizonhobby  10 лет назад

      Good question as that’s something that I have never done at least in a situation where I wanted to use the assembly for any type of competition/speed.
      CA may work with a sanded/prepped rim. There are some rubberized CA’s out there too that offer more flexibility.
      Contact cement might be even better.

  • @horizonhobby

    @rockthecatbox21 Never use WD-40. That's a lubricant, not a cleaner. I also don't recommend soaps like Simple Green as they tend to leave a residue behind. There really aren't any household substitutes I'd recommend, sorry.

    Most cyanoacrylate super glues will work with proper preparation... RC-specific CA glues don't really have anything proprietary in the blends... it's mostly marketing. Usually only difference in RC glues are some kind of accelerators to increase or decrease dry times for work time, and some different catalysts for viscosity and pliability in final product.

    hi everyone!! a friend of mine that did this hobby for circa 7 years told me that you can also use ATTACK GLUE to glue tires. i'm starting to have lot of boubts about it. can you please conferm it???!!!!

    • @horizonhobby
      @horizonhobby  10 лет назад

      I would not recommend it, I would stick with dedicated RC Tire Glue personally.

    • @MrDavide1976
      @MrDavide1976 10 лет назад +1

      Horizon Hobby alright!! i think i'm not going to use SUPER ATTACK again!!
      but! it seems the problem with SUPER ATTACK is not absolute but it's more like a matter of caution!!! in fact you stated: " i would not recommend it", instead of "SUPER ATTACK is totally not a proper glue for tires"!!

  • @horizonhobby

    Can you use Alcohol instead of motor spray to clean the tire and wheel prior to gluing?

    • @horizonhobby
      @horizonhobby  10 лет назад +1

      Alcohol tends to dry out the rubber which is why we don't recommend it.
