@@poppy_cant_draw one thing that I know is to not be afraid to sound weird or in other people’s minds, “wrong”. It’s a style that’s mainly based off emotions, your voice can sound light airy and sad or disgusted and full of hate. And when you’re doing the screams she does the on thing I know is that “ee” sounds are really hard to scream/growl with, and you want to keep the sound kind of to the front if that makes sense. Idk how else to describe it I’ve never taken vocal lessens and I’m also in middle school so I don’t know all the terms and stuff for things like this.
(Edit) Also for her kind of operatic head voice kind of sounds, (I don’t know how tf to say it😭) you want to lower your larynx(I think that’s how it’s spelled) as if you’re trying to make your voice lower then hit the note.

Love this comparison, and that you actually highlight it’s not that Ado is doing something better than Ariana, but that the production/mix is distorting our perception of it. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of trying to mimic something you hear in an album or live performance but if you can’t hear what is being done in terms of effects/compression/tuning etc then it can be so discouraging. That Ado performance though 🔥

Deciphering music production on studio vocals and the way it greatly affects the tone you hear is a really, REALLY good point that not enough people talk about. Maybe obvious to some.. but it took me years to realise that you often shouldn’t mirror what you hear from recorded tracks because what it sounds like isn’t what the singer is actually doing mechanically to produce the sound.

For me.. No singer is in the same level with ado yet.. Ado is another level that many singers abilities combined into one person.. Huhuhu
Edit : i read the replies of this comment, and so many people missunderstood about what i have said earlier.. People would compare ado with many of the great singer like DIMASH, Whitney Houston, Fredy Mercury, etc. Dont get me wronged, i respect them, But this is exactly the reason why they missunderstand.
What i meant with the phrase "ado is on another level" Is not how nice the sound ado makes, or how high the note she reaches, or how strong the power she has. "But.." What i meant is in terms of The way she use her so many vocal techniques in just one song. The versatility, the contrast, the transition between soft and compression. The way she interprets the lyrics into the emotion she had shown, the expresive ways of showing the emotions like becoming 3-4 different singers only with her voices in one song.
Thats why i said it was like many singer abilities combined into one person. Not like how individual singer abilities being compared to each other. ado sing As if the song was sang by a group of singers, or many singers sing the song together, with so many techniques used in just one song and express it so clearly that whoever heard her will immediately knows what emotion of the Song is all about. That was my point when i said ado is on another level.
I am sorry about my bad english, not my first language, i just hope you understand what i am saying.
And lastly, its all my personal opinion, its okay if you not agree. No right or wrong here, its just a matter of taste.

@@1_exmachine137 well, duh, she's 21 and started singing when she was 15 if I remember correctly, also she hadn't a coach. To get in 6-7 years from someone who never held a mic to where she's now is something incredible. And she's constantly improving, for example if you look at her older songs she was quite struggling with softer vocals, but if you look at her more recent stuff like Dried Flowers cover, or for example Himawari she sounds great. The same goes for the things you could say she perfected, like for example her screaming thingy, in older concerts you could hear how much energy she was putting into them, but in her more recent concerts you can notice how easy she's able to access them without being so tense and still keep the same quality of them. If she won't stop growing she could easily became one of the best female singers of all time, but even now I'd say she's one of the best of today.

What you are talking about applies to musicians playing instruments too that often gets lost even though it should easily be a part of everyone’s practice and approach to their instruments, voice included. “Phrasing” as it were is soo important and that includes dynamics in that too. It’s how a performance can sound robotic and monotonous rather than human and with emotional depth.

any singer who wants to learn how to use their breath to control dynamics needs to listen to mariah carey. mariah has medical issues that has damaged her voice that she’s been dealing with since the start of her career but her music is some of the most vocally intricate pieces of art any singer could listen to. and i’m not even talking about whistles! she’s the songbird supreme for a reason

I saw Ado on the thumbnail and was immediately drawn to the video. Ado is such an amazing singer and I’m so happy to see her incredible talent being recognized! I’m not at all upset that I clicked on this video, it was likely the best choice I made today, as you have explained this concept in a way I understand!

Hey, it would be so cool to hear your voice do a cover of "Ben"! I LOVE your aggressive singing style, but it would be really interesting to hear you sing an entire song WITHOUT going into crazy grit, screams or distortion, but still dynamic & emotional! What dose the innocent Chris sound like???

I'm watching this video not because I want to become a better singer, but I found that extremely useful when communicating with others. Speaking fuller definitely sounds like you have more authority in a situation, while speaking flatly doesn't. Anyways, interesting video, keep it up bro!

    • @KalafinaBTS
      @KalafinaBTS 15 дней назад

It absolutely does. Not only does it improve your voice (I've noticed, singing makes you sound cleaner even when speaking), but quite a bit of singing skills transfer to speaking like voice modulation, etc.
I remember back when I was socially awkward and anxious (still am, but now to a lesser degree), I would think several times on what I'm gonna say to a person, like say I wanna purchase rice, and while planning that I would pay special attention to which words I'd emphasize and which words I'd speak at higher pitch, which ones lower, etc. That made me realise how much singing translates to speaking haha

I think that led to my question of how loud you’re “supposed” to sing. It doesn’t get discussed and can’t easily be expressed through a proxy like a video and is equally not easily distinguishable in sample songs (which are bad examples in a lot of cases anyway) because of the skew from the “beautification” through artistic mixing.

Chriss.. Talking about vocal dynamics, you might wanted to check
Mika nakashima, she is one of a senior singer in japan. And she did the first take version on one of her song.
    Please make a review for
Mika nakashima - yuki no hana ( the first take version) and you will see a clear example of simple vocal dynamics, yet so beautiful, because she put not only a breath technique, but also her emotion when singing.

The way you explain things and support them with examples is like placing signposts on our learning path directing us other step forward. Thanks Chris 🙏🥰

Just came here on a recc super interesting!
I think with the explanation and demonstration it makes sense why the japanese produce/have so many great singers and voice actors, both even now a days.
Looking into it a bit more about speech breathing pattern it takes more breath to read a passage in japanese and then with english taking the least amount of breath to read a passage.
