Chris is a national treasure! Not only a great and accessible teacher of singing, but a lot of these lessons can be applied to general confidence in everyday life. Thanks for doing what you do!
As a singer in a 80s 90s metal cover band I can 100% back everything he is saying. I'm a barratone but can sing Sammy hagar axel Rose n many other vocal monsters. Get the foundations down. Love the journey. Even the speed bumps n pot holes
Ps find singers you like mimic. For me bonjovi and Steve Perry were frightening but with work ithrlped me with forming fonation. Also try singing steel heart. She's gone is a monster n after a year of failing I'm on a good day screaming out those LADYS. check it out it will make sence. Aim big. You just might hit it
@@aktv5507 You think by pushing myself towards the superdifficult stuff it'll help me in the long run? Cause if I can figure out the hard stuff it makes stuff beneath it easier. Im currently in a band and we do stuff like Dokken-Lightning Strikes Again, Loudness-Redlight Shooter and have wanted to do stuff like American Metalhead by Sebastian Bach or Queen of the Reich-Queensryche. I find it hard to keep the intensity up all the way through while keeping those notes in key . I like that hair metal stuff, The guy from Steelheart has an insanely high voice
@@wildside1951 the end of lightning strikes is a beast. 1st question do you have a daily warm up routine. Do you have a tutor or books on the specifics you are aiming at. I swear Chris is reading my mind sometimes. Haha I do this every early morning(to the dismay of those living with me). Stay healthy and cheers from the Philippines! 🙏⛑️🍻🇵🇭💜
Chris always comin’ with the absolutely super key tips. Whenever I struggle with voice, I’ve lost touch with that free, in out rhythmic breath. I start focusing too much on the throat and judging the sounds too much. When you play with that clipped, short, easy breathing and making noise rhythmically, you get forward placement, and things start to unlock and feel as free as it should. Too focused on sustained notes, start falling down into and getting trapped in my throat.
You have no idea how much you've helped people. My channel and my VOICE are doing so much better now that I'm more comfortable and don't hurt myself (as often).
You are a legend Chris, a mate sent me to your page and wow My vocals have changed so much just in a week. Thankyou for making all these videos man thankyou thankyou ❤✌🏻😁
thank you, once again. these points are a healing salve to my soul. I’m a striver. big time - everything’s life and death 😅 it’s interesting how the voice is such a good focal point, while at the same time the same principals and struggles happen life-wide. peace.
Once again, thank you for your awesome tips and tricks. This video made me think of what made Scott Weiland's approach. He was always doing some interesting movements and feeling the music while also making some very interesting sounds!
Another solid one, Chris. A D5 while just playing around, having fun. Pretty cool. And helpful. Thanks! How about more Dimash? You’re about the only vocal teacher out there that actually breaks down what he does. And the way you demonstrate how to approximate Dimash is impressive and instructive.
Hey Chris, I have a suggestion. It's been a long time since your last Jeff Buckley video, did you consider analyzing his Live at Sin-é? I think it's the perfect material, there's only vocals and clean guitar, and it has some truly outstanding vocal performances all over the place, especially on The Way Young Lovers Do. I think that one deserves all the coverage it can have. Gets me every time. Great tips, as always, thanks a lot.
Interesting. i was just doing this exercise fooling around with my voice all alone this afternoon. I was moving like pulling my shoulders back in rythm as I started a line to push it forward and I could hit tenor notes as a baritone (Soundgarden and Buckley songs) letting the air flow in mixed voice and falsetto without straining.
What about Rody Walker from Protest The Hero? Will you ever analyze his style in a video? He's got a really powerful voice and sings a lot of high notes (screams and growls apart) and would love a breakdown of his technique. I'm just learning how to stay soft on my voice and reach those high notes (as a baritone) and would love to see something about him. Keep up the good work tho, Chris! Your content is really precious people like me.
YAH. it helped. I sang it, easier for me. I just enjoyed the song, moved with it; and more importantly, not being so conscious of trying to reach the pitch. THANKS a lot.
Chris your advice is so useful one of the greatest teachers of all time there is one vocalist I can't crack I love him and thats Justin bonitz from tallah I don't know if you heard of him but his vocal range is insane and in songs like overconfidence he does this clean grit in a high range I just can't access at this time and was wondering if you could see if you could take a crack it. Much love and safe travels thanks for the greatest content on RUclips 👍😁😁
Hi Chris! I first started watching your channel after I watched your “How to Sing Like David Bowie” video! My singing has become more consistent and I’ve become more confident watching your channel! Thanks a ton! I wanted to request: can you please make a tutorial on how to sing/scream like Dennis Lyxzén of “Refused?”
Interesting thing is the better and more relaxed about singing live I get, the shorter my warm-up's are now becoming, to the point of virtually just a few tongue/lip trills and checking my soft pallette is raised. This can be actually done in less than a minute!
It's like flying a plane n just checking you turned all the switches before you take off. I check airflow with lip trills. Physical tension, I lift n drop my shoulders n jump up n down a few times then placement like you said soft pallet feringial, head and go go go. If I'm feeling shit I eill use a bottle and a straw to ease the chords in.
Chris, could you please do a video on Andrew Wells, singer of Eidola & member of Dance Gavin Dance? His vocals are absolutely insane (Songs like Mutual Fear, Caustic Prayer, Nothing Shameful, Evaporate, etc.)
thanks a lot, man Excelent videos Why is vocal the only "instrument" that you have to feel so silly doing exercises? lol I'm a very shy guy, and have some trouble learning to sing because i'm always thinking that my neighbours will think i'm crazy, even though i know that it doesnt matter... that's a sticking point for me
No, they are really different concepts... I talk about this much more in my group coaching program... helping you distinguish the difference in feel and approach!
Do you think I have hope on singing really high notes, I started smoking before my vocal chords even started to develop to what they are today and nowadays I struggle with really high notes. Im asking cause i want to make a cover on dream on by aerosmith but the highest parts are reeeaallly hard

Ya, that's interesting... Also by far the most vulnerable. The instrument is INSIDE you and you're exposing it every time you sing!
Let me try it....let me get into the groove and see if I can sing higher. Is throwing voice the same as forward placement?
